• Automatically Log off Google when logging in using Google OpenID?

  I use Google as my OpenID provider. Once you log into a website with Google's OpenID I am then logged into Google as well. I do not desire this. Can I somehow automatically log off my Google account, or prevent Google from logging in every time I use my Google OpenID? I prefer not to have my personal google account always logged in. It's not a big deal going to gmail and clicking log off, but if there is a simpler way that would be good. Note to admins: this is not just for stack overflow, please don't close the question.

• Be your own cloud [closed]

  I have reasonably many electronic gadgets that can go LAN or WI-FI. But how do you share and/or syncronize all your files among them? Well, between my laptops and my desktop I use Dropbox. A nice way to share files among computers. But what if your HDD on your laptop is not large enough to carry music, pictures and films. Normally you would buy an extern USB HDD and store them there, but then you cannot reach the files from other computers which are not connected to the USB device. Many would say I should use a solution like a cloud with a disc station or something like that. But my needs are follows: A mass storage which can be reached among devices (laptops, desktops, iPhone, Android phone, XBox or Playstation). Has low power requirements and is silent. Can be reached inside home and it would be nice if it could be reached outside home as well. Cheap I have looked around and I have found an wireless router which can share a USB device: D-Link Wireless N HD Media Router. I thought it would be an interesting solution for a simple local cloud solution. D-Link uses a little program called SharePort Plus which mount the USB device to your computer. Unfortunately is the transfer rate to the USB storage device rather disappointing. The transfer rate was 5.8 Mbps even though the distance between the laptop and the router was 2 meter. The same is happening when I use cable from the computer to the router. Another thing is that SharePort Plus only allows one computer be connected to the device at a time. The last thing was something I could live with. I have search on the Internet for other solutions and found this video from Synology. I'm not sure if their solution is the right one. I think a disc station connected to my home LAN could the right solution. What have you done in your home to store and share files among your computers and game consoles?

• Certain sites not working in Firefox, working in IE

  Totally weird thing happening on my PC after I came back from the Holiday shutdown. My homepage by default is google.com/ig but when it opens (in Firefox) the G-Mail panel does not display and eventually times out. I then try to navigate to https://www.gmail.com but that also times out. Thinking maybe work decided to drop the ban-hammer on g-mail I decided to try it in Internet Explorer. Oddly enough it works in IE Any idea on why it works fine in one browser but not the other?

• Connecting to my SMTP server

  I have a few questions, I just installed SMTP on my Ubuntu server, and I want to know how to connect to it from a different machine... I'm not really clear. I tried: telnet my.servers.ip.address 25 I think it's running on port 25, but I don't know where to find out, its not in the conf file anywhere. Additionally do I need it to be a FDQN? or can I just access my mail server via it's IP address? I know that the service works on the machine because I'm able to echo test | mail -s "test" [email protected] Any help debugging or understanding this would be helpful, thanks guys!

• New Windows 7 Install Crashing

  One big reboot crash and one smaller crash already, 15 minutes in. Did a basic install of Windows 7, installed Chrome and Firefox. I had just finished loading up my gmail account in Chrome/Firefox to show the speed difference and we'd thought it would be hilarious to see how slow IE8 was. :P Just about as IE8 was done opening, the computer's screen goes black. After a restart and a couple minutes, Explorer crashes as well. What is going on? This install is only 15-20 minutes old. :P

• Copy-paste stops working on Windows 7

  Copy-paste functionality stops working after about an hour after each reboot on a Windows 7 64-bit system. Running Google Chrome (with gmail and few other tabs open like Calendar, Reader), MS Outlook (which I don't think has anything to do with the problem — I saw it when outlook was off as well), iTunes (9.1.1.12 if it matters). Would appreciate hints where and what for to look in a registry, and ideas for possible fix. That is not an Internet Explorer problem (I don't even run it) — it happens in all applications. Neither Ctrl-C/Ctrl-V nor context menu right-click Copy-Paste (actually, nothing happens on Copy, so there is nothing in a clipboard to Paste) are working. Drag-and-Drop (where supported) continues working though.

• Is it possible to get a google voice number without already having a phone number?

  I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to post this, but I couldn't find a more suitable website in the stackexchange network. I currently have no phone number; I can make outgoing calls via the widget in gmail, but I cannot receive calls (as far as I know). I know that you can set up a google voice number to forward to google chat, and this is exactly what I want. The problem is, I can't get a google voice number in the first place, because it first requires that I have an existing phone number, even if I wouldn't use it. So, it is possible to skip providing an existing phone number, and just get a google voice number that forwards to google chat? Alternatively, is there any free phone service that can be used without a phone and lets you receive calls from any number? I realize I'm kind of asking for free candy, but, if it's out there, I'd be a fool

• Make Google Chrome "Application" Windows Use High-Quality Icons in Windows 7

  Whenever I use Google Chrome's "Create Application" shortcut (which I heavily use, and recommend), the icons shown on the Windows 7 taskbar are really blurry, probably the result of the 16x16 favicon being stretched out. I'd like to be able to replace these with another, high-quality icon, but even when I replace the cached file, it doesn't update for some reason. • How secure is using "Normal password" for SMTP with connection type = STARTTLS?

  I'm using an email client for the first time - for the most part I've always used gmail via the web interface. Now I'm setting up thunderbird to connect to an email server of my own (on my own server, own domain name, etc). The server machine (and the email server on it) was preconfigured for me. Now i figured out away by which I'm able to send and receive email, but I noticed that in the outgoing and incoming servers section, the connection type was STARTTLS (and not SSL/TLS), and the Authentication Type was "Normal Password". Does this mean that the password will be sent across in plain text? I'm very paranoid about security - its the only way that it works for me. Can someone please post links that explain how SMTP (my outbound server) and IMAP (my inbound server) servers work, and what connection type means what? Thanks! • sendmail: Transport endpoint is not connected

  A few days ago my mail server (fedora 10, running sendmail 8.14.3) started getting "Transport endpoint is not connected" messages in the log. It seems to be happening for bigger mail hosts (hotmail, gmail, aol, etc). The errors started happening about the same time I upgraded clamav ... so I just tried downgrading clamav to the previous version, but the error keeps happening. I was dubious anyways ... why a milter would effect sendmail's ability to connect with a remote server was beyond me. If I force the mail queue's to run, the messages are delivered normally. I had this happen once before ... and I thought it was related to a milter I had configured but wasn't using ... but that milter is not in use at all now. Any suggestions?

• Wireless slow, but very odd

  I have a HP Pavilion dv6 laptop, internet through the wireless timeouts. Even though it connects fine to the AP/router. The computer had a virus (searchnu?) and I backed up the usual and restored the laptop to factory image. Problem is after the restore the internet through the wireless the same still... and connected via wired and everything worked fine. I was able to update the whole system. Internet worked perfect, speed great. But the wireless still was pitiful. Ping tests with wireless are interesting: Google= 18ms Gmail= 18ms Yahoo= 1023ms 8.8.8.8=30ms Microsoft= Request Timed Out Bing= Request Timed Out msn= Request Timed Out even though I get 18ms with google, the pages take a long time to load. Is this a root kit? is it the wireless card in the laptop?

  I'm getting the following error when trying to connect to SMTP + SSL through PHP using nginx + PHP 5, Could not connect to smtp host 'ssl://smtp.gmail.com' (5) (Unable to find the socket transport "ssl" - did you forget to enable it when you configured PHP?) In phpinfo I see: OpenSSL support disabled (install ext/openssl) This leads me to believe I've installed OpenSSL incorrectly. I've read a bunch of places where I should uncomment the following line: extension = php_openssl.dll This line does not exist so I added it to the end of my php.ini to no avail. The php_openssl.dll file does not exist anywhere on my server.

• Is email forwarding to the sender's address usually blocked in Mail servers / MTA?

  I've noticed that email forwarding to an address seems not to work if I send an email from the address to which I am forwarding email. This happens for GMail and Fasthosts mail servers. e.g I send an email to [email protected] from [email protected] , [email protected] is set to forward to [email protected] and the email never arrives. I realise this seems logical but it is a potential cause of confusion when testing email functionality in a web application (for me, anyway ;-). I would just like to know if this is standard for all MTA software so I can avoid confusing myself.

• How can I migrate mails from Yahoo! Mail to Google Apps?

  We'd like to move from using Yahoo! Mail to our Google Apps account. It'd be great to be able to migrate all the mails across from the old accounts to the new. If we were using Gmail accounts this would be easy as the migration is offered by Google, for some reason they don't offer this to those using custom domains. As far as I know Yahoo! don't offer POP or IMAP access to non-paying customers and I'd rather not pay $20 per account that I want to migrate. Anyone know of any easy and cheap solutions?

  Hi Is there any (ideally open source) software for Windows that can be used on a PC, to monitor the usage of internet from that PC? It would need to include both browser and non-browser sources (e.g. a service that sync's calendar to gmail). So any software on your PC that uses would need to be configured to point to this local internet monitoring software/proxy. The monitoring software/proxy then would be configured to point to the company proxy server (address, port & credentials). Things that come to mind that might be close but not really focused on solving this might be perhaps: Charles Proxy, Fiddler 2, SQUID? The idea would be it could give you a daily/weekly/monthly report of internet upload/download usage on a per program/process/service basis for the PC it is being run on. thanks

• Thunderbird 3 not displaying email in local folder

  I installed TB3 on a new computer set up to use imap to get my gmail -- works fine I copied all of my existing emails from old computer into the appdata directiry fir thunderbird local folders. All files are of the right size that I know the data is present When I run tb on the new computer all of the FOLDERS show up under LocalFolders. 5, BUT BUT BUT, when I click on any folder, all I get is a blank -- no emails are shown. additional info: Bitdefender DOES see the missing emails because one or two are tagged as suspicious But Windows 7 search is NOT seeing the missing emails.   Possible Duplicate: Multiple delete in Microsoft Outlook Web Access How do you delete all messages in a folder in Outlook, preferrably through Web Access? I left my Outlook account unattended for several days (on vacation) and when I got back I found several folders with over 5k emails, mostly error logging or spam. When I try to open the Outlook client, it just locks up, presumably unable to download that many emails. I can view at most 100 emails at a time, but I can't select all emails to delete or permanently delete them immediately, so manually deleting this many emails is going to take a while. Gmail has a similar feature to select and delete all emails in a folder, and that's free so I figure being a quality non-free product from Microsoft, Outlook should have a similar feature (yes that's sarcasm). I've Googled, but I'm not finding anything. Is this possible?

• Allowing Skype through Squid proxy

  I have a squid proxy running on 192.168.1.2 on port 3000. with Squid i am able to connect to internet and browse websites but skype is not connecting even after i specified proxy server in it.
