• JMF. Create new custom streamdatasource

  Hi there. I am looking to create a means of building a DataSource object (and hence a Processor) that gets data from a stream instead of a file, RTP, and so on. I am writing a module for a much larger application that is meant to transparently transcode audio data. Going through the JMF docs only specify how to create a source from file however I need to be able to create a source from a stream within my application. Any idea where I can start looking?

• JAXB appending unneeded namespace declarations to tags

  I'm implementing a homebrew subprotocol of XMPP, and i'm using combination of StAX and JAXB for parsing/marshalling mesages. And when I marshall a message I end up with loads of unneded namespace declarations: <ns2:auth xmlns:ns2="urn:ietf:params:xml:ns:ilf-auth" xmlns:ns4="ilf:iq:experiment:power" xmlns:ns3="ilf:iq:experiment:init" xmlns:ns5="ilf:iq:experiment:values" xmlns:ns6="ilf:iq:experiment:result" xmlns:ns7="ilf:iq:experiment:stop" xmlns:ns8="ilf:iq:experiment:end"> compton@ilf</ns2:auth> instead of: <ns:auth xmlns:ns="urn:ietf:params:xml:ns:ilf-auth>compton@ilf</ns:auth> Is there any way to turn that of? All these namespaces are used in different messages that get marshalled/unmarshalled by JAXB, but every message uses one namespace. PS. I am not an XML expert please dont rant me if I did some stupid mistake ;)

• Autocomplete server-side implementation

  What is a fast and efficient way to implement the server-side component for an autocomplete feature in an html input box? I am writing a service to autocomplete user queries in our web interface's main search box, and the completions are displayed in an ajax-powered dropdown. The data we are running queries against is simply a large table of concepts our system knows about, which matches roughly with the set of wikipedia page titles. For this service obviously speed is of utmost importance, as responsiveness of the web page is important to the user experience. The current implementation simply loads all concepts into memory in a sorted set, and performs a simple log(n) lookup on a user keystroke. The tailset is then used to provide additional matches beyond the closest match. The problem with this solution is that it does not scale. It currently is running up against the VM heap space limit (I've set -Xmx2g, which is about the most we can push on our 32 bit machines), and this prevents us from expanding our concept table or adding more functionality. Switching to 64-bit VMs on machines with more memory isn't an immediate option. I've been hesitant to start working on a disk-based solution as I am concerned that disk seek time will kill performance. Are there possible solutions that will let me scale better, either entirely in memory or with some fast disk-backed implementations? Edits: @Gandalf: For our use case it is important the the autocompletion is comprehensive and isn't just extra help for the user. As for what we are completing, it is a list of concept-type pairs. For example, possible entries are [("Microsoft", "Software Company"), ("Jeff Atwood", "Programmer"), ("StackOverflow.com", "Website")]. We are using Lucene for the full search once a user selects an item from the autocomplete list, but I am not yet sure Lucene would work well for the autocomplete itself. @Glen: No databases are being used here. When I'm talking about a table I just mean the structured representation of my data. @Jason Day: My original implementation to this problem was to use a Trie, but the memory bloat with that was actually worse than the sorted set due to needing a large number of object references. I'll read on the ternary search trees to see if it could be of use.

  Hello , I have a problem about streaming my video to server in real-time from my phone. that is , let my phone be a IP Camera , and server can watch the live video from my phone I have googled many many solutions, but there is no one can solve my problem. My call to sendReceive crashes with the following error: com.ctc.wstx.exc.WstxUnexpectedCharException: Unexpected character 'C' (code 67) in prolog; expected '<' The 'C' is the first character on the comment in the WSDL. Without that comment everything works fine, but as far as my knowledge of basic XML dictates that comment is correct. My question would be: Is this a bug in Axis2 or is the accessed WSDL malformed? Is there any way to prevent Axis2 from crashing under these circumstances?

• How to customize android analog clock widget through configuration screen

  I'm trying to develop my own analog clock widget on the home screen. It's based on the stock ICS analog clock widget, but when added to the homescreen, my widget opens a configuration screen first. On this screen you can choose the color you want the clock to be (through a colorpicker dialog). You also see a preview of the clock in the chosen color on this screen. (See picture). My problem is changing the color of the widget on the home screen to the chosen color (when you hit the apply button). I have three .png files that I use for the dial, hour hand and minute hand. But RemoteViews seems too limited to do this. I need something like setTextViewText() but then for the background of my analog clock widget, like for example: RemoteViews views = new RemoteViews(context.getPackageName(), R.layout.clockwidget); views.setAnalogClockBackgroundDrawable(dial); The clock widget background seems sort of unchangeable. How can I recolor my clockwidget on homescreen in widgetconfig class? There must be a way because it seems so easy to do at first... My project consists of the widget config class and clockwidget class, widgetconfig.xml, clockwidget.xml, and widget_info.xml (for appwidgetprovider).

  Background: I have two 2d arrays. Each index within each 2d array represents a tile which is drawn on a square canvas suitable for 8 x 8 tiles. Problem I am unsure of how I can draw the position on the grid. I was thinking of a similar loop, so it draws over the previous 2d array another set of 64 tiles. Only this time they are all transparent but the one tile which isn't null. In other words, the tile where Person is located. I wanted to use a search throughout the loop using a comparative if statement along the lines of if(!(world[] == null)){ map.add(new RectangleObject(p,35,35,Colour.red));} However my knowledge is limited and I am confused on how to implement it.

• UI not updated while using ProgressMonitorInputStream in Swing to monitor compressed file decompress

  I'm working on swing application that relies on an embedded H2 database. Because I don't want to bundle the database with the app(the db is frequently updated and I want new users of the app to start with a recent copy), I've implemented a solution which downloads a compressed copy of the db the first time the application is started and extracts it. Since the extraction process might be slow I've added a ProgressMonitorInputStream to show to progress of the extraction process - unfortunately when the extraction starts, the progress dialog shows up but it's not updated at all. It seems like to events are getting through to the event dispatch thread. I don't won't a solution based on SwingWorker + property changed listeners - I think that the ProgressMonitorInputStream is exactly what I need, but I guess I'm not doing something right. I'm using Sun JDK 1.6.18. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

• OO vs Simplicity when it comes to user interaction

  Firstly, sorry if this question is rather vague but it's something I'd really like an answer to. As a project over summer while I have some downtime from Uni I am going to build a monopoly game. This question is more about the general idea of the problem however, rather than the specific task I'm trying to carry out. I decided to build this with a bottom up approach, creating just movement around a forty space board and then moving on to interaction with spaces. I realised that I was quite unsure of the best way of proceeding with this and I am torn between two design ideas: Giving every space its own object, all sub-classes of a Space object so the interaction can be defined by the space object itself. I could do this by implementing different land() methods for each type of space. Only giving the Properties and Utilities (as each property has unique features) objects and creating methods for dealing with the buying/renting etc in the main class of the program (or Board as I'm calling it). Spaces like go and super tax could be implemented by a small set of conditionals checking to see if player is on a special space. Option 1 is obviously the OO (and I feel the correct) way of doing things but I'd like to only have to handle user interaction from the programs main class. In other words, I don't want the space objects to be interacting with the player. Why? Errr. A lot of the coding I've done thus far has had this simplicity but I'm not sure if this is a pipe dream or not for larger projects. Should I really be handling user interaction in an entirely separate class? As you can see I am quite confused about this situation. Is there some way round this? And, does anyone have any advice on practical OO design that could help in general?
