• :focus in IE not working

  Hey, I've created a site with CSS that requires the :focus pseudo class. I change the 'filter' and 'background-image' effects when a textbox is selected (i.e. has focus). This works in Chrome/FF, but doesn't seem to work in IE8 (and, presumable, previous versions if IE). I tried to look for answers, and have tried to use :active - but that doesn't work. Is there a way of changing attributes such as 'filter' using psuedo-classes? Failing that, can I do it in JS with the OnClick event? Thanks

• ASP.net displaying data from SQL data source

  hey all, im using linq2SQL to grab information from my SQL database, i have a gridview which shows all the top level information, in this case a list of groups (i.e admin, users and so on) when a user clicks say the admin group, i want to be able to show each member in that group, i have the following code which grabs the information from the database, DataClassesDataContext dc = new DataClassesDataContext(); GridViewRow row = GridView1.SelectedRow; var query1 = from p in dc.Users where p.groups.GroupID == Int32.Parse(row.Cells[1].Text) select new { p.Name, p.Address, p.Contact Number, p.Bio, }; i no i can use gridview again to display the results of the query, but this doesnt really look nice as it shows too much information at one, how would i go about having some sort of display which will show just one user at a time giving me the chance to click next and back ? thanks

• ASP.NET Gridview Checkbox value to DataTable

  Hey all, First off, im using a checkbox to highlight a true or false value from a dataset which I want to be able to change it. Unfortunately databinding the DataTable to the GridView checkboxes doesnt work (as you probably know) as it requires it to be in "edit" mode. The way I've gotten round this is having the checkbox reading the data table value seperately rather than being databound and locked: Checked='<%# Convert.ToBoolean(Eval("myValue")) %>' So that solves checkbox values from DataTable - GridView, now I need to do the opposite having the changed checkbox values go from GridView - DataTable as it is not ready to submit it to my data source (SQL) just yet. I figure I need to run a loop through the GridView rows, thats a give'un, what I can't figure out is how to replace/update just a single value in a row of a DataTable , only the ability to add or remove an entire row by the looks of things (something I don't want to do). So can anyone offer a workaround? Or is there a way to have a databound but always editable checkbox in a gridview?

  Hey guys, Iv'e just started a new Wordpress blog and i have started to build the JavaScript base! the issue im having is funnction a fucntion that loops several variables and includes the required JS libraries, what i need to do is execute the callback when the loop is finished! • Ways to save enums in database

  Hey guys. I am wondering what the best ways to save enums into a database is. I know there are name() and valueOf() methods to make it into a String back. But are there any other (flexible) options to store these values? Is there a smart way to make them into unique numbers (ordinal() is not safe to use)? Any comments and suggestions would be helpful :) Update: Thanks for all awesome and fast answers! It was as I suspected. However a note to 'toolkit'; That is one way. The problem is that I would have to add the same methods with each enum type i create. Thats a lot of duplicated code and, at the moment, Java does not support any solutions to this (You cannot let enum extend other classes). However, thanks for all answers!

Identify and use a difference highlighting tool that meets the following criteria: • can highlight areas that need to be reviewed • there is a place to enter comments • retains line numbering from code • preference for doing within IDE Issue addressed: Hard to see what was changed in code - changes not identified. Coders do not provide administrators diffs. No tool that does a nice job to identify differences. Daunting/time consuming to provide a good diff. When highlighting differences was provided, loss of line numbers was a substantial issue (was worse).

• Tools to backup an external hard disk

  Hey people, What's the best method to take an exact copy of my external hard disk? A guru suggested rsync, but I was wondering if there's an easier alternative. I do remember reading somewhere that Acronis also does this. Was looking for your advice on the best option. I'm running Windows. Essentially i have an external HDD which has a lot of stuff synchronized across various pcs. I wish to take a backup of this external Hard disk (ext.HDDs aren't entirely reliable so want to keep a backup of my ext.HDD). Cheers. K

• Ruby Error: "No such file or directory -- script/generate (LoadError)"

  Hey all, I know that this error has been discussed elsewhere on the web, and this may seem like a stupid question, but I've got a very strange situation on my hands here. I'm running on Snow Leopard, with fully updated ruby and rails gems. I created a new rails project (ruby new testing), then navigated into that folder (cd ~/testing), and tried to create a basic scaffolding (ruby script/generate scaffold newtest name:string), and I got this error back: "ruby: No such file or directory -- script/generate (LoadError)" I have searched google thoroughly and tried to implement every solution that I could, but nothing has been working. I don't understand why I have this error or how to fix it. Can anyone help me, please?

  Hey, I'm trying to split my rails project in a front-end for regular users and a back-end for admins. Therefore i have created a namespace 'admin' so that i can easily control admin specific controller methods/layouts/authentication in the map admin. I'm using Devise to register/authenticate my admins only. Because it is only used for admins only i'm trying to move Devise to the admin namespace. I could not find exactly what i was looking for in the documentation of Devise but i tried something like this in routes.rb: namespace 'admin'do devise_for :admins end I also tried to make a custom Devise::Sessions controller but that too didn't seem to work out. Does anyone know how to do this? Should i just use the regular routes for devise with a custom(admin) layout?

• NHybernate, the Parallel Framework, and SQL Server

  hey guys, we have a loop that: 1.Loops over several thousand xml files. Altogether we're parsing millions of "user" nodes. 2.In each iteration we parse a "user" xml, do custom deserialization 3.finally, in each iteration, we send our object to nhibernate for saving. We use: .SaveOrUpdateAndFlush(user); This is a lengthy process, and we thought it would be a perfect candidate for testing out the .NET 4.0 Parallel libraries. So we wrapped the loop in a: Parallel.ForEach(); After doing this, we start getting "random" Timeout Exceptions from SQL Server, and finally, after leaving it running all night, OutOfMemory unhandled exceptions. I haven't done deep debugging on this yet, but what do you guys think. Is this simply a limitation of SQL Server, or could it be our NHibernate setup, or what? cheers andy

  Hey everybody, I've been seriously preparing to take the entrepreneurship leap. I've got a great partner, and we're going to take on some minor funding, and do the thing. Our product is web-based- I'll deem it YAWA (Yet Another Web Application). Both my partner and I have database and web development experience, and I've had a front-end developer in mind for a while. Except, well- he just bowed out. I know a fair amount about the associated technologies (XHTML, CSS, Javascript and some JQuery) interface-side, but I've never had to deal with real-world scenarios, eg cross-browser design. Am I going to be able to survive without this guy? Is it realistic to believe that I can learn the details as I go?

• @font-face Not Working on Other Computers

  Hey Guys, I've been working on my first HTML5/CSS3 site, and it's been going well for the most part. Totally loving the new @font-face property, and it works perfectly on my machine. The problem I'm having is when previewed on another device (computer, ipad, iphone), it doesn't seem to be recognising the @font-face property and uses the fallback font instead. • Load client-side accordion with pane open

  hey , I'm trying to change an AJAX accordion layout on the client-side. How can I make it so that when the page loads, the selected pane is opened? At the moment, I have this: Sys.require(Sys.components.accordion, function() { $("#accordion").accordion({ HeaderCssClass: "acc_header", HeaderSelectedCssClass: "acc_selectedheader", FadeTransitions: true, requireOpenedPane: false }); }); This works. However, if I add SelectedIndex = 1, it still starts off with the top pane opened and everything else closed. I tried change the 1 to other numbers (including -1), but it doesn't make a difference. Have I missed something here? (It's placed in an updatepanel, if that makes a difference) Thanks

  Hey all Basically I want to replicate the page changing effect found here, at http://timvandamme.com/ But instead of using #values I want to use PHP includes, mainly because I want the site to be as uber-seo-friendly as possible... but still have this nice effect. So is there a way of doing this? I have a main index file which includes other php files in the centre using the usual 'GET' method, so my pages look like: "index.php?page=about" In my jQuery code I want to have a declaration where if I click the navigation, the content scrolls up, then once the relevant PHP file has loaded, have the content scroll back down and show the new page content (whilst also of navigated to the new page in the address bar, so if the user clicks the back button in their browser, they return to the previous page). I know how to code the scrolling bits, it's just literally the ajax loading includes / page navigation parts I'm struggling to work out :\ Any help would be MUCH appreciated!!! Thanks in advance. • PHP script to replace cgi script

  Hey, I have a CGI script that uses an old database driver that is no longer supported. Instead of struggling with this old cgi script, I thought it would be easier to rewrite it in php. It works now as a php script, but I need it to be served from the same web address. When a user accesses http://somesite.com/myscript.cgi, I want it to run the php script. I tried just renaming the php script with .cgi, but that didn't work. This is on an Apache server hosted by Dreamhost. Any advice? Bridger Maxwell

  Hey guys, I am working on a game, and wanted to add a screen that would open when the user clicked on certain objects. The screen would be laid out to have an image on the left, a title on the top right, and text below the title. I have a few problems with this, 1) How would I create the popup box? (preferably with rounded edges) 2) How would I wrap the text (in front of the picture, but not outside the popup-box, I may even need vertical scroll bars) 3) How would I account for different screen resolutions (would they even make a difference?) • Unit Testing, IDataContext and Stored Procedures via Linq

  hey folks, I'm currently using Stephen Walther's approach to unit testing Linq to SQL and the datacontext (http://stephenwalther.com/blog/archive/2008/08/17/asp-net-mvc-tip-33-unit-test-linq-to-sql.aspx) which is working a treat for all things linq. My Dal layer takes in an IDataContext, I use DI (via Unity) to concrete that up as the correct DataContext object and all works well. But - we have a company policy here of writes going via Stored Procs. Has anyone come up with a solution for mocking/faking the data context and still allowing stored procs to effectively be unit tested? I've got no real experience of any of the mocking frameworks (Rhino etc.) so if these are the correct means of doing this, I'd love some pointers on guides for them. Many thanks, Terry

I don't want any cart functionality or other such features, I just want to display the products,their specifications and images etc. on the website and give my client an admin panel to manage products. Now I looked into various PHP shopping cart scripts but couldn't find a way to remove price info from the display. I am not experienced enough in web development to make a product catalogue from scratch so if you guys could point me out in right direction I would be very grateful. • DIV menu ontop of <li> on hover

  Hey guys, this is my first time actually posting at stackflow but i've used people's answers before. Really a great site. Anywho onto my problemo. I have some 'li' tags. When I hover the mouse over these 'li's, I need a DIV to appear over the 'li' with some buttons, etc. Basically it's kind of a menu. the 'li's are an unpredictable length, usually somewhere from 1 line to 5. A great example of what I'm trying to accomp is the dribbble.com homepage. Hover over an image (though I'm using 'li's) and a nifty lil info thing comes up. I have absolutely no experience with javascript or jqry, I'm just a PHP guy with some CSS. I do the back-end work. Anywho, can anyone show me how to do this and include a basic example please? Would really really appreciate it. Help?
