How expensive are local variables (var v), global variables (window.v) and cross-global variables (parent.v) in JavaScript, in the major browsers? Has anyone performed any good tests on this one?
In an interpreted language like PHP it is possible in theory to set up some sort of callback function that would be run indiscriminately after every line of code. I am wondering if such a thing exists in PHP or if such a thing could be accomplished in any way? Such a feature could be useful for diagnostics or performance tests. Does anyone know of such a mechanism in PHP?
Hello, I'm a web services newbie and I've tried to learn it looking for tutorials in google... but I didn't found anything really helpfull...
Do you know any tutorial / web page / documentation for web services using PHP 5 native SOAP client? I need to implement a SOAP client for fetch/send data from a IIS server (for hotels reservations).
Is there some server that I can make tests with?
Thank you!
If you have a C++ project that has a bunch of .ODL files and the generated .h files from the ODL compiler, should doxygen be told to parse both .odl and .h, or only one or the other? In general I don't like documenting generated code but IDL is sort of a special case.
In any case, it seems like the member listing of ODL files is not quite working properly in my tests, are ODL files properly parsed?
I have a number of classes that are decorated with DebuggerDisplayAttribute.
I want to be able to add trace statements to Unit Tests that will display instances of these classes.
Does there exist a method in the .NET Framework that will display an object formatted using DebuggerDisplayAttribute (or fall back to using .ToString() if no DebuggerDisplayAttribute is defined)?
How do you test your app for Iñtërnâtiônàlizætiøn compliance? I tell people to store the Unicode string Iñtërnâtiônàlizætiøn into each field and then see if it is displayed correctly on output.
--- including output as a cell's content in Excel reports, in rtf format for docs, xml files, etc.
What other tests should be done?
I'm trying to run the unit tests from the gflags project, and I'd like
to know how to run them and what unit testing framework it is using to
do this.
I'm using Visual Studio 2005.
I intend to perform some automated integration tests. This requires the db to be put back into a 'clean state'. Is this the fastest/best way to do this?
var cfg = new Configuration();
cfg.Configure();
cfg.AddAssembly("Bla");
new SchemaExport(cfg).Execute(false, true, false);
After profiling a large game playing program, I have found that the library function rand() is consuming a considerable fraction of the total processing time. My requirements for the random number generator are not very onerous - its not important that it pass a great battery of statistical tests of pure randomness. I just want something cheap and cheerful that is very fast. Any suggestions?
The beginnings of a site here:

html and css pass validation tests
Page displays fine in all Mac browsers I have tried (Safari, Firefox, Camino)
Page displays fine in Windows 7 FireFox
Nothing but background renders in Explorer 8 Windows 7 (and in other Explorer versions via screenshot services.) View Source shows that Explorer is getting the content - it's just not appearing on screen.
No idea how to approach addressing this - any suggestions would REALLY be appreciated.
Thanks a million.
Are there exists an simple AMPQ server/broker implementation written in Java?
I need it only for local integration tests, starting it from ant/maven, and i don't need any features like a clustering, persistence, performance and so on. Just a fake RabbitMQ-like instance, without installation (just as a dependency at maven pom) and configuration.
I am creating a unit test in mstest with rhino mocks. I have a class A that inherits class B. I am testing class A and create an instance of it for my test. The class it inherits, "B", has some protected methods and protected properties that I would like to access for the benefit of my tests. For example, validate that a protected property on my base class has the expected value.
Any ideas how I might access these protected properties of class B during my test?
In XCode, is there a way to specify that all files in a folder are compiled by a target. Eg. the 'Test' target automatically compiles all files in the 'Tests' folder, whereas the 'App' target compiles everything in the 'Sources' folder. Today, the way I'm doing it, is to add a file to a target everytime I create it. This feels a bit error prone and redundant since the files are already organized in the correct folders.
Thanks.
Hi - I need to write some junit tests on java code that calls Math.random(). I know that I can set the seed if I was instantiating my own Random object to produce repeatable results. Is there a way to do this also for Math.random() ?
Art of Test produced a nice UI testing tool for free -- WebAii Framework-- that I've been using to add client-side DOM unit tests to my projects. Recently they merged with Telerik and it's now a commercial product. From free to $1500 is suddenly very expensive. Does anybody know if the community edition is still available, or even the last free version is available for download? At least I can finish off with that.
I have a class and few functions that I need to test against multiple sets of data. I load these data from flat files. I understand that I can load a file in the setUp() method and run my tests, but how do I load multiple sets of data and test the same functions against those data?
Hi,
I'm using Visual Studio Team System 2008 to run Load Tests.
I have a test that executes a web service request and I would like to know how much
time was spent in each layer of my application e.g.
Time spent in IIS,
Time spent in my Server application
Time spent in SQL Server
Can I get this sort of information by setting the performance counters in
my load test properly?
Thanks
(Context: running autohotkey scripts to try and automate some tests. The plan is to take screenshots and then compare them to 'standard' screenshots to detect if output has changed).
Is there a 'clever' way to check if two png images are different?
By clever I mean other than comparing them byte by byte? (after having compared their size, obviously)
Hi
I would like to know about any Test Automation Solution adopted in Middle ware Testing. Is it similar to automation solutions provided for functional tests? I would like to know in what ways it is similar / different than Functional test automation.
What are the tools which can be used to accomplish test automation in Middleware testing?
I'm trying to write fully automated unit tests in JavaScript and I'm looking for a way to read some private variables in various JS functions. I thought I recalled a way to inject privileged members into a function/object (and found an overwhelming occurrence of "no such thing as private in JS") and yet I can't find any resources indicating how.
I'm trying to read through the properties of .prototype but if there's a way, someone out here would know where to direct me faster than I'd find on my own.
Thanks
I have this in one of my NUnit tests. I'm using R# to step through my test. The console window is not popping up to show me the contents for that foreach loop...not sure what I'm missing but yes, there is data for it to loop through so it's not like there's no data here
foreach (PostEntry post in posts)
{
Console.WriteLine("id: " + post.Id);
Console.WriteLine("title: " + post.Title);
Console.WriteLine("body: " + post.Body);
Console.ReadLine();
}
How to log only failures in an external file, from php unit? I want the complete information, including actual value, expected value, line number etc. Right now I am using fwrite and logging all pass and fail tests into a file, is there a better way to do it?
When I try to run a new TestMethod on an existing TestClass in Visual Studio 2010 (by right-clicking on the method name and choosing Run Tests) the test method does not execute.
After a restart of VS, the problem has gone.
Am I missing some refresh thing, or is right-clicking even the correct way of executing a single test method?
I have this loop
for (it= someCollection.iterator; it.hasNext(); )
{
//some code here
}
I changed it to:
for (it= someCollection.iterator;; )
{
if (!it.hasNext())
break;
//some code here
}
The second code ran a little bit faster in unit tests in junit on eclipse.
Is the second loop faster? I'm asking because the times given by Junit are not too exact, but they give an approximate value
I am trying to add unit tests to my iPhone project in Xcode. Everything works, its great. Except when I am adding a class.m that uses CGRect (or other structs, CGPoint etc) to the unit test target (under "Compile Sources") - I am getting a compilation error: "'CGRect' undeclared (first use in this function)". I tried messing with my unit test target in various ways, but so far I haven't been able to get past this. What am I missing?
