• how to generate XML (in String representation) in java

  I have defined a java class, but only need to output some of the fields of this class into an XML. The returned type must be a String. I first opted for the easiest way using a StringBuffer. However, when I tried to process the output String represenation, it failed. I think it is mostly likely because there are some characters that are not encoded in the UTF-8 in the input. Could someone tell me what is the best way to handle this? Thanks.

I need a very quick way to count the number of each type of element, (List and Note). Lists is simply the root and doesn't matter. I can do this with a simple string search or something similar, but I need to make this as fast as possible. Design Parameters: Must be in java (Android application). Must AVOID allocating memory as much as possible. Must return the total number of Note elements and the number of List elements in the file, regardless of location in file. Number of Lists will typically be small (1-4), and number of notes can potentially be very large (upwards of 1000, typically 100) per file. I look forward to your suggestions.

  I have an existing class (I didn't write) that implements IXmlSerializable. I decided to create a WCF service so my Silverlight application could access this class. I return the class as List. In the generated proxy, instead of an ObservableCollection like I'm expecting, I get ArrayOfXElement[]. If I remove the IXmlSerializable attribute, I get an the ObservableCollection. I don't quite understand what is happening, but I just want my SL app to receive an ObservableCollection. Is my only choice to create a DTO class and send back a list of those? Any advice?

  Please consider the following Amount value type property which is marked as a nullable XmlElement: [XmlElement(IsNullable=true)] public double? Amount { get ; set ; } When a nullable value type is set to null, the C# XmlSerializer result looks like the following: <amount xsi:nil="true" /> Rather than emitting this element, I would like the XmlSerializer to suppress the element completely. Why? We're using Authorize.NET for online payments and Authorize.NET rejects the request if this null element exists. The current solution/workaround is to not serialize the Amount value type property at all. Instead we have created a complementary property, SerializableAmount, which is based on Amount and is serialized instead. Since SerializableAmount is of type String, which like reference types are suppressed by the XmlSerializer if null by default, everything works great. /// <summary> /// Gets or sets the amount. /// </summary> [XmlIgnore] public double? • Visual C#, Large Arrays, and LOH Fragmentation. What is the accepted convention?

  I have an other active question HERE regarding some hopeless memory issues that possibly involve LOH Fragmentation among possibly other unknowns. What my question now is, what is the accepted way of doing things? If my app needs to be done in Visual C#, and needs to deal with large arrays to the tune of int[4000000], how can I not be doomed by the garbage collector's refusal to deal with the LOH? It would seem that I am forced to make any large arrays global, and never use the word "new" around any of them. So, I'm left with ungraceful global arrays with "maxindex" variables instead of neatly sized arrays that get passed around by functions. I've always been told that this was bad practice. What alternative is there? Is there some kind of function to the tune of System.GC.CollectLOH("Seriously") ? Are there possibly some way to outsource garbage collection to something other than System.GC? Anyway, what are the generally accepted rules for dealing with large (85Kb) variables?

The issue is that filters are not processed for files under a certain directory. • Proper way to implement IXmlSerializable?

  Once a programmer decides to implement IXmlSerializable, what are the rules and best practices for implementing it? I've heard that GetSchema() should return null and ReadXml should move to the next element before returning. Are these true? And what about WriteXml: should it write a root element for the object or is it assumed that the root is already written? How should child objects be treated and written. Here's a sample of what I have now.   I have two documents that I need to merge, that happen in a way that I don't seem to be able to find covered in other examples. Namely, that it needs to match not only on a node's attribute at one level, but also on the value of an attribute a node level below that, to get that node's value.   Hi All, I need a bit of WCF help. This project uses message contracts. The transport seems to work ok. I have this code for a response type. namespace tpoke.Contracts { [MessageContract(IsWrapped = true)] public class AuthenticationResponseMC { [MessageBodyMember(Name = "authentication-token")] public Guid AuthenticationToken; } } Now when I run the operation that returns this, I try to deserialize using the XmlSerializer. The is not what I'm needing. I need it to be <authentication-token xmlns="http://tpoke.wcf.com">e13xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxx</authentication-token> How can I make this work correctly? • Reading Xml with XmlReader in C#

  I'm trying to read the following Xml document as fast as I can and let additional classes manage the reading of each sub block. <ApplicationPool><Accounts><Account><NameOfKin></NameOfKin><StatementsAvailable><Statement></Statement></StatementsAvailable></Account></Accounts></ApplicationPool> I can't seem to format the above nicely :( However, I'm trying to use the XmlReader object to read each Account and subsequently the "StatementsAvailable". Do you suggest using XmlReader.Read and check each element and handle it? I've thought of seperating my classes to handle each node properly. So theres an AccountBase class that accepts a XmlReader instance that reads the NameOfKin and several other properties about the account. Then I was wanting to interate through the Statements and let another class fill itself out about the Statement (and subsequently add it to an IList). Thus far I have the "per class" part done by doing XmlReader.ReadElementString() but I can't workout how to tell the pointer to move to the StatementsAvailable element and let me iterate through them and let another class read each of those proeprties. Sounds easy!

  Hi, I just wondering if anyone has already tried of doing something like schema inheritance in BizTalk schemas? I am using WCF Adapter and using 'consume adapter service' to generate a schema automatically, what I wanted is instead of always generating a schema and since most of my schema is the same then I want to have something like a base schema. I have this scenario that I'm testing flat file debatching, for debatching I need to set maxoccur property of the schema to '1' but for batch processing it should be '*', instead of creating a two different schemas I want just to create a base schema and inherit from it and then change the maxoccur property in the derived schema. • Deserialize generic collections - coming up empty

  I've got a settings object for my app that has two collections in it. The collections are simple List generics that contain a collection of property bags. When I serialize it, everything is saved with no problem: XmlSerializer x = new XmlSerializer(settings.GetType()); TextWriter tw = new StreamWriter(@"c:\temp\settings.cpt"); x.Serialize(tw, settings); However when I deserialize it, everything is restored except for the two collections (verified by setting a breakpoint on the setters: XmlSerializer x = new XmlSerializer(typeof(CourseSettings)); XmlReader tr = XmlReader.Create(@"c:\temp\settings.cpt"); this.DataContext = (CourseSettings)x.Deserialize(tr); What would cause this? Everything is pretty vanilla... here's a snippet from the settings object... omitting most of it.
