  • How to add an "Export to ebook" feature to a site?

    How could i add to a blog or site in general a feature that let users export the content to epub format or some other open ebook formats? It's not a feature that i normally see on most of the site i browse every day (some has export to pdf that is not great as ebook format), do you think it is feasible? I own an ebook reader and reading saved html to pdf pages is not so good. I'm searching for a general solution here so i have not specified any specific technology; if you have some sites that offer this feature i would like to try them. thanks

  • Need strategy to phone home to a Pyton web app and check licensing information for a commercial Wind

    What's a good strategy for building licensing checking into a Windows desktop app using a Python web application? This is a very open ended question because I don't have the slightest clue how to start to build this feature. What I do have is a number of general concerns: I have developed a commercial Windows desktop application and I want to make money from it but I don't want to build the licensing into the app since it's inevitable that someone will create a keygen or a crack, circulate it online and then it's 'game over' for me. So my idea was to create a web application where people could purchase a license key that is generated by the web app and every time the desktop application is started up, it will 'phone home' to the web app to check whether the license is valid and whether it seems to be in use at multiple locations. I'm just not sure how to do this. Would appreciate any general technical strategies and/or pointers to libraries/modules that might be of use.

    So I'm brand new to Netflix's API and have never used an API ever before. I'm ok with Objective-C and Cocoa Touch but just have no clue where to start when accessing the API and how to in general. Can someone help me get started with some code that will access titles in Netflix or just how to access a REST API in general with authentication. Thanks. Update: I've looked at the documents and I'm still a little lost because the Netflix API is a little weird with OAuth. Any help?

Bu when I look for the specific name or any key word that present in contact list it shows message : No results matching your search were found. Check your spelling. Are the words in your query spelled correctly? Try using synonyms. Maybe what you're looking for uses slightly different words. Make your search more general. Try more general terms in place of specific ones. Try your search in a different scope. Different scopes can have different results.   • Why do we need different CPU architecture for server & mini/mainframe & mixed-core?

    Hello, I was just wondering what other CPU architectures are available other than INTEL & AMD. So, found List of CPU architectures on Wikipedia. It categorizes notable CPU architectures into following categories. Embedded CPU architectures Microcomputer CPU architectures Workstation/Server CPU architectures Mini/Mainframe CPU architectures Mixed core CPU architectures I was analyzing the purposes and have few doubts. I taking Microcomputer CPU (PC) architecture as reference and comparing others. Embedded CPU architecture: They are a completely new world. Embedded systems are small & do very specific task mostly real time & low power consuming so we do not need so many & such wide registers available in a microcomputer CPU (typical PC). In other words we do need a new small & tiny architecture. Hence new architecture & new instruction RISC. The above point also clarifies why do we need a separate operating system (RTOS). Workstation/Server CPU architectures I don't know what is a workstation. Someone clarify regarding the workstation. As of the server. It is dedicated to run a specific software (server software like httpd, mysql etc.). Even if other processes run we need to give server process priority therefore there is a need for new scheduling scheme and thus we need operating system different than general purpose one. If you have any more points for the need of server OS please mention. But I don't get why do we need a new CPU Architecture. Why cant Microcomputer CPU architecture do the job. Can someone please clarify? Mini/Mainframe CPU architectures Again I don't know what are these & what miniframes or mainframes used for? I just know they are very big and occupy complete floor. But I never read about some real world problems they are trying to solve. If any one working on one of these. Share your knowledge. Can some one clarify its purpose & why is it that microcomputer CPU archicture not suitable for it? Is there a new kind of operating system for this too? Why? Mixed core CPU architectures Never heard of these.     Hi, In my visual studio project (C++), when i copy a method(meth1) of a particular scope say 'scope1' and paste it in the same code area, it is getting pasted in General Scope. i.e I want to add a method into a particular scope but when i try it is getting added in general scope. How can i solve this? For eg: There is an existing method: void add(int a, int b) { .... } This method is in File scope. i.e limited for that file. Now i want to add another method add2 in the same file scope. So I copied the existing add method and pasted it. void add2(int a, int b) { .... } But this method is getting added in the global scope and not in the file scope.

  • Practical non-Turing-complete languages?

    Nearly all programming languages used are Turing Complete, and while this affords the language to represent any computable algorithm, it also comes with its own set of problems. Seeing as all the algorithms I write are intended to halt, I would like to be able to represent them in a language that guarantees they will halt. Regular expressions used for matching strings and finite state machines are used when lexing, but I'm wondering if there's a more general, broadly language that's not Turing complete? edit: I should clarify, by 'general purpose' I don't necessarily want to be able to write all halting algorithms in the language (I don't think that such a language would exist) but I suspect that there are common threads in halting proofs that can be generalized to produce a language in which all algorithms are guaranteed to halt. There's also another way to tackle this problem - eliminate the need for theoretically infinite memory. Once you limit the amount of memory the machine is allowed, the number of states the machine is in is finite and countable, and therefore you can determine if the algorithm will halt (by not allowing the machine to move into a state it's been in before).

    I've got a business app in C#, with unit tests. Can I increase the reliability and cut down on my testing time and expense by using NModel or Spec Explorer? Alternately, if I were to rewrite it in F# (or even Haskell), what kinds (if any) of reliability increase might I see? Code Contracts? ASML? I realize this is subjective, and possibly argumentative, so please back up your answers with data, if possible. :) Or maybe an worked example, such as Eric Evans Cargo Shipping System? If we consider Unit tests to be pecific and strong theorems, checked quasi-statically on particular “interesting instances” and Types to be general but weak theorems (usually checked statically), and contracts to be general and strong theorems, checked dynamically for particular instances that occur during regular program operation (from B. Pierce's Types Considered Harmful, where do these other tools fit? We could pose the analogous question for Java, using Java PathFinder, Scala, etc.

  • Is it good practice to call module functions directly in VB.NET?

    I have a Util module in my VB.NET program that has project-wide methods such as logging and property parsing. The general practice where I work seems to be to call these methods directly without prefixing them with Util. When I was new to VB, it took me a while to figure out where these methods/functions were coming from. As I use my own Util methods now, I can't help thinking that it's a lot clearer and more understandable to add Util. before each method call (you know immediately that it's user-defined but not within the current class, and where to find it), and is hardly even longer. What's the general practice when calling procedures/functions of VB modules? Should we prefix them with the module name or not?

    Note: I've asked this question in a similiar format on superuser but it seems like it may fit here on SO better. It definitely also is about programming as it concerns parts of the Win32 API, Windows in general and process management. So there are these processes that can't be terminated with taskkill - system processes in general. But there also is, for example my Anti Virus program that makes itself "unterminateable". How can I access and mainly terminate system processes under windows? (kill.exe by Microsoft doesn't work) How do processes like anti-virus programs protect themselves? How can you turn them off again, then?

    I'm using a GZIPInputStream in my program, and I know that the performance would be helped if I could get Java running my program in parallel. In general, is there a command-line option for the standard VM to run on many cores? It's running on just one as it is. Thanks! Edit I'm running plain ol' Java SE 6 update 17 on Windows XP. Also, Publish() converts cold to hot and Defer() converts hot to cold. But still, I feel I am missing the details. Here are some questions I'd like to have answered: Can you give a comprehensive definition for these terms? Does it ever make sense to call Publish on hot observable or Defer on cold? Is there differences between hot and cold definitions for IObservable and IEnumerable? What are the general principles you should take into account when programming for cold or hot? Generally... what is the best way for finding multiple maxes/peaks? The nice thing about imextended max is it allows a threshold where presumably everything under that threshold is not counted whereas imregionalmax and findpeaks are more general, less effective.
