• how to correctly mount fat32 partition in Ubuntu in order to preserve case

  I've found there are couple of problems might be related how my FAT32 partition was mounted. I hope you can help me to solve the problem. I also included the command I used to help others when they find this post, sorry to those might feel I should use less space. • Migrating away from LVM

  I have an Ubuntu home media server setup with 4.5TB split across a few hard-drives (1x3TB, 2x1TB) and I'm using LVM2 to manage the volumes. I have recently added a 60GB SSD to my server, and I wish to use it to house the 'root' partition of my server (which is currently under the LVM group). I don't want to simply add it to the LVM volume group, because (afaik) there's no way to ensure that the SSD will be used for the root filesystem. If I just throw it at the VG, it may be used to house my media, which would defeat the purpose of having the SSD in the first place. I feel that my only solution is to somehow remove my root partition from the LVM setup and copy it across to the SSD. My boot partition is, of course, not part of the LVM group. My disk setup is as follows: 60GB SSD: EMPTY. 1TB HDD: /boot, LVM space. 1TB HDD: LVM space. 3TB HHD: LVM space. I have a few logical volumes. my root (/), a 'media' volume for my media collection, a backup one for my network backups.etc. Does anyone have any advice as to how to go about this? My end goal is to have the 60GB SSD used for my boot and root partitions, with everything else on the 3TB/1TB/1TB hard-drives.

• Exchange backup verification shows no files

  [SBS2003SP2] If i read the exhange log it shows the backup contains no files just folders and the total size seems to be Ok. I i try to restore the folders are empty... But the 14 files that where backupped dissapeared in the verification log?! Other backups on the same medium turned out to be fine. Any idea what's wrong here? • Graphite not running

  I'm currently trying to install graphite 0.9.9 on a gentoo box using these instructions from the graphite wiki. Essentially, it fronts graphite using apache and mod_wsgi. Everything seems to have gone well, except that apache / the graphite webapp never seem to return a response to the web browser (the browser continuously waits to load the page). I've turned on the graphite debug info, but the only message in the log files is this, repeated over and over again in info.log (with the pid always changing): Thu Feb 23 01:59:38 2012 :: graphite.wsgi - pid 4810 - reloading search index These instructions have worked for me before to set up graphite on an Ubuntu machine. • I need to preserve a tape using symantec backup exec. I'm aving trouble doing so

  Please forgive me if this is the wrong stack exchange site. Please suggest which one I should post this to if it is. There's an automatic tape machine running in a remote location, with software (symantec backup exec 11d) Recently one of the servers being backed up had problems with its raid controller, so one of the drives has become invisible. I need to preserve the last good backup of that drive so I am trying to replace the tape with the most recent backup of that drive on it with one of the scratch tapes (blank tapes) present in the machine. I've tried the following... Associate the blank media with the media set in question (Wednesday) For the existing media (the tape with the data I want to keep) I click 'move to vault' and move it to the offline vault. I associate it with something other than 'Wednesday' (a media set called 'keep data infinitely...') I then do an inventory on that slot. The above steps I'm led to believe are supposed to put the fresh tape in the slot that had the tape I want to keep in it. But it just keeps showing up as containing the tape I want to keep after the inventory. (after refreshing the device tree) I am a complete newbie with this software. Can you tell me what I'm doing wrong, and/or tell me how to acheive my desired goal Edit: Just want to point out that I did try to get help directly from symantec with this, but having jumped through countless hoops to create an account and create a support ticket my progress was halted by requiring something called a 'tecnical contact id' at the final step with no explanation of what it is or how to get one.

• Mirror your display to another computer on your network

  I have a computer I am using for showing media, running windows 7 (XBMC). It is hooked up with a projector. I want other computers on my network to have the opportunity to mirror their display to this computer.(without the media computer having to accept it, it should be all controlled by the sending computer.(like sending a movie with Apple's Airplay)) One scenario: I am finding a webpage with a great article (or a Word document) on my computer that i want to show to the other people in the room, i press a button, then my screen is mirrored to the media pc. I can still scroll, write etc. so everybody can see it. When i am done showing the article, I can exit the display mirroring, and the media computer display goes back to normal. This should mirror the whole screen, not only the browser like plugins can do in chrome, or sending Youtube movies like plugins for Opera. Update I found a video example of the solution I am looking for, unfortunately it looks like it will be hard making a Chromecast reciever for windows. Using the "Cast entire screen (experimentally)" button on the Chromecast plugin in Chrome is doing the exact thing I want to do, see this video.

• jquery .hide() bug in safari

  ive been having issues with this hide bug thats only affecting safari. This is a simple vertical scroller that hides the first element in the list then shows the last. and works in everything apart from safari. the problem seems to be that the divs im working with here share the same class but have unique ids like #mycollectioncomment1, #mycollectioncomment2, #mycollectioncomment3 etc... however hiding just one of these divs hides all the other divs that share the same class. • Enable DreamScene in Any Version of Vista or Windows 7

  Windows DreamScene was a utility available for Vista Ultimate that allowed users to set video as desktop wallpaper. It was dropped in Windows 7, but we’ll take a look at how to play DreamScenes in all versions of Windows 7 or Vista. Downloading DreamScenes First, you’ll need to find some DreamScenes to download. We’ve found some nice ones at both DreamScene.org and DeviantArt. You can find those download links at the end of the article. They’ll come as compressed files, so you’ll need to extract them after downloading. Windows 7 DreamScene Activator If you are running Windows 7 you can use Windows 7 DreamScene Activator. This free portable utility enables DreamScene in both 32 & 64 bit versions of Windows 7. Users can then set either MPG or WMV files as desktop wallpaper. Download and extract the Windows 7 DreamScene Activator (link below). Once extracted, you’ll need to run the application as administrator. Right-click on the .exe and select Run as administrator. Click on Enable DreamScene. This will also restart Windows Explorer if it is open. To play your DreamScene, browse for the file in Windows Explorer, right-click the file and select Set as Desktop Background. Enjoy your new Windows 7 DreamScene.   Although it says it is for Windows 7 only, we were able to get it to work with no problems on Vista Home Premium x32 as well.   You can Pause the DreamScene at anytime by right-clicking on the desktop and selecting Pause DreamScene.   When you are ready for a change, click Disable DreamScene and switch back to your previous wallpaper. Using VLC Media Player Users of all versions of Windows 7 & Vista can enable a DreamScene using VLC. Recently, we showed you how to set a video as your desktop wallpaper in VLC.  Since DreamScenes are in MPEG or WMV format, we will use the same tactic to display them as desktop wallpaper. We’ll just need to make a few additional tweaks to the VLC settings. You’ll need to download and install VLC media player if you don’t already have it. You can find the download link below. Next, select Tools > Preferences from the Menu. Select the Video button on the left and then choose DirectX video output from the Output dropdown list. Next, select All under Show Settings at the lower left, then select the Video button on the left pane. Uncheck Show media title on video. This will prevent VLC from constantly showing the title of the video on the screen each time the video loops. Click Save and the restart VLC.   Now we will add the video to our playlist and set it to continuously loop. Select View > Playlist from the Menu. Select the Add file button from the bottom of the Playlist window and select Add file.   Browse for your file and click Open.   Click the Loop button at the bottom so the video plays in a continuous loop.   Now, we’re ready to play the video. After the video starts playing, select Video > DirectX Wallpaper from the Menu, then minimize VLC.   If you’re using Aero Themes, you may get a pop-up warning and Windows will switch automatically to a basic theme.   If looping one video gets to be a little repetitive, you can add multiple videos to your playlist in VLC and loop the entire playlist. Just make sure you toggle the Loop button on the playlist window to Loop All. Now you’ve got a nice DreamScene playing on your desktop. Another cool trick you can do with VLC is take snapshots of favorite movie scenes and set them as backgrounds. When you’re ready to go back to your old wallpaper, maximize VLC, select Video and click DirectX Wallpaper again to turn it off the video background. Occasionally we were left with a black screen and had to manually change our wallpaper back to normal even after turning off the DirectX Wallpaper. Note: Keep in mind that using the VLC method takes up a lot of resources so if you try to run it on older hardware, or say a netbook, you’re not going to get good results. We also tried to use the VLC method in XP, but couldn’t get it to work. If you have leave a comment and let us know. While the DreamScene feature never really caught on in Vista, we find them to be a cool way to pump a little life into your desktop on any version of Vista or Windows 7. • How to setup equivalent USVIDEO.ORG DNS-Proxy on Linux

  I have a VPS in the USA running Ubuntu. I want to setup something similar to http://www.usvideo.org Basically, USVIDEO is a DNS service that allows Canadians to access American content like Hulu, Netflix, NBC, and etc (restricted by geographical IP). Here is how I think USVideo does it: Clients (PS3, XBOX, PC) specifies the DNS server(s) as specified on USVIDEO.org's website. If the DNS request is a video/audio site such as Netflix or Pandora, forward the request to a proxy. Otherwise, for all other requests, forward it to a different DNS server. If the specific video/audio URL is requested, return the address of the proxy server, which in turn relays traffic to the destination video/audio domain via the U.S. gateway so that it appears that the access is coming from a U.S. IP address. Once the DNS request has passed the U.S. IP address check, their proxy server steps out of the loop and lets the video streaming site contact you directly to start the video stream. This trick relies on the way that the video streaming sites check the country of your IP address once up front, but don't actually check the country of the destination IP address while the video is streaming. What is elegant about this solution is that a VPN Tunnel is not required to bypass geographical IP checks from certain websites. All that is required on the client side is to specify the DNS server (the VPS). If a certain site is geographically locked, just forward the traffic to a proxy, and that's it. These sites can be specified in the DNS entries, or perhaps in the proxy service to redirect the DNS request to its own proxy. I believe what I need to setup something similar is Squid Proxy, IPTables, and DNS. What I need help is how to exactly approach this? Would Squid Proxy be setup as a transparent proxy?

• Nginx, HAproxy, Unicorn, Rails and Node settings

  Our application is currently only a "regular" web app, with no fancy things like streaming HTTP or websockets. It's mostly a Rails app, served by a few (20 on 2 machines) Unicorn workers, proxied by a venerable nginx server which deals with load balancing. This has been working quite well for the past year and the app now serves between 400 and 800 requests per second at any point during the day. We're soon releasing 2 new APIs, which are both served by a Node application : a websocket one, as well as a long polling HTTP one. (the fancy thing like the Twitter streaming API where HTTP connections never end). They both use the same port on node and since the node app is stateless, we can certainly deploy a few of them to handle the traffic. The app (node) is now deployed in 5 instances and are now listening on 5 different 'private' ports on the same host. We need to put something in front of them to load balance, but also something that is able to deal with sockets (either websocket or HTTP streaming) which are intended to stay 'up' for days. The question is then : what? I read somewhere that HAProxy does a better job than Nginx at this. What do you recommend?

Any ideas? Doesn't make sense to me why there should be this routing issue :( The Draytek Dual WAN Router was rebooted, the PC was rebooted. The PC had the network disabled and then re-enabled. All the standard stuff when Windows looses the plot. Hopefully somebody recognises the symptoms! PS: Sorry for the long post, but I didn't want to leave something potentially relevant out. PPS: No iSCSI involved on/at this or any other workstation so Windows 7 routing traffic through the gateway for local addresses isn't the issue.

• Nginx flv audio pseudo stream works but video is not loading

  I am working on a development server for a company & they want nginx webserver to work with. So the requirements for their company is, it should be capable of doing following things i.e hotlink protection, mp4 & flv pseudo stream & secure streaming. However nginx fulfills their requirements and i am configuring their server from past 2 days as i am new to this field so i've only acheived hotlinking prevention in past 2 days. But the problem on which i am stuck is flv pseudo streaming, to make work to mp4 pseudo stream it was just a piece of paper but i am really fuc*ed up with flv pseudo stream. I have converted my flv videos with flvmdi tools to insert many keyframes but the problem is , when i try to seek video from following keyframes that are generated by flvmdi i.e test.flv?start=2681223, video does not load but audio pseudo works fine. So it means no problem with my flv configuration in nginx.conf file. And the forum that i used to compile my nginx-1.2.1 is http://h264.code-shop.com/trac/wiki/Mod-H264-Streaming-Nginx-Version2 & by adding additional module --with-http_flv_module. This forum is really active, hopes i will resolve my problem as soon as you guys will provide me some guide.

But under XP the logic contained within FireAttackProc gets executed but none of the sound clips play. Is there a quick solution to this so the sound will play under XP? I ask for a quick solution because i am happy being able to execute fully in Vista/Win7 but would be great if there was a quick solution so it would be XP compitable also. Thank you.

I followed some online tutorial and have done these: sudo mkdir /media/FAT32 sudo chmod 777 /media/FAT32 sudo mount /dev/sda6/ /media/FAT32 after I mounted the file, I can only read but not be able to write to it. I checked the file permission, it becomes: drwxr-xr-x but after I unmounted the it then becomes drwxrwxrwx and I can read and write to it. very strange. I don't know where I've down wrong. Cheers.

  I am using sample code of AudioStream.zip,but when i use this to play Mp3 file , it gives wrong total amount of playing time(after played completely through streaming).... i checked through downloading that Mp3 file into Document Directory and played in Itune it exactly is played for 2.10 seconds.but in streaming through that code(- (double)progress method) gives total playing time only 2.3 sec, is there any sample code for AudioStreaming except that one to give right Total playing Time?

  I am trying to mount a network drive via AFP on an Ubuntu 10.04 server machine. After installing AFP support, I use the following command: sudo mount_afp afp://USER:[email protected]/directory/ /media/dir This seems to work and it tells me that mounting succeeded. However, when I navigate to /media/dir I get the following error: cd: cfs: Input/output error Permissions in /media are: d????????? ? ? ? ? dir/ drwx------ 12 user 4.0K 2010-10-25 16:08 otherdisk/ So there is a permissions problem here. I eventually want to mount this drive automatically using fstab. What do I need to do to make the disk accessible?

  I'm currently setting up WordPress on an Ubuntu server 12 everything runs fine but there is an issue when it comes to automatically updating and uploading media via WP as Apache "www-data" user does not have permissions to write to the directories. "user1" has full permission All my directories have permissions of 0755 and files 644 my directories setup is as follows: /home/user1/public_html All WP files and directories are in "public_html" In order to work around the auto updating and uploading media I've granted Apache user ownership to the following directories sudo chown www-data:www-data wp-content -R sudo chown www-data:www-data wp-includes -R sudo chown www-data:www-data wp-admin -R I would like to know security wise how secure this is and if it is not secure what would be the best solution? That will allow me to keep all files and directories owned by user1 and still allow wp to be able to automatically update and uploading media

• Repointing iTunes library from failed external drive to local drive

  Up until recently I had my iTunes library on an external drive, but the drive was beginning to act up, so as a precaution, I copied all the media files onto my local hard-drive. My external drive is now completely dead, so I'm in a situation where iTunes is still looking for the files on my F: drive, but the drive is gone, so the library references are now all broken links. A complete copy of the library is on my C: drive, so I'm curious what would be the easiest way to repoint my library to the media files on C:? Should I just clear out my library in iTunes and just import the files from C:? Or is there a more automatic way? I don't think I can use the "Consolidate Library" function in iTunes, b/c I no longer have access to the original library media files.
