    I have the need to do the following in Rails to mirror a desktop application: a User and an Office 'owns' a record, if you don't own the record on a user or office level you're kicked into the public realm. user gets read,write,delete to the model record office gets read/write/delete to the model record other or public gets read/write/delete to the model record e.g. UserA owns a model record with read/write/delete OfficeA owns a model with read/write other/public gets read I was wondering if a plugin/gem existed to grant this functionality?

  • TCP 30 small packets per second polutes connection with server

    I'm testing connection with flash client and cloud server(boost::asio for software) over TCP connection. My connection with server already is really poor - 120 ms ping in average. I found when i start to send packets with 2 bytes size (without tcp header) with speed 30 packets/s ping grow to 170-200 average. I think that it's really bad and my bad connection and bad cloud provider is reason for this high ping without any load. What do you think? (I tested my software and can compute about 50k packets/s so software is not a problem).

Reason why I ask is because I would like to expand my knowledge in Java and I'm into doing stuff like file compressor, bulk file renamer, etc. Are there any examples out there that I can look at or play with? I am at the point where once the connection opens the batch file doesn't proceed. Batch file @echo off set /p serial=What are the last 8 of the STB's serial? udp.exe -c 127.0.0.1 23 %serial% x.x.x.x 11111 127.0.0.1 23 | telnet 127.0.0.1 Output What are the last 8 of the STB's serial? XXXXXXX Ready for XXXXXXX It just sits at the 'ready ...' line and never opens the telnet connection. I have tried various | and & but no luck.

We had done this earlier using a separate project to the solution which had the solution level tasks, but we want to move away from that.   • Java loop to collect the second and third elements every three in an array

    I have a file with data in the form timestamp, coordinate, coordinate, seperated by spaces, as here; 14:25:01.215 370.0 333.0 I need to loop through and add the coordinates only to an array. The data from the file is read in and put into as String[] called info, from split(" "). I have two problems, I think the end of the file has a extra " " which I need to lose appropriately and I also want confirmation/suggestions of my loop, at the moment I am getting sporadic out of bounds exceptions. My loop is as follows; String[] info; info = dataHolder.split(" "); ArrayList<String> coOrds1 = new ArrayList<String>(); for (int counter = 0; counter < info.length; counter = counter+3) { coOrds1.add(info[counter+1]); coOrds1.add(info[counter+2]); } Help and suggestions appreciated. The text file is here but the class receives in a UDP packet from another class so I am unsure if this potentially adds " " at the end or not.

  • Activate first workbook after closing second one?

    Open workbook A. Code in A opens workbook B. B is now the active WB. Code in B ends with ThisWorkBook.Close B closes, so A appears. Problem is, I can't get ANY Activate events in WB A to fire automatically after WB B closes. But if I close WB B manually, using mouse to 'x' out the WB, or via the menus, then WB A triggers Activate events. Somehow using VBA to close WB B prevents WB A Activate events from triggering. Same results in Excel 97 and 2003 Am I missing something, or is there a workaround?? Thanks! John

  • Second user-defined function returns garbage value?

    I have been teaching myself C programming, and I've come to a difficult point with using variables across functions. When, I compile this program and run it, the function askBirthYear returns the correct value, but sayAgeInYears returns either 0 or a garbage value. I believe it has something to do with how I used the variable birthYear, but I'm stumped on how to fix the issue.   • What are these CPU cache settings? Snoop Filter, ACL prefetch, HW prefetch

    I was in my BIOS setup turning on VT-x support today and saw these other settings. A little googling indicates that they each seem to turn on some sort of optimization to do with the CPU's L2 cache. They were all turned off by default. The processor in question is an Intel Xeon quad-core 3.4GHz (X5492). My OS is Linux 2.6.35.10-74.fc14.x86_64 #1 SMP Thu Dec 23 16:04:50 UTC 2010 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux. I have 4GB of RAM if that matters. Here's what the BIOS manufacturer has to say: Snoop Filter Enabling the snoop filter typically improves performance by reducing snoop traffic on the frontside bus in dual processor configurations. Well I like the sound of improved performance. Why would the BIOS have this off by default? Or by dual processor do they not mean multi-core? Regardless, is there a downside if this is on? ACL Prefetch When enabled, the Adjacent Cache Line Prefetcher fetches both cache lines that comprise a cache line pair when it determines required data is not currently in its cache. When disabled, the processor will only fetch the cache line required by the processor. HW Prefetch Fetches an extra line of data into L2 from external memory. Both of these sound like optimizations that have some drawbacks. What are the reasons to turn them on? What are the reasons to leave them off. Why is the default off?

    I'm attempting to create Data Access Layer for my web application. Currently, all datatables are stored in the session. When I am finished the DAL will populate and return datatables. Is it a good idea to store the returned datatables in the session? A distributed/shared cache? Or just ping the database each time? Note: generally the number of rows in the datatable will be small < 2000. Thanks

    Please explain how does the drawing cache work in Android. I'm implementing a custom View subclass. I want my drawing to be cached by the system. In the View constructor, I call setDrawingCacheEnabled(true); Then in the draw(Canvas c), I do: Bitmap cac = getDrawingCache(); if(cac != null) { c.drawBitmap(cac, 0, 0, new Paint()); return; } Yet the getDrawingCache() returns null to me. My draw() is not called neither from setDrawingCacheEnabled(), nor from getDrawingCache(). Please, what am I doing wrong?
