• GeoToolkit Demo Embedded in an Application Framework via Maven

  As a follow on to yesterday's blog entry, here's the equivalent starter application for GeoToolkit (also known as Geotk) on the NetBeans Platform, which ends up looking like this: The above is a border.shp file I found on-line, while here's a USA states shape file rendered in the application: Note that the navigation bar is also included, though that could later be migrated into the menu bar of the NetBeans Platform.  Download the Maven based NetBeans Platform application with GeoToolkit integration here: http://java.net/projects/nb-api-samples/sources/api-samples/show/versions/7.3/tutorials/geospatial/geotoolkit/MyGeospatialSystem It was quite tricky getting this sample together, parts of it, especially the installer, which creates the database, comes from the Puzzle GIS project, while the files come from on-line locations, with the JAI-related dependencies providing problems of their own. • Text box select issue

  I have this issue where the entire text in text boxes is selected whilst I'm typing in it. For example, in FireFox search box I'd try to type "foo" but end up with "o" because I managed to type "fo" before everything was selected, and then typed "o" which replaced the "fo". When it happens, it is incessant - not just a one-off. But it doesn't happen all the time, and I haven't managed to figure out what causes it to start and stop. Is this a known problem with an easy solution? EDIT: this has nothing to do with touchpad. I get this occasionally even on a machine without one. I can usually rectify the issue just be alt-tabbing about a few times.

  I finally did the work necessary to improve the codegen for finally handlers. More improvements are still possible, but at least most finally handlers will now execute without touching the exception object (and hence without having to do any mapping/stack trace collection work). • Oracle Communications Calendar Server: Upgrading to Version 7 Update 3

  It's been some time since I have posted an entry. Now, with the release of Oracle Communications Calendar Server 7 Update 3, it seems high time to jump start this blog again. To begin with, check out what's new in this release: Authenticating Against an External Directory Booking Window for Calendars Changes to the davadmin Command Enable and Disable Account Autocreation LDAP Pools New Configuration Parameters New Languages New populate-davuniqueid Utility New Schema Objects Non-active Calendar Accounts Are No Longer Searched or Fetched Remote Document Store Authentication The upgrade is a bit more complicated than normal, as you must first apply some new schema elements to your Directory Server(s). To do so, you need to get the comm_dssetup 6.4 patch, patch the comm_dssetup script, and then run the patched comm_dssetup against your Directory Server(s) instances. In addition, if you are using the nsUniqueId attribute as your deployment's unique identifier, you'll want to change that to the new davUniqueId attribute. Consult the Upgrade Procedure for details, as well as DaBrain's blog, before forging ahead with this upgrade.   Now that the Q1 2010 release is here, I want to bring your attention to a cool new feature in our RadCaptcha control for ASP.NET AJAX - audio support. Head on over to our online demos to see the feature in action. Enabling this on an existing CAPTCHA is easy - you just need to set the CaptchaImage-EnableCaptchaAudio property to true. • Is it possible that Unity would some day switch back to Mutter?

  I remembered that the first Unity was indeed built on Mutter, but later ported to Compiz due to poor performance. I also know Canonical practically incorporated Compiz to work closely for future Unity, so this is getting less likely. But Compiz just seems pretty outdated now that GNOME3/GTK3/Mutter is becoming more mainstreamed, and it is known to deliver some performance issue, but on the other hand Mutter seems pretty good and is still steadily developing now, I'm just wondering if anyone related to the project is still testing and evaluating the possibility of Unity on Mutter? Not that you have to tell me now if you're going to do it or not. I just wanna know if anyone is considering it. Thanks.
