• How to get a higher resolution on Ubuntu 11.04 using an intel chipset

  I have a bit slow PC here, so I decided to put Ubuntu 11.04 on it. It use to run Windows Vista on a resolution of 1280x1024, so both my hardware and monitor support it. Now I'm on Ubuntu, but can only run 1024x768, and the screen is not that bright. Its like when you don't have the right drivers on a Windows machine. Now i'm new to linux, so I do not know what do do. I have an onboard Intel chipset i965. • Terrible noises from subwoofer of ACER Aspire 6930 with Realtek sound chip

  After approximately 5-15 min of listening to music my subwoofer begins to make terrible noises. He's just "coughing". That began after 6 months I had this computer. Now I found out, that I can temporarily fix this problem by "restarting" the audio stream of the application that plays music. For example reloading last.fm page (reloads the flash file). Another way to reset the audio playback is switching the speaker configuration shown below in the screenshot. According to many posts on the internet like http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/52918-20-acer-aspire-6935g-speaker-problem ACER support isn't any help Exchanging hardware doesn't fix the problem Even the later models have this problem Turning off the volume of the subwoofer is not an option to me. I still have warranty (I bought an extension of one year). I already tried about 15 versions of the Realtek driver with no success. I am not sure but MAYBE the problem did not occur on the original windows vista that was shipped with this computer. However, I removed the original windows for good reasons (english). What do you suggest me? Did anyone fix this problem? Maybe by writing a script which resets the audio streams every 5 minutes? Shall I take the effort to deal with the acer support until they give me another model? (I won't have a computer than for a longer time, will spend money on telephone hotlines (1,30 EUR / min)......) • How to remove static IP from Mitel 5312 and enable DHCP

  I'm not sure this is the right forum for this question -- although I'm confident I'll be told if not! -- but I've read the fine manual (at least, such a manual as I have), I've googled and I cannot get any insight into where to even start solving this problem. I have a bunch of Mitel 5312 handsets, talking to a 3300 ICP controller. Some handsets are at a remote location, get an address from my DHCP server over there, and use the Mitel "Teleworker" extension to connect in over the Internet. The remaining handsets were set up with static IPs by a BT-supplied engineer, on the same subnet as the ICP itself. So far, so good. I have one remaining teleworker licence, and need to move a handset from the home location to the remote. I've managed to boot it and configure teleworker, but I cannot for the life of me see where I tell it to forget its static IP, and make a DHCP request. Any ideas? Should I be looking on the controller, or holding magic combinations of buttons on the handset itself? EDIT: Following some advice from Robert, below, I've broken out a spare device and reassigned the profile for this user's extension to the MAC of the new phone, and a new profile to the old MAC. Unfortunately this still doesn't get me anywhere -- the new handset now asks for the teleworker install password. I suspect I'm going to have to get a Mitel engineer involved here, since I've never been given that password... Unless anyone has any great ideas?

• I think installing PostFix solved my problem, but it seemed *too* easy

  Hi, This is a followup to a serverfault post I made a while ago: http://serverfault.com/questions/21633/how-do-i-target-a-different-mail-server-depending-on-domain-with-exim (More context here too: http://forum.slicehost.com/comments.php?DiscussionID=3806 ) I have a slice/VPS at Slicehost. I basically decided to scrap exim (i.e., purge it), and start anew with my email infrastructure. In case you didn't read any of the above threads, basically my goal was to have a send only mail infrastructure that relays all outgoing email to Google Apps. I also wanted to where email from domain1 (a Wordpress installation) would show it coming from domain1.com and email from domain2 (a normal website) would show it coming from domain2.com. So I decided to give PostFix a try. I literally followed the surprisingly simple instructions here: http://sudhanshuraheja.com/2009/02/slicehost-setup-outgoing-mail-google-apps-postfix/ And voila, all seems to be working as I expected. My email tests show email coming from the proper locations (either domain1 or domain2 depending on where the emails were sent from). But this all seemed too simple to me. So simple, in fact, that I feel that something is amiss. When I installed PostFix according to the instructions in the post above and it worked, I was surprised that I didn't have to specify an SMTP server, a port number, any authentication credentials, etc. My slice is set up such that I have MX records for Google Apps (e.g., ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.) in my DNS settings, but I am not sure if that is why it is working. My email infrastructure knowledge is admittedly limited, but with this am I suspect to: Spammers using my email infrastructure? My emails going to people as spam? Something else sinister? I have actually stopped running PostFix until I understand this better. Thanks!

• Windows 7 task bar stuck in hiding, how to fix?

  In Windows 7, I use the "Auto-hide the task bar" feature. Usually, it works fine: As soon as the pointer touches the screen bottom, the task bar pops up. However sometimes, it refuses to rise. Pressing the "Windows" key (or Ctrl-ESC) makes the start menu appear, forcing the task bar from hinding as well. Once I've done this, the task-bar auto-rises again. This is annoying, it interrupts flow. Has anyone else noticed this? How do I avoid this? If my memory serves correctly, I have seen this behavior on earlier versions of Windows as well, XP at least. To reproduce this behavior, I tried switching between apps, and bringing apps to open other windows. I am unable to reproduce this behavior so far. So far, it appears to happen out of the blue, sometimes multiple times a day. Looks like a bug to me. The task bar should raise no matter what.

• OS X borked; need to backup outside of Time Machine

  Quick Background: iMac G5 (the white one; 4 years old?) Running Leopard 10.5.something. Time Machine started failing on me; and every time I touch the Finder, things beachball like crazy. Booting from install disk then using Disk Utility to "Repair Disk" also fails. I'm left with the conclusion that I have a corrupt file somewhere important, that's (i) keeping TM from working and (ii) messing with basic functionality. I am not (yet) savvy enough in OS X to know what logs to look in, or how to decipher them - but 'corrupt file' seems to be the likely case, based on my readings of apple.com forum threads. So I think I need to backup, outside of Time Machine, then install fresh OS X on a new drive (or maybe SpinRite the current drive?). I'm able to put a (non-Time Machine) external USB drive on, so I dragged all 3 Users' folders to that... am I done backing up? Am I going to have a massive Permissions problem, trying to put things back together after a re-install? Thanks for reading.

• FastGate A20 Line And Himem.sys Issue With Updating BIOS

  I have been persistent with a thought to perform my first BIOS update ever through MS-DOS but have been postponing this task until today. Despite people telling me any bootable ISO will do it either through CD-ROM or RAMDRIVE, I am still having problems. First is the problem with CD-ROM driver trying to make it work with 4 driver files (cd1.SYS, cd2.SYS, cd3.SYS, cd4.SYS) as well as starting RAMDISK proved to be failure: CD-ROM XMS Allocation Error RAMDISK XMS Allocaton Error (X: and R: drives not working) This A20 line seemed to be the obstacle which then after a couple of searches pointed me to this article on Microsoft website. It seems that FastGate is the culprit which takes over A20 line and conflicts with himem.sys which should be handling it causing the driver to be unable to allocate memory resources. Albeit article suggests 2 workarounds which is disabling FastGate option or adding switch, I read that the former workaround could cause problems which involves later tinkering BIOS, disabling shadow copy etc. while the latter workaround can just hang system as stated in the link above. I assume it just hangs the boot process from image file though. Summing up the above, I am cautious and think it is risky to follow both workarounds because disabling FastGate or trying adding switch by trying available switches from 1-14 or 16, could crash the BIOS update process by itself. I could do this without the need for himem.sys with bootable USB thumbdrive by making it to be seen as USB-HDD, but some time ago I read that it is never a good idea to update BIOS from hard drive so even thought it is simulation, who knows... Maybe it will deactivate hard drive in the middle of the BIOS update process or even USB thumbdrive per se? One forum discussion was about updating BIOS and somebody suggested to not load himem.sys for some reason, but now that I think of it, what if BIOS update needs upper memory?

• Disable CTRL+mouse wheel zooming in Chrome?

  I'm a normal-sighted person and I would like to view pages at 100% all the time. I use keyboard shortcuts that involve CTRL a lot, so about twenty times a day I accidentally hit CTRL at the same time that I'm scrolling, which results in the page being reflowed and repainted. This in is annoying because it can take up to 30 seconds to fix the issue, depending on how complex the site layout is. On sites with dynamic layout such as Google Docs the problem is more serious; accidentally hitting CTRL+mouse wheel corrupts the display and forces me to refresh the page entirely, sometimes causing me to loose information in the process. I would like to either decouple CTRL+mouse wheel from zoom, or disable zoom functionality altogether. This is possible on Firefox by using about:config; is there a similar way to edit detailed settings in Chrome? Would I have access to the detailed settings if I used Chromium instead of Chrome? I'll probably jump ship back to Firefox if I can't solve this problem. There is a superuser question that asks basically the same thing I'm asking, but for Firefox and Internet Explorer exclusively. Other people on the Chrome forum have had related issues, but none have the same problem. "I would really like it if I could deactivate the auto zoom in/out." had "something with laptops and Windows 7", not the feature built into Chrome. Other people have had PDF specific issues, which doesn't concern me. I've also tried searching for extensions that allow you to disable the scroll; I had hoped that "Zoom Lock" would have the ability to lock the zoom at 100% and prevent CTRL+scroll wheel from distorting the display, but it doesn't work for my use case. • Do I need to restart my server after editing fstab and mtab?

  I'm just wondering if I need to restart my server after editing fstab and mtab. I changed something in this file manually due to problem with awstats report. I am using ISPConfig 3 with the help of the tutorial from howtoforge. But due to removing/deleting of some account, the configuration of fstab and mtab messed up. I also ask this question at howtoforge forum but until now no one has answered. If you'd like to read my question please visit it here. I tried very hard to fix the problem w/o luck. Update: Here's what happen to my fstab: Before the value was (I omitted the other): /var/log/ispconfig/httpd/mydomain.com /var/www/clients/client1/web1/log none bind,nobootwait 0 0 /var/log/ispconfig/httpd/example.com /var/www/clients/client1/web2/log none bind,nobootwait 0 0 So I changed it to the correct path: /var/log/ispconfig/httpd/mydomain.com /var/www/clients/client1/web2/log none bind,nobootwait 0 0 /var/log/ispconfig/httpd/example.com /var/www/clients/client1/web3/log none bind,nobootwait 0 0 I also found mtab to have the same value as above that's why I edited it manually. from: /var/log/ispconfig/httpd/mydomain.com /var/www/clients/client1/web1/log none rw,bind 0 0 /var/log/ispconfig/httpd/example.com /var/www/clients/client1/web2/log none rw,bind 0 0 to: /var/log/ispconfig/httpd/mydomain.com /var/www/clients/client1/web2/log none rw,bind 0 0 /var/log/ispconfig/httpd/example.com /var/www/clients/client1/web3/log none rw,bind 0 0 I edited those value because the correct path of mydomain.com and example.com should be under web2 and web3 folder respectively. As of now the log of example.com is pointed to: /var/www/clients/client1/web2/log when it should be: /var/www/clients/client1/web3/log So I am thinking that this is because of fstab and mtab. Please guide me how to point the log correctly to it's default directory.   I am trying to use cURL and get the following error on every https request I make. The error is always the same. HTTP requests work flawlessly. The verbose output is quite useless. • I cannot access Windows Update at all

  I have been unable to access the Windows update site for a couple of weeks now. I just get a message saying "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" and saying I have connection problems. Same thing is replicated with any other Microsoft site I try to access. The Automatic Updates also do not work. I can access every other wesbite I've surfed to. I've tried Googling the problem and based on what other site have suggested I have cleared my cache and temp files. I've scanning my hard drive with my antivirus in case I have a virus (nada). I've tried turning off my firewall and anti-virus (I run Zone Alarm). I've downloaded SpyBot and scanned my drive with that in case something was missed by Zone Alarm (again nada). Based on suggestions from the smart cookies on the Bad Science forum, I've used nslookup to check my translation isn't wonky (got all the info they said I should get). I've also tried navigating there directly using the IP address I was given (nope). I normally access the internet through a 3 mobile broadband connection, but have also tried connecting using a mate's wi-fi connection in case it was something on my mobile modem interferring. I run Windows XP SP3 with Internet Explorer 7 and Zone Alarm Internet Security Suite as my anti-virus/ firewall. Any suggestions?

• Need advise for choosing software\hardware for virtualization.

  Currently we have these servers : Windows SBS 2003 premium on IBM X266 double Xeon F43, 2GB ram. DC, exchange (70 users), Mssql. Windows 2003 R2 32bit on IBM x3400 with double XEON E5310 and 4GB ram. Terminal server (40+ users), ERP application based on uniPaaS platform from Magicsoftware, and Pervasive sql. Ubuntu 8.04 (simple pc box) with squid proxy, GLPI system and PHPBB3 forum for internal use. Recently number of concurrent users on Terminal server passed 40 users in rush hours and it gets stuck frequently. Therefore we need an upgrade. I think about transfer all physical servers to virtual servers based on cluster of 2 physical servers for reducing downtime. I think we will grow till 50-60 concurrent terminal users in rush hours. I also plan to virtualize 10-15 Win XP/7 workstation (office,ERP etc), and there is a little probability for Asterisk\Hylafax for 100 users (if it possible on same VM). Also we need NAS storage for 2-3TB. What hardware upgrade/purchase we need for complete this task? Which VM solution is preferable VmWare or Hyper-V? What backup software should we choose? • WS2008 subst in Logon script does not "stick"

  I have a terminal server environment exclusively with Windows Server 2008. My problem is that I need to "map" a drive letter to each users Temp folder. This is due to a legacy app that requries a separate Temp folder for each user but which does not understand %temp%. So, just add "subst t: %temp%" to the logon script, right? The problem is that, even though the command runs, the subst doesn't "stick" and the user doesn't get a T: drive. Here is what I have tried; The simplest version: 'Mapping a temp drive Set WinShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell") WinShell.Run "subst T: %temp%", 2, True That didn't work, so tried this for more debug information: 'Mapping a temp drive Set WinShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell") Set procEnv = WinShell.Environment("Process") wscript.echo(procEnv("TEMP")) tempDir = procEnv("TEMP") WinShell.Run "subst T: " & tempDir, 3, True This shows me the correct temp path when the user logs in - but still no T: Drive. Decided to resort to brute force and put this in my login script: 'Mapping a temp drive Set WinShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell") WinShell.Run "\\domain\sysvol\esl.hosted\scripts\tempdir.cmd", 3, True where \domain\sysvol\esl.hosted\scripts\tempdir.cmd has this content: echo on subst t: %temp% pause When I log in with the above then the command window opens up and I can see the subst command being executed correctly, with the correct path. But still no T: drive. I have tried running all of the above scripts outside of a login script and they always work perfectly - this problem only occurs when doing it from inside a login script. I found a passing reference on an MSFN forum about a similar problem when the user is already logged on to another machine - but I have this problem even without being logged on to another machine. Any suggestion on how to overcome this will be much appreciated.

• How do I upgrade Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard (OEM Key) to Enterprise (MSDN Key) using DISM?

My Dell server came preinstalled with 2008 R2 Standard. I upgraded to Enterprise to take advantage of more than 32GB RAM. This server is purely for dev and testing, so I want to use my MSDN product key for the upgrade. I originally tried to uprade using the MSDN Enterprise key, but it wouldn't have it: dism /online /Set-Edition:ServerEnterprise /ProductKey:[MSDN key] => Error DISM DISM Transmog Provider: PID=5728 Product key is keyed to [], but user requested transmog to [ServerEnterprise] - CTransmogManager::ValidateTransmogrify I tried several things, including changing the current product key to the MSDN one. Eventually I used a KMS generic key which can be found in several technet forum posts. dism /online /Set-Edition:ServerEnterprise /ProductKey:[KMS Generic Key] ... and this appeared to work. I then changed the product key again (using the control panel) to the MSDN key, thinking that was the end of the matter. Only later when tried to start up VMs did I realise I only had 4GB of usable RAM. I didn't make the connection with the licensing changes at this point and went off on a wild goose chase of BIOS settings, memory configurations and the like. Only later when I saw this... http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/winserverTS/thread/6debc586-0977-4731-b418-ca1edb34fe8b ...did I make the connection and reapply the KMS Generic key - which gave me all the RAM back. But now I have a system that isn't properly licensed, presumably I won't be able to activate it as it is, so I've got 2 days to enjoy it. With the MSDN key applied, only 4GB RAM is usable. Is there a way round this without a) rebuilding the server from scratch with the MSDN key from the start or b) buying a retail Enterprise license

• Getting 0xc00000e windows 7 "Boot device inaccessible" after random crashes

  I've been having some weird random crashes that I can't seem to locate, and I'm unsure if it's windows or hardware related. It's a brand new computer and very powerful. I've run into a couple of these random crashes, now I don't know what causes them, as it happens during the night, when I'm sleeping. When I wake up, all I see is a boot manager screen that says Exception: 0xc00000e "Boot device inaccessible". A simple restart doesn't fix the problem - it seems to struggle locating my primary hdd - but a complete shutdown works, it'll just fly straight into windows again. The event viewer doesn't tell me much. The most reason incident just gives me this: "The previous system shutdown at 08:55:44 on ?11-?12-?2011 was unexpected." And also a kernel power event: The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly. and I can see only two application event entries around that time at 8.47 (about 8 minutes prior to the crash): The Windows Modules Installer service entered the running state. The WinHTTP Web Proxy Auto-Discovery Service service entered the running state. Can anyone tell me anything about this, or direct me to a forum or something that might know what's wrong? I can supply the extra details of the events too if needed. The hdd is an SSD - could that have anything to do with it? I ran a few diagnostics and memory and hdd should be okay - at least the diagnostics report is clean. Is it a faulty drive?

• How do I change the Dropbox directory on a headless GNU/Linux server?

  I have installed Dropbox 2.0.0 via command line on my home server (Ubuntu Server 12.04) to use for off-site automated backups, but I can't change the directory that the Dropbox daemon keeps synced. I've tried the following: The official docs say to use the desktop application, which is not applicable in my situation. However I installed the desktop app on my desktop machine and changed the default folder location, but I can't find where this change is stored in the ~/.dropbox/ directory so I can make the same change on the server. This page (and several others) recommends a Python script to do the job. Looking at the script, it opens a SQLite database called ~/.dropbox/dropbox.db, which does not exist on my Dropbox install, leading me to believe the script is out-of-date. This forum thread suggests manually inserting the required row in the config.db database, which I did, but it made no difference. I checked the same database file on my desktop machine, and it does not have the dropbox_path key, so I'm presuming the information in that thread is also out of date for version 2.0. I have tried to launch the Dropbox GUI configuration wizard over SSH with X11 forwarding, as suggested in one of the answers, but the binary must detect the absence of a local X11 install and it starts a command line daemon instead, which provides no means to change the option I need. I am currently using a symlink, as suggested as an answer, but this is a kludge. I would like to know the correct way to make the change. How do I change the Dropbox directory on a headless GNU/Linux server? Update: I've ditched Dropbox and started using Copy. Their Linux tools and support is far superior to Dropbox. I leave this question here in case someone, someday, can answer it.

Speakers themselves work fine but when I plug into the headphone jack it auto mutes the front channel and no sounds comes out of either the speakers or the headphones. If I then unmute the channel I get sound from both the speakers and the headphones. alsamixer shows the Headphone channel as all grayed out. /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf I have tried snd-hda-intel model="asus-laptop" and snd-hda-intel model="asus" In Sound Preferences I have gone to output and changed the Connector to 'Analog Headphones' that results in no sound from either speakers or headphones. • Loading a big database dump into PostgreSQL using cat

  I have a pair of very large (~17 GB) database dumps that I want to load into postgresql 9.3. After installing the database packages, learning more or less how to use them, and fiddling around a little on various StackExchange pages (particularly this question), it looks like a proper command for me to use is something like: cat mydb.pgdump | psql mydb because of the format the dump is in. My machine has 16 GB of RAM, and I'm not familiar with the cat command but I do know that my RAM is 99% exhausted and the database is taking a while to load. My machine isn't non-responsive to the point of hanging; I can run other commands in other terminal windows and have them execute at a reasonable clip, but I am wondering if cat is the best way to pipe in the file or if something else is more efficient? My concern is that maybe cat could be using up all the RAM so the database doesn't have much to work with, throttling its performance. But I'm new to thinking about RAM issues like this and don't know if I'm worrying about nothing. Now that I think about it, this seems to be more of a question about cat and its memory usage than anything else. If there is a more appropriate forum for this question please let me know. Thanks!

• Getting prompted for password accessing page through script even when client and server are in same

  I'm trying to pull up an internal webpage in automated fashion using the methods in 'Internetexplorer.Application' using vbscript. But I'm getting prompted for password, although the client and the server both are in the same domain. Predictably when I manually try to access the web page, I don't have any problem. Only when I try using cscript.exe or iexplore.exe, I get prompted. I'm trying to automate some of the smoke test we do after a new build is deployed. But this password prompt is getting in the way. Following are the system specs Client machine - IE 7.0, OS is Windows server 2003 Server machine - Windows Server 2008 Both are in the same domain. So far I've unsuccessfully tried following to automate the password input system.diagnostics.process.start var WinHttpReq = new ActiveXObject("WinHttp.WinHttpRequest.5.1"); WinHttpReq.Open("GET", "http://website", false); WinHttpReq.SetCredentials("username", "password", 0); Nothing seems to work I checked in IIS. we have only anonymous and forms authentication enabled Is there any configuration setting in the client machine that can be tweaked to bypass this, although I'd hate to do it since you step on the toes of twenty people trying to do that. Preferable way would be to programmatically input it if its possible. Also, if you can suggest a more appropriate forum, that'd be great too. Please help.

• Need a recommendation for shared storage on auto-scaling ec2 w/ scalr

  I have come across so many answers to this question that I am completely lost! I am moving our 2 sites to a load balanced ec2 system with scalr as our cloud manager. Now the question is coming up about persistent storage for the user's uploaded content and other files. Could someone please give me a suggestion and possible a link to a tutorial for the following setup and goals. 2 websites (1 Forum, 1 ecommerce). 1 LB 1 App server (to scale out to as many as needed) 1 DB server (to scale out to as many as needed) Our sites will need to autoscale and according to what I am learning about scalr, that means as new instances load up, I need to run a script to set the basics up on that server (git,php mods, pull site from git, move keys, etc) What I don't understand is how should I handle user uploaded content like profile pictures, avatars, product images, themes, etc... Do I mount an EBS or s3fs folder to hold the websites (maybe /var/www/websitefolder) or do I do something like mount the avatar folders /var/www/websitefolder/images/avatars) I am not sure where to go with this. Could someone give me some detailed help? -John

  At first, my mother tongue is not English, so I apologize for the possible mistakes. I'm working on a WS2008R2 server with an Active Directory and a web platform manages this AD with C# code. A group of users have to be able to create user accounts but during the procedure, a disk quota for this new account is (and have to be) created. As the "creator" must not be a member of the Administrators group, the access to the c/: disk is denied. So, I want to perform the File Server Resource Manager operations with C# code by an non-admin account. The code is correct, it works normally with admin account. So, the problem turns around the permissions on the hard drive. I've looked after help on the Internet, without success. It seems that quota delegation is impossible. Only admin can perform this. A colleague helped me a bit, and found the GPO "By pass traverse checking" on a forum but it doesn't seems to be the good way. Any help would be appreciate.

• Windows Phone sync error when syncing with iTunes on different Hard Drive

  I have my iTunes library file on a separate hard drive (which I believe may be the cause of the problem) and I have been trying to use it to synchronize with my Windows Phone. I would like to first note that if I set up my phone to synchronize with 'Windows Libraries', then it works fine. This is however not ideal as I have categorised my music and made playlists etc, on iTunes. When I first link my Windows Phone to the Windows Phone App (for desktop) and select iTunes from the above selection, I get the following error message: After searching that error, I found the following forum threads: Fix for error 8300300B when trying to sync Lumia 920 Windows 8 Phone in PC? • MS Excel 2010 - Using DSN + 32 bit drivers

  I need some advice as im running into a problem and so far i have been unable to find a solution. We have a set of reports developed in MS Excel that use DSN file to connect to data sources to retrieve data, these work fine on 32 / 64bit systems, however we are moving to a terminal server environment using windows 2008 R2 64Bit. The reports fail to run using the DSN's within this environment if we only have the 32bit drivers installed and configured in the ODBC settings, the minute we install the 64Bit drivers the software works. Is there a way / Method of getting Excel or the DSN file to NOT use the 64Bit driver, but force it to use the 32bit driver. ANSWERED - But due to low user score i cannot "answer" my own question... Sadly there is no way to-do what i want to-do, without a lot of very nasty and not 100% perfect reg hacks. • Remotely viewing IP camera on Belkin N450 DB router

  I need to setup a wireless IP camera (Trendnet TV-IP501W) on my network so that it is remotely visible from anywhere. Right now I successfully connected it to my home network but nothing else. My router is a Belkin N450 DB. Any help would be much appreciated, including what this would be referred to as so I could more easily ask another forum. I believe it is something like "port forwarding" but I'm not sure. Ok, I believe I found this in the "virtual servers" section. It asks for enabling with a check box, description, inbound port, type, private IP, & private port. In that order I have checked enabling, "camera", 150, TCP, 81, and 81? I'm assuming inbound ports are the numbers I use for the home network - xxx.xxx.x.150 and the 81 was for private. I used my WAN IP and added :81 and .81 but didn't get it. What am I doing wrong? • Why does clicking on Windows 7 Printer Properties Result In Driver Not Installed?

  The question I need to ask is has anyone heard of getting a "driver not installed" error when clicking on a printer's properties on Windows 7, and is there a workaround? Here are the details of the problem. One of our users has a Windows 7 desktop, and an HP LaserJet 4050 T connected to via a parallel-to-usb converter. The PLC5 universal driver was installed for series 4050 printers. I needed to install the PLC 6 driver, which completed successfully. The user is an administrator of the system, and I was prompted to and accepted running as Administrator to install the driver. After the install, I went to see the 4050's properties and was prompted that the PLC6 driver was not installed. I believe the PLC6 driver was installed, because the PLC5 driver resulted in receiving an official HP error page indicating the printer was "not set up for collating" as the second page of printing two copies of a one page email. This problem did not occur with the PLC 6 driver. Oddly enough, setting back to PLC5 produced the same error about the PLC5 driver not being installed. I ignored/dismissed the error box (did not re-install the driver), and reproduced the error, with the second page being the HP not set up for collating error page. Any thoughts on what is causing this and how to clear it would be appreciated. The closest fix I could find was on a Microsoft tech page, and they had me clear winsock out of a Administrator run command line, followed by a reboot. That did not fix the problem.
