    Hi, Regarding to jQuery utility function jQuery.data() the online documentation says: "The jQuery.data() method allows us to attach data of any type to DOM elements in a way that is safe from circular references and therefore from memory leaks. " Why to use: document.body.foo = 52; can result a memory leak -or in what conditions- so that I should use jQuery.data(document.body, 'foo', 52); Should I ALWAYS prefer .data() instead of using expandos in any case?   • Is there a way that I can force mod_perl to re-use buffer memory?

    Hi, I have a Perl script running in mod_perl that needs to write a large amount of data to the client, possibly over a long period. The behavior that I observe is that once I print and flush something, the buffer memory is not reclaimed even though I rflush (I know this can't be reclaimed back by the OS). Is that how mod_perl operates and is there a way that I can force it to periodically free the buffer memory, so that I can use that for new buffers instead of taking more from the OS?

The documentation I've linked to above shows two functions that almost do what I want: tempfile.NamedTemporaryFile # For creating named tempfiles tempfile.SpooledTemporaryFile # For creating tempfiles in memory but actually I want a tempfile that is both named AND in memory. Any ideas?

    I understand the purpose of the NULL constant in C/C++, and I understand that it needs to be represented some way internally. My question is: Is there some fundamental reason why the 0-address would be an invalid memory-location for an object in C/C++? Or are we in theory "wasting" one byte of memory due to this reservation?

    I am conducting stress tests on my database, which is hosted on SQL Server 2008 64-bit running on a 64-bit machine with 10 GB of RAM. I have 400 threads. Each thread queries the database every second, but the query time does not take time, as the SQL profiler says that, but after 18 hours SQL Server uses up 7.2 GB of RAM and 7.2 GB of virtual memory. Is this normal behavior? How can I adjust SQL Server to clean up unused memory?

    I have a base class for some plugin-style stuff, and there are some methods that are absolutely required to be implemented. I currently declare those in the base class as virtual, for example public virtual void Save { throw new NotImplementedException(); } and in the descendand I have a public override void Save() { //do stuff } Is it a good practice to throw a NotImplementedException there? The descendand classes could for example be the modules for handling different file formats. Thanks

    hi I when i am trying to run virtual machine on VMW 6.5 it shows me following error. "Not enough physical memory is available to power on this virtual machine with its configured settings. To fix this problem, adjust the additional memory settings to allow more virtual machine memory to be swapped. If you were able to power on this virtual machine on this host computer in the past, try rebooting the host computer. Rebooting may allow you to use slightly more host memory to run virtual machines." i have also tried options that are suggested from above error, but still its not working.   • Virtual Disk Degraded

    There is a physical DC with a Raid 1 Mirror, 2 Physical Disks, 500GB each. Dell Server Administrator is installed on the DC, and is reporting both physical disks are fine, online, in a good state etc. On a PERC S300 Raid Controller: Physical Disk 0:0 Physical Disk 0:1 However at the same time it's reporting that a virtual disk is degraded, what exactly does this mean? The virtual disk indicates it's State is in a Raid 1 Layout. Device Name: Windows Disk 0 If my understanding is correct then the Virtual Disk, when you drill down into Dell OpenManage should have both physical disks as members, as it is a mirror? Is this correct? However, when I drill down into the Virtual Disk, it only displays Physical Disk 0:0 included in Virtual Disk 1. I'm very new to server side/raid management etc. just while our server techy is away! Thanks!

    Is there any virtual desktop software that can virtualize desktop just like a virtual desktop to sandbox (sort of like virtualization and sandbox combined). I want to create many desktop and each of them must be sandbox. For example if I have virus infected in one of the desktop, I just have to clear or close the desktop and everything is fine. Is there any software that can do that kind of jobs that I have mentioned? Remember I am not asking recommendation of software, but the software that can do the job. UPDATE: I mean that every virtual desktop is working as a virtual box or sandbox. Clearing or closing the desktop will work as shutting down that virtual box.

    I have a production site, running off 10 servers. I've been given another virtual server on the same network as these 10 servers, to use for testing purposes. This server doesn't have it's own DNS entry. Therefore I need to do a redirect to the site hosted on this virtual server for a sub-domain of the site running on the 10 other servers. So Basically I was wondering how I would configure a sub domain of my production server to point at the Virtual server for testing. I'm guessing I need to modify my site file in /etc/apache2/sites-available and add another virtual host like the following and modify the redirect match: <VirtualHost *> ServerName SUBDOMAIN.DOMAIN.com RedirectMatch 301 (.*) **IP ADDRESS** CustomLog /var/log/apache2/SUBDOMAIN.DOMAIN.com.access.log combined </VirtualHost> Do I set the redirect match to just the IP on the Virtual server, and then configure another site file in the sites-available directory, which will recption this redirect and point the browser towards the HTML root? In order to try and mitigate a run away memory situation, I've set the app pool memory limits from anywhere between 500KB to 500000KB (500MB) however the app pool doesn't seem to respect the settings as I can login and view the physical memory for it (5GB and above no matter what values). This app is killing the server and I can't seem to determine how to adjust the app pool. What settings do you recommend in order to ensure this app pool doesn't exceed around 500mb of memory.   • virtual box strectch to fit resolution

    Hey guys I have a really annoying problem, that I hope someone has figured out. I just installed ubuntu on virtual box and installed the guest additions so everything was great. I had a resolution that stretched across my screen from left to right and the only virtual box components that were visible were the windows vista title bar : minimize/exit/maximize buttons and virtual box controls at the bottom. Now all of a sudden now that I have installed the ubuntu 170mb of automatic updates, I see vertical and horizontal scroll bars that are part of virtual box and the ubuntu resolution will not stretch across my screen anymore. What I want is a ubuntu resolution that will stretch to fit the maximized window of virtual box, and remove the scroll bars. If anyone has any ideas, I would really appreciate it.
