• Fetch Latitude Longitude by passing postcodes to maps.google.com using Javascript

  Hello All... I have Postcode in my large database, which contains values like SL5 9JH, LU1 3TQ etc. Now when I am pasting above postcode to maps.google.com it's pointing to a perfect location.. My requirement is like I want to pass post codes to maps.google.com and it should return a related latitude and longitude of that pointed location, that I want to store in my database. So, most probably there should be some javascript for that... If anybody have another idea regarding that please provide it.. Thanks in advance...

• How to be sure that my MVC project is running on the correct version after upgrade to vs2010?

  I just installed visual studio 2010 and upgraded my MVC project (which was running on MVC RC2 in visual studio 2008). visual studio 2010 updated every project file to target the framework 4.0. But the system.web.dll is pointing to C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft ASP.NET\ASP.NET MVC 2\Assemblies\System.Web.Mvc.dll in VS2010 object browser, I have every dll showing up in multiple versions as expected (3.5.0.0 and 4.0.0.0) except for the System.Web.Mvc dll which doesn't show any version and points to the path I mentioned above. Isn't this namespace point to the Framework folder like the System.Web namespace? C:\Program Files (x86)\Reference Assemblies\Microsoft\Framework.NETFramework\v4.0\System.Web.dll

• Cache for everybody except staff members.

  I have a django site where I want to stick an "admin bar" along the top of every non-admin page for staff members. It would contain useful things like page editing tools, etc. The problem comes from me using the @cache_page decorator on lots of pages. If a normal user hits a page, the cached version comes up without the admin bar (even for admin users) and if an admin hits the page first, normal users see the admin bar. I could tediously step through the templates, adding regional cache blocks but there are a lot of templates, and life is altogether too short. Ideally, there would be a way of telling the caching to ignore cache get/set requests from admin users... But I don't know how to best implement that. How would you tackle this problem?

  I am having some issues with Entity Framework in VS2010 The problem I'm getting is described very well here... http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en/adonetefx/thread/cacf6a76-09a8-4c90-9502-d8b87c2f6bea It's basically happening when a Foreign key is pointed at the primary key of another table...but if I take off the StoreGeneratedPattern as "Identity", then it tries to insert a value into the identity field ** EDIT So, what it seems to be is that EF4 can't handle a null relationship when the primary key is set to StoreGeneratedPattern="Identity". If I create a FK pointing to this primary key, and make it nullable (effectively creating a 0...M relationship), then it throws this compilation error. Removing StoreGeneratedPattern="Identity" fixes the issue, but causes issues elseware It works if the foreign key is set to not nullable

  i have published asp.net mvc application on iis 6 on the server(windows server 2003) from local machine. On server i have set the default page to default.aspx. but when i try to browse the site on server, it gives me exception "The incoming request does not match any route" One thing i noticed is that. • Service Call very slow if going through HttpHandler

  I have a WCF client pointing to a WebSphere service. All is good in normal situation except when my calls to the service originate from an HttpHandler - in this case the calls are extremely slow (it takes up to 10 times longer). If I send the exact same envelopes through Soap-UI or without an HttpHandler it's all good. If the envelope is the same the only thing left is the HttpHeader. Would the fact that I am going through an HttpHandler cause changes HttpHeaders compared to normal scenarios? What should I be looking for and is there some config setting that might do the trick? Any help appreciated!

• SelectedValue of DropDownList is not the one I selected when Enabled=false

  Hiya, I have a few DropDownLists on a webform each pointing to a SqlDataSource. Some of these datasources use one of these DropDownLists for a select parameter, filtering the list to specific categories. For certain users two of these DropDownLists are to be automatically set and disabled. When I submit the form with the drop downs enabled it works fine but when they are disabled the SelectedValue of the DropDownList is being reset to the first one in the list. My DropDownLists are constructed as follows: <asp:DropDownList ID="ddlManager" runat="server" DataSourceID="dsManagers" EnableViewState="false" DataValueField="ManagerID" DataTextField="MgrName" AppendDataBoundItems="false" ondatabound="ddlManager_DataBound" > The drop down lists add an extra item on the data bound event as follows: protected void ddlManager_DataBound(object sender, EventArgs e) { this.ddlManager.Items.Insert(0, new ListItem("--Manager--", "--Manager--")); } Can anyone shed any light as to why this is happening? • testing database application remotely

  With advice from users here I was able to deploy an application that connects with sql server 2008 database on to a server. I have the connection string with data source pointing to my machine since the database is stored on my machine temporarily. I do not have access to another machine and wanted to test the application so I remotely connected to the server to test the application and it does not connect to the server. I have TCP/IP enables, port to defaul 1433, and remote connections checked. Is there something I am missing? Please help

  I came across this answer where the poster suggested that the shorthand for if(typeof MyNamespace === 'undefined'){ var MyNamespace = {}; } is var MyNamespace = MyNamespace || {}; Would veteran programmers recommend the latter to simplify the code, or does it overly complicate things, like abusing ++ or -- in complex compound statements? EDIT The reason I asked is b/c a while back someone inspired me by pointing out that a lot of the people who think they are expert programmers make a lot of beginners mistakes. • How to configure MySQL connection properties with Spring, Hibernate 3.3 and c3p0?

  I am currently in the process of upgrading an application from Hibernate 3.2 to Hibernate 3.3. I though I'd stick with the default connection pool (Hibernate changed its default from Commons DBCP to c3p0) as I don't have any good reason to choose a non-default pool. At least non but having used DBCP before. The upgrade went pretty much without any problems so far. The only thing I can't get to work is passing properties to the underlying MySQL JDBC4Connection. Up to now, I used DBCP's BasicDataSource.addConnectionProperty(String,String) to pass properties (useUnicode=true, characterEncodin=UTF-8, characterSetResults=UTF-8, zeroDateTimeBehavior=convertToNull). However, I can't find any way to do the same with c3p0 other than including them in the JDBC URL. (That's something I'd like to avoid as I wanna keep the URL configurable without forcing users to include those parameters.) So far, I've tried to use a ConnectionCustomizer without success. Any other suggestions?

• Need post-it notes that don't fall off the whiteboard after a week.

  In my company, we plan our develpment work with scrum. We track progress using post-it stickies on a big whiteboard, and it works great. It is my understanding that's kind of standard. We are just one location, so we don't need or want to do this electronically. But to our (and the Q/A rep's) annoyance, the sticky notes begin to fall off the whiteboard after a week or two, or even sooner if you stick them on top of each other. I've experimented with extra tape on the stickies. That helped, but it also ruins the whiteboard. So I am looking for a pragmatic and preferably low-cost alternative. Are some post-it brands better than others? Or do you have another solution for a scrum board does not suffer from this?

  Say I have a web site with a master page and an aspx page. In my ASPX page, I am pointing to my masterpage with the MasterType tag. <%@ MasterType VirtualPath="~/mymasterpage.master" % Say, I've defined a label in the markup of my master page. If you look at the designer code, this label should be something like this. protected global::System.Web.UI.WebControls.Label label1; Now in my content page, I would like to reference this label. If I type in this "Master.label1", the complier will complain that the control is inaccessible due to the protection level" and rightly so, as label1 is automatically defined as "protected". My question is, if I define controls in my markup page, is it possible to set these controls as public instead of protected? I do not see an attribute for it. thanks in advance.

• Word Interop compile time error

  I am getting the following error when referencing the assembly Microsoft.Office.Interop.Word in my asp.net application. The type 'Microsoft.Office.Interop.Word.ApplicationClass' exists in both 'C:\WINDOWS\assembly\GAC\Microsoft.Office.Interop.Word\11.0.0.0_71e9bce111e9429c\Microsoft.Office.Interop.Word.dll' and 'C:\WINDOWS\assembly\GAC\Microsoft.Office.Interop.Word\12.0.0.0_71e9bce111e9429c\Microsoft.Office.Interop.Word.dll' Previously, I was getting the error but the 12.0.0.0 was in the PIA directory under Visual Studio, but the error message was the same, except pointing to a different path. Since then, I copied the dll to the GAC, but with the same error. I thought that .Net was supposed to take care of this. Can anyone give me some help? Thanks BTW, I am doing this using Visual Studio .Net 2008

  going through both the django book and tutorial, am a bit confused to the differences in approach (aren't they both written by the same people?) can anyone who has experience in both give a short review on them? i have decent python skills (largely untested though), but no experience at all in web apps and am trying to decide which one to stick to. i briefly looked in to practical django projects but that was a bit too complicated for me, my background is primarily bash scripting, the python i know i learned from an instant hacking tutorial and diving into python.

• Custom size app screen on iPad

  I am trying to create a mid-size screen for my app on iPad. In didFinishLaunchingWithOptions(), I do this: CGRect winRect = CGRectMake(100,100,500,500); navController.view.frame = winRect; the screen comes up fine and I can click around and do stuff until the orientation changes. It takes the screen to original full size - how can I make it stick to my winRect frame? I tried setting the parentViewController.view.frame/view.frame to winRect in willRotateToInterfaceOrientation() but no good. Any ideas? Thanks.

• Table View rotate, but not properly (shape change)

  Hello everyone, Here is the thing. I have a ViewController which contain a view in full window. And the program run in landscape mode. I want to put an UITableView over the full screen view but only on right half part of the screen. So I add a UITableView in my view controller, I used the Interface Builder in order to set the Table View in the upper half of the screen so It will be on the right part in LandscapeLeft mode. I searched for on a lot of forum how to rotate my Table View. And so it does... except, It get stuck on the upper half of the landscape mode, it should stick on the right half. I'm not a iPhone coder since long, so I'm a bit confused on how to solve this problem. Do you have any idea on how to resize or make the TableView rotate properly. Thanks,

  Hello everyone, I am just switching from Ant to Maven and am trying to figure out the best practice to set up a EAR file based Enterprise project? Lets say I want to create a pretty standard project with a jar file for the EJBs, a WAR file for the Web tier and the encapsulating EAR file, with the corresponding deployment descriptors. How would I go about it? Create the project with archetypeArtifactId=maven-archetype-webapp liek a war file and extend from there? What is the best project structure (and POM file example) for this?   It's a bit complicated this one... Lets say I have a listing of PDF files displayed in the user's browser. Each filename is a link pointing not to the file, but to an ASP page, say <--a href="viewfile.asp?file=somefile.pdf">somefile.pdf</a> I want viewfile.asp to fetch the file (I've done that bit OK) but I then want the file to be loaded by the browser as if the user had opened the PDF file directly. • IE 8 dialog windows not decompressing files

  Hi, I've got a website where we have pre-compressed all of our HTML files. In general this works fine, but since IE 8 has come out some people are finding that they can not use some parts of the website. We've used the showModalDialog command to open a dialog window and pointing to one of our pre-compressed files but it displays it just show up as strange characters (ie not decompressed). Now it only happens in the dialog. I'm pretty sure our compression is all fine because the page they are viewing to open the dialog is also compressed. Has anyone else come across this or got any suggestions cuz i'm stumped??? Thanks, Mike
