• Adding arbitrary search URLs to Firefox search bar

  New-ish versions of Firefox (I'm currently on 3.6) have the nifty "search bookmark" feature, which allows you to create searches in the location bar with custom URLs, e.g. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%s. This is really great, but when trying to mange the engines in the search bar, I was dismayed at the lack of customisability there. It looks like the two search methods are entirely distinct. Is there a way to put custom URLs in my search bar, or do I have to just hope that whatever I want is on the long but finite list of plugins at mycroft? • How to bypass Plesk's Loading Window

  I'm in trouble with the loading window in Parallels Plesk control panel. it prevents any action before page completely loaded. It can be bypassed by unchecking "Prevent users from working with the control panel until interface screens are completely loaded" in the "Interface Preferences" in the each user's control panel, but I wanna to disable it for all accounts of the server. I haven't found any option in the panel to do it, is there any hack? or who knows where I can change it in the psa database? Hope to ask in a correct place. Thanks

• Best choice for off-site backup: dd vs tar

  I have two 1TB single-partition hard disks configured as RAID1, of which I would like to make an off-site backup on a third disk, which I am still to buy. The idea is to store the backup at a relative's house, considerably far away from my place, in the hope that all the information will be safe in the case of a global thermonuclear apocalypse. Of course, this backup would be well encrypted. What I still have to decide is whether I am going to simply tar the entire partition or, instead, use dd to create an image of the disks. Is there any non-trivial difference between these two approaches that I could be overlooking? This off-site backup would be updated no more than two or three times a year, in the best of the cases, so performance should not be a factor to be pondered at all. What, and why, would you use if you were me? dd, tar, or a third option?

  Hi all, I don't know if this is the correct place to answer this question, but here it goes. I have been googling for a cheap email to sip voicemail service. That is because I have got a Linksys/Cisco SPA-941 phone which has a led which will light up when a new message comes in inbox(somebody calls me). So what I want is the following. I want the e-mail(title only is enough) recorded(By computer voice) and sent to my phone which I can playback when the led lights up. • Is it possible to make the Numpad 5 button work as the Numpad Down button while Num Lock is on?

  I hope someone can help me out with this; I use a laptop and I like to play games a lot that are arrow key dependent. So after a while of using my laptop, I accidentally broke the Down Arrow key. So I decided to try and find out how to make the Numpad5 button work as the Numpad Down button while Numlock is on. I was trying to use AutoHotkey, but so far I've had no luck. Can anyone help me out with this? So far the scripts I used that didn't work were Numpad5::NumpadDown or Numpad5::Down. Am I doing something wrong here?

• How to loop AHK by user input?

  is there a way to loop a certain script using user input per INPUTBOX? The script below runs only once when i klick the button for it. Is there any way for the script to popup something where it asks for a number for it to loop? Lets say something pops up and i give in "10". Then the script is executed 10 times. • Google Account Changes that Messed Up My Ability to Manage Sites

  I hope you can help... I have a google account that I use to manage my church website. This account is set up with my work email address. My work (a school system) is in the process of changing us all over to use google accounts to replace Outlook. When I logged in to this new account (which is my same email address) it no longer lets me manage my google site. Under my dashboard I can see that my data is still there, but when I try to "manage" my site it says I don't have one and re-directs me to my school's account. Thanks in advance. A Yearwood

• Mac Mini monitor on the move – can I use VNC or a portable monitor?

  I have been investigating the possibility of using my PC to control my soon to arrive Mac Mini when on the move. I can't afford and hope you don't give me answers suggesting buying a MacBook. My Mac Mini is the high end type. Now I have seen that the only viable option seems to be VNC. But how does this work if I am not on a network? Does VNC work with an ad-hoc network? Can a PC be connected to a Mac on such a network? Can this network be configured once at home and then be available on startup on the move? If I have an iPhone, can I use it as my wifi? But then, how would I start the Mac Mini to make the connection, since it wouldn't have a screen on the move? Finally, are there any small portable screens one can carry in a bag?

• Error setting up Data Protection Manager 2010 Agents / Network "Unauthenticated" in network settings

  I'm not sure if the two are connected but i suspect they are. Basically I'm tring to setup Data Protection Manager 2010 on a fresh install of Server 2008 R2 in a SBS 2003 domain. Everything went fine until trying to install agents across the network. Upon clicking add, i get the following error message: Unable to connect to the Active Directory Domain Services Database. Make sure that the DPM server is a member of a domain and that the controller is running. Also verify that there is network connectivity between the DPM server and the domain controller. ID: 7 As usual (worryingly) the MSDN support for 2010 products is nearly non existant, clicking the error ID simply gives a page not found error. So after 2 days of Googling and trying various fixes (DNS settings, adding permissions to GPO objects, rejoining the domain and many more) I thought I'd ask here in the hope that someone out there may have had this issue before. Any help greatly appreciated!

• Can't ping some IP addresses in the same subnet (LAN) Windows 2011 Server

  Hi I’m running in Windows Small Server 2011 server standard (192.168.1.108), it’s my dhcp and dns server too, but suddenly all other users can’t get internet. My gateway is 192.168.1.1. After a lots of tested I can saw that my server can’t get into the router (192.168.1.1), and also into some others computers, but some other computers answer the ping command. In fact the same computer with the IP 192.168.1.9 didn't answer, but with the IP 192.168.1.63, it response! I have no routers, firewall, vlans or anything that disallow the traffic between computers, in fact when I changed the server IP address (192.168.1.109), I be able to ping the other computers and gateway, but if a back to the 192.168.1.108 the trouble comeback. • Can I get "disk utilization" from a NetApp filer via SNMP?

  On a NetApp filer's command line I'm running "sysstat -u" to show disk utilization, (actually the utilization of the single busiest disk). By disk utilization, I mean "percent of time the disk is busy", not "how much space on the disk is being used to store data/metadata". Is there a way to get disk utilization info through SNMP? The netapp.mib file doesn't appear to expose this. It does have CPU utilization, disk usage & capacity information, etc, but not disk utilization. The MIB-II (rfc1213) seems to be the only other information exposed by the filer through SNMP. I hope I am missing something. The "CP (consistency point) time" metric is exposed through the NETAPP-MIB in SNMP, but this seems to only partially correlate with disk utilization under write load, and not really at all under read load.

  I followed these instructions to create self-signed ssl: http://www.visualwin.com/SelfSSL/ (I opened SelfSSL and typed selfssl /T) When I access https: //localhost/ than it works, but when I try to access it remotely (i set up my router to port forward to localhost), for example https: //myip the page does not load. Also, I noticed one other thing. When I access localhost locally then I am asked to enter user/pass, but if I access remotely the I get the following warning: Under Construction The site you were trying to reach does not currently have a default page. It may be in the process of being upgraded and configured. ... I don't know if it is related with this but I hope someone know the answer. Thanks, Ile

  I have been attempting to install Ubuntu (10.04, Lucid Lynx) on my computer. I wasn't ready to take the pure-Linux plunge yet, so I reserved a partition on which I would install Ubuntu. I ran the installer and answered the 'minor' questions (keyboard layout, time zone, etc.), but had trouble when I reached the partitioning. I have several partitions, but Ubuntu only saw one of them, which was not the ext3 partition that I had set up. I tried deleting the partition in hope that the installer would find and utilize the empty space, but it only saw the original partition. I do not have an external hard drive to use, and I cannot clear any existing partitions. Am I running the installer incorrectly, or is there a more serious problem?

  Hi! Problem 1: I have Ubuntu 9.10 installed and Workstation 7.01. All VMs (WinXP, Win7, Debian) I run do not resize any more. Problem 2: Unity Mode "Bar" works for short and disapears after seconds .. opened programs with unity mode work well, but the bar disapears History: I changed from Ubuntu 9.04 to 9.10, no VM was moved or changed. Latest VMWare Tools are installed, Auto fit Guest is activated. I am quite sure, that resizing / auto fitting and Unity Mode worked well with Ubuntu 9.04 thx for a hint, i hope didn't overlook something ..

I have a 3 yr old MacBook Pro and lately I've been getting an error msg when I try to download something to my machine, This is what it says: Download error /Users/scarletriley/Downloads/the name of document goes here- no spaces of course! could not be opened, because an unknown error occurred. • Apache repeatedly crashing in OS X 10.6.5

  I want to be using the system default Apache available through Web Sharing, not MAMP. Other questions/answers related to similar problems have not helped. Initially, I had MAMP running, but I stopped it because I thought it might be causing a conflict, that didn't work. I also had an issue with apachectl related to the 10.6.5 update, which I fixed. Apachectl reports no syntax errors and seems to be working fine to start|stop|restart apache. • Linux/Gentoo: KDM, startx & session problem

  I'm using startx in my .bashrc file to start X (I'm using KDE 4.3.4) when I login at tty1 instead of using a display manager like KDM. Now the problem is since KDM is not running I'm not able to use the shut down button from the KDE menu (because it needs root privileges to do so, of course) and some other features are gone as well. Is there a way to start KDM when I run startx in my .bashrc, like just running KDM in the background? The point is that I want no login display, so I'm sure there must be a way to just start KDM silently. Regards & I hope for answers!

• Login problems on SQL EXPRESS using a user

  Hello Serverfault. First time I set up a SQL server, so I hope you can help me out. I have a problem regarding logging in using SQL auth on my SQL EXPRESS 2008. I have added a user though the management interface as you can see on the image below. But as soon as I try to login using SQL auth I get an error the login failed for the user. The server log says: Login failed for user 'zebisgaard'. Reason: Could not find a login matching the name provided. [CLIENT: <named pipe>] Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State: 5. Do you have an idea why? I have triple checked that the username/password is correct, tried to recreate the user and so much more. And all this is localhost.

• Flash player, HD videos and games are choppy

  I have a problem with flash player. HD videos from Youtube or Vimeo and flash games do not play smoothly. I'm using Flash player 11, Windows 7 Sp1, and my graphic card is Intel GMA 4500. Device Manager shows me that all drivers are installed on my computer, so i don't have any problems with drivers. When I run Google chrome, Resource Monitor shows me 15% ~ 40 % of CPU Usage and 40% used Physical Memory, but when I watch a video on Youtube or play a Flash game, the Resource Monitor shows 70% - 90% CPU Usage. Also, when I run some HD Video (Frame width : 1920, Frame height : 1080) on my computer, Device Manager shows me 80% ~ 100% of CPU Usage. before I Reinstall Windows 7, HD Videos and flash games were play smoothly I hadn't any problem with them !! I hope all these informations are enough to answer my question.

• Copying OS X account settings to new user account

  Hi I hope someone can help me... I accidentally renamed my own user name on my mac running OS X 10.4.11 and tried renaming back to what it was but now I have two accounts (the one I want to use which has all my preferences, applications, mail boxes, etc etc) is it possible to copy my settings from my original into this new user name? When I open my computer it defaults to this new account but everything is setting up from new and I just need to get access to all my work documents, mail settings etc. If there is anyone who could help out, I would be very grateful. • SVN Merge two reposiories - what about the UUIDs?

  Hi, This is my scenario: Originally had two seperate repositories, I need to merge these into one repository. I don't care too much about the history in these repositories. I created a new repository and can import the repositories no problem. The issue is with users working copies, I can ask them to switch --relocate them however there is the issue of the UUID which will be different for each original repository: I can only reassign the UUID in the new repository to match one of the original repositories. So what is the best method to resolve this issue? (I suspect/hope I am going about this wrong...) Any ideas appreciated! -Grant.

• Installing VS2010 components with SP1 beta

  Hello, I hope this is the place for this kind of question. I have VS2010 ult with the Service Pack 1 beta installed. I want to play with F# and I need to install it. The problem is that because I have the SP1 installed, the VS DVD can't install the F# compiler. I click on add new feature, I click on F#, the installer says: "A selected drive is not longer valid. Please review your installation path settings before continuing with setup." Of course the path is correct and I can't change it anyway... I think that problem is because I have the SP1. I had the same problem in the past with VS2008 + SP1. What can I do? Uninstalling VS2010 is not an option, it take ages. Thank you.

• What is the keyboard shortcut to clear formatting on Office 2008 Mac?

  I recently switched from a PC to a brand new Macbook Pro. I was happy to see that most of the keyboard shortcuts in Word 2008 where the same or almost the same than in Word 2007. However, there is one keyboard shortcut that I dearly miss : the clear formatting shortcut (ctrl + space on Windows). I know the feature exists since it's in the formatting bar, but I can't find the keyboard shorcut. I tried cmd + space but that is the system keyboard shortcut to switch the keyboard type. alt + space delete the text without deleting the formatting. ctrl + space doesn't seem to do anything. Does anyone know what the keyboard shortcut for the clear formatting command may be? I hope there's one because it's really painful to reach for the mouse everytime I put a title and I want to switch to a normal paragraph style...
