• ASP.NET MVC Resource not found

  I am working on an MVC project in Visual Studio 2010 with .NET Framework 4.0 + MVC2 and everything works if I set the target framework to .NET 4.0. However, my host does not offer .NET 4.0 in order to deploy the site I need to get it working on .NET 3.5. I tried converting it to ASP.NET 3.5 and everything builds just fine except now when I try to load the homepage, I get a 404 Error saying: The resource cannot be found. Description: HTTP 404. The resource you are looking for (or one of its dependencies) could have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. Please review the following URL and make sure that it is spelled correctly. • Error starting Hyper-V VM

  I'm trying to start a VM on a new Hyper-V installation and I'm receiving the following error: The virtual machine could not be started because the hypervisor is not running. The following actions may help you resolve the problem: 1) Verify that the processor of the physical computer has a supported version of hardware-assisted virtualization. 2) Verify that hardware-assisted virtualization and hardware-assisted data execution protection are enabled in the BIOS of the physical computer. (If you edit the BIOS to enable either setting, you must turn off the power to the physical computer and then turn it back on. Resetting the physical computer is not sufficient.) 3) If you have made changes to the Boot Configuration Data store, review these changes to ensure that the hypervisor is configured to launch automatically. My machine supports virtualization at the hardware level and it is enabled in BIOS. Why am I receiving this error?

  Hi guys - I got all of a sudden a number of strange feedback messages from my sites feedback form its where normally users would come and enter feedback and then I would review it on an admin panel.   I am looking for an open-source minimalistic "message board" PHP software. Not a forum, more something like one simple facebook wall. The only thing a user can do is post a new message. With RSS, and able to run on flat files (no database) with Apache+PHP Authentication based on a configuration file, no management UI needed. • unable to access shared drives n win7

  OK, this is doing my head in. Not your usual Win7 sharing problem. Just built a win 7 comp to go onto my home lan and be accessed by all on the network, mostly running XP SP3. Installed it as a single HD+DVD system, got it happy, then added my storage drives, set them up in the right order and letters, rebooted, and shared them. Couldn't access the computer at all from any XP machine. Set the pasword thingy in win7 to NO, and now I can "see" all four shared drives from any machine, but can access only two of them. Please tell me whats going on as I've done nothing different from one drive to the other, just installed and set up drive letters as normal, then shared the damn things. The odd thing about it? the two 1.5T drives that have a lot of data on board are accessable, the two nearly empty 500G ones are not. ANY ideas? Cheers, Colin

• How to sync a folder on a remote computer to a server on a domain

  We have a small remote office that often share data with us. I learned that the data is shared as a email attachment, but that obviously leads to versioning hell and overriding. I am looking for a way for then to synchronize a folder directly on our main office domain controller. I personally use LiveMesh, but I would like a tool that is synchronized to our server directly without a 3rd party hosting the data, since we already have an online backup service taking care of the offsite backup. What enterprise class tool would let us synchronize a folder from a remote computer that is out of our domain, into our the file server of our domain? The synchronization has to be two-way, e.g.: Someone from the remote office will create an invoice. Someone from our office will review it and make modification to it. The remote office need to see the change. Our server is on Windows 2003.

• SLA Violations - Compensation expectations and vague contracts

  Tagging this as cautionary tale. I took over for an admin a year and a half ago, and reviewed the 3 year contract with our ISP. There were no specific SLA promises in the contract that I found, and have been meaning to review the contract with our rep. Of course, we had an outage this past week that resulted in almost four days of downtime !!!!! This involves eff-ups of epic proportions on our ISP's part and a telco they colocate with. Details can be provided. I am the network / systems / purchasing / and helpdesk at my company...and am willing to fight with the ISP. I also have more management that can get involved, including the name on the contract. First, if there are not concrete guarantees about compensation and downtime, we are screwed right? Two, if we want out of our contract, does anyone have experience going the legal route, and if so, who knows a lawyer? =)

• Ubuntu 9.1 Only Sees 244 MB RAM, while BIOS and Windows Sees 1.5 GB

  I have 1.5 GB of RAM installed on an older Dell, Pentium 4. I just installed Ubuntu 9.1 and the system is only seeing 244 MB of RAM, even though there is 1.5 GB on the system. The BIOS sees all of it. I ran a Knoppix disc and it only saw 25 MB upon booting. I made no particular changes to the installation taht would affect this. I looked through the BIOS and the only setting I could see was the AGP aperture. Not even sure what this is. Anyone know where I went wrong? I also tried moving the memory modules around on the board. Booted with the 1 GB stick, still saw 244 MB.

  i'm doing some research on how browsers support TLS-SRP (RFC5054). I know that TLS-SRP is implemented in GnuTLS, OpenSSL as of release 1.0.1, Apache mod_gnutls, cURL, TLS Lite and SecureBlackbox. I don't find any fresh source of information, only this from 2011: http://sim.ivi.co/2011/07/compare-tls-cipher-suites-for-web.html I'm testing them manually at the moment, but as far as i know nobody seems to support it. My interest is then in understanding if browsers are planning to support these ciphersuites in the future, apart from the current state. • Are there pitfalls to using incompatible RAM (frequencies) in motherboards?

  I'd like to use 2 x 4GB DDR3 1600 dimms in a motherboard capable of only DDR3 1066. The DDR3 1600 is on sale and the cost is identical to 1066 dimms. It'd be nice to have these faster sticks around should i upgrade the motherboard. I assume the RAM can under clock itself or be changed in the BIOS. While obviously it's less than ideal situation, I don't know if there are other unintended consequences in terms of stability, performance and longevity of the board and said RAM. Am I doing any damage to the memory controller or RAM? I've always bought RAM at the max speed specified for the motherboard and I've never gone over so I'm not sure if there any caveats to this at all. Edit: I intend to use the RAM in pairs. I know that mixing RAM speeds is just a bad idea.

• Finding out if an IP address is static or dynamic?

  I run a large bulletin board and I get spammers every now and again. My moderation team does a good job filtering them out but every time I IP ban them they seem to come back (I'm pretty sure it's the same person on some occasions, as the post patterns are exactly the same as are the usernames) but I'm afraid to ban them by IP address every time. If they are on a dynamic IP address, I could be banning innocent users later down the line when they try to get to my forum through SERPs, but if I ban only via static IPs I know that I'm only banning that one person. So, is there a way to properly determine if an IP address is static or dynamic? Thanks.

• Should I disable write caching on my Windows 2008 VM?

  I have a Windows Server 2008 x64 Standard virtual machine that runs on a machine with a hardware RAID controller, a Perc 6/i, which has a battery on-board. Doing everything I can for additional performance, I think I should disable this. Is this very dangerous though? My understand is that Battery Backed Write Caching gives a performance boost to the host OS, telling it the write was complete when they are still sitting in flash waiting to be written. However, I can't see how it would be detrimental to performance, but is there a gain (even if marginal) to enabling it / disabling it? P.s. There machine has a backup power. I mainly used it for Graphic Design (eg, Photoshop, Cinema4d, Illustrator, Flash). I was planning to increase my Memory adding 2 GB more, Pushing it to something like 4GB in total. But just found out that recently that I already have 2x2GB installed and should be 4GB in total. When I looked at the properties of my computer, It said "Installed Memory 2GB". I wonder why is that happening? Is the other ram broken?.. I never the computer casing since I bought. so I didn't realize that I already have 2 x 2gb ram. what can you advice. Thanks!

• Only some motherboards can support faster RAM?

  This is a question relating to one of my builds. Here are the specs: ECS P4VXASD2+ V5.0 motherboard Intel P4 Northwood 2.8 GHz (533 MHz FSB, 512 KB L2) 2x 1GB PC3200 DDR RAM Maxtor 300GB IDE HDD 16 MB NVIDIA TNT2 Pro AGP OKIA 300W ATX PSU Gigabyte 52x CD-ROM The issue right now is that I'm trying to install Windows XP from the CD drive but the computer randomly restarts partway through installation. My other build was BSODing due to RAM latency errors. This ECS board manual states that memory modules "up to 333 MHz" (i.e. PC2700) is supported. However, I am running PC3200 modules, which is clearly faster than PC2700. Would this be causing the computer from randomly restarting? EDIT 1: I also wanted to mention that my Emachines T2482 is actually running 2x 512MB PC3200 DDR RAM when it should only be supporting PC1600 and PC2100 DDR RAM. Yet there are no issues with it.

• Tail the filename, not the file

  In UNIX (OS X BSD to be precise), I have a "tail -f" command on a log file. From time to time I want to delete this log file so I can more easily review it in my text editor. I delete the file, and then my program recreates it after new activity. However, my tail command (and anything else that was watching the old log file) doesn't update; it's still watching the old, deleted log file. I think I understand why this is (file names simply being pointers to blocks of file data). I'd like to know how I can work around this. Ideally, my tail command (and anything else I point to the file) would be able to read the data from the new file when the file name has been deleted and recreated. How would I do this?

• Windows Vista MAK keys and Volume Licensing..

  So when I go into the Volume Licensing Service Center and review our current used/available MAK activations, it says #/50. (the # being the number of our currently used). What I'm curious about, so far we only put vista on like 10 of our boxes. But over time, if we format a machine for some reason, then activate it, I'm assuming it will then in a way consume 2 keys? So what happens when we max the 50? Does that mean we have to fork over some more cash to M$? If so that's pretty lame.

  I want a friend of mine to review my code. I have a mic built into my laptop but i can use another software for voice chat. So i would like to have him to either view my screen (taking control might be fine) or show me his screen so he can talk about a specific piece of code. What software is good for this? We both think about security so an MS product (netmeeting? if that still exist on normal msn live installs) or an open source would be preferred. Should be free.

• IBM x260m won't boot from PCI SATA card

  Hi. We ghosted our old Windows 2003 drive to a new 1TB one, and connected through new PCI SATA card. The x260m server fails to boot with error 1962: "Boot sector not found." When we connect the drive directly to motherboard, it boots fine, so the problem is probably in getting BIOS to boot from the SATA card. Has anyone encountered and solved such issue? EDIT: We tried disabling the on-board Sata controller (Hostraid/SAS?), but there is no such option - only enable, enhanced and compatible. Tried also to chance boot device priority to all possible choices - no luck. Thanks in advance!

• How do multiple displays work on a AMD 785G / ATI HD 4200 motherboard?

  I just ordered a ASUS M4A785TD-V EVO which has the AMD 785G chipset and HD4200 integrated graphic. The board has VGA, DVI, and HDMI outputs. I'm wondering how many outputs I can run at once, and from what connectors? My guess is that I can only use the VGA, and either the DVI or the HDMI in a dual setup. But not the HDMI and the DVI at the same time. Is this correct? If I have devices plugged into both the HDMI and the DVI ports is there a way to choose between which port I want to use? I have a dual 19" monitor setup, as well as a LCD TV. I'd like to run the VGA and the DVI into my two monitors, and then the HDMI to my TV. Then when I want to watch something on the TV I'd like to be able to switch over from the DVI to the HDMI. Is this possible with out crawling under my desk and unplugging/plugging things in?

  Right now my setup has a nice big 24" flatscreen in the center, and a 19" flatscreen to the left. And a big gaping hole on the right. I have a 3rd monitor to put there, but I'm not sure how to get the computer to recognize it. Do I need a graphics card with 3 ports? Or can I span the monitors over non SLI-Linked graphics cards? • Computer freezes for 2+ seconds, mouse still moves

  I have this problem on my workstation. The computer would effectively freeze for 2-5 seconds for no apparent reason, then continue as normal. While frozen the mouse would still be movable, but only on one of screens in my multi-screen setup. What can be the likely cause. System: CPU: i7-920 Memory: 12G of Patriot DDR3, 6 modules OS: SLED 11, Suse Linux Enterprise Desktop, using Gnome Main board: Asus P6T Video: two Nvidia 9500GT connected to three displays I am using memory at recommended settings of 8-8-8-1333. It has an XMP profile. Th CPU is a bit overclocked to 3.3 GHz, but my cooling more than allows for it. I ran the computer with all overclocks off and lower memory speed but the issue was still there. Any ideas? Where should I start looking?

• Motherboard max memory supported

  I have an Intel DG965RY motherboard and its specification says it supports 8GB with 533 or 667Mhz RAM sticks and only 4GB with 800Mhz RAM sticks. I am running a 64bit OS. I earlier had 2 X 1GB sticks (800Mhz), so I bought 2 X 2GB sticks (800Mhz) and I underclocked them in the settings to run at 667Mhz. Shouldn't it support all 6GB RAM now? It would be a bummer if I will specifically need 667Mhz sticks thinking that at the worst they will underclock and then run at 667Mhz. I tried this because I saw someone posted at some forum that he put in 4GB+ of RAM in the same board @ 800Mhz and the system uses it all. In my case (On Ubuntu), it only shows 3.2GB as of now (link to Question) so needed to confirm if this is a hardware limitation.

• System fan connection on Mini-ITX server case and motherboard

  The case: Newegg listing for Chenbro ES34169-BK-120 The motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-D525TUD (Newegg has it as well but I can't post more than one link due to being a new user) As far as the question, the system fan I have no idea how to get these to connect to the motherboard. There are two connectors which then go to extension fan cables. So when you connect these, it should be good, but the extension cables are two connectors that go to the system fans and a female molex connector (if you click the Chenbro listing, look at the 6th picture and you'll see the two connections being made and the molex connector just kind of hanging out in the case). Is there a piece I'm missing to get it to connect to the 3 pin sys_fan section of the board? Thanks,
