  Hello How often QA engineers are responsible for developing Mock Objects for Unit Testing. So dealing with Mock Objects is just developer job ?. The reason i ask is i'm interested in QA as my career and am learning tools like JUnit , TestNG and couple of frameworks. I just want to know until what level of unit testing is done by developer and from what point QA engineer takes over testing for better test coverage ? • How to reduce errors in dynamic language such as python, and improve my code quality

  I post the origin question in stackoverflow, some people suggest me to post here I've always have trouble with dynamic language like Python. Several problems: Typo error, I can use pylint to reduce some of these errors. But there's still some errors that pylint can not figure out. Object type error, I often forgot what type of the parameter is, int? str? some object? Also, forgot the type of some object in my code. Unit test might help me sometimes, but I'm not always have enough time to do UT. When I need a script to do a small job, the line of code are 100 - 200 lines, not big, but I don't have time to do the unit test, because I need to use the script as soon as possible. So, many errors appear. So, any idea on how to reduce the number of these problems?

• Are "Compile to JavaScript" Frameworks Hostile to Continuous Integration?

  Lately we've been looking at ways to improve automated testing and related tooling of our enterprise-level GWT web app. I've realized that in some ways, GWT is a bit hostile to automated testing, mainly because of the nature of the long GWT compile times from Java to JS. This makes unit testing somewhat challenging, but it also puts some roadblocks up for testing in a CI environment. I've also found out that some of our build and deployment processes are somewhat complicated due to the nature of GWT's compile process. Is this a general problem for "compile to JS" frameworks for webapps? I don't have much experience with them, but I can see some potential problems for automated testing and continuous integration and deployment. Some issues I see: Long build and compile times preventing quick deployments Language the app is developed in != JS, preventing good unit testing Obfuscated JS in the actual app makes it more like a executable than a web app Are these issues present in other similar frameworks, or is this more a GWT issue?

  I have one link unit above my navigation which targets exact keywords on what my site is about, on contrary my adsense for content Leadbord and Wide Skyscraper show ads that are totally opposite from my keyword,while my ctr increased for about 10 times with link unit I noticed cpc is lower also (but that was just based on one day, today is higher). Is it so bad to completly get rid of standard content ads and put link units, because this way I earn so little for that site but I think that is because smart pricing (accidental clicks on ads that my users are not interested)? I earn in whole day with about 25-35 clicks as much as keyword tool shows for only one click,my site is first for the topic? I really don't know what to do.. Has anyone had similar situation or can give some advice?

• Efficient way to calculate "vision cones" on 2D tile map?

  I'm trying to calculate which tiles a particular unit can "see" if facing a certain direction on a tile map (within a certain range and angle of facing). The easiest way would be to draw a certain number of tiles outward and raycast to each tile. However, I'm hoping for something slightly more efficient. A picture says a thousand words: The red dot is the unit (who's facing upwards). My goal is to calculate the yellow tiles. The green blocks are walls (walls are between tiles, and it's easy to check if you can pass between two tiles). The blue line represents something like the "raycasting" method I was talking about, but I'd rather not have to do this. EDIT: Units can only be facing north/south/east/west (0, 90, 180, or 270 degrees) and FoV is always 90 degrees. Should simplify some calculations. I'm thinking there's some sort of recursive-ish/stack-based/queue-based algorithm, but I can't quite figure it out. Thanks!

We write one failing unit test and make it pass as simply as possible. What are the benefits to this approach over writing many failing unit tests for a class and make them all pass in one go. The test suite still protects you against writing incorrect code or making mistakes in the refactoring stage, and code coverage should be just as high, so what's the harm? Sometimes it's easier to write all the tests first as a form of 'brain dump' to quickly write down all the expected behavior in one go.

  What's the concensus for doing in-browser (either headless or remote-controlled) testing of javascript? Unit testing my JS is nice, but can't protect against irresponsible changes to the DOM. Unit testing of the JS and functional testing of the views to make sure they both provide and utilize the same, correct DOM, might work, but then the link between JS and DOM is being covered in two places which seems brittle or cumbersome. Is there an acknowledged "Rails Way" to implement full-stack tests, where I can run my javascript against the DOM rendered by the rest of the app, and check the results? (Something like what PHPUnit and Selenium give us, but inside the rails framework?)

• Converting OCaml to F#: F# equivelent of Pervasives at_exit

  I am converting the OCaml Format module to F# and tracked a problem back to a use of the OCaml Pervasives at_exit. val at_exit : (unit -> unit) -> unit Register the given function to be called at program termination time. The functions registered with at_exit will be called when the program executes exit, or terminates, either normally or because of an uncaught exception. The functions are called in "last in, first out" order: the function most recently added with at_exit is called first. In the process of conversion I commented out the line as the compiler did not flag it as being needed and I was not expecting an event in the code. I checked the FSharp.PowerPack.Compatibility.PervasivesModule for at_exit using VS Object Browser and found none. I did find how to run code "at_exit"? and How do I write an exit handler for an F# application? The OCaml line is at_exit print_flush with print_flush signature: val print_flush : (unit -> unit) Also in looking at the use of it during a debug session of the OCaml code, it looks like at_exit is called both at the end of initialization and at the end of each use of a call to the module. Any suggestions, hints on how to do this. This will be my first event in F#. EDIT Here is some of what I have learned about the Format module that should shed some light on the problem. The Format module is a library of functions for basic pretty printer commands of simple OCaml values such as int, bool, string. The format module has commands like print_string, but also some commands to say put the next line in a bounded box, think new set of left and right margins. So one could write: print_string "Hello" or open_box 0; print_string "<<"; open_box 0; print_string "p \/ q ==> r"; close_box(); print_string ">>"; close_box() The commands such as open_box and print_string are handled by a loop that interprets the commands and then decides wither to print on the current line or advance to the next line. The commands are held in a queue and there is a state record to hold mutable values such as left and right margin. The queue and state needs to be primed, which from debugging the test cases against working OCaml code appears to be done at the end of initialization of the module but before the first call is made to any function in the Format module. The queue and state is cleaned up and primed again for the next set of commands by the use of mechanisms for at_exit that recognize that the last matching frame for the initial call to the format modules has been removed thus triggering the call to at_exit which pushes out any remaining command in the queue and re-initializes the queue and state. So the sequencing of the calls to print_flush is critical and appears to be at more than what the OCaml documentation states.

  I would like to make a 2D game with one codebase that runs on iPhone, Android, and web (any flavour of web -- HTML5, Flash, Silverlight, etc.) What are my options? I should be able to write my code once, and run it anywhere. I also absolutely need the ability to write unit tests (or write a unit-testing framework) -- I cannot make sizable games without testing. Unity is good, but unity is 3d; even with hacks, the graphical assets will still be 3d. I'm after 2d, not 3d. (If you need a Mac or separate licensing for the Mac part, that's okay.)

The tools I used were the latest versions of: My 64-bit development PC running Windows 8 Update with 8Gb RAM Visual Studio 2013 Ultimate with SP2 ReSharper GhostDoc Pro My first attempt had to be abandoned due to collision of class names which broke one of the unit tests. So being aware of this duplication of class names, I started again and planned to prepend the class names with the namespace name. In some cases I additionally prepended the item of the C5 collection that was being tested. So what was the condition of code at the start? Besides the sprawl of C# code not written to style cop standard, there was: 1) Placing of many classes within one physical file. 2) Namespace within name space that did not follow the project structure. 3) As already mentioned, duplication of class names across namespaces. 4) A copyright notice that spawled but had to be preserved. 5) Project sub-folders were all lower case instead of initial letter capitalised. The first step was to add a stylecop heading plus the original heading contained within a region, to every file. The next step was to run GhostDoc Pro using its “Document File” option on every file but not letting it replace the headers, I had added. This brought the number of issues down to 18,192. I then went through each file collapsing each class and prepending names as appropriate. At each step, I saved the changes to my local Git. The step was to move each class to its own file and to style-cop each file. ReSharper provides a very useful feature for doing this which also fixes missing “this.” and moves using statements inside the namespace. Some classes required minimal work whereas others required extensive work to reach the stylecop standard. The unit tests were run at each split and when each class was completed. When all was done, one issue remained which I will need to submit to stylecop team for their advice (and possibly a fix to stylecop). • Why can't I get 100% code coverage on a method that calls a constructor of a generic type?

  Today I came across a wierd issue in a Visual Studio 2008 Code Coverage Analysis. Consider the following method:  private IController GetController<T>(IContext context) where T : IController, new() {     IController controller = new T();     controller.ListeningContext = context;     controller.Plugin = this;     return controller; } This method is called in a unit test as follows (MenuController has an empty constructor): controller = plugin.GetController<MenuController>(null);  After calling this method from a Unit Test, the following code coverage report is generated: As you can see, Code Coverage is only 85%. Looking up the code results in the following: Apparently, the call to the constructor of the generic type is considered only partly covered. WHY? Google didn't help. And MSDN didn't help at all, of course. Anybody who does know?

• Sonar Analysis crashing with default configuration in Maven

  I'm starting to experiment with Sonar, and having trouble. I'm running everything on the same Red Hat Linux server, against Java 1.6.10. I launched the server with "bin/linux-x86-32" (the JVM is 32-bit). The sonar.log shows no SEVERE or ERROR and one WARNING, that I'm using the default Derby database (I'll fix that once I get things running at all). I am trying to build a Maven project that builds a JAR. I made no Sonar-specific changes (other than one described below). I can run "mvn clean install" with no problem. However, if I then run "mvn -e sonar:sonar", I get the stacktrace listed below. The server logs no events. I added the dependency "commons-pool:commons-pool:20030825.183949, but to no avail. • Rebuilding array on 3ware 9690SA-8I

  I have a RAID10 (8x1TB) array on a 3ware 9690 card running on an Ubuntu 1110 server. There was a kernel update so I scheduled a reboot after which the array was inaccessible. I checked the status a drive has died in the array, but the controller has thrown the entire array into an 'inoperable' state instead of simply degraded (what's the point of the RAID now ;-). After taking out the 'dead' drive I run a quick test to find it completely functional without a bad sector to be found. I try to put the drive back in but the array still marks the disk as degraded (remembering serial number or something??) and the entire array as inoperable... So I swap it out for a known working drive (not the same capacity but higher - should still work) and initiate a rebuild with the the new drive as a replacement. This fails instantly with the error "(0x0B:0x0033): Unit busy : Failed to start Rebuild on Unit 0". The unit shouldn't be busy as it is not mounted (the card itself is listed with lshw but the array it provides is not). I'm pretty much at an impasse now, I don't understand how I can have a single drive failure on a RAID10 that makes the entire array inaccessible, degraded I could understand but inaccessible?? I don't think the controller as prior to the reboot it was completely functional.

• Debian and Multipath IO problem

  Basically the situation is, I have a box running Debian, the box internally has an Intel SCSI RAID controller which is controlling 2 hard drives in RAID1 mode which is where the OS is installed. Further, I have a QLogic fiber channel adapter that connects the unit to a Fiber Channel SAN. My process of installation is I'll install Debian to the local drives, and leave the QLogic firmware out of it for the time being. Then once I get the unit online, I'll install the firmware drivers. This flops my internal drives from /dev/sda to /dev/sdc, which is a bit annoying, but recoverable. Probably should address these by UUID anyways. Once I get back online, I have to install multipath-tools (the framework is a multipath framework). However, once I reboot the machine again, it fails on boot after discovering multipath targets, saying my local drives are busy and cannot be mounted to /root. Any help in what may be the problem here? Or at least how to disable multipath until after the unit boots and then ignores the internal drives?

• Linux Mounting Problem

  I have an Iomega Network Attached Storage device on my Windows network. I am trying to use a clonezilla live USB flash drive to backup my netbook to my Iomega Network Attached Storage device. The clonezilla USB flash drive runs linux. I'm having trouble getting the Network Attached Storage unit to mount using the following command: mount -t cifs -o username="myUsername" //192.168.1.100/backup /home/partimg The response from linux is: [134.730738] CIFS VFS: cifs_mount failed w/return code = -6 retrying with upper case share name [134.788461] CIFS VFS: cifs_mount failed w/return code = -6 mount error(6): No such device or address Refer to the mount.cifs(8) manual page (e.g. man mount.cifs) I also tried adding the following to my username: username="myUsername,domain=workgroup" but that did not change the error. I am able to ping the network attached storage unit from linux on my netbook. I also booted from a Slax Live USB Flash Drive and Slax auto-mounted my network attached storage unit via Samba. Unfortunately, I don't believe that I can run clonezilla from inside the Slax installation. Does anyone have any insight about what is wrong with my mount statement? Or is there something peculiar about Iomega drives which makes this impossible?

  So I am learning how to use systemd to initialize my services automatically on server reboot. So of course, I first make sure I have systemd and some optional systemd related packages installed. pacman -S systemd initscripts-systemd Installation seems to go well and checking, I can see that systemd and its dependency libsystemd are installed. So the question is, how do I do that? How do I put my cherokee initialization script under systemd's control?

• Wireless card on HP laptop not working

  I just bought an HP Envy m6-1125dx online from Best Buy. When I got it home and started it up, the wireless card did not work well - at all. I could connect, but any real usage would cause the connection to start dropping every 30 seconds or so, and it would be really slow. Taking another look at the reviews on the Best Buy site, it seems only a few others had this problem, so I took it to my local Best Buy and exchanged it for another unit. Got it home again and the card had the same issues. Which leads to my dilemma. First: does this model have several different cards that it could come with? Mine is a Ralink RT5390R (on both units I received). If it does, then I can keep exchanging until I get a unit with a different card. I wouldn't ask this, except it seems weird that only a few people mentioned this issue, so I thought that might be one possibility. I looked in to replacing the card with a different one myself, but it seems that HP blocks certain wireless cards. However, some people reported success in replacing the card, and this site said it was only an issue on "older HP computer[s]". Can anyone confirm this? Finally, if that fails/will not work, does anyone know what I can get through Best Buy? I am concerned that they will not put any different card than the Ralink, and after two of those, I don't want that. Can I ask Best Buy support to use a different card? Can they even get another card from HP? I guess the base question is: should I attempt to replace the card myself (two days via Amazon to get a new card), should I try to get the laptop repaired through Best Buy (two - four weeks), should I go for a different model laptop from Best Buy, or should I try a different unit of the same model (three's the charm?).
