• Problem Uninstalling Microsoft Internet Explorer

  On Windows Vista Home Premium (x64) I am trying to uninstall Microsoft Internet Explorer. The procedures explained all over the web involve going through the control panel to Programs and Features. If MSIE is listed there, then uninstall in the usual way. If it is not listed there, click Turn Windows features on and off and deactivate it there. But Internet Explorer is not listed in either place. Background: I initiated some process in MSIE a couple of months ago that caused all web pages to no longer save login information or remain logged in when requested. As you can tell from the way I described that, I don't remember what it was and have no way to simply reverse it. I had a few problems with .NET Framework as well. So, I've uninstalled all browsers except MSIE and uninstalled .NET Framework. I've reinstalled .NET Framework and all other browsers. I have not been able to uninstall MSIE. Have Tried: I tried installing over the existing installation, but auto-update must be keeping it nicely up to date. The attempt simply produced an information window telling me that my current version is more up-to-date than the new version I tried to install.

• Outlook pst problem

  I've used outlook pst files in the past with great success. a few weeks ago I exported about 2 years worth of email into a pst file. size is around 1.5 gb. when i try ti import that pst back into my outlook it says its not a pst file. I've tried to repair it using pstscan and it repairs errors and will even mount it in Outlook but Outlook cant see any emails, like its an empty pst file. Is there any other way to recover my emails besides loading up backupexec and recovering my mailbox before i made the pst?

• Problem reinstalling GRUB

  I have a PC that dual-boots Ubuntu and Windows Vista. I recently reinstalled Windows Vista after some problems and now the bootloader's gone. I've been trying to follow this Ubuntu community guide but it's not working. I have Grub Legacy according to the first part (I installed Ubuntu 9.04 originally then upgraded). From the 9.04 LiveCD, I ran this: sudo grub-install --root-directory=/media/disk /dev/sda5 sda5 is the Ubuntu partition. I get this output: grub-probe: error: Cannot open `/boot/grub/device.map` [: 494: =: unexpected operator Installing GRUB to /dev/sda5 as (hd0,4)... Installation finished.No errors reported. This is the contents...(etc) (hd0) /dev/sda In the bit below, when I run setup (hd0) I get an error, "Error 17: Cannot mount selected partition" Little help?

• Problem with Outlook 2010 (SMTP AUTH LOGIN)

  I have to connect one customer Outlook 2010 to a remote server on which I have either no right, neither way to talk to the sysadmin. This is the thing, after installing and reviewing the logs on Wireshark: Outlook Express: HELO machine AUTH LOGIN username base64 encoded password base64 encoded mails go through. Outlook 2010: HELO machine AUTH DIGEST-MD5 response from server Outlook sends just a * AUTH LOGIN password base64 encoded So... I can send mails in the same domain, but can't send outside, it gives me a relay denied message. My point is... Why the h**l Outlook 2010 doesn't send the username AND the password?! It can never login the right way :| With other versions of Outlook it works fine, and with OE works great, it auths and allows to send mail to a different domain. I've googled and nothing worked. I'm pretty sure that I'm not alone with this one. My last resort will be to configure a local proxy/server that relays to the original one :| Any help would be appreciated. • Wake on LAN Problem

  I'm working to get wake on lan (wol) working so that we can do some power management at my workplace. I've enabled WOL on a test laptop running Win 7 x64 and put it to sleep and hibernate both with no luck. I'm using a 3rd party utility and I've ran wireshark on the test laptop with it booted up and I can see the WOL packets coming in and the machine refuses to wake from sleep or hibernate. I thought maybe it was the computer I was using so I had another Win 7 x64 laptop nearby and I tried it, same scenario. We're in a cisco environment and I believe I gotten all the pieces in place since I'm seeing the WOL packets come through. I've tested two machines on the same subnet to eliminate the possibility of a misconfiguration on the switch, this also has the same behavior. The laptop models are a Compaq 6510b and 6730b. Is there something I'm missing? I'm trying this across UDP port 50200 since that's the port the actual management system will use after I get it working.

• Problem connecting to MySQL with zend

  I've set up a virtual host on my local machine (windows xp with xampp installed), have installed zend there and am now trying to connect to the MySQLdatabase. I get the following error message: Message: SQLSTATE[HY000] [2003] Can't connect to MySQL server on ''myhost.com'' (10060) All the tips I've found via google haven't helped. I use kaspersky antivirus and have added port 3306 to the allowed list for MySQL and Apache. I've also pinged myhost.com:3306 and get a response (with ip address 67.63.50.51), though localhost:3306 and 127.0.0.1:3306 aren't found. I've checked that other apps can still access MySQL if the virtual host is pointed at them instead and my non zend apps do work. I guess I have to do something further to the port, or maybe force the app to use a different port, but am not sure how to do either. Any help appreciated.

  When I use zsh in interactive mode, I get some glitches. This mainly happens when the command spills over onto a new line and I use backspace, with backspace leaving behind some glitches on the screen and moving the cursor to an odd position. It happens in a VT, in xterm and urxvt, although it is most noticeable with my chosen terminal, urxvt. When I use zsh as a login shell, it does not happen at all. What could be causing this?

• Problem with usb wireless mouse

  Recently I have started having problems with my wireless mouse (Wireless Optical Mouse MI-4910D). Sometimes when I start my PC or during a game the pointer/arrow stops moving. When the PC boots the pointer is locked in the center of the screen. If I'm lucky it helps to change the USB wireless adapter from port 1 to port 2 but sometimes this trick doesn't work and I have to restart my PC to get the mouse to work again. Like you can see in the product web page this mouse don't have a driver but only a tool to solve some problems.   I am trying to get my server to be able to send email from PHP. • AXFR problem using gradwell secondary DNS

  Hi All I use Gradwell.com to provide secondary DNS but I keep getting e-mails along the lines of the following saying that it's not working: You have asked us to provide a secondary DNS service for the following domain(s) Unfortunately, the primary DNS server(s) you specified are not permitting the necessary zone transfers from our servers, or they are not answering "SOA" queries for your domain correctly. I have gone through the support procedure and they weren't that helpful. They have suggested the following: Our secondline team have suggested setting the AXFR to use anouther machine. This will ensure that the transfer is not locked down to one machine and should allow any machine to make the request I don't really know what AFXR is and I only have 1 production machine so I can't set the AFXR to use another one! In previous support correspondence we confirmed that I am allowing transfers to the correct IP and that I have the correct ports open on the firewall. I am running Windows Server 2003. What can I do to try and get these zone transfers working? Thanks

• Problem booting hard drive after installing Centos from USB Stick

  Here is the situation, I created a Centos Live 5.4 Bootable USB drive. I used this to install Centos on a HP Netbook. BTW: the Netbook doesn't have a CDRom so I used the usb key. When the system goes to write the Grub boot loader to disk, it wants to write the boot loader to the usb drive (/dev/sda), not the hard disk (/dev/hda). I do have the option of writing the boot loader to /dev/hda, (not to the mbr!) but when I reboot I get an load error and the Grub prompt. How can I get Centos booting from the hard disk instead of using the USB key. Thanks.

  Dear all, I've some questions regarding basic routing, can't seem to relate to other questions posted in this site. My architecture: Windows 2008 server with 2 nics in the server. NIC1: IP 10.198.6.xxx, submask 255.255.252.0, gateway 10.198.4.xxx NIC2: IP 192.168.168.xxx, submask 255.255.255, no gateway defined both NICS are just connected to two separate switches, with other computers. I want to be able that all the requests that have a destination of 192.168.168.xxx are redirected to the NIC2, all the other to the NIC1. I know it's possible to do it with the route command, but normally we have to specify a gateway? (route ADD 192.168.168.0 MASK 255.255.255.0 ???) How can this be archived? • MacBook start up problem

  I have an aging, ailing MacBook. The battery died on it a few months ago, but can still use it when plugged in. I recently upgraded it to Snow Leopard. Had it unplugged for a few days. Went to boot it up today and now get this symptom: start up chime white screen with apple logo shuts off That's all it'll do. I tried unplugging and holding down the power button for 30 seconds but that didn't remedy the situation. Any theories? Finally an excuse to get the 27" iMac?

• Sound card problem, no audio device detected

  I bought a new sound card because my built in sound card did not function. When I open YouTube, Media Player or anything that can create a sound my computer will hang up and sometimes when I start my computer it will hang when the Windows XP sound will activate. Update: My computer has no audio. It says NO AUDIO DEVICE. I already installed Realtek AC97 and Realtek High Definition Audio Driver and I also pasted stream.dll to the Windows and system32 folders and I restarted my computer but it still says NO AUDIO DEVICE.   Pretty consistently when I'm watching a long DIVX movie in the browser on Karmic - say 2 hours or so - the mplayer-mozilla player stops after a half-hour or an hour and resets back to 0, so I have to reload the whole movie again over the web. It happens repeatedly so I never get past the half-way point in the DIVX version of the movie - I have to watch a flash version instead. I don't know if this is an mplayer issue or a Firefox memory issue. Anyone have any idea how to resolve this?

• Server 2003 Functional Domain DFS Replication Problem (Files being moved to conflicted folder for no reason)

  We have 2 Windows 2003 servers configured with a DFS namespace and we are running into problems with the redirected profiles we have setup. Basically, one server is the FSMO master for all roles, and we have another DC that is the DFS namespace primary server. We have profile redirection setup using the \dfsnamespace\userprofile formula. The FSMO master DC locks up occasionally (don't ask :), and when it does, and we bring it back up... All of the user profiles hosted on the DFS namespace get overwritten when a user logs in. The current profile gets moved to the conflicting and deleted items folder. This strikes me as really odd considering the whole point of using DFS was to provide some redundancy in case one server went down. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance! -Nate

  I am using mobile dial up on ubuntu. However, SOMETIMES even though I am connected to the ISP, I do not have any entries in /etc/resolv.conf. I often restart network-manager or networking hoping it will change but normally it doesn't do any good. and by connected I mean I can see that the network notification icon has switched to a few bars indicating connectivity).   Hey i have a interesting network setup on a laptop here and for some reason the internet isnt working. I am connected to a secure network via wireless router and taskbar says i am connected and with good signal strength but in my internet browser i cant connect to any websites, the error is: This webpage is not available. (Chrome) I am using Chrome, but websites dont work on IE either. Heres a little background on the setup i have. I have a Ethernet connected to the laptop with a static ip, and then i have the wireless setup with DHCP enabled. I am using the ethernet to connect to the network (for remote desktop) but the wireless for internet (to avoid the network firewalls). this set up has worked fine for a few months, but i cant figure out what is going on now. Might be worth it to note it is a Lenovo Thinkpad and i just uninstalled ThinkVantage Access Connections (as it was giving me ample problems prior to this one, which i consider a step up) Tried repairing connection as well, let me know if you guys have any ideas please! EDIT: Solved-Dead Modem in the server room.... Sorry guys didn't have access to that myself

  Hi, I'm trying to add some code in a presentation made with LaTex. I used beamer, added some frames without problems but once I add the listing, I can't compile the presentation anymore. \begin{frame}{Code} \begin{lstlisting} Sample Code \end{lstlisting} \end{frame} The error I pdflatex gave me is: Package Listings Warning: Text dropped after begin of listing on input line 80.
