  Hey all, i have a windows 2008 Web Edition R2 VPS and i seem to be having problems with it pointing to my domain name. I get this error when i visit my web address: Server Error 500 - Internal server error. There is a problem with the resource you are looking for, and it cannot be displayed. I'm sure theres a configuration problem somewhere but i am currently unable to find it. And i'm also new at the windows server so any step-by-step help would be greatly appreciated! David

• PHP FastCGI HTTP Error 500 on Windows 7

  I've just installed PHP (5.3.1) and MySQL (5.1.44) on my development machine. Then I used the Web Platform Installer to install a copy of Joomla and Drupal. However, when I tried to browse either site application, I get a HTTP Error 500: Module FastCgiModule Notification ExecuteRequestHandler Handler PHP_via_FastCGI Error Code 0x00000000 Requested URL http://localhost:808/drupal/index.php Physical Path D:\Projects\drupal\index.php Logon Method Anonymous Logon User Anonymous PHPInfo.php reports that FastCGI is configured (not sure if that is significant). Sure the fact that PHPInfo.php reports anything is perhaps an indication that PHP itself is working...? I'm struggling to know where to look for a solution... Each application appears to be configure similarly to my other [ASP/ASP.NET] applications.

• mod_jk fails to detect error state because JBoss gives 404, not 500

  Configuration: Apache + mod_jk, several workers on other machines (load balancing). When JBoss fails to deploy an application for example because of failed connection to the database, requests to /myapp/somepage generate 404. How do I configure JBoss to return 500 for everything under /myapp when the application failed to deploy? Additional info: Since 404 is not an "error state" code, mod_jk does not mark the worker as failed and continues to route the traffic there. Since there might be valid requests to this application also generating 404, I can not configure mod_jk to treat 404 as an "error state"

  I have set up a couple of Avaya IP Office systems over the course of my current job. I have a pretty good handle on the process, but now I am faced with something I have not done before. Both the IP office systems I have set up used all Digital phones. The new system we are putting in place will actually use IP phones for the first time. After tyring to track down some general documentation on my own, I was not able to find anything that left me feeling comfortable about setting up IP phones on an Avaya IP Office 500. Does anyone know of any good how-To's for setting up IP phones on IP Office? I get the impression its pretty simple but learend enough about Avaya to know that there are some tricky aspects to setting them up

• Designing status management for a file processing module

  The background One of the functionality of a product that I am currently working on is to process a set of compressed files ( containing XML files ) that will be made available at a fixed location periodically (local or remote location - doesn't really matter for now) and dump the contents of each XML file in a database. I have taken care of the design for a generic parsing module that should be able to accommodate the parsing of any file type as I have explained in my question linked below. There is no need to take a look at the following link to answer my question but it would definitely provide a better context to the problem Generic file parser design in Java using the Strategy pattern The Goal I want to be able to keep a track of the status of each XML file and the status of each compressed file containing the XML files. I can probably have different statuses defined for the XML files such as NEW, PROCESSING, LOADING, COMPLETE or FAILED. I can derive the status of a compressed file based on the status of the XML files within the compressed file. e.g status of the compressed file is COMPLETE if no XML file inside the compressed file is in a FAILED state or status of the compressed file is FAILED if the status of at-least one XML file inside the compressed file is FAILED. A possible solution The Model I need to maintain the status of each XML file and the compressed file. I will have to define some POJOs for holding the information about an XML file as shown below.   Hi, I have and old content database which i restored in my sharepoint 2007. But whenver i try to access web sites in my sharepoint i get error : 500 INTERNAL SERVER ERROR. I can see the old content database at :- Sharepoint Centre Admin-Application Management-Content databases. There is no difference in the version of the old content database.   I upgraded my development machine to 64-bit Win7, and now when I try to connect to a local ASP.Net project I get: HTTP Error 500 ... Calling LoadLibraryEx on ISAPI filter "C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\aspnet_filter.dll" failed There are several puzzling things about this; the ASP.Net project was a .Net 2.0 ASMX so it was using C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727. If it updated to x64 without asking me, should it not use C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v2.0.50727\? Where is C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\ coming from? I opened IIS Manager and the selected .Net Framework version for my machine is 2.0.50727. Framework version for my default application pool is the same. I am developing in VS2008, which does not even have an option for targeting .Net 4.0.

• 500 Internal Server Error after moving Joomla installation to new environment

  (This is the first time I moved the website so please don't be hard on me.) After moving the website, the homepage shows up properly but other pages do not. I get 500 Internal Server Error on all other pages. Before moving, the Search Engine Friendly URLs and Use URL rewriting were enabled in the Joomla Dashboard. Is this the reason the other pages are not showing up? If so, how do I fix this? I think the homepage shows up because the url myWebsite.com redirects to myWebsite.com/index.php automatically. Note that I have transferred all of the Joomla the files through Filezilla and imported the MySQL database properly and also edited the configuration.php as set the proper settings for the database.

• ASP Fails with 500 Error

  We have a server setup as an IIS box and have some static pages with a few asp pages that handle the form submissions. The asp is really vbscript that sends a CDO message. When moving these pages to the new server the form will not submit, it gives a 500 error and the following shows in Event Viewer: Error: The Template Persistent Cache initialization failed for Application Pool 'DefaultAppPool' because of the following error: Could not create a Disk Cache Sub-directory for the Application Pool. The data may have additional error codes.. I can't seem to find any info on this anywhere... I was thinking it may have something to do with the fact that we created this server from an image of another server. Thanks for your help in advance... Vince

  I am trying to run a long php process and it ends with the 500 internal server error. It executes fine for about 8 mins. I have rebooted the machine after changing the php settings. PHP Config: max_execution_time: 3600 After around 10 mins ps ax|grep php: 19007 ? S 0:08 /usr/bin/php /home/gypsy/public_html/index.php I have set the ignore_user_abort true. The process gets stuck at 00:08 min and isn't executed further. Apache error log shows the error: Script timed out before returning headers: index.php It seems somehow the max_execution_time isn't working. Any suggestion would be a great help.

  I'm trying to create something similar to the diggbar : http://digg.com/http://cnn.com I'm using Visual Studio 2010 and Asp Development server. However, I can't get the ASP dev server to handle the request because it contains "http:" in the path. I've tried to create an HTTPModule to rewrite the URL in the BeginRequest , but the event handler doesn't get called when the url is http://localhost:5957/http://yahoo.com. The event handler does get called if the url is http://localhost:5957/http/yahoo.com To summarize http://localhost:5957/http/yahoo.com works http://localhost:5957/http//yahoo.com does not work http://localhost:5957/http://yahoo.com does not work http://localhost:5957/http:/yahoo.com does not work Any ideas?

• Proper use of HTTP status codes in a "validation" server

  Among the data my application sends to a third-party SOA server are complex XMLs. The server owner does provide the XML schemas (.xsd) and, since the server rejects invalid XMLs with a meaningless message, I need to validate them locally before sending. I could use a stand-alone XML schema validator but they are slow, mainly because of the time required to parse the schema files. So I wrote my own schema validator (in Java, if that matters) in the form of an HTTP Server which caches the already parsed schemas. The problem is: many things can go wrong in the course of the validation process. Other than unexpected exceptions and successful validation: the server may not find the schema file specified the file specified may not be a valid schema file the XML is invalid against the schema file Since it's an HTTP Server I'd like to provide the client with meaningful status codes. Should the server answer with a 400 error (Bad request) for all the above cases? Or they have nothing to do with HTTP and it should answer 200 with a message in the body? Any other suggestion? Update: the main application is written in Ruby, which doesn't have a good xml schema validation library, so a separate validation server is not over-engineering.

• HTTP 500 Internal Server Error on IIS 7.5 with MVC3

  I am trying to install an MVC3 application on our production server with no luck. The application is from a 3rd party (compiled), and so debugging is not available to me. Besides, I strongly suspect the error occurs before any code in the site has a chance to execute. Our staging server is - as far as I can determine - set up excactly like the production server. Both run Windows Server 2008 Standard R2, both also run a Sharepoint 2010 site (though this install doesn't touch that in any way). IIS is version 7.5, and .NET Framework 4.0 (required by the MVC app) is (recently) installed (by me, with a reboot after). The application is very small and simple and, as far as I can tell sticks to fairly standard functionality - including forms authentication (ie. it doesnt' pull any dirty tricks). The error message shown in the browser is very general: HTTP Error 500.0 - Internal Server Error An error message detailing the cause of this specific request failure can be found in the application event log of the web server. Please review this log entry to discover what caused this error to occur. The bit about 'An error message detailing the cause' being in the application event log seems to be just speculation - a pious hope that whatever code actually caused the error will log it. Nothing useful is to be found in the event log (only the very same message, logged by IIS). (0x80070002) So there you have it. Seemingly, the AspNetInitClrHostFailureModule fails to find some file. So some questions are: What is the AspNetInitClrHostFailureModule? It is not listed in the fairly exhausting list of modules configurable in IIS manager for the site. I have had no success googling it either. Maybe it's secret.. I access the root URL of the site. This is supposed to be redirected to /Account/LogOn by the FormsAuthenticationModule. Why then is the handler StaticFile? Is that a clue? I have tried removing the infamous system.webserver/modules/runAllManagedModulesForAllRequests attribute, and that makes the error go away (but MVC not actually working, of course). I am prepared to specify all necessary modules manually if that's what it takes, but if the AspNetInitClrHostFailureModule is actually needed, I will be just as stuck. Does anyone know, or can anyone direct me to someone who knows, exactly what modules a typical MVC3 application actually needs? This question might well be a duplicate of this one, but he didn't get any useful answer, and also asked less specific questions. So I'll have my own go. Hoping for some help here :) Edit: I have now tried setting up a trivial MVC 3 project on the server. I created a new project using the MVC Application template, compiled it and deployed it to the server. It behaves in exactly the same way. The server simply cannot run MVC 3 projects.

• How to find and fix issue with Pound and HAProxy

  Pound sits in front of HAProxy (on the same box) to perform SSL off-load. Requests are passed to 127.0.0.1:80 where HAProxy then balances the requests across backend servers for a hosted ASP .NET web app. A user is getting HTTP error 500 (Internal Server Error) returned to their browser this morning and I can see it is comming from Pound. They see no log entry in their web app (IIS) server logs, so its not hitting the back end servers. I think the problem is possibly with HAProxy. • Is it normal needing time to understand code i wrote recently

  By recently i mean some weeks ago. I am trying to continue a project i left 2 weeks ago and i need time to understand some functions i wrote(not copied from somewhere) and it takes me time. Normally i don't need to because my functions,methods etc are black boxes but when i need to change something it's really hard. Does this mean i write bad code? I am still in school and i am the only who writes/uses the code so i don't have feedback, but i am afraid that if it is difficult for me to understand it, it would be 10 times more difficult for someone else. What should i do? I write a lot of comments but most of the time are useless when reviewing. Do you have any suggestions?

• Adding complexity to remove duplicate code

  I have several classes that all inherit from a generic base class. The base class contains a collection of several objects of type T. Each child class needs to be able to calculate interpolated values from the collection of objects, but since the child classes use different types, the calculation varies a tiny bit from class to class. So far I have copy/pasted my code from class to class and made minor modifications to each. But now I am trying to remove the duplicated code and replace it with one generic interpolation method in my base class. However that is proving to be very difficult, and all the solutions I have thought of seem way too complex. I am starting to think the DRY principle does not apply as much in this kind of situation, but that sounds like blasphemy. How much complexity is too much when trying to remove code duplication?   Hi, I have a website running at www.domain.com. The client now wants the website to appear to be running under www.otherdomain.com/whatson/brand/ Since the website is umbraco it won't run under a subfolder. I wanted to use ISAPI rewrite to proxy requests to www.domain.com using the following rule in a .htaccess at www.otherdomain.com/whatson/brand/ RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.domain.com/$1 [P,L] However, when I apply this I get an ugly 500 Internal Server Error. There's nothing in the event log.
