  • ImageIcon loads no image

    - by neville
    I'm trying to get image built from tiled set of images So to JPanel I'm adding JButtons with ImageIcons. All images are in folder with my classes (NetBeans), and they're named u1, u2, ..., u16. But on button there is no image shown. What am I doing wrong ? JPanel panel = new JPanel(new GridLayout(4, 4, 3, 3)); for (int i = 1; i < 17; i++) { JLabel l = new JLabel(new ImageIcon("u"+i+".jpg"), JLabel.CENTER); l.setBorder(BorderFactory.createBevelBorder(BevelBorder.RAISED)); panel.add(l); }

  • Get first character of each word and its position in a sentence/paragraph

    - by Radhika
    I am trying to create a map by taking the first character of each word and it's position in a sentence/paragraph. I am using regex pattern to achieve this. Regex is a costly operation. Are there are any ways to achieve this? Regex way: public static void getFirstChar(String paragraph) { Pattern pattern = Pattern.compile("(?<=\\b)[a-zA-Z]"); Map newMap = new HashMap(); Matcher fit = pattern.matcher(paragraph); while (fit.find()) { newMap.put((fit.group().toString().charAt(0)), fit.start()); } }

  • Is it possible to call the main(String[] args) after catching an exception?

    - by Jason
    I'm working on a Serpinski triangle program that asks the user for the levels of triangles to draw. In the interests of idiot-proofing my program, I put this in: Scanner input= new Scanner(System.in); System.out.println(msg); try { level= input.nextInt(); } catch (Exception e) { System.out.print(warning); //restart main method } Is it possible, if the user punches in a letter or symbol, to restart the main method after the exception has been caught?

  • Complete list of Fonts which support

    - by Yan Cheng CHEOK
    Currently, if I change the locale setting of my application by Locale.setDefault(Locale.ENGLISH); Locale.setDefault(Locale.SIMPLIFIED_CHINESE); What I understand from this JFreeChart forum is that, I am not using correct font. Once you get the reference of the LegentTitle, you can set it to any font. Apparently, JFreeChart's default is "Tahoma" and it doesn't support Chinese characters. May I know, how I can programmatic determine, as list of available Fonts in my system, which support Chinese? I can hard code it to Serif (It fully support Chinese, doesn't it?), its look n feel doesn't looks good to me. I would like to have more choices.

  • Struts for IBM Application Server Toolkit

    - by Timbuck
    I'm looking to build a Struts 1.2.x application for Websphere, using IBM's Application Server Toolkit. Are there any plugins available for this toolkit (it is a version of Eclipse) that are known to help with this type of development? I am new to Struts so I will also be learning about the technology as I go along, but I want to make it as painless as possible. A web search has only brought up things such as "MyEclipse", which I can't use in the corporate environment.

  • jsf and eclipse setup. Lib in Explorer is different than lib in tomcat. How come?

    - by user384706
    Hi, I am starter in JSF2.0, and I have a question related to Eclipse (I am using Helios). 1)I create a Dynamic Project 2)I add JSF project facet. 3)I choose JSF user library (I have created it using MyFaces) All ok so far. I notice though that in the Project Explorer in WebContent/WEB-INF/lib the lib directory is empty instead of having MyFaces jars. The application works fine though. I looked into this and the jars are actually being placed in the corresponding lib directory of the app deployed under wtpwebapps of the Tomcat instance of eclipse in the .pluggins directory. Ok, it works but IMHO it is incorrect to have the Project Explorer inconsistent with the directories actually deployed. I.e. lib is shown empty in Project Explorer but with jars under wtpwebapps. Am I wrong to dislike this inconsistency? Is this how it should work or am I doing something wrong in the way I am setting my project? Thanks!

  • Hibernate Persistence problems with Bean Mapping (Dozer)

    - by BuffaloBuffalo
    I am using Hibernate 3, and having a particular issue when persisting a new Entity which has an association with an existing detached entity. Easiest way to explain this is via code samples. I have two entities, FooEntity and BarEntity, of which a BarEntity can be associated with many FooEntity: @Entity public class FooEntity implements Foo{ @Id private Long id; @ManyToOne(targetEntity = BarEntity.class) @JoinColumn(name = "bar_id", referencedColumnName = "id") @Cascade(value={CascadeType.ALL}) private Bar bar; } @Entity public class BarEntity implements Bar{ @Id private Long id; @OneToMany(mappedBy = "bar", targetEntity = FooEntity.class) private Set<Foo> foos; } Foo and Bar are interfaces that loosely define getters for the various fields. There are corresponding FooImpl and BarImpl classes that are essentially just the entity objects without the annotations. What I am trying to do is construct a new instance of FooImpl, and persist it after setting a number of fields. The new Foo instance will have its 'bar' member set to an existing Bar (runtime being a BarEntity) from the database (retrieved via session.get(..)). After the FooImpl has all of its properties set, Apache Dozer is used to map between the 'domain' object FooImpl and the Entity FooEntity. What Dozer is doing in the background is instantiating a new FooEntity and setting all of the matching fields. BarEntity is cloned as well via instantiation and set the FooEntity's 'bar' member. After this occurs, passing the new FooEntity object to persist. This throws the exception: org.hibernate.PersistentObjectException: detached entity passed to persist: com.company.entity.BarEntity Below is in code the steps that are occurring FooImpl foo = new FooImpl(); //returns at runtime a persistent BarEntity through session.get() Bar bar = BarService.getBar(1L); foo.setBar(bar); ... //This constructs a new instance of FooEntity, with a member 'bar' which itself is a new instance that is detached) FooEntity entityToPersist = dozerMapper.map(foo, FooEntity.class); ... session.persist(entityToPersist); I have been able to resolve this issue by either removing or changing the @Cascade annotation, but that limits future use for say adding a new Foo with a new Bar attached to it already. Is there some solution here I am missing? I would be surprised if this issue hasn't been solved somewhere before, either by altering how Dozer Maps the children of Foo or how Hibernate reacts to a detached Child Entity.

  • Need to have JProgress bar to measure progress when copying directories and files

    - by user1815823
    I have the below code to copy directories and files but not sure where to measure the progress. Can someone help as to where can I measure how much has been copied and show it in the JProgress bar public static void copy(File src, File dest) throws IOException{ if(src.isDirectory()){ if(!dest.exists()){ //checking whether destination directory exisits dest.mkdir(); System.out.println("Directory copied from " + src + " to " + dest); } String files[] = src.list(); for (String file : files) { File srcFile = new File(src, file); File destFile = new File(dest, file); copyFolder(srcFile,destFile); } }else{ InputStream in = new FileInputStream(src); OutputStream out = new FileOutputStream(dest); byte[] buffer = new byte[1024]; int length; while ((length = in.read(buffer)) > 0){ out.write(buffer, 0, length); } in.close(); out.close(); System.out.println("File copied from " + src + " to " + dest); }

  • Space as grouping separator in printf

    - by blekione
    I know how to use comma in printf as grouping separator to print value in format like 1,000,000.00 to print it that way I'm using command System.out.printf ("%,.2f", value); but how to use space as grouping separator to format value like 1 000 000.00 I tried to find solution but solutions with using DecimalFormat look at now to complicate for me (beginner level). Is there as easy way as in example with comma to do it?

  • Reading a file over a network path

    - by Sin5k4
    I have this weird issue,when I use > File FileToRead = new File("\\\\MYSERVER\\MYFOLDER\\MYFOLDER\\MYPICTURE.JPG"); to read a file over a network,all I get is a null pointer exception.Normally a local path works with this,but when on a network path,I just couldn't manage to get it to work.Any ideas? PS:oh and my network connection seems to work,no issues when accessing data in windows explorer... More of the code: File FileToRead = new File("file://DOKSERVICE/Somefolder/ProductImage/01001.JPG"); // File FileToRead = new File("c:\\dog.jpg"); local test BufferedImage image = ImageIO.read(FileToRead); BufferedImage resizedimage = new BufferedImage(260, 260,BufferedImage.TYPE_INT_RGB ); Graphics2D g = resizedimage.createGraphics(); g.drawImage(image, 0, 0, 260, 260, null); g.dispose(); picture.setIcon(new ImageIcon(image));

  • Swing: set JFrame content area size

    - by igul222
    I'm trying to make a JFrame with a usable content area of exactly 500x500. If I do this... public MyFrame() { super("Hello, world!"); setSize(500,500); } ... I get a window whose full size is 500x500, including the title bar, etc., where I really need a window whose size is something like 504x520 to account for the window border and titlebar. How can I achieve this?

  • Creating objects makes the VM faster?

    - by Sudhir Jonathan
    Look at this piece of code: MessageParser parser = new MessageParser(); for (int i = 0; i < 10000; i++) { parser.parse(plainMessage, user); } For some reason, it runs SLOWER (by about 100ms) than for (int i = 0; i < 10000; i++) { MessageParser parser = new MessageParser(); parser.parse(plainMessage, user); } Any ideas why? The tests were repeated a lot of times, so it wasn't just random. How could creating an object 10000 times be faster than creating it once?

  • How does Object Oriented Programming work?

    - by venom
    Hello, I am not sure about some things in OOP. If I have Class1, which has some private field, for example private Field field1, and make getField1 () { return field1; } then I have some class with constructor public Class2 (Field field) { someMethod(field); } And then I call constructor of Class2 in Class3 like: Class2 cl = new Class2(instanceOfClass1.getField1()); And now the question: Am I working with field1 of instanceOfClass1 in someMethod(field)?
