• How to create public html (apache2) with LDAP authentication?

  Im running Apache2 on Ubuntu 12.04 Server because I want to create a home directory for each ldap user. I'm using LDAP for authentication and it's working ok. Also I've done some tests with LDAP module for Apache2 and it's working ok. The problem with this LDAP authentication is that any success login can access to ~user/public_html, even if the user is not the owner of that home. I dont know how to control that, for example, userldap2 access to userldap1/public_html. I want that only the userldap1 access to userldap1. Could anybody tell me how to control that with LDAP authentication? I hope that you'll understand me. • Visual Studio Paired Editor Panes

  Is there any way to make Visual Studio have "paired" editor panes, somewhat like XCode's Assistant Editor feature? More specifically, I'd like to replicate the XCode feature of having a .cpp file's .h partner be automatically open in an adjacent editor panel. So, when a .cpp file is opened in a text editor panel (let's say, on the left of the screen), its analogous .h file will open in another panel (on the right). That way both can be edited on the same screen at the same time, without the need to manually place both files in their respective editor panes. Hope that makes sense, I'm not really sure what terminology to use in order to search for existing solutions.

DNS root domain = (nameless) However, after reading the Wikipedia article, I'm not so sure: A domain name consists of one or more parts, technically called labels, that are conventionally concatenated, and delimited by dots, such as example.com. • ASP.NET Website not responding

  Hello everybody I am setting with my server tech, trying to figure out what is going on here. When I try to access my site through a browser, my site hangs indefinately. It does not respond with anything, not even after 15 minutes! The application pool has been restarted, the website has been restarted. Doesn't helpt at all. It happened during an upload. A backup has been loaded and the problem is still the same It is a very urgent matter, I hope someone can help me! I think we are on a IIS 6 on a Windows 2003 Server. (Remote hosted, with a tech, who has no idea what the issue is as well, so I am trying to find the solution alogn with him). Any suggestions are VERY appriciated.

• Windows Firewall: How to allow traffic on port 8080?

  I am trying to configure team Foundation Server so that 1) it is accessible from within my Home Network 2) and then make the Web site access accessible via the Internet I have a problem with point 1: When I access http://192.168.1.106:8080/tfs/web/ locally from 192.168.1.106, it works. When I access the same web site from another PC in my home network, the abive URL works only if I turn of the Firewall on 192.168.1.106. Can someone please tell me specifically how to allow traffic on port 8080 without turning off Windows Firewall? It seems that the exceptions that I specify are intended for listing programs on the box that need to communicate out. Is IIS the program that I need to make the exception? How do I specify that port 8080 traffic should be allowed for web site traffic on this port? I hope to have success with pt. 2 later but I figure (1) should be done first. I expect issues.

Additionaly that profile was created locally when a domain-user logged in, and I like to create a copy of that profile for a non-domain-user. Hope it's clear what my problem is. • problems with WindowsImageBackup and write protected drives

  On Windows 7 I created a System image of my computer (C: and reserved partition) onto a USB drive. No problem. I then formatted the C: and installed the OS -- no problem Now I would like use the System Image and get back some of my documents etc. But I can't get access wo the WindowsImageBackup folder on the USB drive 1) Somehow the drive is write protected --- how did that happen? How do I unprotect that drive. 2) I can't access the WindowsImageBackup folder because I suspect the ACL is out of wack with my new SID. I would add my new SID to the ACL but I can't because the drive is write protected At the moment I'm completely disconnected from my files, which I thought (and still hope) are backed up. Understandably, panic is now setting in.

  So I have two Windows domains/seperate forests. One forest consist of what is left of the bought-out company's domain. They have 5 servers that still have important data and need to be worked with on a daily basis by a large group of employees. We have a forest level trust setup to ease file access. We manually create DNS A records for the 5 servers so their short names would resolve to the IP addresses. I need the FQDN to resolve though. Should I create CName records to achieve this? I hope this question makes sense, I am learning DNS on the fly... :)

• Hardware upgrade: Windows 7 bluescreens, Vista loads

  I just did a fairly significant hardware upgrade while keeping my hard disks. The old system was a dell Optiplex 745 with an Intel Core 2 duo, LGA 775. The new system is custom built, Intel i5 750. I know you're supposed to do a clean install with a hardware upgrade like this, but I'd had success in the past doing the stealth hardware upgrade like this, so I figured I'd give it a shot. Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit gets through the loading screen and immediately blue screens and reboots. Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit, which I have on an old hard drive from an AMD box (!!) loads up fine. I ran through the windows memory checker just to be sure, and my memory is fine. So, is the BSOD the result of some sort of protection mechanism specific to Windows 7? Is there any hope of salvaging that install?

  Got a new XFX GTX260^2 video card. The only problem is the "Minimum power" is 500W on the box. I've got a Chieftec 450AA PSU with just a minimal number of attached stuff (1hdd, WD green; 6gb (4module) ram; dvd writer). Bought a cable for the 6pin power input on the card. Got picture, works in every aspect. Still. Should I get a new PSU (like a Corsair or Antec 600W)? Will the card perform slower with this PSU? (Yeah the last part is a particular question but in I'm also asking in generic. I was wondering about this so many times and I hope we'll put and end for this question for once and for all.)

• Detecting/Reactivating serial port that becomes inactive on Ubuntu Linux 10.10

  I am using a usb2serial port to communicate with some old equipment (using my code built upon the boost asio library - I think my code is fine because it works almost all of the time). Every so often (maybe once every few days) the communication stops with my device with no error at all - the device just does not respond. I then restart my computer and everything is fine again. Does anyone know where I can start to analyse this problem? My serial port loads up fine (in /dev/ttyUSB0) and the boost library does not throw an error. The device just does not respond. If I restart the device no change - only when I restart my pc does it make a difference. I have also tried unplugging and replugging the usb connector. Does anyone know what gets cleared in the reboot (w.r.t the serial device) or what I can probe when the problem happens again (rather than just restarting with hope)

• Concatenate cells that change daily automatically?

  I use concatenate to pull data together from different cells in my spreadsheet. Since my data changes daily, I want the formula to also change daily without having to manually input the new cell in the concatenate formula. I am looking for a way to do this but not sure how. Can anyone out there help me out please!? I appreciate the assistance in advance! Maybe this will help to explain what I need. I have a row of data from D4:AH4 that I insert daily based on the new day. When I use the concatenate and us the following formula: =CONCATENATE(TEXT('Raw Data'!B4,"m/d")," ",TEXT('Raw Data'!C4,"")," ", TEXT('Raw Data'!E4,"0.0%"))... E4 being the cell that changes daily where next day would be F4, G4, etc... All other parts of the formula will stay the same. I hope this helps! Thanks! :)

  I am using Microsoft Word 2010 to format a book. I need different headers for different parts of the book. I have put them in different sections but my problem is when I click on Header to change or delete certain headers it changes the pages around in my document. For instance when I am looking at the page regularly the writing and section for page 20 is different then the writing and section when I am looking at it with the header and footer open. This is very frustrating because I can not properly change the headers. I hope this makes sense and somebody can explain what is going on and how to resolve this!

• URL redirect to a virtual server on a VLAN

  I have a production site, running off 10 servers. I've been given another virtual server on the same network as these 10 servers, to use for testing purposes. This server doesn't have it's own DNS entry. Therefore I need to do a redirect to the site hosted on this virtual server for a sub-domain of the site running on the 10 other servers. So Basically I was wondering how I would configure a sub domain of my production server to point at the Virtual server for testing. I'm guessing I need to modify my site file in /etc/apache2/sites-available and add another virtual host like the following and modify the redirect match: <VirtualHost *> ServerName SUBDOMAIN.DOMAIN.com RedirectMatch 301 (.*) **IP ADDRESS** CustomLog /var/log/apache2/SUBDOMAIN.DOMAIN.com.access.log combined </VirtualHost> Do I set the redirect match to just the IP on the Virtual server, and then configure another site file in the sites-available directory, which will recption this redirect and point the browser towards the HTML root? This is because I use a screen reader software and audio output directly from VMs is not highly responsive. • CPU spikes on small site- possibly apache or php config related

  Hello, I hope you can help me. I have a site that I'm moving to a new datacenter. The server is pretty much vanilla, no control panel, and also no optimizations. When I hit a page, the site takes an extremely long time to load, despite it being relatively light weight. I ran top to see what was happening, and the cpu jumps to 75%, and drops back down to about 20% while the rest of the page is loading. Someone suggested that I ran lsof -p on the offending processes, but I'm not sure what I'm looking at. I ran through my httpd.conf file and commented out a bunch of loaded modules that didn't seem necessary, but that didn't help either. Anyone have any ideas?   Notepad++ does auto-complete for html and also for JavaScript. but the auto-completion depends on file extension.html file supports completion for html only. Is there a way to enable auto-completion for javascript in the script tag of an html file? I mean, other than copying the auto-completion keyword list from "javascript.xml" to "html.xml" files... As suggested on stackoverflow, asking on superuser, as I could not find a satisfactory answer there. If anyone has any idea, please let me know! The site is also an office, so it includes windows dc, windows ad, exchange, sql, file sharing, development app servers and other pcs. In addition to office (internal) things, there are both test and prod environments consisting of a web server-app server-sql stack. There is also ftp service open to public. I consider: dmz1 - web server - exchange edge - ftp dmz2 - app server - sql for app server internal - dc and ad - exchange hub and transport - internal file sharing - sql for internal use - app servers for internal use - pcs public - dmz1, only web, ftp and smtp public - dmz2 not possible public - internal not possible dmz1 - dmz2 is possible from web servers to app servers by using http or ajp dmz1 - internal is only possible for exchange, otherwise not possible dmz2 - internal not possible Does this sound ok ? Any other recommendations ? It will be configured using either MS ISA or Jupiter SSG. Thank you.

  i'm trying to figure out why my apache2 reverse proxy doesn't work... hope someone can clarify. i'm using an apache server as a gateway with proxy pass: 10.184.1.2 is the IP. these are PP instructions i inserted in the 000-default config file. ProxyPass / http://192.168.102.31/ ProxyPassReverse / http://192.168.102.31/ the host 192.168.102.31 is an internal IP of a subnet wich is not reachable directly by clients, but only by the apache gateway. when i try to access such a address: http://apache_gateway_name/dir i see the client trying to reach 192.168.102.31 address and of course timeout occurs. can someone help?   I'm running a PHP based game which has over 45 Million members predicted for end of this year (2011) Currently we are on 7.5 Million, this game is being ran on facebook and I am in desperate need to help get this game server as efficient and as powerful as possible. it is a dedicated server with Processor Manufacturer Intel Model i7 920 Frequency 4x 2x 2.66 GHz NIC GigaEthernet RAM 12 GB Hard disk 4 x 1 TB specs. It has apache installed, cPanel, phpMyAdmin, several apache mods and MySQL. The game also runs 47 mysql calls per second per user. Is there any alternatives to the above which could be faster, more efficient etc? I dont mind having to recode the game to fit to it, as long as it maximises our upper limit of members on the game.
