• PC does not restart after last kernel update

  I was using ubuntu 12.04 perfectly im my desktop until last kernel update (3.2.0-51). After the update proccess and reboot the system, the unity inteface didn' t start. The only way to login in the system is by tty. I have tried the last kernel versions available in the computer, but I can't use the graphycal interface. Until the text terminals is impossible to access the unity interface. If I don't encounter a solution I will re-install the whole system. Anybody can help me?

Question visual link is : Design this application The approach that I told him: Firstly build whole person's data (contacts , place information and all) Then where you mark on the map, just build a cluster of that country using Hadoop and fire the message to all the person's contact comes in that cluster. • knetworkmanager not starting at all

  It seems that my knetworkmanager is not starting anymore. Read: In KDE4's sys tray I don't have a icon to manage my networks. Also when starting it from terminal or kick off menu literally "nothing" happens. I don't know what's wrong with it. Sadly after reading this answer on superuser.com it seems I can not connect to wifi via iwconfig 'cause my network is WPA2 encrypted. (Basically I can not set they passphrase - invalid argumenterror.) So it seems I've to get knetworkmanger running again as I also can't download other tools. I've tried stuff like sudo service network-manager restart but it didn't seem to help. I'm kinda puzzled so any help for this would be appreciated. PS: If it hasn't become clear: The whole drama of is simply I can't connect to wifi and internet :o)

• Ubuntu installation time problem

  I am installing Ubuntu and I am stuck at a point. The step is when it is asking me to select partition. It is showing me error: "No file system is defined Please correct this from partitioning menu". I am getting this error when I am clicking "Install". I want Ubuntu to install in /dev/sda7 which is 226727 Mb. I have Windows 8 in my system and I want to dual boot the system. So how to correct this error? I want to allocate this whole partition to Ubuntu only. Secondly, What should I put in the option: "Device for boot loader installation"? By default it is somewhat like this: "ATA WDC WD5000..." something like this. Please tell my both these questions. I would be very thankful to you. Thanks.

• Using gLabels in 12.04 - How do I put part of text in bold?

  I am using gLabels to print a page of the same label which is an address that I entered in a text box. I want to put part of it in bold - e.g. the postcode and post town. I can change the whole text but I can't find how to select just part of it. I used to be able to do it on my old system but I can't find where to do it now.   I have a rather large collection of classes which check and mutate a given data structure. They can be composed via the composition pattern into arbitrarily complex tree-like structures. The final product contains a lot of these composed structures. My question is now: How can I test those? Albeit it is easy to test every single unit of these compositions, it is rather expensive to test the whole compositions in the following sense: Testing the correct layout of the composition-tree results in a huge number of test cases Changes in the compositions result in a very laborious review of every single test case What is the general guideline here?

• Where can I get the 11.04 kernel .config file?

  I'm using Maverick with the latest available kernels on kernel.org and building them myself. Until now I've been basing my configuration off the stock Maverick kernel and accepting the make oldconfig defaults. I've been doing this for 3 major releases now so I figure I'm starting to slip behind the current "standard". I would like to re-base my kernels off the new Natty .config file. Is this available somewhere online or do I have to download the whole kernel package and extract it? Edit: I've manually pulled in the config from the latest Natty kernel package and I can confirm that I propbably should have done this sooner. A lot of differences between my old "evolved" config and the Natty default. Now if I could just do this without 20 minutes of hunting and downloading the package so I can re-base in the future.

  I am really interested to hear any ideas or working practices that can be adopted to encourage our team of developers to write more code. A little background here is involves a team of varying disciplines, experience and qualities and the nature of the work has a large focus on bug fixes and business logic / data validation over writing lots of new greenfield code or even refactoring. We are attempting to move to a more Agile philosophy and really what would be great is to hear any ideas that can be sold to the team and / or the business with the aim of: Writing more new code to improve experience, abilities and increase exposure to newer and emerging patterns and practices. Energizing the effort of the team and inspire. Encouraging wider input of new ideas, patterns and practices from the team as a whole. • Cant install Ubuntu. How do you format a Windows HDD

  I have an HP 630, and would like to install Ubuntu. All goes well until the point where you have to choose how you want Ubuntu installed. I choose on the whole HDD, I want Windows off the HDD. I press enter and about 5 seconds later the CD tray open and the computer reboots. This happens over and over. How do I format this Window HDD completely to install Ubuntu 13.04. I have tried 3 different CD's and the same thing happens each time.

• Is it advisable to ask employees to create 'work' GitHub accounts?

  I've moved all our company Git repositories to GitHub and now I want to add employees to the projects. Since most employees already have personal GitHub accounts, I'm wondering whether I should ask them to create a work GitHub account. The reason that I'm thinking of doing this is to decrease the chances of unauthorized access to our code base since their personal accounts may be well publicized through their personal activity on the site, increasing chances of targeted attacks. Furthermore, if their personal account is ever compromised it won't mean the whole company code is accessible to the hijacker. Since this will bring the burden of maintaining two accounts for the employees I'm wondering whether it is the correct approach and whether it even makes sense. I would love to hear your opinions on this.

• How can I disable as much "flair" as possible in Unity?

  I'm running Ubuntu 11.10 from a fresh install on a somewhat aged computer, so I have some speed problems. But since I do want to use the new cool way to work with things that Unity introduces I do not want to fiddle with getting another desktop environment. My idea is to disable as much flair as possible, but there are tonnes of options that I do not understand or have the time to read up on when I launch CompizConfig Settings Manager. Which of these could safely be disabled? Are there other places where performance could be gained by disabling things? So how can I make the whole thing a little more snappy?

Roll your own Install Something Like Wordpress Use a hosted service like Tumblr Obviously, if you can get away with Option 3 you have done yourself a favor. I have been using Tumblr and pointing blog.mydomain.com to the domains.tumblr.com CNAME to get a free blog that looks like it belongs to my site. I want to be able to display my blog on my root level hostname like mydomain.com/blog. The whole point of moving from blog.mydomain.com to mydomain.com/blog is for SEO purposes. Whats the best way to go about this and still get to leverage a hosted blogging platform like Tumblr?

• Dropbox 99% instalation crash. Strange "Searching" Ubuntu Software Center bug [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: Dropbox fails to install, stuck at 99% I just installed Dropbox via Ubuntu Software Center, and the known crash of 99%, which was in Ubuntu Software center, happened. I want to remove Dropbox completely since something went wrong, but I can't. When I start my Ubuntu, it starts a process which eats up all of the CPU. In Ubuntu Software Center, there is a process "Searching Applying Changes", but nothing really happens. When I'm trying to uninstall Dropbox, nothing happens, since the seaching thing is "first". Please, I'm asking for a option which doesn't include proper reinstallation of Dropbox, only of getting rid of it, and without reinstalling the whole Ubuntu system (format, chaos etc).

• Why Ubuntu always force itself to be in 1440x900 resolution?

  My screen's resolution is 1024x768 and when I installed Ubuntu it was forcefully in 1440x900. I changed it in my account and again I've to change it in another standard account. I don't know any way to change it in login screen. Also when shutting down that black screen with some commands also appears in 1440x900. I don't know why Ubuntu force itself to be in 1440x900. I want 1024x768 in whole way. I don't know whether it is required but I have Intel chipset 128 MB.

• What is the easiest and fastest way to display an SDL_Surface in a window with SDL2?

  I would like to have an SDL_Surface representing the contents of the window, just like in the old days with SDL1.2. What is the best and fastest way to do it in SDL2? What I found is that I need an SDL_Window, an SDL_Renderer for that window, an SDL_Texture to render, and an SDL_Surface to create a texture from. This seems a bit too much to me, since I just want to display a single image on the screen. Not to mention the impact on the performance. On my machine (Lenovo Y510p laptop) this whole procedure takes 9ms, without any memory allocation, only using pre-allocated variables and totally black SDL_Surface. Is there a way I could speed up things?

I'm only 19 and college is going to come soon, I want to go for Web and Software development and/or Network Security and Administration, I know the networking is a whole different ballpark, but as for programming, which languages do you suggest I get under my belt before college? I was thinking the C languages (C++, C#), Java, .NET; Should I learn any more Server Side Scripting languages? Python, Perl, Ruby? I used to be somewhat familiar with writing Java, but haven't written in Java in a good while, what would you suggest? Thanks!

  Bigger companies usually have the problem, that it is not possible to write all programs employees want (to save time and to optimize processes) due to a lack of staff and money. Then hidden programs will be created by some people having (at least some) coding experience (or by cheap students/interns...). Under some circumstances these applications will raise in importance and spread from one user to a whole department. Then there is the critical point: Who will maintain the application, add new features, ...? And this app is critical. It IS needed. But the intern has left the company. No one knows how it works. You only have a bunch of sources and some sort of documentation. Does it make sense to try and control or forbid application development done ad-hoc outside of the IT department (with the exception of minor stuff like Excel macros)?

The employees are callers and after every call they will get some form on which they will give their call summery like time duration. They are payed for each call depending on time duration.   I'm interested in android activity lifecycle and I would like to get more detailed description/documentation/reference than widely available basic (onCreate-onStart-onResume) one. My need comes from realizing that starting new activity (Theme.Dialog styled) from onAttachedToWindow() greatly improves response time if comparing to starting it from onCreate(). I wonder how this onAttachedToWindow() fits into whole android activity lifecycle. Official API ref description "Called when the window has been attached to the window manager" doesn't help a lot.

  When creating JSON data manually, how should I escape string fields? Should I use something like Apache Commons Lang's StringEscapeUtilities.escapeHtml, StringEscapeUtilities.escapeXml, or should I use java.net.URLEncoder? The problem is that when I use SEU.escapeHtml, it doesn't escape quotes and when I wrap the whole string in a pair of 's, a malformed JSON will be generated.

  We use Jira/Greenhopper for our project planning/tracking. The built-in graphs are great, but when a new issue/story is added during a project, the whole burn-down graph moves up rather than increasing the part of the graph when the issue was added. Ideally I'd like to generate a Mike Cohn-style burndown graph, which shows a hump when new issues are added. Does anyone know of any plugins that support this, or been able to extract this data directly from the database?
