• Do glue records in non-circular dns-lookups speed up domain resolution or not?

  Doing a lookup for my domain on http://www.intodns.com/ I noticed theese two messages: In Parent section: DNS Parent sent Glue The parent nameserver g.gtld-servers.net is not sending out GLUE for every nameservers listed, meaning he is sending out your nameservers host names without sending the A records of those nameservers. It's ok but you have to know that this will require an extra A lookup that can delay a little the connections to your site. This happens a lot if you have nameservers on different TLD (domain.com for example with nameserver ns.domain.org.) and in NS section: Glue for NS records INFO: GLUE was not sent when I asked your nameservers for your NS records.This is ok but you should know that in this case an extra A record lookup is required in order to get the IPs of your NS records. The nameservers without glue are: 109.230.225.96 84.201.40.52 You can fix this for example by adding A records to your nameservers for the zones listed above. I do perfectly understand that the primary objective of glue records is to resolve circular dependencies. The classic use case: my domain is example.com and I want to have the nameserver ns1.example.com. This will never work because i cannot know the ip of ns1.example.com if I don't fetch example.com and in order to do that I need to fetch it from ns1.example.com. To resolve this deadlock I add a glue record to ns1.example.com containing the ip adress of the nameserver, so this can work out. So this problem does not occour if the nameservers are in a different TLD than the domain i want to look up. But however to fetch the zone information from the nameservers I need to know their ip adress right? And in order to know that i need to fetch the zone the nameservers are in from their respective nameservers, right? (or rather my ISP needs to do that in the background) So an extra lookup that takes time? If I now have glue records, I know the IP adress right away without the need to look it up - so this should speed up the resolution of my domain, shouldnt it? However my DNS zone provider (tecserver.at) replied that this would make no sense because "we are not running ns1.ourdomain.com an ns1.ourdomain.com as authorative NS for ourdomain.com. This would be the only sense for glue records. Tecserver has a glue record because the NS for tecserver.at are ns1.tecserver.at and ns2.tecserver.at. Therefore a glue record is needed for resolution.

  Background: To reload app configuration I need to kill -HUP the parent processes' PIDs. • How to deploy a visual studio custom tool?

  Hello. I have a my own custom tool for Visual Studio 2008 SP1. It consists of 5 assemblies: 3 assemblies with code that used heavily in my other projects, 1 assembly-wrapper above VS2008 SDK and assembly with the tool. If I'd debug my tool from visual studio, using "Run external program" option with command line "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\IDE\devenv.exe" and arguments "/ranu /rootsuffix Exp" all work perfectly. After that I trying to deploy it to my working VS copy, not to experimental hive doing: gacutil /i Asm1.dll for all my assemblies and doing RegAsm Asm1.dll only for assembly with custom tool. Neither of utils prints any error, all work as planned, even registry keys appeared. But my tool don't work even after PC restart. What did I do wrong? • Mouseover triggered on absolute positioned div

  Objective Have a small magnifying glass icon that appears in the top right corner of a table cell when the table cell is hovered over. Mousing over the magnifying glass icon and clicking it will open a dialog window to show detailed information about the item in that particular table cell. I want to reuse the same icon for hundreds of table cells without recreating it each time. Partial Solution Have a single <span> that is absolutely positioned and hidden. When a _previewable table cell is hovered, the <span> is moved to the correct location and shown. This <span> is also moved in the DOM to be a child of the _previewable table cell. This enables a click handler attached to the <span> to find the _previewable parent, and get information from it's jquery data() object that is used to populate the contents of the dialog. At this point, I've only tested this in Chrome. Questions Why would mouseout be called on _previewable, when the mouse is still within the boundaries of _previewable? Is it because the <span> is absolutely positioned? How can I make this work, without recreating the <span> and it's click handler on each AJAX table referesh?

  Recently at a job interview I was given the following problem: Write a script capable of running on the command line as python It should take in two words on the command line (or optionally if you'd prefer it can query the user to supply the two words via the console). Given those two words: a. Ensure they are of equal length b. Ensure they are both words present in the dictionary of valid words in the English language that you downloaded. If so compute whether you can reach the second word from the first by a series of steps as follows a. You can change one letter at a time b. Each time you change a letter the resulting word must also exist in the dictionary c. You cannot add or remove letters If the two words are reachable, the script should print out the path which leads as a single, shortest path from one word to the other. You can /usr/share/dict/words for your dictionary of words. My solution consisted of using breadth first search to find a shortest path between two words. But apparently that wasn't good enough to get the job :( Would you guys know what I could have done wrong?   I am setting up a print server for our company that has a parent domain and 2 child domains. The print server is on the parent domain and I have no problems getting the print server to deploy printers through group policy to users on its own domain. The problem I am having is that it isn't deploying the printers to users that are in it's child domains. Some other info that may help: I am not sharing or listing printers in the directory I have added pushprinterconnections.exe to the group policy login script Does anything come to mind?

  Hello, im using JPA2 with Hibernate 3.6.x I have made a simple testing on the @Version. Let's say we have 2 entities, Entity Team has a List of Player Entities, bidirectional relationship, lazy fetchtype, cascade-type All Both entities have @Version And here are the scenarios : Whenever a modification is made to one of the team/player entity, the team/player's version will be increased when flushed/commited (version on the modified record is increased). Adding a new player entity to team's collection using persist, the entity the team's version will be assigned after persist (adding a new entity, that new entity will got it's version). Whenever an addition/modification/removal is made to one of the player entity, the team's version will be increased when flushed/commited. (add/modify/remove child record, parent's version got increased also) I can understand the number 1 and 2, but the number 3, i dont understand, why the team's version got increased ? And that makes me think of other questions : What if i got Parent <- child <- granchildren relation ship. Will an addition or modification on the grandchildren increase the version of child and parent ? In scenario number 2, how can i get the version on the team before it's commited, like perhaps by using flush ? Is it a recommended way to get the parent's version after we do something to the child[s] ? Here's a code sample from my experiment, proving that when ReceivingGoodDetail is the owning side, and the version got increased in the ReceivingGood after flushing.   I am trying to run a VPS, a Debian box contained in an OpenVZ container. Obviously, I cannot use time --set or any such command, as the time must be set via the parent node. The owner of the parent node, however refuses to adjust the time (which is 30 minutes slower than the actual time). All the programs on my system, consequently, now recognized the false time and this throws a wrench in my syncing. Is there a way to possibly change the system time without interference from the container's administrator? Or perhaps, failing that, a way to make the programs "see" the time 30 minutes faster than what is reported by the container?

  i have several subdomains(git.example.org, build.example.org, etc.), i have a router with an external ip and i have several virtual machines on a host computer with internal ips. Now i want to route git.example.org to internal ip 10.0.2.1 and build.example.org to internal ip 10.0.2.2. How can I do this? I setup in the Router that all traffic on port 80 is comming to my host computer with internal ip 10.0.2.3 and installed Squid on that computer. • Restricting permissions to individual documents on SharePoint

  Here's what I'm trying to do: I would like to create a list of documents on a site in my company's SharePoint site. Each document should have specific user's permissions to view and edit it. For example: The list is for performance reports. John has his out there called "John_PR_09.docx". Only him and his supervisor should have permissions to view, edit, or do anything to it. And then another employee has hers out there with permissions for only her and her supervisor, and so on... I have tested this out with a document that I removed the groups and users from (since they inherit permissions from it's parent) and only gave my user account permissions to. I then asked someone else to try and open and she could, she even wrote "TEST" on the document and saved it. What am I doing wrong? I thought I stopped it from inheriting permissions from it's parent and only gave myself rights to edit it.

  Some hosting companies offer unlimited subdomains. There are two kind of subdomains: physical subdomains and virtual subdomains. A physical subdomains has its own site directory rather than being nested inside the site directory of its parent domain. A virtual subdomain site directory, on the other hand, is nested inside the site directory of its parent domain. I wonder how can the shared hosting company provide unlimited (theoritically) physical subdomains? In my understanding, each physical subdomain represents a new site (rather than a new application or virtual directory) in IIS. Please correct me if my mental model is wrong.

• How to rename multiple files in multiple folders with 1 command

  We want to rename our *.html files to *.php but (sadly enough) have not enough knowledge to do it with a dos batchfile and/or cmd prompt command. The problem is that each file is in seperat folder and yes talking about 1500+ different folder names. Using wildcards for the files I know is the '*' but using also a wildcard for folders is unknown to me. We probably need to use the (MSDOS) 'FOR' command but there I am stucked. Folder structure we use is: parent-folder/child-folder/grandchild-folder/file.html sample: games/A/game_name/file.html, games/B/game_name/file.html, games/C/game_name/file.html and so on. The parent folder is for all files the same, the child & grandchild folders are different for most files. After renaming these files to .php I assume following in the .htaccess will make a permanent redirect. RedirectMatch 301 (.).html$ http://oursite.com$1.php Looking forward to suggestions/answers, thnx in advance.

• How to reliably map vSphere disks <-> Linux devices

  Task at hand After a virtual disk has been added to a Linux VM on vSphere 5, we need to identify the disks in order to automate the LVM storage provision. The virtual disks may reside on different datastores (e.g. sas or flash) and although they may be of the same size, their speed may vary. So I need a method to map the vSphere disks to Linux devices. Only the first hex digit is different (5 vs. 6) and it is only present to the third hyphen. So this looks promising... Alternative idea Select disks by controller. But is it reliable that the ascending SCSI Id also matches the next vSphere virtual disk? What happens if I add another DVD-ROM drive / USB Thumb drive? This will probably introduce new SCSI devices in between. Thats the cause why I think I will discard this idea. Questions Does someone know an easier method to map vSphere disks and Linux devices? Can someone explain the differences in the uuid strings? (I think this has something to do with SAS adressing initiator and target... WWN like...) May I reliably map devices by using those uuid strings? How about SCSI virtual disks? There is no uuid visible then... This task seems to be so obvious. Why doesn't Vmware think about this and simply add a way to query the disk mapping via Vmware Tools?

• Is it possible to have a cell in table1 "point to" a cell in table2?

  I have a hierarchical structure in a database driven software application. Each row in parentTable 'owns' a number of rows in childTable. If the childTable does not have a value set in columnA then it should return the value specified in the appropriate row of parentTable columnB. Is it possible to implement a pointer or cell reference somehow so that I do not have to copy values from parent to child. (A change in parent could result in a large number of changes in child). If this is not possible, could anyone suggest a different approach?
