  Hi, I want to pass a command to a shell script. This command is a grep command. While executing I am getting the following errors, please help: myscript.sh "egrep 'ERROR|FATAL' \*20100428\*.log | grep -v aString" myscript.sh is a simple script: #!/bin/ksh cd log $1 the errors are: egrep: can't open | egrep: can't open grep egrep: can't open -v egrep: can't open aString Error is because egrap sees |, grep, -v and aString as arguments.

• Would javascript and similar scripting languages benefit from being strongly typed?

  Just had my mind going today. I spent some time in IE debug mode, browsing the web as usual, and oh boy do I see many errors :) Most of these errors are because some value are of a different type than expected (at least as far as I interpret the error messages). What are the reasons JavaScript and similar scripting languages aren't strongly typed? Is it just to make the languages "easier" to understand and more accessable, or is the lack of a "compile-time" the real problem?

I have made changes in the html file for the compact display of the image by defining "max-height" and "max-width". But i want to resize the image file on upload. The image file may have a maximum width of 100px and maximum height of 150px. The image proportions must be constrained.   What's an effective way to handle data validation, say, from a form submission? What I did next was create a class that handles various data validation scenarios and store the results in an internal array.   We have an API proxy configured with cache ttl of 2mins. Is it possible to configure apigee to serve stale cached content if the backend goes down so that our end users don't see errors? We would rather have our end users get copies of stale cached content (even after the configured ttl of 2mins expires) instead of errors when the backend goes down. I know you can easily turn any query in a select query that has no write or delete effect in any row, but that can lead to errors and it's not very practical if you want to test and debug many queries.
