  I have updated to Windows 8 and got Internet Explorer 10, but I don't get the full screen mode, is just like another desktop app. All links on the Windows Store Apps (Bing, News...) redirect to the old desktop and open my default browser. I have been looking on the IE10 options but I don't see this option. How can I solve this? • Very frequent "Server not found" messages

  Recently, while browsing and clicking or typing an address, I get: "Server not found", "Connection was reset", or a half-loaded page. Usually the page loads instantly after clicking reload, but this means I must reload on every page. Images on one site, but stored at a different server don't load until reloading for a second time. Clicking "submit" on many sites frequently doesn't work unless I reload many times. Sometimes sites load, but without colors and formating, appearing as if they would in Lynx. This seems to happen with every Web site. My Internet service claims everything on their end is fine. This happened a day after running an update in aptitude. I have not updated any hardware. I have tried clearing Iceweasel's cache. I do not have any router or other equipment. What could be going on? How can I troubleshoot this? PPPoE connection, Iceweasel 3.5.16, Debian 6

• IE Search Provider: Specifying gTLD / Country-Specific Site

  I am based in the UK, and as such typically use google.co.uk as my search engine. However, my employer is based in continental Europe, and thus my internet proxy is located overseas. As a result, IP geo-location presents a location outside of the UK. Google detects this, and as a result will redirect my searches from the address bar to a foreign Google domain. This leads to "local" answers having a higher ranking, many of which are not written in English language! Is there a specific search provider / URL I can give to IE which will use a specific gTLD of google (.co.uk), rather than performing the location-based redirect?

  I'm looking for an application that can manage (save/open) multiple Internet Explorer instances (to be precise nomerge sessions), host them in single window and arrange these instances e.g. in tabs, so in result you have double tab bar. In functionality it's similar to Remote Desktop Manager, where you can create Web session, but in embedded mode you cannot set the nomerge option. I've been searching the web, but with no results. So I put this question whether anyone know of such application or workaround. Or I have to write my own app.

• Using a Token-ring network card instead of a router (?)

  I have cable, and the modem only has 1 network plug-in. They said I could buy my own router if I wanted to hook up two computers to it. I have an IBM Turbo 16/4 Token-Ring PC Card 2, which was in the laptop when I bought it, and the laptop also has the typical network plug (not a PC Card). Is there a way I could run the laptop as a server, and plug my desktop into the laptop, so they both have internet without my having to buy a router? (I realize routers are as cheap as $30.) Both computers run Windows XP Pro SP3. (I also have an 10/100 Etherjet Cardbus card (PC Card)). Thanks.

  What I'm trying to do: Connect to the internet without registering But! Here's my problem: I can't connect. I used to be able to, now when I try to connect it says "Server not found." I can connect just fine on my other Laptop. I did a test as well. I used a LAN USB adapter and could connect fine, then now I can't connect again. Possibly because I am using uTorrent to download stuff, but I want to connect again Is there anyway I can use some sort of "virtual adapter"-type of connection where it masks my actual adapter? • Why don't the keyboard shortcuts (e.g. hotkeys like Ctrl-C) work in a SharePoint rich-text field?

  I use SharePoint 2010 via Internet Explorer 8 on Windows XP. I have a standard input mask for a task consisting of text fields, rich-text fields et al. In text fields, I can use keyboard shortcuts (a.k.a. hotkeys) for editing (Ctrl-C/Ctrl-V) and formatting (Ctrl-B/Ctrl-I), but in the richtext field, none of them work. If I click on the appropriate button, however, the expected function is executed properly - but that is a tedious workaround. What could be the cause? Could it be that the Ctrl key is not recognized at all? (BTW: The problem is not reproducible in Firefox, because it doesn't show the rich-text controls at all. Why is another question.)

  Currently ISPs deal out addresses via DHCP for IPv4 dynamic (single) addresses. What protocol will/are ISPs going to use for IPv6 when they can hand a customer an entire /64 (or /48 if they are nice) block? DHCPv6, RA? For ISPs that support true end-to-end IPv6 will they provide gateway devices (similar to cable modem or true DSL bridges for example) that receive border information for that specific customer? I'm just trying to get an idea of how your common residential service customer will have to configure things in an IPv6 Internet (whenever that comes). Will it be something customers are expected to statically configure on their home wireless router? Today with IPv4 I do it like this: Modem (bridge) passes public IPv4 obtained via DHCPv4 from ISP to second device (wireless router). It in turn has its own DHCPv4 service it provides on the internal lan.

  Long story short: modem and wireless router are downstairs and we're having a LAN party where some visitors don't have wireless. There's no way to run the length of cabling required, so looking for options. My Windows 7 Home Premium PC has a wireless-n connection, and I'd like to see if I can use it as a "hub" or switch of sorts, running an ethernet cable out of the back and into a switch, then splitting off to the other PCs. Is this an option? I know with Internet sharing, you can set up your PC as a wireless access point, but I want to do the opposite.

• LAN full of public ipv4 addresses - How to filter it?

  The answer to my question maybe is not that hard but anyways, I do not know what to do. So, I just got in a new job in a Univerisity and I found out that the network (the LAN) is full of public IP addresses. Seriously, the whole LAN (probably more than 150 hosts) has it' own internet IP address and I don't know how to manage it. I have a very good experience using iptables (Linux firewall) in a NAT'ed environment. But then how should I proceed in an environment where all my LAN is working with a bunch of public IP addresses? Should I just use the "forward" rules and ignore the NAT rules or is there any other issue in such environment which I should take care? Can I add a firewall between the router and the LAN in order to produce packet filtering for these public IP addresses in my LAN or will this just not work? Thanks!

• Is it possible for a router to "go bad" with time?

  I've been having problems with my internet connection over the past weeks (intermittent disconnections, slow transfers, etc), and my provider keeps telling me that the problem is not on their end. I have cablemodem with a wifi router (this router was not provided by them). The router is quite old (DIR-300), so I'm starting to wonder if it could be the issue and if I should replace it. Is it possible that it is the cause? Can they become so outdated that they cause intermittent interruptions of service? If I reset the modem and the router, they work fine for a few hours, but the problems starts again after a while.

  I work in an office with a 8mbps line and about a 100 people. Our internet has slowed to crawl over the past few months, as we added headcount. However, using speedtest.net or other sites, still shows bandwidth as 8mbps. Now, how do I justify to management that we indeed need to upgrade our bandwidth ? Please note that I dont have access to our main routers or any network equipment. I can only use my system (windows+linux dual boot) to make a case for a reasonable justification. help!

  Hi, I recently finished installing Squid on a VPS I have in the US and its working fine locally (I verified by setting http_proxy variable and using lynx). I want to access this proxy over the internet (as an anonymizer) so that I can see how some ads show up for US traffic on my website. I have setup authentication so abuse is not a problem. However, I am not able to access the proxy over the internet. I have set the following rule in squid.conf http_access allow all Is this not possible to do what I want or I am missing something?   There are "Internet Explorer 8", "Internet Explorer 8 Compatibility Mode", and IE7 mode in IE8. However, the default setting in IE make all intranet website use "IE8 Compatibility Mode" even I have setted doctype, the meta tag, http header as suggested to force it into IE8 mode. I have <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd" and <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=8" But it still goes into "IE8 Compatibility Mode", without any changes in IE setting. How to force it into pure "IE8" mode, without change any browser's setting? PS. I am not talking "document mode" here.

  I have the following two lines in the head section in my masterpage: <link rel="shortcut icon" href="/Content/Images/favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon" /> <link rel="icon" href="/Content/Images/favicon.ico" type="image/ico" /> However, the favicon is not displayed in Internet Explorer (version 6, 7, 8). In Firefox and Safari the favicon works fine. I have even tried to replace href with the URL to my website (http://www......./Content/Images/favicon.ico) but that still does not work in Internet Explorer. Am I missing something?

  I'm working on an iPhone application that makes a few calls to web services. I posted this application on the Apple store but it got rejected (and rightly so) since there was no error message displayed to the user if no Internet connection is available. Since obviously the application would not work without it. So I just wanted to know how to best achieve this? I'm guessing something needs to go in the viewDidLoad method that will throw an alert box saying something like "You need an Internet connection to use this application". Any ideas would be appreciated.

• Chart Control Inside SSRS ReportViewer is Viewable From Localhost But Not Internet

  A project I own was just moved from an older server to a new one, and in the process of moving the web folder, re-deploying the SSRS reports, restoring the database, configuring IIS, etc... I have lost the ability to view the Microsoft Chart Controls that are embedded in the SSRS reports, that are then displayed by a Microsoft.ReportViewer. I could view them both locally and remotely (via the internet) on the old server. I can view them if I preview the SSRS report in Visual Studio. The report displays fine, only missing all the embedded charts. I can still view them locally through the web browser, just not from the internet. What am I missing? I tried giving permissions to the ChartImageHandler temp storage folder, but it didn't work. I'm getting the Javascript error: Error: ClientReport380ec8ca0c294a809e9986c1bef9db1c is undefined

  I am getting a weird error. I can see images in slideshow, lightbox, etc. in Firefox and Chrome but in Internet Explorer 8 there are no images. Something is wrong with JavaScript/jQuery I think. I am using jQuery 1.4.2, jquery.flow.1.2.min.js jquery.bgpos.js jquery.easing.1.3.js jquery.lightbox-0.5.min.js jquery.validate.js cufon-yui.js jquery.galleriffic.js DD_belatedPNG.js clearbox.js Please check this.
