    I've read in several places that you should decide whether you want trailing slashes or no trailing slashes in your site URLs and stick to your choice consistently. This makes sense, but which should I pick? Is there a convention I ought to follow, performance to be gained, or is it totally up to my taste? (I notice that the StackExchange sites link without trailing slashes, but SE doesn't redirect if you add a slash.)

  • How do I remove the on screen keyboard from the logon screen in Windows Remote Desktop Server 2008 R

    The on screen keyboard (OSK) from the "ease of access" tools pops up on EVERY connect to the server, even if you have not activated it. I can't seem to find a control panel or reg setting to switch it off. It is VERY "in your face" for linux users who connect at lower resolutions and do not provide all credentials, but have to type username and password. I'm running a 2008 R2 Terminal Server/Remote Desktop Server.

    I’m using the Music app on my iPad 1 with iOS 5.1.1. For some reason, over time my iPad’s Playlists have been populated with more and more Genius Playlists making it extremely sluggish and almost impossible to access my own playlists. As of right now there are 16 copies for an “Adult Contemporary Rock Mix”. Multiple copies exist for a large number of genres. How do I get these off my iPad so I can get to the playlists I actually care about?

  • Is it possible to remove constant "beep" sound from recording?

    Whenever I record with my microphone, I get this constant beep sound on the background. It appears only when I turn volume up, so it is not very loud, but its noticable and pretty annoying. Because it is constant sound, I thought it should be possible to filter just that one frequency, but I have absolutely no idea how to do it.

Windows sees it also as two identical usb devices, and mounts two separate drives to system, whereas first one presents itself as a CDROM device, holding a write-protected content, and second is a regular flash-disk partition, that "can" be written to. However, it seems like it's broken in some weird way, since it won't let me write anything to it, format it, nothing, but that's not the issue right now. Question: How can I unlock entire USB stick so it appears to system as a single, 8GB device which can be partitioned and used normally, without restrictions? Since it appeared to be an U3 device, I have tried standard utilities: both U3 Uninstaller by u3.com (found on SoftPedia), and opensource u3_tool from sourceforge (on both Windows and Linux). First utility failed to even detect USB stick as U3 device (simply stood idle while I re-plugged stick several times), while second tool failed with some obscure error about SCSI command unable to do something (I might be able to provide exact errors when I switch back to windows). u3_tool -i /dev/sg3 (Display device info) fails with u3_partition_info() failed: Device reported command failed: status 1 ...and every other option fails with same error, minus first part which states which command precisely has failed. So, apparently, this isn't a U3 device. Or, if it is, it doesn't behave like one. I read on a few occasions that this device protection is done by special command sent to device which tells it to lock itself, and so there should be an unlock command, that would set drive straight. Does anyone have any idea about what could I do to this device to fix it? P.S. I also mentioned a problem with being unable to use second "drive", but I'll tackle that problem when (and if) I manage to merge those two devices into one...

  • Is there any automatic tool to remove edges from an image that has been anti-aliased onto a white ba

    I have a few images that have been anti-aliased onto a white background that I want to put on a transparent background. Just selecting it with the -wand tool/fuzzy select tool/select your terminology of choice- and deleting the background tends to leave a ring of off-white pixels around the image, or eat into the image depending on the tolerance setting. Is there some better way to do this, preferably an automatic tool? (I'm on Linux)

  • How to either completely remove SQL Server 2008 R2 Installation or repair it?

    I've installed MSSQL server correctly, then I took some wrong turns and I'm now left in a pretty undesirable state. I wanted to change the server instance to another drive, so I uninstalled SQL server and all of it's features from the Programs and Features control panel. Now when I tried to install a new instance, I got a few errors, but it still installed most of them: Then I tried to run a repair, which I figured would fix things, but it throws an exception about not being able to read something from the CD (tried more than once always the same exception) Error 1316.A network error occurred while attempting to read from the file R:\1033_ENU_LP\x64\setup\SSCERuntime_x86-enu.msi , and it fails to repair a few of the features: And I don't have the server instance installed either. So I'm left with no MSSQLMS, no server instance, and no happiness. What would be the best course of action here?

  • Migrated from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007 - remove old 03 computer account?

    Migrated from Exchange 2003 to 2007 back in February of this year. I've still got the old exchange computer account in AD. Can I simply delete the computer account or will bad things start happening? I've looked in the Exchange 07 console and don't see the old server listed at all. HOWEVER: we do still have an old CNAME for this old Exchange server pointing to the new one for a few old clients that still have their mail server set to the old name...if that matters at all. I ran "get-exchangeserver" on the new server and the old one isn't listed at all.

  • How to remove an "extra" (unwanted) network from a windows 2008 failover cluster?

    Hi, We had a severe crash on one node of our 2-node Windows 2008 / Exchange 2007 CCR Cluster the other day, and i tried to rebuild the node from scratch. I'm using this as a rough outline: http://edmckinzie.spaces.live.com/Blog/cns!687C72A5909E4230!508.entry?sa=641979772 The problem: Our cluster was originally setup with only one NIC per host, as this is supposedly supported in Win2008 (no dedicated heartbeat NIC). When I add my freshly installed node to the cluster, it shows up with two cluster networks, "Cluster Network 1" & 2. The existing node's NIC has been placed in one cluster network and my fresh installed has ended up in the other. I can't find anywhere in the GUI to choose which cluster network each physical NIC should be part of, but i KNOW I have done this before. Time is of the essence on this one, so I was hoping someone in here had the answer on the top of their head... Thanks for any pointers. regards, Trond Hindenes

  • "Automatically Connect" option for Mobile Broadband crashes GNOME Shell, how to remove network configurations?

    I'm using Fedora 15, in GNOME Shell, my mobile broadband connection was working absolutely fine, until I set the connection type to Connect Automatically using nm-connection-manager. Now, when I start the Fedora, the Top panel network icon shows red exclamation symbol and when I click it, instead of showing me available networks' list, it shows only "Network Settings", and when I open it, it shows GNOME 3's new Network Manager app, and it pops out the dialog saying that, "Current network settings service is incompatible with this version". And after a few seconds of log in, the shell freezes and all I can do is log out using Ctrl+Alt+BackSpace. I'm facing this problem since I opened old network manager app using nm-connection-manager in the run dialog, and editing my connection to connect automatically. After logging in to the shell I somehow managed to delete that connection from the same app and created a new one, but the problem still exists. How can I delete all network preferences (by deleting its configuration files from my home directory or something like that) and reset the GNOME 3's network manager to its default state?

That is, this query: select replace(name, ' ', 'X') from sysfiles Returns the expected names plus a long string of Xs. How can I deal with this? I've tried running ALTER DATABASE... MODIFY FILE using the name (with and without spaces) and get an error message telling me the file does not exist.

    I have an vps running on VmWare ESX with Ubuntu 8.04 LTS. It has been running smoothly for the past 3 months, however recently we've notices two strange bugs. a. The server hangs, today was second time. The nature of the hang is very strange. I can ping to the server server, it sends back response fine. However all other services like sshd, apache, mysql etc do not respond at all. When working, telnet servername 22 Escape character is '^]'. SSH-2.0-OpenSSH_5.X Debian-5ubuntu1 And other web services would run fine. When its hung, I can make tcp connections to 22 as well as 80 but receive no response at all. telnet servername 22 Escape character is '^]'. How can I debug this problem? Is there any daemons I can run that will periodically log status? Please tell me as to how to proceed with it. b. The another strange problem is that, of lately I am unable to transfer files larger than around 100KB, smaller files of around 1-2 KB works file. scp anotherserver:filename . or wget http://www.example.com/file would get stuck. There is still around 6GB of space remaining, so I don't think that is an issue. Any pointers where I should look into?

    Maybe someone can shed some light on a bit of Powershell weirdness I've come across and can't explain. Some rows contain numbers! If I put the '|sort name| ' after the initial 'get-mailboxdatabase' it works fine. Whats even weirder is if I do the following: Execute the above command Add the sort before format-table Execute the new command Execute the initial command again What I see is different amounts in each of the three cases - all of which are incorrect. Yet 1 and 3 are the same command and the only difference with 2 is a sort. 1 and 3 should, at a minimum, return the same results. I get blanks where I should have MBs If I add the sort after the get-mailboxdatabase, it always returns identical results (as it should). Can anyone suggest an explanation as to what may be going on?   • Unable to remove limit on memory usage for PHP script.

    The Situation I am having an issue with a PHP script getting the following error message: Fatal error: Out of memory (allocated 359923712) (tried to allocate 72 bytes) in /path/to/piwik/core/DataTable.php on line 969 The script I'm running is: /path/to/piwik/misc/cron/archive.sh I am assuming the numbers are Bytes, which means that total is approximately 360MB. For all intents and purposes, I have increased the memory limits on the server well above 360MB, yet this is the number (give or take a byte) it consistently errors out at. Please note: This question is not about fixing a memory leak in the script, nor about why the script itself is using so much memory. The script is part of the Piwik archiving process, so I cannot just fix any memory leaks, etc. For more info on this script and why I am increasing the memory limit, see "How to setup auto archiving" The question Given that the script is attempting to use over 360MB of memory, which I cannot change, why does it not seem possible for me to increase the amount of memory available to php on my server? What I've tried Increasing PHP's memory_limit Given the php.ini file: php -i | grep php.ini Configuration File (php.ini) Path => /usr/local/lib Loaded Configuration File => /usr/local/lib/php.ini I have edited that file, so the memory_limit directive reads; memory_limit = -1 Restart Apache, and check the new value has stuck; $ php -i | grep memory_limit memory_limit => -1 => -1 Run the script, and get the same error. I've also tried 1G, 768M, etc, all to the same result (ie; no change). Update 22nd June: Based on Vangel's help, I have attempted to set post_max_size to 20M in combination with setting memory_limit. Again, this has no effect. Removing the memory limit on child processes of Apache I have found and edited the httpd.conf file to make sure there is no RLimitMEM directive. I then used WHM's Apache Configuration Memory Usage Restrictions to generate a restriction, which it claimed was at 1000M (and confirmed by checking httpd.conf). Both of these resulted in no change to the script erroring at 360MB. Increasing the per process memory limits of Linux The current limits set on the system: $ ulimit -m 524288 $ ulimit -v 524288 I have attempted to set both of these to unlimited: $ ulimit -m unlimited $ ulimit -v unlimited $ ulimit -m unlimited $ ulimit -v unlimited Once again, this has resulted in absolutely no improvement in my problem.   • How do I remove the black statusbar on Vimperator for Firefox?

    I recently installed Vimperator and found it awesome, however not really fitting for my everyday tasks. So instead of disabling and enabling it each time, I decided to keep it enabled and show the Firefox toolbar. My only problem is that the black (or other colors depending on the security of the site) bar at the bottom breaks the persona induced eye-candy. Is there any way to permanently change the color of the bar, or hide it while I'm using Vimperator?

  • How do I remove the ServerSignature added by mod_fcgid?

    I'm running Mod_Security and I'm using the SecServerSignature to customize the Server header that Apache returns. This part works fine, however I'm also running mod_fcgid which appends "mod_fcgid/2.3.5" to the header. Is there any way I can turn this off? Setting ServerSignature off doesn't do anything. I was able to get it to go away by changing the ServerTokens but that removed the customization I had added.
