• Multiple video overlay - need advice

  Hi, I'm working on a project and I need some advice. Just some background, Im not a programmer though at times I do some fiddling and I am generally comfortable with more specific terms. Now for the actual issue, I have a folder with 10 small videos (4/7 secs max each) and I would like to display them full screen looping and overlaid. I'm not too sure on at what should I be looking at, I thought maybe processing but my most serious issue if that I cant even ask for help since I don't know what I need. Thank you for your time.

• Flex Client application - HTTPRequest problem in the initialize function.

  Hello all. I have a serious problem in my flex client applications. I have an apache server with php web services. the flex client makes an httpservice requests. I noticed that the httpservice requests that runs from the creationComplete event of the application does not always get data from the server. but HTTPservice requests called from user actions always work.   We are leaving VSS for TFS or any other alternatives. I'm the one who persists to go for an open source alternative like SVN. Now I'm searching for a good open source Version Control regarding following aspects: We are in love with open source movement and cross-platform. Could it be possible to use it with Mono, SharpDevelop and Express editions of VS instead of Visual Studio itself? What about backup? Is it integrated with VS without serious problems? • Monotouch Binding to Linea Pro SDK

  I'm trying to create a binding to the Linea Pro (it's the barcode scanner they use in the Apple Stores, Lowes) SDK. I'm using David Sandor's bindings as a reference, but the SDK has been updated a few times since January of 2011. I have most everything working, except for the playSound call, which is used to, well, play a sound on the Linea Pro device. The .h file from the SDK has the call as follows: -(BOOL)playSound:(int)volume beepData:(int *)data length:(int)length error:(NSError **)error; I've tried using int[], NSArray, and an IntPtr to the int[], but nothing seems to work. The last unsuccessful iteration of my binding looks like: [Export ("playSound:beepData:length:")] void PlaySound (int volume, NSArray data, int length); Now, this doesn't work at all. Also note that I have no idea what to do with the error:(NSError **)error part, either. I am lacking some serious familiarity with C, so any help would be extremely appreciated.

• (iPhone SDK) How to link instance variables to a specific UILabel

  I'm using the iPhone SDK to build a simple application. I've created a brand new class which has a single variable. I need to make 5 instances of that class, which I have no trouble doing. I can create those instances and also set the variables without issue. What i do need to know is this: How do I link each of the 5 different instances of the variable to different and specific UILabels? Would I be better to create a method that dynamically creates and positions the labels? Thanks for your help in advance, I'm now to this iphone programming thing. • Is Haskell "mainstream", or is it mainly used by hobbyists and academics?

  I came across a post where someone wrote something inaccurate about Haskell (won't go into it) and he got flammed for it. Which (pleasantly) surprised me. About 3 years ago I read this joke about Haskell: All the haskell programmers in the world can fit into a 747 and if that plane were to crash no one would care... or something along those lines. Which brings me to my question: how healthy is the Haskell community, anyway? Is Haskell "mainstream"? Is it mainly used by hobbiest and academics or someone making some serious money from it (which is the true yardstick of how good a language is - just kidding, geez!)?

• How to keep a process running on a remote windows server

  I need to implement a background process that runs on a remote windows server 24/7. My development environment is C#/ASP.NET 3.5. The purpose of the process is to: Send reminder e-mails to employees and customers at appropriate times (say 5:00PM on the day before a job is scheduled) Query and save GPS coordinates of employees when they are supposed to be out on jobs so that I can later verify that their positions were where they were supposed to be. If the process fails (which it probably will, especially when updates are added), I need for it to be restarted immediately (or within just a few minutes) as I would have very serious problems if this process failed to send a notification, log a GPS coordinate, or any of the other tasks its meant to perform.

• FCKeditor in jQuery ui dialog not working

  Hi folks, I'm having serious trouble getting this to work in IE7/8. In FF, everything works as expected. When the user clicks on a certain link, a modal dialog popup is shown. In this dialog, there is a form, which contains one textarea, that is replaced with a FCK instance. The form is loaded from the server using ajax on the clientside and php on the serverside. There's one strange way to get the FCK editor shown, and that is by resizing the dialog. Library versions: jquery: 1.3.2 jquery ui: 1.7.3 FCKeditor: 2.6.1 build 19297 Any help would be strongly appreciated, I'm on a deadline here :-(

  Hi Guys, Like everyone of us, I have my own dreams about developing the next cool product that will be adopted by many users and become industry standard. Surprisingly, I find that the most challenging task is to keep my website up & running. My site is being hacked again and again no matter what I do - I blocked the FTP connections, changed the Joomla (CMS) database table names, installed all latest patches and what not. The web site supports the product (over 1800 users now...) by generating licenses, support forums, documentation, galleries etc. The product which is a winforms application cannot be marketed without this web site. • Is there a way to disable calls to Runtime.checkRestricted on the GAE Java development server under Eclipse?

  I'm one of those guys who step through their code a lot during development. Beginning with version 1.6.4 of the GAE Java development server, the server has been instrumented with calls to a function named Runtime.checkRestricted. This causes two inconveniences when I step through my code: 1) Whenever I step into a function, the debugger goes into the function Runtime.checkRestricted (for which there is no source code) at least once, often multiple times. 2) Whenever I step over a function call which has a large call tree underneath it, then it takes a very long time for the debugger to come back. (That's always a problem in the Eclipse Java debugger, but now it's really bad.) For me, all this causes a serious drain on productivity. Is there any way to disable this instrumentation, or to prevent the debugger from stepping into it? I am using Eclipse with the GAE plugin.

I am doing something similar to the below: private void onCreate() { final ProgressDialog dialog = ProgressDialog.show(this, "Please wait..", "Doing stuff..", true); Thread t = new Thread() { public void run() { //do some serious stuff... dialog.dismiss(); } }; t.start(); t.join(); stepTwo(); } However, what I am finding is that my progress dialog never even shows up. My App stalls for a moment so I know it is chugging along inside of thread t, but why doesnt my dialog appear? IF I remove the line: t.join(); Then what I find happens is that the progress dialog does show up, but my app starts stepTwo(); before what happens in the thread is complete.. Any ideas?

  I've been working for the past four days on inverse kinematics for my game engine. I'm working on a game with a shoestring budget so when the idea of inverse kinematics came up I knew I had to make it such that the 3D models bones would be mathematically changed to appear to be stepping on objects. This is causing some serious problems with my animation, after it was technically implemented the animations started looking quite bad when the character was wlaking up inclines or steps even though mathematically the stepping was correct and was even smoothly interpolating. So I was wondering, is it actually possible to get a smooth efficient inverse kinematic system based exclusively on math where bones are changed or is this just a wild goose chase and I should either solve the inverse kinematics problem with animation blending or don't do it at all?

  Hi, I have the following line of code: <%= Html.Label((string) GetLocalResourceObject("Label_Email")) %> This generates a label within an HTML page. In the local resource file I have the following entry: Name: Label_Email Value:Email For some very strange reason when I load the page in the browser, it generates an HTML label with a value of "Email Address" instead of "Email". This is a serious problem for me because I need to localize the application and not have english word "address". When I replace Value in the local resouce file with "Email " (notice extra space), everything works fine, but this is a hack and I need to understand why my application is behaving this way.   I've been having serious problems trying to set up boost. I must have installed and uninstalled the libraries a dozen times. In my most recent attempt, I followed these instructions: Download the zip and unzip it. Get the prebuilt jam executable and unzip it. Put that directory in your path. (Edit Path by using Control Panel...System..Advanced....Environemnt Variables) Open Visual Studio command prompt. Browse to boost directory. Run: bjam "-sTOOLS=vc-8_0" install The main reason I'm trying to use boost is for boost/filesystem yet nothing is working. I know this question has been asked before, but it only resulted in more errors.. Please Help!

  Using EF we can use LINQ to read data which is rather simple (especialy using fluent calls), but we have less control unless we write eSQL on our own. Is writing eSQL database actually data store independant code? So if we decide to change data store, can the same statements still be used? Is writing eSQL strings in your code pose any serious security threats similar to writing TSQL statements in plain strings? So we moved to SPs. Could we still mode eSQL scripts outside of code as well and use some other technique to make them a bit more secure?

  We are trying to design 6 web services, which will serve another client component. The client component requires data from the web service we are implementing. Now, the problem is, there is not 1 WS we are implementing, there is one WS which the client component hits, this initiates a series (5 more) of WSs which gather data from their respective data stores and finally provide the data back to the original WS, which then delivers the data back to the client component. So, if the requested data becomes huge, then, this will be a serious problem for our internal communication channel. So, what do you guys suggest? What can be done to avoid overloading of the communication channel between the internal WS and at the same time, also delivering the data to the client component.

• Jquery selectors by CSS class in IE is really slow--workarounds?

  I have a web app where I have several elements with class="classA". I want to select and apply a function to all of them. I am doing the obvious thing, which is $(".classA").each(function () { ... }). This works just fine in Chrome/Safari/Firefox but is really slow in IE. It turns out IE has serious performance issues when selecting things by CSS class in jQuery. I was wondering if anyone has suggestions on good ways to deal with this. I can't use ID selectors because there can be multiple DOM elements I want to select.
