• How to install ubuntu 12.04

  I've had ubuntu on my pc for about 5 years,after the new 12.04 version and a day and a half trying to get it to just boot up. I will take it off my pc and rely on windows. I have 5 pc's which I built and am not an amateur, After installing it numerous times and even to run it from your webpage (to no avail). Granted I do have nvidia drivers on it, but after I went to their webpage and downloaded and installed the linux driver it,it still would not boot, by the way I took 2 different pc's apart and used what I thought were compatible (I shouldn't have to do this) parts. I have it on a seperate hd which I will remove and format. Have a nice day and so long (2 much trouble).

• Is there a PROPRIETARY driver (NVIDIA or ATI) that actually works with 12.10?

  NOTE: I see many similar topics on this, but I've tried all their suggestions, and nothing has worked. THE MAIN DIFFERENCE SEEMS TO BE: I always get a black screen with a blinking cursor, while others seem to get through the boot-up and see distorted graphics or just their wallpaper. ISSUE: I do a clean install of Ubuntu 12.10. Boots fine with the “nouveau” graphics driver – graphics (even just menus) are very slow, choppy, and distorted. The three other driver options in Ubuntu (official NVIDIA drivers), all result in a variation of the black screen on boot up. There will be NO access to a command line/GUI in anyway what-so-ever (tried every option recommended out there, but the system is unusable at this stage). I can only reinstall, and try different drivers…and I only ever get one shot at it. QUESTIONS: -Does anyone know of a PROPRIETARY driver that will actually work on 12.10 with a NVIDIA or ATI card? -Should I just buy a newer graphics card to put in as a replacement? MORE INFO: This is my second computer, and I’m just trying to get a working install of Ubuntu on it. I don’t want to put much money into it, as I have seen Ubuntu run great on much older/less capable machines. I’ve got a decent'ish Core2Duo Intel processor (2.13Ghz), 2GB of RAM, 320GB hard drive, 32-bit architecture, and there is no other O/S installed. It appears as if the graphics card (NVIDIA Geforce 7350 LE) is holding me back. TRIED SO FAR: -all drivers available in Ubuntu *all fail -manual install of some different NVIDIA drivers *all fail -also tried installing the generic kernel, Nvidia driver doesn't work in 12.10 *no difference -tried installing 12.04 *same results -every method suggested to at least get a command line after switching to a NVIDIA driver *all fail -UPDATE- Re-tried everything above with a new NVIDIA Geforce 210...same results for everything. -UPDATE #2- Re-tried everything above with a new AMD Radeon HD 6450...installed the proprietary driver from Ubuntu's "Software Sources" menu...EVERYTHING NOW WORKS.   Yes, you read correctly, how does humble ole Peter here make an engine using the 2 languages he's proficient in to an extent. I have more than enough time and wish not to use any 3rd party "stuffs" (engine parts like methods, classes etc etc, fully from scratch).   What should drive the decision behind doing development upon one or more than one framework? For instance, an ERP is (mostly) run on a Windows station. It leverages full access to device's resources, like printers, barcode readers, fingerprint readers and the like. It's usually more responsive and easier do develop with. That being said, some parts of it must be accessed exclusively in self-service mode, by enterprise's customers, suppliers and partners. This could be accomplished with smartphones, tablets, or even desktops running a web browser. What are the economics behind that? Should two team be kept, each one doing work upon its own framework? Or the most permissive framework should be chosen? Should I care something other than HTML technologies? Should I consider native technology for each device?

I need to build an efficient way of finding all the lines in each list that has the same 'control' number (or key for dB guys) and comparing what is in their string parts. I am writing this in Java. • Plugged in, not charging Windows 7 solution

  I recently had the popular problem of Windows 7 battery manager malfunctioning and not charging my battery when plugged in.  The battery was fine, the power supply was fine, and the motherboard was fine (I have enough laptops with the same specs in the Headspring office, and I was able to swap out parts to isolate the problem). • Theme is broken in some places

  I am using a computer that started out on 11.10. I have since updated it several times, and installed and used a great number of WMs (Unity, XFCE, Gnome, KDE, Cinnamon). I am not sure how, but somewhere along the way (probably when I upgraded to Ubuntu 13.04), some parts of my desktop theme were broken. I have tried switching themes and installing new themes, but that does not work. Neither did a removal of (and log out/login cycle) the ~/.config/dconf folder work. Specifically: on several menus, the central part of a button icon is a "grey square" that doesn't fit in with the theme (picture below). the window and desktop right click menus looks ugly. The same kind of grey field covers the items, and the square checkbox looks weird (just filled with a uniform blue). The separator is a thick line that looks out of place. It seems to be a similar problem to that of window buttons (picture below).

  A while back I created a licensing system for my companies new product, as well as all products after this one. As with a lot of licensing systems mine generates codes: 25 character product and registration codes, as well as 16 character module unlocking codes. My question is, since some parts of these generated codes are random should I apply a language filter to it to avoid any embarrassing language being given to the end users? I chose to as it was not difficult at all. But has anyone else ever came across something like this? Any viewpoints as to if it is worth the effort?

• How can I efficiently create/store/implement animations as I add to my game?

  My game's characters are made up of different parts (head/body/legs/etc), and whatever items they have equipped. As I'm creating the animation system for my game, I want to try to anticipate a large number of combinations for different pieces for each character. Originally, I had planned on having a frame-by frame animation for each piece for each animation, and then layer them to combine them into a character, but this seems like it would be a lot of work for my artist, and that the memory/disk size would start to add up as well since we would need a sprite for every frame, of every customization of every piece, in every animation, for every character. What efficient ways are there to create/implement these animations as we add more and more configurations to our game?

• Is there a way to forward emails associated with a domain without a mail server?

  A client owns example1.com but wants to also purchase example2.com and have it point to their original site at example1.com. No problem there. But they also want any emails going to example2.com to be forwarded to their counter parts at example1.com Eg: if someone emails [email protected] it will be forwarded to [email protected] They only way I can think of doing this at the moment is to set up host for example2.com and then set up mail forwarders in cpanel. But this seems a bit excessive and costly. Does anyone know another, cheaper way of doing this?

What is the purpose of the .colleft div? Why can't the 2 columns be directly under the .colmask container? Why does the .colleft div have a right 75%? I don't understand its purpose/benefit. Why don't the widths of .col1 and .col2 add up to 100%? How was left:102% calculated for .col1 and left:6% for .col2? The comments for this are not very clear to me. How is it any different from not even specifiying a left/right css property?

• OpenGL : Keeping alpha in a render buffer

  In my current task, i need to render a texture into a render buffer, in order to work on it (apply special filters) there. The result is then considered a "new texture", which is later displayed. This works fine, except when the texture contains some transparent/semi-transparent parts. My current guess it that, within the render buffer, the texture is "merged" with a kind of "grey background". In this case, it obviously impacts the R,G,B color components of transparent pixels. I've yet to find a way around this. Even manually assigning alpha after the rendering process doesn't save the day for semi-transparent pixels, which RGB are "tainted" by the grey background.

• What kind of performance issues does multiple instances of the exact same object have on a game?

  I'm fairly new to programming, and I've pretty much learned all the things I know on the go, while working on projects. The problem is that there some things that I just don't know where to begin searching. My question is about performance, and how can multiple instances of the same object affect it -- Specifically, I'm talking about XNA's "GraphicsDevice" class. I have it instanced on four different parts of my game, and in three of those, the object has the exact same values for all the attributes. So, in that case, should I be using the same instance of GraphicsDevice, passing it as a parameter, even if I use it in different classes? I apologize if the question seems redundant, but like I said, I've taught myself most of what I know, so there are quite a few "holes" in my learning process.

  I have three main areas of my site and want to track total usage as well as breakdowns of the three parts. I am trying to segment the "type" of use on each page using a custom variable as such: ['_setCustomVar',1,'Visitor Type','Unknown',1] Visitor type can be one of three values: "Unknown", "Reader" or "publisher". Every page has this value set. Now when I look at my analytics chart and chose all three segments, the individual values do not match the sum. I've double checked the pages to make sure the custom var is there.

  We're currently building a new responsive website and while working on the site map figured that we don't want to show certain sections on mobile devices. This can be easily done by hiding the navigation parts using css/media queries. However, trouble is that the hidden sites would still show up in search engines' search results. If a user happens to click on one of these links she might happen to see a badly formatted page as we'd use desktop/tablet only code to show images and video. Is there any way to "influence" to exclude certain pages if the search is done on a mobile device? Do search engines crawl pages once or with a device specific view twice? Could we set a noindex meta tag for a specific device class?
