  I have a problem with seperating information in a string i get from the external GPS stream. Heres a example of a string: $GPGSV,3,3,12,22,09,276,31,25,24,247,24,27,54,131,,32,04,359,19*71 $GPGLL,5703.85365,N,00953.88360,E,075510.00,A,A*69 $GPPWR,028a,1,0,1,1 $GPRMC,075511.00,A,5703.85369,N,00953.88430,E,0.335,302.17,070912,,,A*6E $GPVTG,302.17,T,,M,0.335,N,0.621,K,A*3A Want i am trying to do is to get the " $GPGLL,5703.85365,N,00953.88360,E,075510.00,A,A*69 " out so i can grab the longtitude and latitude and then update my textview with it. But keep getting string out of bounch exeption and i start wondering if i am handling this in the wrong way. Anyone that can put me in the right direction in how to solve this?

• Communication between .net winform and webform

  Hi, I need to make a webform communicate with a winform and back to the webform. The reason for this is it exists a webform software already made, and now it's needed the behavior of a .net component only available for winforms. We've tried going with Process.Start and shell.execute but with this approach the software hangs or it takes too long to respond. The webform also needs to be called from client pcs in the network, I think this adds another problem due to the non possibility of calling the execution of a file from a webform remotelly, but I dont know much about this technical issue we've read some articles about embedding a winform in a webform, sending data from a winform to a webform, etc. and we would like to know what's the recommend approach (if there is any) for handdling a situation like this.

• Remote connect to mysql?

  Hi I don't use php or mysql but I am trying to upgrade a phpbb board I got but the one click installer forgot to install some stuff in the database so I can't upgrade to the newest version till I add the missing stuff. So I need to do a remote connect to mysql database but I am not sure how to do this or what software I need(free, and very easy to setup I don't want to spend much time on this). I don't really want to use phpmyadmin since I don't want to start setting up a virtual directory and whatever else it needs to be installed. Like I said I don't do php or mysql I just choose it since in my hosting package it was one click to install phpbb and I had a mysql database free. Thanks

• Non intrusive notification without audio?

  i have a C# app that registers a protocol. When you click BLAH://djfhgjfdghjkd in a browser it launches my app. However you can click multiple links and each link is a note added into the app. How can i inform the user that he did fully click the link? Right now i have a console app showing up for 1sec (basically pops up and goes away as fast as possible) which felt better then a hidden console since you are unsure if it went through. The 1 second takes a lot of time when you are trying to rapidly click many notes/links and the console gets in the way. What can i do that is noticeable? I'm thinking have a box that comes up (and is semi transparent) but the click passes through it. Maybe there is a better way? Also i wouldnt know where to start with transparent windows or pass through clicks

  I have a service that performs background updates. I want to give the user the the option to disable the updates when their battery percentage reaches a certain level. • .NET 3.5SP1 64-bit memory model vs. 32-bit memory model

  As I understand it, the .NET memory model on a 32-bit machine guarantees 32-bit word writes and reads to be atomic operations but does not provide this guarantee on 64-bit words. I have written a quick tool to demonstrate this effect on a Windows XP 32-bit OS and am getting results consistent with that memory model description. However, I have taken this same tool's executable and run it on a Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit OS and am getting wildly different results. Both the machines are identical specs just with different OSes installed. I would have expected that the .NET memory model would guarantee writes and reads to BOTH 32-bit and 64-bit words to be atomic on a 64-bit OS. I find results completely contrary to BOTH assumptions. 32-bit reads and writes are not demonstrated to be atomic on this OS. Can someone explain to me why this fails on a 64-bit OS?   I am developing a WPF application that will hook into a SQLLite database and I have a number of reservations around multiple users: When I install my application should I assume that each windows user account will mean only one user of my application or should I include a login for my app (drawback is that the user will have to log in all the time) If I am supporting multiple users how do I handle a new user account i.e. on application start of the new account should I set up a new user in the DB Are there any other gotchas around this area, it isn't something I have really had to worry about before. • Multiple selection in a TreeView

  I am using a Windows Forms TreeView control in my program. I would like to allow the user to select multiple nodes at the same level by dragging their mouse pointer around (also called a "lasso" selection). I don't think a standard TreeView allows that. My question is what would be the best way to achieve this? Do I have to write custom selection behaviour of my own in perhaps a custom or derived control? Where do I start? I don't need a detailed explanation. Just a small nudge in the right direction.

• Do you know any build systems with decent support for parallelization?

  Hi, I am looking for a build system (working on ms windows) that has good support for parallelization of tasks/targets (or whatever you call them). To be more specific - during build (that is initiated on MS Windows machine) I need to copy source files to a number of different machines (which are not necessarily running Windows) and start a remote job on each of them - and I really like to do that on all machines at once. Does anyone know a build system that's capable of executing such a task in parallel. From what I googled, the options currently available are: -j switch in make - but i don't know if nmake supports this -some custom nAnt tasks -msbuild has some form of support for parallelization - seems similiar to make (meaning you don't specify what to do in parallel, just specify that it would be nice to build things that way) -fake (f# make) is written in functional programming language which are known to have good parallelization support - but I'm not very skillful in functional programming area. Any other solutions I could explore?

  Hey guys I am currently making a website and I am hopefully going to start a premium service for it. What I am currently looking into right now is how to make an "auto updating" shop which removes 1 day from how many days left the user has left on their premium status. so for example if the users purchases 30 days of premium, each day that 30 with negate 1 so.. 30, 29, 28, 27.. etc and then if the days gets to 0 in will remove premium status. The only way I can think of keeping track of this right now is by manually monitoring each persons premium status but that wouldnt be very practical. What would the best way for me to do this?   Hi, I'm pretty new in developing programs in Java. I'm currently writing a program that converts a flv video into mp3. I have already written such a program in Visual Studio.net C#, but the Problem is, that it isn't cross platform compatible... I used the ffmpeg binary to convert the video into mp3, but I can't find ffmpeg binaries for Mac and Linux. (if so, I could start the specific binaries from java, depending on the OS) So I tried to convert the video with Xuggle, but the final mp3 has 0 bytes.   Background : I have some Application Data. i.e. the Database, come important config files. This data is vital for the application to start else it is exited. Problem : Where should I store this data. i.e in which folder and where. Right Now (This is wrong) it is stored in a folder in Debug/App_Data. But is causing issues in git and when we publish the App the data is not found. So where can we store this folder ? Present Structure is "WpfApplication2\WpfApplication2\bin\Debug" These Files need to be present when the app is started. So they need to be a part of the app itself.

  This is probably an easy question... I have 4 source versions of the same software in 4 different directories. I have just started using git for version control. To date, I have just been snapping a desperate copy rolling forward. I want to merge all versions (1.0.0.1, 1.0.0.2, 1.0.0.3, 1.0.1.0) together so that I will have a reference history. • Using Java, can I have one JVM spawn another, and then have the original one exit?

  I have a need to have a running JVM start another JVM and then exit. I'm currently trying to do this via Runtime.getRuntime().exec(). The other JVM starts, but my original JVM won't exit until the "child" JVM process stops. It appears that using Runtime.getRuntime().exec() creates a parent-child relationship between the processes. Is there some way to de-couple the spawned process so that the parent can die, or some other mechanism to spawn a process without any relationship to the creating process? Note that this seems exactly like this question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2566502/using-java-to-spawn-a-process-and-keep-it-running-after-parent-quits but the accepted answer there doesn't actually work, at least not on my system (Windows 7, Java 5 and 6). It seems that maybe this is a platform-dependent behavior. I'm looking for a platform independent way to reliably invoke the other process and let my original process die.

  Hi, I live in the linux terminal all the time under my slackware GNU/linux system (an EeePC). By default, GNU Emacs won't start if It can't find several Xorg libraries. Assuming I will never use X software at all, would it make sense for me to drop all this Xorg stuff and compile emacs again ? Are you aware of anything that could get me into troubles or making GNU Emacs not working at all ? Are there any advantage for me to keep all these dependencies ? I am asking since as said, my main box is an eeepc with little storage and I am dangerously hitting the limits ;-) Regards

• Game Objects Talking To Each Other

  What is a good way of dealing with objects and having them talk to each other? Up until now all my games hobby/student have been small so this problem was generally solved in a rather ugly way, which lead to tight integration and circular dependencies. Which was fine for the size of projects I was doing. However my projects have been getting bigger in size and complexity and now I want to start re-using code, and making my head a simpler place. The main problem I have is generally along the lines of Player needs to know about the Map and so does the Enemy, this has usually descended into setting lots of pointers and having lots of dependencies, and this becomes a mess quickly. I have thought along the lines of a message style system. but I cant really see how this reduces the dependencies, as I would still be sending the pointers everywhere. Thanks.
