• How can i change focus when game locks it?

  I am playing wolfenstein:enemy territory, and if i play it in windowed mode, i can't change focus from game to something else (alt+tab doesnt work). EDIT1: As far as i could try, only ctrl+alt+Fx works (x is one number, for example F1 will switch to terminal). Could i somehow capture this kind of shortcut somewhere on X level and then send it to compiz to change focus (minimize currently focused window)? EDIT2: I found one other way, it works for Wolf:ET, it may help with other games too, if you turn on gameconsole (usually tilde key) game will release mouse lock (in windowed mode).

• How do I interpret direct traffic that lands on random pages?

  Looking at yesterday, according to Google Analytics, I got six direct visitors to my site (their source/medium is direct/(none)). Only one ended up at the actual domain. The other five ended up at miscellaneous foo.com/xyz.html. I did not send out links to people by email, and I'm not sure how likely it is the people would have copy/pasted the URLs. How do the visitors end up there? Is there a way to better capture where they might be coming from?

  I'm running Ubuntu 11 and I'm having some issues with grep. I have a shell script (see below) which essentially checks if a certain Java program of mine is running, if not it runs it. That part works out great! If my Java application throws any kind of exception however I would like to capture that information and email it to myself. How can I go about checking to see if the call to java -jar /bin/MyApp.jar fails? I tried piping it to grep, but that doesn't seem to work.   I've just started a programming job where I'm applying my 'How to code' knowledge to what I'm being taught of 'How to Program' (They are different!). As well of this I'm taught how to capture requirements from clients, so as to start a new project. How do I do this for a nebulous personal project? I say nebulous, as I often find halfway through programming something, I want to expand what my program will do, or alter the result. Eventually I'm tangled in code, and have to restart. This can be frustrating and off putting. Conversely when given a fixed task, and fixed requirements, it's much easier to programme from a - b. So how do I plan a personal programming project?

  XRegExp is an open source JavaScript library. It extends JavaScript’s regex syntax with features such as free-spacing, named capture, mode modifiers, and Unicode categories, blocks, and scripts. It also provides its own test(), exec(), forEach(), replace(), and split() methods that eliminate most cross-browser inconstencies and bugs. Anyone using non-trivial regexes in their JavaScript code should seriously consider using XRegExp. Last month’s update of the Regular-Expressions.info website added full coverage of XRegExp to the regex tutorial and regex reference sections.   Okay, here's what I want to do - when the player is at the main menu, I want them to be able to type in cheat codes. That's the only place I want it to work. I don't want to give them a text box to type into. Rather, I want them to simply type in a word (let's say "cheat", just for simplicity sake) that activates the cheat code. While we do get very good feedback, this tens to come from only the most vocal users, so we fear we might be missing the big picture. We would like to know if there is any off the shelf (or nearly so) solution to capture usage of different features and to report usage patterns and trends over time. Note: These tools are native apps, not web-based. I know about Google Analytics and the like. They're great, but I'm looking for native code solutions.

• How can I print-screen just one window and not my entire desktop?

  I could swear I've always been able to do alt-printscreen to get 'just that window' but right now I am getting my entire desktop. Any idea why this would be or what I can do to get my ability to do small window screen shots? I've tried a lot of combination with the ctrl, alt, shift and print-screen keys but no luck, nothing happens in response. One option: shift-ctrl print-screen lets me do a selection using a cross hair to size out the screen capture but I don't know where this gets saved. I'm not being given the choice and it's not in Desktop or Pictures. I use an external keyboard, but I've tried using the laptop's own keyboard and no difference. I am running Ubuntu 12.04 and the laptop is a Samsung Ultrabook 900 Update: I rebooted and it "fixed" it - for now. However this is not the first time I've seen this so I'm still curious as to why it happens, what I can do to fix w/o reboot and if other share the same problem.

Specifically, I have numerous buttons that will be changing color based on state information from operator input and input from various subcomponents and sensors. I would like to use UML or some other type of design diagrams to be able to capture the color transition. Some folks have suggested sequence diagrams, but I haven't been able to find any good examples that show how to incorporate this design artifact. • What should I do if my text exceeds my text render target boundaries?

  I have a method for drawing strings in 3D that does the following: Set a render target Draw each character as a quadrangle using a orthographic projection to the render target Unset the render target Draw the render target texture using a perspective projection and a world transform My problem is how to deal with strings whose characters length exceeds that of the render target dimensions? For example if I have string "This is a reallllllllllly long string" and the render target can't accommodate it, it will only capture "This is a realllll". The render target (and its size) could be set each frame but wouldn't that be far too costly?

  I’ve been gradually adding features to my utility that scripts the configuration of a SQL Server.  Since my last post I’ve added the following features: Skip any encrypted object in a database Script alerts, alert notifications and operators Script audits Always script model, master and msdb to capture any user-defined objects in those databases Logins are now scripted so that everything for a login is grouped together. There’s a second section in the logins that handles default databases.  In many cases a login’s default database is a mirror target and can’t be set.  This is now handled gracefully.  It also includes a separate section for all default databases so those can be quickly set in the event of a disaster. Script credentials Script proxy accounts Script database mail My goal is still to get everything outside a database scripted.  This release is enough that I can keep my mirror target servers in sync with their principals.

  Hi I updated a friends computer from 11.10 to 12.04 and the sound stopped working in the built-in speakers. The computer is a Sony Vaio PCG-2J1L. • Intuitive "Take Screenshot" key mapping used by games?

  I recently had a problem testing my game on Linux Ubuntu. The Print key is intercepted by the desktop environment and It never reaches the game. Rather than fighting this, I will simply use any other key or key combination to trigger the screen capture functionality. Now, using the PRINT key is very intuitive because people already expect this behavior. What other keys are a good idea to use to take screenshots? And if possible elaborate why, have other apps/games used that key?

I'm using ubuntu 11.10 - 64 bits with gcc 4.6.1 I've been searching online for an example C++ code that simply grabs video from a compliant UVC webcam and displays it simultaneously.. I need to compile it on gcc. In OpenCV, it's a very simple code less than 20 lines as I remember! I found this: http://v4l2spec.bytesex.org/spec/capture-example.html But it's very huge code relative to OpenCV code ?! and even when I tried to compile it using gcc.. I got many errors! I copied the code into a cpp file: cap.cpp then wrote in the terminal: gcc cap.cpp -o cap and the errors showed up... same errors with g++ I hope if someone can help me and tell me where can I find another simpler code? and how can I test it ?
