  • Lost data after removing USB stick...

    I foolishly removed my USB stick from a Windows XP machine seemingly without unmounting it (or whatever the Window equivalent is..). Anyway, on inserting the stick into my linux machine, the file I was working on shows up, but it is completely empty (0KB). Since I'm pretty much a Windows novice these days, I'd like to know if there is any temporary location where I will still be able to find this file, or is it now lost permanently?

    Hello, I have some specific folders that I grant members of my team permissions to. So I'll share a specific folder and add them as permissions. But after they are done I usually remove them from the list of permitted users. I was wondering if it's possible to setup a bat file to achieve this, to make my life easier. I was wondering if WMI or powershell has those kinds of capabilities. Just curious. Thanks.

  • Removing all traces of GNU java and openjdk and replacing with Sun JDK

    I have installed latest Sun JDk. But when I do: java -version I still got OpenJDK version. So I completely removed OpenJDK. But now when I do: java -version I get even older GNU java 1.5 something libgcj. So I completely removed that too but it was asking to remove bunch of dependent apps like OpenOffice.org Writer etc. Even though I need the writer, I let it go because I do not want ever to see the face of any GNU java on my linux. So everything related to GNU java is removed. Luckily I am able to start Eclipse and it works fine and start normally (apparently using the installed Sun JDK which is what I want). But now when I run java -version I get bash: /usr/bin/java: No such file or directory Now what I need to do so that when I open any terminal window and enter java -version I should get Sun JDK version? Sun JDK is installed in /usr/java/jdk1.6.021. I also have symlinks: /usr/java/latest and /usr/java/defaults pointing to sun jdk.

    I'm trying to remove the Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Tools for Office Runtime (x64). It says it's uninstalled when I try to remove it from Control Panel->Programs and Features, but the list item is still there, and if I try to remove it again, it brings up the prompt to install it. How do I get rid of this program completely (or at least remove it from the add/remove list)? I don't have Microsoft Office installed (or Visual Studio).

    First, some background: I'm trying to install an HP OfficeJet 6500. I've got the printer setup on my network fine, but the driver software installation on Windows XP (SP3) is a PITA. The installation program keeps dying with the following error: Product: Network -- Error 1324. The folder path 'WD Sync Data' contains an invalid character. WD Sync Data is a program on external Western Digital harddrives, which I used to use on this computer, but no external drive is current mounted. I've searched my registry for those keywords, but haven't found anything. I also ran CCleaner on the registry just to make sure, but no loose ends detected there, either. There are a number of Google results for the error, but no solutions. One post pointed me to the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility, but this utility doesn't even run - it dies with the same error before even starting. Any thoughts on where I could look to clean up this invalid character so I can get the HP installation wizard to successfully run? Many thanks in advance!

    Can't figure this one out. When you connect to a wireless network (like an ad-hoc), it'll create a networkname 1 connection. After something changes, it makes a networkname 2 connection. And this goes on and on. Now I'm at connection ~23, at the home connection I'm at ~2 and ~5. Is there a way to clean these out? Couldn't find where Win stores such profiles.

    A while back I set my computer up to sync folders on a shared network drive. I didn't choose my folders carefully and ended up with a huge amount of files to sync, which took forever. I would like to stop sync on those folders, then later select some smaller subfolders to sync. I believe this means I first must delete the existing sync partnerships, but there is no "Delete" option when I list them in Sync Center. How can I delete existing sync partnerships?

  • Removing extra commas in CSV without another data source

    We have a large database with customer addresses that was exported from an SQL database to CSV. In the event that a company has a comma in their name, it (predictably) throws the whole database out of whack. Unfortunately, there are so many instances of this (and commas in the second address line) that the whole CSV (~100k rows) is a huge mess. The obvious fix is to export the data again in a different, non comma reliant format, but access to that SQL database is more or less impossible at the moment... I've tried a few tools and brainstormed about combining things to fix this, but I figured asking couldn't hurt. Thanks!

    My database tables have prefixes on them and when the DataModel generates the EntityObjects they have the prefixes at the beginning of the class name. Is there anyway that I can have those prefixes ignored when the DataModel is updating/creating the classes? Problem is that in Applet I have something say: sql=select * from p where(+p=1) The resulting sql parameter in the Servlet is sql=select * from p where(+p=1). So anyone knows how to prevent the browser from removing the + character from parameters? Is there a escape character? Thank you.

    How to remove traces of files marked as OFFLINE or DEFUNCT in Microsoft SQL server 2008? I have been playing around with a setup where I create a database with 3 file-groups which are: Primary, FileGroupData and FileGroupIndex. The clustered index is using FileGroupData and a non-clustered index is set to use FileGroupIndex. To simulate a disk failure I've shut down SQL server and manually deleted the files in index file-group. To start the database I'll mark the files 'OFFLINE', but after that I can't delete the index files, which are now offline. I don't have backup of the files as they are merely indices, but that has the implication that I can't restore the files and have their status as "ONLINE". How would you recommend removing the files and the file-group as they still show up in management studio under files/file-groups. Management studio is not able to delete them.     I traverse a 16x16 maze using my own A* implementation. This is exactly what my program does: http://www.screenjelly.com/watch/fDQh98zMP0c?showTab=share All is well. However, after the traversal, I would like to find out what wall would give me the best alternative path. Apart from removing every block and re-running A* on the maze, what's a clever solution? I was thinking give every wall node (ignored by A*), a tentative F-value, and change the node structure to also have a n-sized list of node *tentative_parent where n is the number of walls in the maze. Could this be viable?
