• 2D colliding n-body simulation (fast Collision Detection for large number of balls)

  Hello I want to write a program for simulating a motion of high number (N = 1000 - 10^5 and more) of bodies (circles) on 2D plane. All bodies have equal size and the only force between them is elastic collision. I want to get something like but in larger scale, with more balls and more dense filling of the plane (not a gas model as here, but smth like boiling water model). So I want a fast method of detection that ball number i does have any other ball on its path within 2*radius+V*delta_t distance. I don't want to do a full search of collision with N balls for each of i ball. (This search will be N^2.) PS Sorry for loop-animated GIF. Just press Esc to stop it. (Will not work in Chrome).

  I have 4 directories with images for an animation. I would like to take the set of images and generate a single image with the 4 images arranged into a 2x2 grid for each frame of the animation. I tried to over-ride the BaseInlineFormset class with a new queryset, but couldnt figure out how to correctly pass the experiment parameter.

• Acordex Image viewer throws out of memory exception in CITRIX environment

  We have a .net 2.0 application. In the .aspx page we are calling the java applet using . This applet is calling the Acordex Image viewer. In the production environment users are facing "out of memory" or "insufficient memory" issues when users try to open the image or magnify an image in Acordex viewer. Strangely when the users logout and login again they are able to see the same image without any errors. The website is hosted in a CITRIX environment. We have access to this environment but we are not able to reproduce this issue on the test servers or the local machines. We dont know what is causing this issue. What should we do to troubleshoot the issue? Do we have to increase the memory allotted to the users in CITRIX? The RAM is around 4 gb. Line 10 is the one I have questions about.   Hello, ist there a way to get a change notification if an attached property changed? A simple example is a Canvas with a Rectangle in it. The position of the Rectange is set by using the DepenendyProperties Canvas.Top and Canvas.Left. I'm using an Adorner to move the Rectangle around by changing the Canvas.Top and Canvas.Left. <Canvas Width="500" Height="500" > <Rectangle Width="40" Height="40" Canvas.Left="10" Canvas.Top="20" /> </Canvas> The next step is to create an Arrow between two Rectangles. In order to keep track of the moving Rectangles the Arrow must get a change notification whenever the position of a Rectanglechanges.   I am on MAC OS X 10.5.5. I installed Calibre, a tool for converting e-book files from one format to another. It has a GUI as well as command line tools. I am trying to run the command line tool "any2mobi" to convert HTML files to MOBI pocket format or Kindle AZW format, with a TOC. I get the error "-bash: any2mobi: command not found". Clearly, any2mobi is not in my path. Where is it? I tried searching but came up empty. I installed version 0.6.0b6 of Calibre.

• How to represent "options" for my plugin architecture (C# .NET WinForms)

  Okay basically here's where I'm at. I have a list of PropertyDescriptor objects. These describe the custom "Options" fields on my Plugins, aka: public class MyPlugin : PluginAbstract, IPlugin { [PluginOption("This controls the color of blah blah blah")] [DefaultValue(Color.Red)] public Color TheColor { get; set; } [PluginOption("The number of blah blah blahs")] [DefaultValue(10)] public int BlahBlahBlahs { get; set; } } So I did all the hard parts: I have all the descriptions, default values, names and types of these custom "plugin options". MY QUESTION IS: When a user loads a plugin, how should I represent these options for them to config? On the back end I'll be using XML for the config, so that's not what I'm asking. I'm asking on the front end: What kind of WinForms control should I use to let users configure the options of a plugin, when there will be an unknown amount of options and different types used etc.?

• Java Media Framework always generating multicast packets with TTL=1

  I need to generate a G711 multicast audio stream, and came across the AVTransmit2 sample as part of the Java Media Framework. Fundementally this works, however the multicast packets all have TTL set to 1. I found some documentation that suggested the SessionAddress could specify a TTL value, so I've tried changing that i.e. destAddr = new SessionAddress( ipAddr, port, 255); I also found some comments that the problems might be due to java defaulting to IPv6, so I've tried to force it to ipv4 by starting it like this: java -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true -classpath "." AVTransmit2 javasound://8000 239.1.10.65 20480 However looking in wireshark, the packets still have TTL=1 I'm using JMF2.1.1e Any suggestions how to resolve this?

• How to manage memory using classes in Objective-C?

  This is my first time creating an iPhone App and I am having difficulty with the memory management because I have never had to deal with it before. I have a UITableViewController and it all works fine until I try to scroll down in the simulator. It crashes saying that it cannot allocate that much memory. Term has a method getName that returns a NSString*. The problem seems to be the part of where crayon is being set and getName is being called. I have tried adding autorelease, release, and other stuff like that but that just causes the entire app to crash before even launching. • UIWebView NSURLRequestReloadIgnoringLocalCacheData doesn't actually ignore the cache

  I have a UIWebView object, with the caching-policy specified as: NSURLRequestReloadIgnoringLocalCacheData This should ignore whatever objects are in the local cache and retrieve the latest version of a site from the web. However, after the first load of the site (10 resources in trace, HTTP GET), all subsequent loads of the site only retrieve a small subset of resources (3 resources in trace, HTTP GET). The images all appear to be loaded from some local source. I have confirmed that my sharedURLCache has a memory usage of 0 bytes, and a disk usage of 0 bytes. Whenever the process starts fresh, the full version of the site is retrieved again. This leads me to believe that these resources are being stored in an in-memory cache, but as I noted before, [[NSURLCache sharedURLCache] currentMemoryUsage] returns 0. I have also tried explicitly removing the cached response for my request, but this seems to have no effect. What gives?

• SQL Server 08 Express error when connecting to localhost - "Timeout expired". Works with ::1 or 127.0.0.1

  EDIT New info: Navigating to localhost:1434 in Chrome gives me an "ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE", while other ports give me an "Oops! This link appears to be broken". So it seems to binding ok there? So here's my setup so far: I've configured Windows Firewall to allow TCP on 1433 and UDP on 1434. I've set up SQL Server to use any IP on Port 1433 (using the SQL Server Configuration Manager). My hosts file contains the default entries ("127.0.0.1 localhost" and "::1 localhost"). I sometimes have a debug session of Visual Web Developer running a webserver, but it's on a specific port (localhost:5XXXX). What I've tried: I CAN ping localhost in a cmd prompt. I CAN connect to the database through SSMS if I specify 127.0.0.1 or ::1 as the server name. I CAN'T connect to the database through SSMS (or ADO.NET) if I specify localhost as the server name. I've tried both Windows and SQL Authentication The error I get is the standard Can't connect to localhost. Additional Information -- Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding. (Microsoft Sql Server) Other considerations: Stopping the Visual Web Developer web server from the taskbar doesn't affect the sql problem. The SQL error log says that it's listening on some piped name url at start up (I don't see how this would affect localhost but not 127.0.0.1 though). I could probably just use 127.0.0.1 everywhere, but it scares me that localhost isn't working and I'd like to figure out why. I'm not much of a networking or sql server guy so I'm stuck. If you want me to try anything to help diagnose just put it in a comment and I'll give it a go.   I'm working under Mac OS X 10.6.5 autoconf version 2.68 automake version 1.11.1 In a large project that is built using autoconf, automake, I need to add .mm files to the library sources. When I add them to the library_SOURCES variable they won't compile even after I use AS_IF([test "$with_target" = "quartz"], [AC_PROG_OBJCXX]) in my configure.ac. The test is passed successfully and it event outputs checking whether we are using the GNU Objective C++ compiler... yes and .mm files don't compile. Where can I look to solve this problem?

So I need to know the bounding box that each character had when being drawn. For example, for painter.drawText(QRect(100, 100, 200, 200), Qt::TextWordWrap, "line\nline2", &r); I would need to get 10 rectangles, taking into account newlines, word-wrap, tabs, etc. For example, the rectangle of the second 'l' would be below the rectangle of the first 'l', instead of being to the right of 'e', because of the newline.

  Hi all~. I made a multi files downloader. I implemented NSURLConnection using NSOperationQueue. NSOpetationQueue has many NSURLConnection operations. and, set MaxConcurrentOperationCount to 10. I thought my code is right, But after run the project, it was wrong. there are some connection error has occured. files url were right. and file download was completed. but downloading files, occur "timed out" error. It is so serious. I tested it with 8 files, and those total size is only 3M. But total download time is 2minutes ~!!! one file download spends only a few second. (2~3 s) but multi files download occur many overburden!! (2 minutes) I don't know why it is... Do Anyone know what reason is?

  I have a multiple language website, that uses subdirectories from the root ('/en' for english and '/es' for spanish) for each specific language. Each redirect appends a get variable to the URL, and hides it using a 'P' flag for proxy. My current htaccess file for the spanish subfolder is: Options +FollowSymlinks RewriteEngine on RewriteOptions MaxRedirects=10 RewriteBase / RewriteRule ^(.*)\.html$ $1.php RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.domain.com/$1?l=es [P,R=301,L] The problem is that I also want to append the 'www' to the domain if it was left off. The proxy redirect does not show the 'www.' Is it possible to place a rewriterule before that final one that will append the www, and then still process the final one?

We have multiple configuration files (INI and XML), registry keys, database migration scripts, etc. The application is in the progress of being migrated from VB6 to .NET . The old installer was build with Installshield. The feedback to Installshield is: Bad adaptability, bad reuse - thats way we are evaluating "Visual Studio Setup" as an alternative. Other products we consider: Free Solutions WiX NSIS Commercial Solutions Installshield (again..) Wise Advanced Installer sth. missing? Solutions we don't like to consider: Inno Setup (It just doesn't feel right)
