• Shared Excel WorkBook is locked by another user

  I’ve been trying everything; this is the last chance I have. I moved folders and files from an old Windows Server 2003 File Server to a new FS (Win Server 2008 R2) with DFS and ABE enabled. Now, a specific Shared Excel file is driving me crazy, out of a sudden, lots of times per day, users are getting the following error while opening that file: Filename.xlsx is locked for editing by ‘another user’. Open ‘Read-Only’ or, click ‘Notify’ to open.. I’ve already followed this, with no joy: http://blogs.technet.com/b/the_microsoft_excel_support_team_blog/archive/2012/05/14/the-definitive-locked-file-post.aspx In any case, I strongly think this is not client-related, since it never gave that problem in the past with Windows Server 2003. I’ve found and followed many other solutions, nothing. The users are all utilizing Office 2010 on Windows 7 machines, besides a few users who are still on Windows XP machines. • dual boot xp/xp, now win7/xp getting no xp

  I have a laptop on which I have two drives with separate XP installs, one barebones for music production, the other "normal" XP with Office etc. (Unfortunately the bios won't give a boot disk choice) Normally I would be presented with two WinXPs on booting. Selecting the second one would get me into the "normal installation on disk 1 (C).Selecting the first in boot order would give me D: (disk 2) withe barebones XP. However, I installed Windows 7 Home onto disk 1 (C:), but there were no dual boot options anymore, even though I installed DualBoot Pro and added WinXP disk D:. The options now show show up, but seletcing Win XP just turns into a reboot back to where I started. Any help would be much appreciated

• Cannot Connect to internet in windows 7 (No Internet Connection)

  I have an airport express and Win 7 pro. My router is a Trendnet TEW-423PI G. The problem is everytime i try to connect it says it is unsuccessful and can't find ip address. I have tried everything. WPA2, WPA, WEP, Messing with the registry, Manually Inputting the ip address, Reinstalling drivers. I have two Macs that connect perfectly and are both running Snow Leopard that is why I am able to post this. What Should I do. I'm Going Crazy

• BIOS flash XP, 1 long beep, 2 short beeps, over&over

  BIOS issue on HP dv9233cl laptop, wiped drive of Vista, loaded XP, not all the drives loaded. Went to the HP website, downloaded all drivers for this laptop. Started loading them. Loaded WIN Flash HP Network System BIOS Window SP42187. After a minute a low resolution screen appeared stating "It is now safe to turn off the computer" I waited a minute and half. Turned it off. Let it set 10 seconds try to start and No screen images at all and a nasty loud long beep 2 short beeps, 2 seconds of silence and it happens over & over again. I have unplugged/removed battery, still same problem, Any sugg.... Thx.. Paul

• core temperature vs CPU temperature

  I have recently installed a new heat sink & fan combination on my Core 2 Quad since my CPU was hitting about 70C under load. This has managed reduce temperatures while running Prime95 to about 54C, which I'm taking as a win (this is ~30 minutes after fitting). I'm a little confused though. The temperature readings given above are for CORE temperatures, but HWMonitor is showing a 5th "CPU" temperature (4 temperatures being the individual core temps) which is showing 21C idle, when idle temperatures for the cores vary between 37C and 42C. I guess there are two questions here: Are my CPU/Core temperatures decent, and is it safe to overclock when these are stock clock temperatures? I gather that the maximum safe operating temperature for a C2Q is ~70C, so which temperature should I measure against, the core temperatures (which are higher), or the CPU temperature reading?

• My laptop causes the wireless router to stop working

  hello all, it's happening something strange to my wireless connection. The wireless connection works fine with all the devices at home, except with my laptop (Toshiba satellite, WIN 7 64): as I start it, the wireless network shuts off and the connection disappears also for the other devices. I can use internet only plugging the laptop with an ethernet cable, and I have to shut off the wireless card, to allow the other people in the house to use the wireless connection. I tried to update the firmware (it is a D-Link DIR 615) but it's up to date, and reconfigure the router, but all indicates that the problem is caused by my laptop. I'm currently doing an antivirus scanning, but the computer seems to be clean. Any suggestion?

• Disable Windows Key Hotkeys when using Virtualbox

  I'm currently running a VirtualBox of Arch Linux with Windows 7 x64 as the host. In Arch, I use dwm for window management. As dwm is heavily dependent on hotkeys, I've used the ALT key as its META key to prevent conflict with the Windows 7 host. However, when using emacs (also heavy hotkey usage) within dwm, there are issues because it's also using ALT for its own META. I'd like to change either dwm or emacs to use the windows key as META, but commands such as Win+L will be captured by the host machine and lock my system. Is there any way to prevent these hotkeys from being triggered while within VirtualBox?

  I'm developing software for tablet pcs and so far I've used some lenovo's (x41), some toshiba's (portege m200) and some gateways (M275). Granted: the machines we've gotten have predominantly been refurbs, but they're failing 80-90% of the time. Part of the reason that they're failing is users inevitably dropping them, so I'm looking at potentially some rugged tablet pcs. The problem that I'm running into is that Current tablet pcs are high spec (much higher than I'm looking for at least) The rugged tablet manufacturer space seems to be filled with lots of small companies that I don't trust yet. I'm looking for tablet PCs (keyboard or no) that can support: XP tpc (optional win 7) single core 1.5-2ghz 1gb ram wifi optional gsm optional gps very optional vehicle docking solutions The budget I've got is tight (but slightly flexible - So are there any reputable tablet pc vendors out there that can do this.

  Hello I'm searching for answer how to put programs (not program) in context menu of desktop at one context name? Example: I want to create new context name which can be extendable to put inside more programs. That is like "New" or "View" that show as more options after using it. Here is what i tried (and is working when you want to put one program to desktop): I created in registry "New Folder" with name of some programs (i.e. "notepad") inside of this location HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Background\shell\ Inside of new created folder ("notepad") i put one more time "New Folder" and name it "command" (must be same name) Inside of "command" at string ("Default") put the location through notepad ("C:\Windows\system32\notepad.exe") - and now when you click right mouse button on desktop will see new context text with name "notepad" what will of course open notepad if you use them Well what i'm searching for is to find solution of how to make context name which will offer as to use more that one programs, do you have any solution?   This started a few days ago on a machine that has been running WIn 8.1 for over a month. I just finished a clean install of Windows 8.1 with a handful of apps like Dropbox and Office. • DFS share Access denied for some time after workstation is booted.

  I have 2 Win server 2008 servers acting as domain controllers and Dns servers doing DFS. All my workstations are windows xp sp3. I have a DFS share drive mapped at login via login script. After the pc is booted I get an access denied message when trying to access the mapped drive. If i go to the file share on one of the servers i can get to it fine. After about 10 minutes i can try to access the mapped drive again and it works fine. I am not sure if it is some delay happening in dfs name resolution or a gpo issue.

Caution iLO 2 03/07/2010 20:40 03/07/2010 20:40 1 Server reset. It's not an ASR reset (that would show in the log) Redundant power supplies, swapped but no change. Turned off all virtual machines (i.e. now only running hypervisor) but not OK Boot HP smartstart diagnostics disk, ALL OK Diagnostic disk reports no errors Went back to booting Hypervisor and the problem is back. Seems the hyper-V system disk has got a time based program (virus) causing the reset. I thought the hypervisor had a small attack surface and should be OK. All virtual machines (SBS2008, Win7 and Win XP) and network computers are protected with TrendMicro WFBS. I am about to rebuild the disk (I have backups) but wondered if there were any suggestions to try first???

• Windows 7 installation reboot loop

  Upgrading from Vista home premium to win 7 hoe premium from DVD ex Digital river on gigabyte VM900m; core 2 duo 2.13GHz 2GB ram; Western digital 250GB HD. Got as far as "Expanding Windows files ...100% the error message "Computer encountered unexpected error... To install windows press OK to restart computer and reinstall windows" The computer then reboots, loads Windows 7 (new logo) a essage that says "setup is starting services" then the error message comes back. I can get into BIOS to change boot priority but the computer just ignores this and goes through the same sequence. At the point of "to boot from CD/DVD press any key" my keyboard is deactivated and i cannot make a choice and the sae sequence occurs. I cannot break the sequence - I have push every key, disconnected every external device including HDMI screen, but nothing stops the loop. Any ideas? Auswoolf

• Reverse proxy with SSL and IP passthrough?

  Turns out that the IP of a much-needed new website is blocked from inside our organization's network for reasons that will take weeks to fix. In the meantime, could we set up a reverse proxy on an Internet-based server which will forward SSL traffic and perhaps client IPs to the external site? Load will be light. No need to terminate SSL on the proxy. We may be able to poison DNS so original URL can work. How do I learn if I need URL rewriting? Squid/apache/nginx/something else? Setup would be fastest on Win 2000, but other OSes are OK if that would help. Simple and quick are good since it's a temporary solution. Thanks for your thoughts!

• Windows 7 Default Gateway problem

  Hi, I have a strange problem (or at least seems strange to me) the below are IP configurations for two laptops on my home network which consists of a main router 192.168.11.1 and a connected wireless router (i know this can cause problems but has always worked until I got the win7 machine) at 192.168.11.2 with DHCP disabled. Laptop 1 - Win XP IP: Dynamically assigned by main router default gateway: 192.168.11.1 (main router) This machine gets perfect connectivity. Laptop 2 - Win7 IP: dynamically assigned by main router Default Gateway: 192.168.11.2 THIS IS THE PROBLEM... I cannot seem to get this machine to default to the main router for the gateway UNLESS I go to a static configuration which I would rather not do since I regularly go between my home and public networks. Why is my Win7 machine not finding the main gateway the same way that the other laptop is? I believe that the rest of my setup is fine as it has always worked and it works perfectly when set as static ip and gateway. Please help! Thanks

  I recently installed Windows Server 2012. This will serve as the dev-instance for our engineers and will be accessed in multiple time zones. I therefore plan to run this 24x7 but want to conserve energy by going to sleep mode when not in use & enable Wake-On-Magic-Packet. Based on the previous post it appears that there is no option to sleep Win Server 2012 with Hyper-V. Since I don't care much about virtualization now, I uninstalled Hyper-V. In addition to this, I have done the following 1) Ran powercfg -a. Don't find sleep. 2) Added [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\hvboot] "Start"=dword:00000003 to try gaining sleep - no luck! 3) Only see Shutdown and Restart in power options.   Hi, I am using Win 7 64 bit with Firefox as my web browser. Whenever I double click on the FF icon to open my firefox, there would be a chinese website, loading as a tab on my FF. I have checked on my setting for startup homepage for FF under the Tools > Options, it was set to Google as my default page. Can anyone please advise how can I remove the disturbing chinese website from loading on my ff everytime I open my firefox? Thank you very much.

• How should i setup my PC partition?

  I want to clear out my PC and setup the partitions. Right now i have it as XP, Win-7, Vista, XP/Test/Spare I notice my PC is pretty good at virtualization, at least virtualizing linux. I also rarely boot out of my primary XP although i do find myself deving on windows 7 once in a while. So i figure i can have it as XP, Windows 7, data partition then... what? i still have one more slot. There may be a more useful way to do this so what do you guys think? My bro has 2gb partition that is used to restore the OS which can be ran during the bootup process. However i dont think i can do that with mine. So, what are you thoughts?

• Virtualbox two networks slow

  I am running an Ubuntu server guest on Win 7 guest, and am running a webrick server (RoR dev). If I have just a host-only network, everything works fine and the browser response is instant. However, if I add a second network (NAT), so that the server can connect to the internet (for various updates etc.), the host-to-guest access gets really slow. I can't use the bridge connection. I am using the port 3000 (RoR Webrick server) and connecting to the guest via internet browser on this port (eg http://192.168.56.102:3000). Any idea, what could be causing this? If I ping the IP from host console, I get < 0ms. Here are the settings (relevant info is in english; Povoleno vše is Everything is allowed):

• Unable to connect to Adobe Connect

  I am having troubles trying to connect my colleges Adobe Connect. I have done the test meeting connection and it will say "Unable to connect". I have tried connecting on 3 other computers and it works with flying colors. I am running Norton 360 on my computer and I also tried it on my other laptop thats also running Norton 360 and it works on that laptop. I also checked my hosts file and that is not the problem because I am able to connect to the server (on port 80) but not the Adobe Connect port (port 1935). The only thing in it is "127.0.0.1 localhost" Here are the details from the log that the test created: Player Version: WIN 11,3,300,271 App-Server returned: code:ok, servers=rtmp://connect.bowvalleycollege.ca:1935/_rtmp://localhost:8506/,rtmpt://connect.bowvalleycollege.ca:443/_rtmp://localhost:8506/ ERROR: FMS Server did not return correctly! Here is my specifications: Windows 7 SP1 x64 Norton 360 v6.3 (latest) It won't connect in Firefox v15, Chrome v19, or IE9 All of my computers are connected through the same router (D-Link DIR-625) Any ideas?

• Why does RDP Licensing is licensing the same device multiple times? [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: Can you help me with my software licensing issue? I've got a Citrix XenApp 6.5 Farm running on Win 2008 R2 Servers. I purchased 300 Device RDP/Remote App Licenses for ~200 users. We went with Device licenses, because most of the end users use the same machines. After 1 month of operating, we started to run out of licenses. It turns out the licensing service is consuming multiple licenses for the same machine. I can revoke licenses, but there is a limit to how many I can do. Is this operating correctly? The only explanation I can come up with is that the Licensing service is giving a license to a device for every server it connects to in our Citrix farm.
