• After connecting wlan0 to bridge interface (and then removing it), can't connect to AP

  I'm on a laptop running Debian Jessie with kernel 3.13-1-amd64; lspci shows that my wireless NIC + driver is 04:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation Wireless 3160 (rev 83) Subsystem: Intel Corporation Dual Band Wireless-AC 3160 Kernel driver in use: iwlwifi This has been working without any problems, until I tried creating a bridge for lxc containers to use. I did the same thing as this person here: How-to set up a network bridge on a laptop for LXC use? -- and ended up having the same problem as this poster did, so I decided to "undo" my actions. This hasn't been successful. I've tried various fixes: iwconfig wlan0 power off killing wpa_supplicant connecting with iwconfig + dhclient instead of gnome's network -manager explicitly configuring wlan0 in /etc/network/interfaces creating a /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf file ...but nothing seems to work. I'm not sure what I did wrong, or what step I've skipped in trying to get wlan0 back as a non-bridged device -- I removed it from the bridge and then deleted the bridge itself. Any ideas?

  I'm running sites on two Cpanel accounts on my VPS on WHM. I'm using DSO php handler and Apache server on my Web server. After recent intrusion attacks I've chowned to root with permission 555 on $HOME and public_html folder. I'm on VPS with Cpanel on Centos. I'm running CMS based software like Joomla Drupal etc. Will this cause any problem to my VPS installation or server side processes? Drupal, Joomla, MyBB etc will not be affected by this. Some files will not be created like error_log. At least hackers will not be able to place any malicious code within home folder or the public_html folder.

• Removing extended partition without deleting logical in it

  I'm running a Linux-based laptop, and in order to multi-boot several distros in it, I created an extended partition which contains a bunch of logical ones with GParted. Now, after quite a long time with this setup, I've changed my mind because of the consequent lack of storing space for my data partition. Now I want to keep one distro alone like it's normal, and eventually have some other operating systems stored in external supports to plug in and use if I want. Obviously, also this partition I want to keep (and to enlarge a little too) is just a logical inside the extended I want to keep. For what concerns the number I'm ok, meaning I currently have this big distro dedicated extended, the swap and the data partitions, so there's space for another primary before I delete the extended, but I don't know how to delete it without touching the logical in it, I don't want to reinstall the system losing all changes and settings, and I don't want to keep an extended partition for a logical alone. How can I do? Do I have to create a new primary, copy the logical content in it and then delete everything? Will the system boot and maintain exactly all the features it has now? Or is there a way to convert an extended into a primary once it contains just one logical? Or can I directly move a logical out of an extended turning it into a primary? Or, again, am I screwed?

  Hello, I recently tried to fix up my mother's computer which has some serious malwares. One of them apparently registered itself as system driver (tjbijkoq.sys if that can help) and after running a malware suppression tool, the computer won't boot anymore, complaining about a "critical driver that is missing". I think deleting the matching entry in the registry would just solve the problem, but obviously I can't boot up the computer (even in safe mode) to fix it.   I have an application in one of my application pools that has a virtual path of '/Site/login.aspx'. I want to remove it but it no longer exists on my computer and it's causing me issues setting up AppFabric. I understand that you can remove these phantom applications by recreating the application in IIS and then hitting Remove. That will get rid of the application from the pool but in this case I can't recreate the application due to the /login.aspx in the virtual path Any ideas how I remove this erroneous entry? Thanks

  Somehow I ended up with a file named "-r". How do I remove it? rm -r doesn't work. I tried 'rm -i `ls -a`' to step through the file names, but it didn't prompt me to delete this one. Edit A very hacky approach was to use python's os.unlink function. That worked, but I'm curious to hear other ways.

  So i have a computer that has 2 hard drives and i installed Ubuntu server on it. I used LVM to connect the two. So i tried to put windows back on it but it failed because it said it couldn't position the drive and then when i booted again the OS couldn't be found. So i booted it with the Ubuntu setup disc but now when it goes to partition it says that the position can not be modified because its already in use. I am asking if there is a way i can just remove everything and start fresh?

• Removing Paths/ Landing Pages From SharePoint Search Results

  Hi there, We've been asked by a client to remove a number of pages from being shown up in their public website search results page. I've been into the SSP and created Crawl Rules to remove these pages. All seemed to have worked ok but we have an issue in that landing pages are still showing up in their "www.domain.com/sitearea/" form but not in their "www.domain.com/sitearea/pages/default.aspx". For each of this type of page we have created one rule to "Exclude" the "aspx" path and another rule to include the "/" path but to "Follow links on the URL without crawling the URL itself". We tried adding rules to exclude the "/" format but that only resulted in all results underneath that being excluded. Does anybody know how to remove the "area/pages/default.aspx" and the "area/" pats from Search Results? I'm not sure if it's the "done thing" to ask 2 questions in one but this is in a similar vein so it should be ok. I was wondering if anyone knew of a tool (or if it is possible) to allow site admins to exclude pages from search results (not via SSP/Crawl Rules). I know they can do it at the site level but I was wondering if anything out there enabled this to be done at the page level through either Page or Site Settings?

• Laptop screen turns off on removing power cord

  After a recent upgrade to Windows 8.1 Pro from W8, my laptop's screen turns off as soon as you remove the power cord. It turns back on with no issues when you plug the power back in. Keyboard and mouse input is processed while the screen is off. My settings tell the screen to go off after 2 minutes of inactivity on battery. I was having a battery issue from before where my laptop would should down after 5 minutes of running on battery (despite showing 60% left), but I think that's unrelated. Any other info will be provided on request. Can anyone help me figure out what's going on? How can I stop this behaviour?

  I have two external harddrives which I'm using for archiving purposes, because of that they are turned off most of the time. I have some shortcuts on the desktop to some directories on these external harddisks. Windows occasionally removes these desktop shortcuts. It happens when the harddisks are turned off.   In order to increase space in my c drive, I had to delete all my volumes and create again allocating more space to C which I did, after which my drive name G didn't exist. Before this I used to install all my softwares in G. Now since the drive does not exist, I want to remove all info about the softwares I installed in G as they got deleted when volume got deleted. I also want to install cilk++ but it gives me an error-invalid drive g:. If I insert pendrives so I get a volume named G, cilk++ installer runs but says that it will be integrated to visual studio 2008 which i previously had in G drive(but no longer exists) and doesn't show visual studio 2010 which i recently installed in C drive. I did both things, but now every time I start my computer, the Found New Hardware wizard pops up for the following three devices: PCI Device SM Bus Controller Other PCI Bridge Device Furthermore, my LAN port no longer functions. The cable's connected, and the light on the port comes on, but the computer can't find any servers when I attempt to connect with it. The modem and router are working, and obviously I'm able to use the other computer here to post this. What do I do to fix this?

• Virtual Host Configuration and mod_rewrite - Removing PHP Extension and Adding Forward Slash

  On my production server, things are fine: PHP extension removal and trailing slash rules are in place in my .htaccess file. But locally, this isn't working (well, partially, anyway). I'm running Apache2 with a virtual host for the site in question. I decided to not use the .htaccess file in this case and just add the rules to the httpd-vhosts.conf file instead, which, I've heard, if possible on your server, is a better way to go. • Removing expired self-signed certificate in IE9 (created with IIS7.5)

  Over 1 year ago, I created a self-signed certificate in IIS 7.5 and exported it. I then installed it for IE9 (it may have been IE8 at the time), which worked fine until a year later when the certificate expired. I have put this off, but today I created a new self-signed certificate in IIS, exported it, and attempted to install it in IE9. The problem is that for whatever reason, IE cannot seem to forget about the old, expired certificate. Here's what I tried initially: Accessed my ASP.NET application and see the Certificate error. Clicked "View certificates". Clicked "Install Certificate" and then Next/Next/Finish. At this point, it says the import is successful, but it still only shows the expired certificate. I've tried simply double-clicking on the exported certificate on my desktop. Initially I chose to automatically select the certificate store, but then I tried it again and manually selected "Trusted Root Certification Authorities". I've also tried dragging/dropping the certificate over an IE window and clicking "Open". The process is then exactly the same as it is if I had double-clicked on the certificate, but I had hoped that this would somehow specifically tell IE to use this certificate. I tried opening MMC and with the Certificate snap-in, confirmed that the new certificate was added under "Trusted Root Certification Authorities". It was also under my "Personal" certificates (I guess this is where it goes by default). Nothing worked, so I went through every folder in MMC and deleted the expired certificate. I also deleted the expired certificate in IIS. Nothing has worked. Any ideas? I see no clear resolution and I can't seem to find any posts related to this issue.

I would like this to be for all domains, so i am doing inside httpd.conf directory directive. I tried many variations with no success.   After a memory error in my program, I am stuck with a file with a strange filename. It's proving quite resistant to all normal methods to remove files with strange names. Even the ls -i. I couldn't find anymore options, so before reformatting or repairing my filesystem (fsck might help) I thought maybe there is something I missed. • How to prevent MediaWiki removing non default signatures?

  We recently upgraded MediaWiki from 1.13.2 to 1.15.4. One of the side effects is that people's signatures are automatically deleted. That is, a signature added under MY PREFERENCES gets changed to match the Real Name field after a couple of minutes. We set $wgCleanSignatures = false in LocalSettings.php but this does not change the behaviour. Does anyone know what is going on and how to prevent this?
