  • Forward mDns from one subnet to another?

    - by user37278
Is there an ipfw rule that can easily forward mDns packets from one subnet to another? I have a Snow Leopard Server machine serving as the gateway between the two subnets and would like for machines in each subnet to see the services available in the other subnet. The gateway machine is already confirmed as configured correctly such that packets route correctly between the two subnets (ping works, traceroute shows the subnet hop, etc). My problem in designing a ipfw rule is that I don't know how to instruct that I would like multicast packets addressed to 224.0.0.251:5353 on en0 to be addressed to the same ip/port but on fw0 (the other interface). I attempted a rule such as fwd 192.168.10.1 log udp from 192.168.1.0/24 to 224.0.0.251 recv en1 to force the packet to hop over to the other interface (from en1 to fw0), but no dice. The ipfw log shows that the rule is being triggered by packets, but tcpdump isn't showing any packets on the other interface. Also, the only other firewall rules in place are the divert port 8668 and rule #65535 "allow any to any". Any suggestions? Thanks.

  • How can I configure multiple default gateways on a CISCO Router?

    - by Spirit
Does any one knows a way to configure a cisco router with multiple gateways - multiple gateways of last resort? I've tried adding a gateway of last resort twice (with different metric) but only one is shown: Router(config)# ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 2.2.2.2 10 Router(config)# ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 3.3.3.3 100 And the show ip route output was: Router# show ip route Gateway of last resort is 2.2.2.2 to network 0.0.0.0 2.0.0.0/24 is subnetted, 1 subnets C 2.2.2.0 is directly connected, FastEthernet0/0 3.0.0.0/24 is subnetted, 1 subnets C 3.3.3.0 is directly connected, FastEthernet0/1 32.0.0.0/30 is subnetted, 1 subnets C 32.2.2.0 is directly connected, Serial0/2/0 S* 0.0.0.0/0 [10/0] via 2.2.2.2 The point is that i cannot see the other route with higher distance metric? Anyone has a sugestion? I mean will this config work if the link on 2.2.2.2 fails? Will the router choose the other network 3.3.3.3, if the link 2.2.2.2 fails?

  • Failure to obtain IP with ARP over Wi-Fi with personal Wi-Fi router in client mode

    - by axk
I'm trying to connect a Samsung TV to the Internet using a TL-MR3020 personal wireless router in client mode. The TV fails to connect to the network. It sees the ethernet cable connected though. Here's my network topology: Here's what I've captured with Wireshark filtering for ARP (eth.type == 0x0806): It appears the TV fails to get the IP of the gateway (DSL modem/router) for some reason. One thing I've noticed is that the source MAC for the ARP requests coming from the TV is the MAC of the Portable wireless router (that is cd:89:00), not the TV itself and the modem sends the responses to that MAC (I'm not an expert and don't know if its okay or it may make the TV fail to get the requested IP). Also I'm able to ping the TV from the DSL router (through the telnet interface) and the router has an entry in its MAC table for the TV's IP with the Portable wireless router's MAC (that is cd:89:00). If I'm able to ping the TV I suppose it should know the router's MAC to respond to the ping, but then why these continuous ARP requests... I've also tried to connect my desktop trough this Portable wireless router the same way I'm trying to connect the TV and it works fine, I can set the DSL Modem's IP as the default gateway on the desktop's NIC and connect to the Internet. The TV can connect to the Internet when connected to the DSL Router with a wired connection. Any suggestions on what may be the cause of the problem / how to further debug it are welcome. Thanks!

  • Debian can't connect to internet using LAN

    - by tampe125
I have a headless Raspberry Pi using Debian Wheezy. I have a wifi dongle and if I connect my Raspberry using it, everything works fine: I can connect to the Internet, I can ping, I can update. However, if I get down my wifi and set up the lan interface, I lost my internet connection. I still can connect locally, using my laptop, but the connection doesn't exit (ie ping is not working). • VPN messes up DNS resolution

    - by user124114
After connecting with the Kerio VPN client (OS X Leopard) to a server, the internet (~web browsing) stopped working for the client. After poking around, the issue seems to be bad DNS server (i.e., entering IPs directly works). After disconnecting from the VPN, the invalid DNS server disappears from scutil --dns and all's well again. Now, I don't understand why OS X on the client even changes the DNS settings -- internet should be routed through a different interface, through the default gateway, not through the VPN. Questions: By what mechanism does connecting the VPN client change the "default" DNS server? How can I stop the VPN client from changing routing/DNS rules? Where is this stuff stored/modified? Before VPN: $ scutil --dns DNS configuration resolver #1 nameserver[0] : 10.66.77.1 # <---- default gateway = home router; all good order : 200000 resolver #2 domain : local options : mdns timeout : 2 order : 300000 ... VPN connected: $ scutil --dns DNS configuration resolver #1 nameserver[0] : 192.168.1.1 # <--- rubbish nameserver[1] : 192.168.2.1 order : 200000 resolver #2 domain : local options : mdns timeout : 2 order : 300000 ... The VPN doesn't appear among $ networksetup -listallnetworkservices.

  • Single m0n0wall - Two LAN Subnets - How To Setup

    - by SnAzBaZ
I have two LAN subnets that I need to link together they are 192.168.4.0/24 and 192.168.5.0/24 There is a m0n0wall running on 192.168.4.1. It's LAN connection goes out to our network switch, and it's WAN port goes out to our ADSL modem. WAN is connected via PPPoE. The 192.168.4.0 subnet contains all of our office workstations. The 192.168.5.0 subnet contains development servers and test machines that need to obtain internet access and be "managed" by computers on the 192.168.4.0 subnet, but need to be on their own subnet as well. I have a Draytek 2820N configured on 192.168.5.1 with it's WAN2 port configured as 192.168.4.25 and a default gateway of 192.168.4.1. Machines on the 5.0 subnet can connect to the internet via the m0n0wall just fine. I configured a static route on the m0n0wall LAN interface, Network 192.168.5.0/24 and Gateway 192.168.4.25. Machines on the 5.0 subnet can ping machines on the 4.0 network but the reverse does not work. I configured a new firewall rule on the m0n0wall that allows any traffic on the LAN interface with a source IP of 192.168.4.25 to be allowed. The DrayTek firewall is currently configured to pass all traffic regardless. When I try to ping a machine in the 5.0 subnet from 4.0 I see this in my m0n0wall log: BLOCK 14:45:27.888157 LAN 192.168.4.25 192.168.4.37, type echoreply/0 ICMP So the reply is being sent from the 5.0 subnet but is not being allowed to reach my workstation because the firewall is blocking it. Why is the firewall blocking it ? I hope the explanation of my network is clear, please ask if you require further clarification. Thank you.

  • OpenVZ with bridged interfaces and VLAN

    - by Deimosfr
    Hi, I've got a problem with OpenVZ with bridged VLAN. Here is my configuration: +------+ +-------+ +-----------+ +---------+ br0 |VE101 | | | | OpenBSD |----->| Debian |------->| | | WAN |--->| Router | | OpenVZ | +------+ | | | Firewall |----->| br0 br1 | br1 +------+ +-------+ +-----------+ +---------+------->|VE102 | |br0 | | |VLAN br0.110 +------+ v +---------+ |VE103.110| +---------+ I can't make VLAN work on br0 (br0.110) and I would like to understand why. I don't have any switch so no problem with unmanageable switch. I've configured a VLAN interface on OpenBSD in /etc/hostname.vlan110: inet 192.168.110.254 255.255.255.0 NONE vlan 110 vlandev sis1 And it seems to be working fine. I've also adapted my PF configuration to work with VLAN but I don't see any incoming traffic. On my Debian Lenny, here is my interfaces configuration : # The loopback network interface auto lo iface lo inet loopback # br0 auto br0 iface br0 inet static address 192.168.100.1 netmask 255.255.255.0 gateway 192.168.100.254 network 192.168.100.0 broadcast 192.168.100.255 bridge_ports eth0 bridge_fd 9 bridge_hello 2 bridge_maxage 12 bridge_stp off # VLAN 110 auto br0.110 iface br0.110 inet static address 192.168.110.1 netmask 255.255.255.0 network 192.168.110.0 gateway 192.168.110.254 broadcast 192.168.110.255 pre-up vconfig add br0 110 post-down vconfig rem br0.110 It looks OK, but when I start my VE, here is the message: ... Configure veth devices: veth103.0 Adding interface veth103.0 to bridge br0.110 on CT0 for VE103 can't add veth103.0 to bridge br0.110: Operation not supported VE start in progress... So I've got one error here. I've followed this documentation http://wiki.openvz.org/VLAN but it doesn't work. I've certainly missed something but I don't know why. Someone could help me please? Thanks

When I try setting the mac using macaddr it does nothing. It works perfectly fine when I turn the authentication off. I've also discovered that when wpa2 is switched on I don't receive a association reply from ap. thats my hostapd.conf interface=eth1 driver=broadcom bridge=br-lan ssid=O2BB3 wpa=2 wpa_passphrase=prettywoman wpa_key_mgmt=WPA-PSK rsn_pairwise=CCMP Btw that password is only temporary while am testing.

  • Windows 7 hangs after going into sleep a second time

    - by Brian Stephenson
I've searched everywhere around Google and can't figure out why this is happening so I decide to ask here to see if anyone has a problem like this. Like it says in the title, whenever I sleep ONCE I'm able to wake the system, but going back to sleep again AFTER waking up for the first time results in it hanging on no input and no output, with the fan spinning as fast as possible and alot of heat being spewed out by the fan as well. I've tried various things like setting all USB Hub Root's to not get switched off for power saving, disabling USB selective suspend, disabling PCI-e link state power management, and even unplugging ALL USB devices and it wont wake up after the second attempt. And I've even waited up to a full hour of the CPU fan spinning loudly and it's still stuck trying to wake up. The only USB devices I use are a Microsoft USB Comfort Curve Keyboard 2000 (IntelliType Pro) and a generic HID compliant mouse from Creative model number OMC90S "CREATIVE MOUSE OPTICAL LITE". My other devices like external drives and controllers are unplugged when I'm not using them as having too many USB devices plugged in at a time causes a deadlock on almost all of the ports I have. Here's my system specifications (Most of these are from CPU-Z): Brand: Gateway DX4300-19 Mainboard: Gateway RS780 Chipset: AMD 780G Rev 00 Southbridge: AMD SB700 Rev 00 LPCIO: ITE IT8718 BIOS: American Megatrends Inc. ver P01-A4 09/15/2009 CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 810 at 2.60 GHz RAM: 8.0 GB DDR2 Dual Channel Ganged Mode at 400 MHz GPU: ATI Radeon HD3200 Graphics Intergrated - RS780 OS: Windows 7 Home Premium x64 OEM (Acer Group) HDD: WDC WD10EADS-22M2B0 1.0 TB (Western Digital Green Caviar) My BIOS has absolutely no control over how I setup the sleep mode to be either S1 or S3. So I can't check these settings or even change them. Hybrid sleep is also disabled, I can successfully go into hibernation and wake from hibernation but this is painfully slow due to a harddrive problem I'm having with this "Green Drive". (Hibernation takes over ~3 minutes to complete) Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

  • Route all wlan0 traffic over tun0

    - by Tuinslak
I'm looking for a way to route all wlan0 traffic (tcp and udp) over tun0 (openvpn). However, all other traffic originating from the device itself should not be routed through tun0. I'm guessing this could be realized using iptables or route, but none of my options seem to work. # route add -net 0.0.0.0 gw 172.27.0.1 dev wlan0 SIOCADDRT: No such process Info: This is because the VPN server is not redundant, and wlan users are not really important. However, all services running on the device are fairly important and having a VPN virtual machine with no SLA on it is just a bad idea. Trying to minimize the odds of something going wrong. So setting the VPN server as default gateway is not really an option. I also want all wlan0 user to use the VPN server's IP address as external IP. • 802.11g -> wired ethernet bridging not working

    - by Malachi
Usually people want to go the other direction, but I want to take our relatively fast and stable house 802.11g signal and bridge it to ethernet. I have tried using an Airport Express (the b/g flavor) and my i7 MacBook pro, both to no avail. Word is that the b/g flavor of This flavor of Airport Express maxes at firmware 6.3 which doesn't support this kind of bridging properly. However, I expected my MacBook pro to do the job with its "Internet Sharing" feature. Alas, although my wired PC does sort of see it, it doesn't work out. Strangely, using DHCP the PC receives the same IP address as my MBP uses on the network. Less strangely, but still surprisingly, the wired ethernet port on my mac registers as the IP address of the gateway when queried with IFCONFIG. It sort of makes sense that the mac would "pretend" to be the gateway, but the whole thing just isn't working and seems configured wrong - but all the docs I see say basically "OS X Internet Sharing: click it and go". What do I do? Do i really have to buy more hardware, even though I have plenty of would-be candidates for bridging? Incidentally, the host router originating the 802.11g signal is a belkin 802.11g router, and is documented to support WDS.

  • Arch Linux: eth0 no carrier - network fails at boot

    - by user905686
The problem My computer is connected to a network where dhcp is required. So my network configuration in /etc/rc.conf looks like interface=eth0 address= netmask= broadcast= gateway= My deamons are DAEMONS=(!hwclock syslog-ng network netfs crond ntpd) With this configuration, Arch hangs at boot a long time at "Network" (Still it says "[done]", but after boot I have no connection). I found out two workaround: Workaround 1 remove network from deamons run mii-tool --reset eth0 and dhcpcd eth0 after boot (somehow it does not work when placing these commands in /etc/rc.local. Then dhcp work very quickly (because of the reset!). Before executing the first command, ip link show eth0 has "NO CARRIER" in output. Afterwards, it doesn´t. (Also, mii-tool first shows "no link", afterwards eth0: 10 Mbit, half duplex, link ok. Workaround 2 Change network configuration to interface=eth0 address=x.y.z.21 netmask=255.255.255.0 broadcast=xxx.y.z.255 gateway=x.y.z.254 whereas x, y, z build the specific adresses of the network (Though dhcp is used, I get a static ip). Add the commands mii-tool --reset eth0 and dhcpcd eth0 to /etc/rc.local Now network starts quickly at boot (though I don´t know if successfully), the commands in /etc/rc.local are executed and the connection is fine after login. What to do? So the problem seems to be that dhcpcd stucks at "wating for carrier" or sth. I do not like the workaround, because some deamons need network (though they seem to start). What can I do to have eth0 ready for dhcp at boot? Or is there another problem?

  • dhcp3-server (dhcpd) is tampering with host NIC

    - by user61000
Hi all, I have a debian box that is serving as a router (using iptables NAT). When first turned on, everything works fine for a few minutes. Then the dhcp server assigns an IP (other than 192.168.0.1) to its' host NIC, eth0. This is NOT what I want. I just want dhcp3-server to listen on eth0, not assign it an IP, and changes the kernel routing table. This of course ruins the NAT capablities of the box. How can I tell the dhcp3-server NOT to do this? Thanks Before dhcp3-server tampers with eth0, the IP is 192.168.0.1, and the routing table looks like this: ~# netstat -r Kernel IP routing table Destination Gateway Iface 192.168.0.0 * eth0 173.33.220.0 * eth1 default 173.33.220.1 eth1 After dhcp3-server tampers with eth0, the IP is 192.168.0.3, and the routing table looks like this: ~# netstat -r Kernel IP routing table Destination Gateway Iface 192.168.0.0 * eth0 173.33.220.0 * eth1 default 192.168.0.1 eth0 default 173.33.220.1 eth1 SETUP Outbound NIC is eth1 Internal NIC is eth0 /etc/network/interfaces ... iface eth0 inet static address 192.168.0.1 netmask 255.255.255.0 /etc/default/dhcp3-server INTERFACES="eth0"

  • which virtualization technology is right for me?

    - by Chris
I need a little help with this getting this sorted out. I want to setup a linux virtual server that I can use to run both sever and desktop systems. I want a linux system that is minimalist in nature as all the main os will be doing is acting as a hypervisor. The system I'm trying to setup will be running a file server, windows 7, ubuntu 10.04, windows xp and a firewall/gateway security system. All the client OS'es accessing and storing files on the file server. Also all network traffic will be routed through the gateway guest os. The file sever will need direct disk access while the other guests can run one disk images. All of this will be running on the same computer so I wont be romoting in to access the guests OS'es. Also if possible I would like to be able to use my triple head setup in the guest OS'es. I've looked at Xen, kvm and virtualbox but I don't know which is the best for me. I'm really debating between kvm and virtual box as kvm seem to support direct hardware access.

  • PCs on domain can not resolve external IP addresses using the DC's DNS Server

    - by Ben
I currently have a domain controller which handles all DHCP and DNS. The DHCP works just fine and the domain controller itself can use the internet with no issues. • Requests are making it to my app server, but not into node.js -- why?

    - by Zane Claes
I detailed in this question on StackOverflow how some random requests are not making it from the client to my Node.js app server, resulting in a gateway timeout. In summary, identical requests are, at random, not even making it far enough to trigger a console.log() in my first line of express middleware. I need to narrow down the problem, though, to find out WHERE the traffic is being lost and it was suggested that I try a packet sniffer on my app servers. Here's my setup: 2x Load Balancers (m1.larges) 2x node.js servers (also m1.large) Here's what's interesting/unusual: the node.js servers started as PHP servers with an Apache stack and continue to serve PHP files for my domain (streamified.me). However, I use a little httpd.conf magic on the app servers so that requests to api.streamified.me get routed over port 8888 to the node.js server: RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^api.streamified.me RewriteRule ^(.*) http://localhost:8888$1 [P] So, the request hits the load balancer = goes to an app server = gets routed to port 8888 if it's intended for the API = gets handled by node.js So, in the same httpd.conf file, I turned on RewriteLogLevel 5 and then created a simple PHP+CURL script on my localhost to hit my api.streamified.me with a random URL (which should cause node.js to trigger a simple "not found" response) until it resulted in a Gateway timeout. Here, you can see that it has happened -- and the rewrite log shows that the request was definitely received by the app server and forwarded to port 8888... but it was never received by node.js (or, at least, the first line of code in the first line of middleware never gets it...) • Connect trough remote computer connection

    - by Didac
First, sorry for my english and my poor knowlodge of this subject. I have a dedicated server placed in Germany (windows 2008 R2) and I live in spain. I would like to access internet from my home computer (Windows 7 Pro x64), trough my server in Germany, so I can use a German IP, what I need some times. I have complete acces in to both computers, but I just don't know where to start. (My knwoledge is limited to software development :/ ) I'd like to know where to start, if I need to create a VPN and so.. Thanks in advance! Update 1 I tried a lot of options of OpenVPN, but I sadly I know nothing abuot networking, so I have to accept I do not know what I'm doing :( Here are my config files (note most of the options are from the sample config files). server.conf #server config file start port 1194 proto udp dev tun server 10.0.0.0 255.255.255.224 #you may choose any subnet. 10.0.0.x is used for this example. ca "C:\\Program Files (x86)\\OpenVPN\\easy-rsa\\keys\\ca.crt" cert "C:\\Program Files (x86)\\OpenVPN\\easy-rsa\\keys\\server.crt" key "C:\\Program Files (x86)\\OpenVPN\\easy-rsa\\keys\\server.key" dh "C:\\Program Files (x86)\\OpenVPN\\easy-rsa\\keys\\dh1024.pem" push "redirect-gateway def1" push "dhcp-option DNS 8.8.8.8" #the following commands are optional keepalive 10 120 comp-lzo persist-key persist-tun verb 5 #config file ends client.conf #client config file start client dev tun proto udp remote 176.9.99.180 1194 resolv-retry infinite nobind persist-key persist-tun ca "C:\\Program Files (x86)\\OpenVPN\\easy-rsa\\keys\\ca.crt" cert "C:\\Program Files (x86)\\OpenVPN\\easy-rsa\\keys\\client1.crt" key "C:\\Program Files (x86)\\OpenVPN\\easy-rsa\\keys\\client1.key" ns-cert-type server comp-lzo verb 5 explicit-exit-notify 2 ping 10 ping-restart 60 route-method exe route-delay 2 # end of client config file And here's the server's network settings: IP address: 176.9.99.180 Subnet mask: 255.255.255.224 Default gateway: 176.9.99.161 Preferred DNS server: 127.0.0.1

  • Problem connecting to remote network using demand-dial VPN interface with Windows Server 2003

    - by Mike Forman
I have a Windows 2003 server (SP2) that I'm trying to set up route traffic from my local network using a VPN My local network has the following components: Broadband router (192.168.0.1) Windows Server with a single NIC running RRAS (192.168.0.2 def. gateway = 192.168.0.1) Client Machine (192.168.0.3 def. gateway = 192.168.0.1) Using a VPN connection, I am trying to access a remote machine (10.0.0.1 for example) I configured RRAS with a demand-dial interface for the VPN and set it to be a persistent connection. As part of that setup, a static route to 10.0.0.0 (255.255.0.0) was created. When at the console of the server, I can ping 10.0.0.1 with no problems I added a route on the client machine using the following command: ROUTE ADD 10.0.0.0 MASK 255.255.0.0 192.168.0.2 If I run tracert 10.0.0.1 from the client, the first hop is to 192.168.0.2 which tells me that route is working. However, I cannot ping 10.0.0.1 from the client machine. What am I missing? Hopefully something simple.

  • XP - ping changes routing table?

    - by Corelgott
Hey Folks, I have got a real strange behaviour with one of my XP-Sp3 machines. Setup: A Server in the lan (192.168.5.0) proviedes access to all roadwarriors in 10.8.0.0 The DCHP has a static route for all clients pronouncing 192.168.5.235 as gateway for 10.8.0.0 All Clients can ping & access the vpn-machines; everything works like a charm But one Xp-Sp3 is not willing to connect to them. It gets all the same routes as any other sytem in the lan and I trippel-checked - there are no static routes on this machine When I ping any 10.8.0.0 device from this machine, the first two packaged work like a charm; but the next two (and any package after them) fail and get lost. When I look back into the routing table: There is a new route; a special one just for the device I pinged, which points to the right gateway - but which wasn't there earlier... As Long as this route exists the machine can't ping anything on 10.8.0.0. But if I remove the route by hand: The next to ping packages work fine... Has anybody got an idea about that? Anybody every seen such a behaviour? Any hint / help / tip is greatly appreachiated! thx in advance Corelgott Ps: I attach an image of the cmd to clarify things - its in german, but reading a routing table shouldn't be that hard...

  • Remote network traffic not passing through VPN

    - by John Virgolino
We have the following topology: LAN A LAN B LAN C 10.14.0.0/16 <-VPN-> 10.18.0.0/16 --- SONICWALL <-VPN-> M0N0WALL --- 10.32.0.0/16 Traffic between LAN A and LAN B works perfectly. Traffic between LAN C and LAN B works perfectly. Traffic between LAN A and LAN C, not so much. LAN A's gateway has a route to LAN C that points to the Sonicwall. The Sonicwall has a route to LAN A pointing to the VPN gateway connecting LAN B to LAN A. Tracing packets on the Sonicwall shows the LAN C destined traffic to arrive on the Sonicwall, but it does not forward the traffic, it dies there. Traffic from LAN B gets forwarded. Tracing packets on the Sonicwall while sending traffic from LAN C destined for LAN A shows nothing. This tells me that the M0N0WALL is not forwarding traffic for the 10.14.0.0 network and the Sonicwall is not forwarding from 10.14.0.0. The SA on the Sonicwall terminates on the WAN ZONE and is defined to use an address group that incorporates both the 10.14.0.0 and 10.18.0.0 networks. The M0N0WALL is configured for the 10.18.0.0 network and I have tried with both a static route to 10.14.0.0 and without on the M0N0WALL. I tried manually adding the 10.14.0.0 network to the SA on the M0N0WALL, but that really aggravated it and the SA never came up, so I reverted. I have checked all the firewall rules to make sure nothing is blocked. All of the Sonicwall auto-added rules look right. Specs: Sonicwall TZ200, Enhanced OS M0N0WALL v1.32 I'm at a loss at this point. Any help would be appreciated.
