  Im getting a ClassCastException if i use Attributes in my Custom Headline Tag. Without Attributes rendering works fine. Calling <t:headline value="test" /> gives a ClassCastException even before a Method in my HeadlineComponent or HeadlineTag-Class is called. <t:headline /> works fine.   I have already searched the forums, but couldnt find a good suitable answer: I have an Ubuntu Server 10.04 as KVM Host and a guest system, that also runs 10.04. The host system uses LVM and there are three logical volumes, which are provided to the guest as virtual block devices - one for /, one for /home and one for swap. The guest had been partitioned without LVM. I have already enlarged the logical volume in the host system - the guest successfully sees the bigger virtual disk. However, this virtual disk contains one "good old" partition, which still has the old small size. • How can I most efficiently batch resize images on a Mac?

  I've been batch-resizing images through Preview (OS X) through the menu bar, but I want a simpler workflow, since I do this a dozen times a day. What I want: 1. Select a group of image files in finder 2. Hit a button or two (menu item or keyboard shortcut) to do the following: a. Scale all the pictures to 600 pixels wide b. Save as JPG files at 75% quality What I also want: - All of the above, plus step a(1): Crop images to 200 pixel height I can do all that manually, to a batch of files, through Preview. I can do it one at a time with some keyboard shortcuts in Photoshop or Pixelmator. Automator (using Preview) can scale to 600 pixels on the longest dimension, but it doesn't let me specify width. (It can scale specifically to width before cropping height.) It can change to JPG, but it can't specify image quality. And I can assign a keyboard shortcut to the whole process. Is that my best option on a Mac? Can I accomplish this more efficiently through another app like Quicksilver?

• Get to know what HTML-button is clicked with PHP, no Name of value available

  I have a wizard with 4 steps and in one of the steps, you can add items. By default, there are 3 time 5 empty input-fields listed. When you click a button, there have to be added some more. The 3 times 5 fields are added by a loop. How can I determine where I have to add some fields (in the first 5 field of the second or the third). I can't use another name for every button, because sometimes there can be more then 3 groups of 5 fields. In my code (PHP), I use the name of the button to know what happened in the form, so the name can't be different for the button in every group ... Further, the whole step is 1 form, so the post can't go to another script ... The value of the button has to be the same for every group. I've been thinking on possible solutions and these came up: On click a javascript adds a value to the post (in a hidden field?) But is this posted with the form? Could it be possible to get the ID of the clicked button? This might be different :-) I need a refresh after the click, so pure javascript isn't a solution either ... It is a very specific question, but I hope someone can give me some direction. One way would be put the bigger chunks in first. • How to reduce the size of a pdf file?

  I'm looking for a way in Ubuntu to reduce the size of a pdf (by reducing the quality of the images). I know that this can be done in Ghostscript by typing the following command in terminal: gs -sDEVICE=pdfwrite -dCompatibilityLevel=1.4 -dPDFSETTINGS=/screen -dNOPAUSE -dQUIET -dBATCH -sOutputFile=output.pdf input.pdf The problem is that I can't specify the quality with any accuracy. The parameter -dPDFSETTINGS=/screen is the one that decides the quality; but the alternatives are quite rigid (for example it is possible to do -dPDFSETTINGS=/ebook for slightly better quality). I'm looking for a way to reduce the size of a pdf in a way that allows me to specify the desired quality numerically. I know that this is possible in a Mac, so it must be possible in Linux -- right? Any help would be well appreciated.

• photshop: why low quality jpg saved as high quality increases the file size?

  i have a low quality background about 85kb. If I open the file in Photoshop and save it, I have to save this image as 100% quality, the file size increases to 640kb. This doesn't make sense, the image si already compressed, the quality cannot be better than the source, so the 100% quality while saving should produce THE SAME FILE OPENED. The problem is, I have this background and want to add a logo image over it, and then save it. But If I do so, i have to save this with 10% quality, and the logo looks horrible. If I save this to 100% quality, the file size is huge... How can I achive this?

I am using TexturePacker to optimize the thing. I would like to ask if there are any rules-of-thumb, tricks, ideas etc. to adjust to in regards to size of content, quality and how you maintain high-quality HD-based graphics due to its size vs. the device memory sizes? Also, is it a good idea to only have one copy of the sprites and scale it using code?

• Gnome/Nautilus does not remember individual folder's size/position?

  I am using ubuntu 11.04 and I have noticed that Gnome/Nautilus remembers a "global" setting for size/position using the last window open instead of remembering an individual size/position for each folder. Also, this applies for some applications as well. I find this a real productivity killer and I think its one of the most basic features of a window manager. Funny thing is, that windows had this feature for a long time now. I have tried devilspie but I find it would be really time wasting to configure every folder that way. Is there any fix for this issue, if not what window manager would you suggest me? Thank you!

• Is a blob more efficient than a varchar for data that can be ANY size?

  When setting up a database I want to use the most efficient data type for potentially fairly long data. Currently my project is to store song titles and thoughts pertaining to that song. Some titles might be 5 characters or longer than 100 characters and the thoughts could run pretty long. Is it more efficient to use a varchar set to 8000 or to use a blob? Is using a blob the same as a varchar, in that there is a set size it is allocated regardless of what it holds? or is it just a pointer and it doesn't really use much space on the table? Is there a certain set size of a blob in KB or is it expandable?
