• Java 1.5.0_16 corrupted colours when saving jpg image

  Hi, i have a loaded image from disk (stored as a BufferedImage), which i display correctly on a JPanel but when i try to re-save this image using the command below, the image is saved in a reddish hue. ImageIO.write(image, "jpg", fileName); Note! image is a BufferedImage and fileName is a File object pointing to the filename that will be saved which end in ".jpg". I have read that there were problems with ImageIO methods in earlier JDKs but i'm not on one of those versions as far as i could find. What i am looking for is a way to fix this issue without updating the JDK, however having said that i would still like to know in what JDK this issue was fixed in (if it indeed is still a bug with the JDK i'm using).   Hello all, I've got a open graph page with a like button, activity feed, etc. I want to be able to post programmatically. The open graph docs says it's possible via the old stream.publish api. I've got a meta tag pointing to my facebook application, but the stream publish api doesn't seem to be able to post. This is what i'm posting via the api: { message='Hello facebook', target_id='ID via curl 'https://graph.facebook.com/?ids', 'uid'='application_id' } I keep getting: "error_code":101,"error_msg":"Invalid API key" What am I missing? • Setting up java configurations in eclipse. multiple .param files

  I'm going to be using ECJ for doing genetic programming and I haven't touched java in years. I'm working on setting up the eclipse environment and I'm catching a few snags. The ECJ source has several packages, and several sample programs come along with it. I ran one sample program (called tutorial1) by going to the run configurations and adding -file pathToParamsFile to the program arguments. This made it point to the params file of that tutorial and run that sample. In a new example I am testing (from the package gui) there are TWO params files. I tried pointing to just one param file and a program ran in the console, but there was supposed to be a GUI which did not load. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Any help would be greaaatly appreciated.

• Lego-Style Cocoa Workflow Application

  Hi, I currently have to develop a system very similar to MIT's Scratch's UI. In case you don't know it, here a screenshot: http://kidconfidence.com/blogs/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/scratch1.png Basically you have bricks in the library on the left you can drop into the window on the right side. The problem I have is that I'm new to Cocoa and not sure what would be the best way to accomplish that. Because you can nest these bricks sometimes and other times stick them together I wonder if there is something that would help implementing that. I recognize this is not a very common interface that there are probably no implementations of that around, but maybe there are helpers for parts of this. Regards, Armin

• Do you have any tips for comments to keep them in step with the code? [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: How do you like your comments? G'day, I've read both of Steve McConnell's excellent Code Complete books "Code Complete" and "Code Complete 2" and was wondering if people have any other suggestions for commenting code. My commenting mantra could be summed up by the basic idea of expressing "what the code below cannot say". While enjoying this interesting blog post by Jeff about commenting I was still left wondering "When coding, when do you feel a comment is required?" Edit: Oops. Seems to be a duplicate of this question http://stackoverflow.com/questions/121945/how-do-you-like-your-comments so sorry for the noise. Thanks to my, seemingly, SO shadow for pointing it out - wouldn't have thought I was that interesting. Now off to read the original post and see if it is relevant. Edit: I meant to emphasise the best appraoch to ensure that your comments will stay in step with the code. Maybe expressing an intent rather than the mechansim for instance.

  I heard lots of good opinions about Python language. They say it's mature, expressive etc... Are there any production-ready web application frameworks in Python. By "production ready" I mean : supports objective-relational mapping with caching and declarative desciption (like JPA, Hibernate etc..) controls oriented user interface support - no HTML templates but something like JSF (RichFaces, Icefaces) or GWT, Vaadin, ZK component decomposition and dependency injection (like EJB or Spring) unit and integration testing good IDE support clustering, modularity etc (like Terracota, OSGi etc..) there are successful applications written in it by companies like IBM, Oracle etc (I mean real business applications not Twitter) could have commercial support Is it possible at all in Python world ? Or only choices are : use Python and write everything from the bottom (too expensice) stick to JEE buy .NET stack

• How do I secure all the admin actions in all controllers in cakePHP

  Hello Everyone, I am developing an application using cakePHP v 1.3 on windows (XAMPP). Most of the controllers are baked with the admin routing enabled. I want to secure the admin actions of every controller with a login page. How can I do this without repeating much ? One solution to the problem is that "I check for login information in the admin_index action of every controller" and then show the login screen accordingly. Is there any better way of doing this ? The detault URL to admin (http://localhost/app/admin) is pointing to the index_admin action of users controller (created a new route for this in routes.php file) Thanks

• How do I put my return data from an asmx into JSON? I'm having trouble finding decent literature

  I want to return an array of javascript objects from my asp.net asmx file. ie. variable = [ { *value1*: 'value1', *value2*: 'value2', ..., }, { . . } ]; I seem have been having trouble reaching this. I'd put this into code but I've been hacking away at it so much it'd probably do more harm than good in having this answered. Basically I am using a web service to find names as people type the name. I'd use a regular text file or something but its a huge database that's always changing - and don't worry I've indexed the names so searching can be a little snappier - but I would really prefer to stick with this method and just figure out how to get usable JSON back to javascript. I've seen a few that sort of attempt to describe how one would approach this but I honestly think microsofts articles are damn near unreadable. Thanks in advance for assistance.

• Should I use uint in C# for values that can't be negative?

  I have just tried implementing a class where numerous length/count properties, etc. are uint instead of int. However, while doing so I noticed that it's actually painful to do so, like as if no one actually wants to do that. Nearly everything that hands out an integral type returns an int, therefore requiring casts in several points. I wanted to construct a StringBuffer with its buffer length defaulted to one of the fields in that class. Requires a cast too. So I wondered whether I should just revert to int here. I'm certainly not using the entire range anyway. I just thought since what I'm dealing with there simply can't be negative (if it was, it'd be an error) it'd be a nice idea to actually use uint. P.S.: I saw this question and this at least explains why the framework itself always uses int but even in own code it's actually cumbersome to stick to uint which makes me think it apparently isn't really wanted.

• Switch between views in Android

  Hi, all I'm writing an Android application with multiple Tabs. The content of each tabs is determined by XMLs on the Internet, and it could be WebView for HTML rendering, GridView for photo displaying, etc. I'm going to delay downloading of those XML until the tab is clicked. Upon clicking the application will download corresponding XML from the Internet, and then choose suitable View for it. Currently I have written a MyViewDelegate and use TabSpec.setContent() to set the spec pointing to MyViewDelegate: spec = tabHost.newTabSpec(tabName[i]); intent = new Intent().setClass(this, HomeActivity.class); spec.setIndicator(title[i]); spec.setContent(new MyViewDelegate(this, tabName[i])); tabHost.addTab(spec); My problem is, after MyViewDelegate is required to draw, how can I switch to WebView/GridView and initialize it? • Cleanest way to run/debug python programs in windows

  Python for Windows by default comes with IDLE, which is the barest-bones IDE I've ever encountered. For editing files, I'll stick to emacs, thank you very much. However, I want to run programs in some other shell than the crappy windows command prompt, which can't be widened to more than 80 characters. IDLE lets me run programs in it if I open the file, then hit F5 (to go Run- Run Module). I would rather like to just "run" the command, rather than going through the rigmarole of closing the emacs file, loading the IDLE file, etc. A scan of google and the IDLE docs doesn't seem to give much help about using IDLE's shell but not it's IDE. Any advice from the stack overflow guys? Ideally I'd either like advice on running programs using IDLE's shell advice on other ways to run python programs in windows outside of IDLE or "cmd". • How to get Jquery form plugin and Jquery validation to work together.

  Hello guys, I was hoping someone can shed some light on what might be occurring on my page. Okay what I currently have on my page is a simple form that collects first name, last name, city, state and email. Once submitted it will hit a PHP page that updates our DB and echo's back to the designted div with a class of .response. I am using jquery.validation and placing that dynamic function within the submitHandler like so: submitHandler: function(form) { $(form).ajaxSubmit({ target: '.response', // target element(s) to be updated with server response resetForm: true, success: function() { $('#commentform').hide(); $('.response').show(); } }); So what I am getting is a div that is not being populated with the echo from my php file in FF and in IE I am getting the message of thank you but the page is taking me to the update.php script in which I have the form action pointing to. • Upgrade from .NET 2.0 to .NET 3.5 problems

  I’m trying to upgrade our solution from VS2005 .NET 2.0 to VS2008 .NET 3.5. I converted the solution using VS2008 conversion wizard. All the projects (about 50) remained targeting to .NET Framework 2.0., moreover if I’m changing target framework manually for one of the projects, all referenced dll (i.e. System, System.Core, System.Data, etc. are still pointing to Framework 2.0. The only way to completely change targeting framework I found is to remove these references and refer them again using proper version of framework. Doing it manually is not best choice I think. 50 projects ~ 10 references each ~ 0.5 minutes for changing each reference is about 5 hours to complete. Am I missing something? Are there any other ways of converting full solution from .NET 2.0 to .NET 3.5? Thank you.

• Choosing VS2008 .Net 3.5 and .Net 3.5SP1

  here is the problem. I have one PC using VS2008 (SP1 ) and another PC using VS2008(normal). I want my .Net projects to be editable in both these PC's. So naturally my projects use .Net 3.5 by default and not .Net 3.5 SP1. So, Is there a way I can fix my VS2008 (SP1) version to stick to .Net 3.5 and not .Net 3.5 SP1. In project properties-Application-TargetFramework I dont see an option for .Net 3.5 SP1. (Note: I know that there are solution like uninstalling SP1 or Installing SP1 on the other PC. I am asking is there any other way)

• Beginning GWT and Java - wich is the best route when coming from LAMP background?

  Hi! I've worked a lot with php/mysql on linux servers, including frameworks, orm etc. Now I want to give GWT and Java a try! Installing GWT SDK, Eclipse plugin etc and running a "Hello world" is no problem... The server is running automagically in the background... But when it comes to setting it up my self, there seems to be confusingly many options. Jetty? Tomcat? Glassfish? How are those related/combinable to/with Apache? Are there any good resources or tutorials for setting up java development and server environments suited for one like me with PHP background? Maybe pointing out the possiblities of running PHP and Java on the same server? Regards / Jonas

• How can Request Validation be disabled for HttpHandlers?

  Is it possible to disable request validation for HttpHandlers? A bit of background - I've got an ASP.NET web application using an HttpHandler to receive the payment response from WorldPay. The IIS logs show that the handler is being called correctly from WorldPay, but the code inside the handler is never called. If I create a physical ASPX page and set ValidateRequest=false in the header, and put the same code in the Page_Load method, the code is called without any problems. This solves the problem, though I'd prefer to stick with using an HttpHandler for this as it's better suited for this type of functionality, rather than having an empty ASPX page, though this is dependent on being able to disable request validation. The web application is using ASP.NET 2.0 and the server is IIS6.

• jQuery slide up/down on hover bug

  Hi! I have one large div with one smaller div inside it. The smaller div is at first displayed as hidden. When the user hovers the mouse over the large container-div the smaller div is animated in with the show/hide-functions. So far everything works fine. However. The smaller div is animated in from the bottom - so if I let the cursor hover over the container at the very bottom, it's hovering over the animation of the smaller div while it's sliding in. So now the cursor is hovering over the smaller div instead of the larger div, and thus triggering the hide-function on the smaller div. This creates an infinite loop of show/hide calls as the smaller div slides in and out of where the cursor is pointing. Any ideas how to avoid this and not break the hovering on the container as the smaller div enters?

• SilverLight WebApp Calling Webservice in the same solution

  Hi, I have a website solution that is composed of a SilverLight Project and an ASP Site that contains an asmx Webservice. The SilverLight project calls various methods in the Webservice, and this works fine on my home PC. When i publish the site (using 123-Reg if that makes a difference), it appears that the SilverLight app is no longer able to call the webservice. I have tried debugging the app by pointing my local version of the site to my published webservice and i get a "policy" issue. I know that 123 Reg have .Net 3.5 running on their servers, so i would assume that the site should "just work" when i publish it. Am i making a hugely stupid assumption there? Is there anything that i can do to change the "policies" within my app? Or is there another way around what i am trying to do ( i need to keep the webservice, as i want for it to be used from other places, and dont really want to duplicate code and create the same methods within the SilverLight project). • How to store or share live data between PHP Requests?

  Hi, I want to start a project for facebook and the application will be like real-time multiplayer chess game. The problem I'm having is I have no idea how to store the data when a player moves one piece and update the new position in player2 browser. I'm gonna use PHP, MySQL for server side and jQuery for Client Rendering. The simplest idea is to store the data in XML or MySQL and re-generate the result to player2 browser. But I know that when thousand of players are playing, it will not be an efficient way. Since I don't have time to study new language for this project, I'm gonna have to stick with PHP. I'm not going to use flash either because I want my client side light-weight and flash-free. So is there any way that will solve my problems?

  Which programming language would you recommend to learn about data structures and algorithms in? Considering the follwing: Personal experience Language features (pointers, OO, etc) Suitability for learning DS & A concepts I ask because there are some books out there that are programming language-agnostic (written from a Mathematical perspective, and use pseudocode). If I learn from one of these I would like to work out the algorithms in a chosen language. Then, there are other books which introduce DS & A concepts with examples in a particular programming laguage - and I would follow these examples as well. Either way, I have to choose a language, and I would like to stick to one throughout. Which one best fits the bill.

  My team is building our first significant Silverlight application, using a 3 layered architecture and WCF. We have developed about 10 separate WCF services in the middle layer so far, and this number is only going to grow. Generally, the presentation layer (ie. the Silverlight app) is pointing to the services as hosted on our dev server. However, there are times when I want it to access the services from localhost - ie. the developers machine. Is there an easy way to change where the presentation layer is looking for the services? Is there some way of easily switching between options here?

  I'm looking for a way to export a Word document as a PDF. I would like to do this without the use of a "software printer" (such as CutePDF, etc.) and stick to reference assemblies if at all possible. I'm using Microsoft Office Interop Assemblies to generate a Word Document which I save to a temporary directory. So its not necessary for this solution to interact directly with Microsoft Office, unless it needs to. Any help or feedback you might have would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

  I have started to look at Event-Based Components (EBCs), a programming method currently being explored by Ralf Wesphal in Germany, in particular. This is a really interesting and promising way to architect a software solution, and gets close to the age-old idea of being able to stick software components together like Lego :) A good starting point is the Channel 9 video here, and there is a fair bit of discussion in German at the Google Group on EBCs. I am however looking for more concrete examples - while the ideas look great, I am finding it hard to translate them into real code for anything more than a trivial project. Does anyone know of any good code examples (in C# preferably), or any more good sites where EBCs are discussed?

• Visual Studio Pre build events and batch set

  Hi, I'm trying to create call a batch file which sets a bunch of environment variables prior to building. The batch file looks something like this (it's automatically generated before-hand to detect ATI Stream SDK or NVidia CUDA toolkit): set OCL_LIBS_X86="%ATISTREAMSDKROOT%libs\x86" set OCL_LIBS_X64="%ATISTREAMSDKROOT%libs\x86_64" set OCL_INCLUDE="%ATISTREAMSDKROOT%include" However, the rest of the build doesn't seem to have access to these variables, so when I try to reference $(OCL_INCLUDE) in the C/C++GeneralAdditional include directories, it will first give me warning that environment variable $(OCL_INCLUDE) was not found, and when I try to include CL/cl.hpp the compile will fail with: fatal error C1083: Cannot open include file: 'CL/cl.hpp': No such file or directory I know that I could put these variables into the registry if I wanted to access them from the visual studio GUI, but I would really prefer not to do this. Is there a way to to get these environment variables to stick after the pre-build events? I can't reference $(ATISTREAMSDKROOT) directly because the project must be able to build for both ATI Stream and NVidia Cuda.
