• Interface Photoshop size for iPhone app

  Hello, I am building an iPhone app interface and I know the dpi has to be 163, but when it comes to the size of the file, I was looking through all the recommendations and found 2 different answers... Does anyone know what size should i set the Photoshop file at? The answers I have so far are: "The screen on the iPhone is 480×320, minus the 20-pixel status bar (making a 460×320 working screen size). The screen shots on the App Store should not include the status bar." "400 x 320 or 960 x 640 (iPhone 4) You must also consider the landscape mode (320 x 400 and 640 x 960)" I would really appreciate the answer. Thanks!

• Alternative to Rtmp and red5 for Iphone application

  I am using red5 + rtmp in client-server flash application. There isnt audio/video streams in my applications, rtmp used for transfering messages from app to server and back. Now i need to develop application for Iphone and need help: 1) is there any rtmp implementation on Iphone ?? 2) If not, how could i solve this problem? Is there is any alternative to rtmp on iphone? And most important question : could it be solved without rewriting whole server part of application? (red5+ rtmp) Thanks

  I'm starting a web application that will target Mobile Safari on iPhone/iPod Touch. I'm evaluating the available client-side JavaScript/CSS libraries/frameworks that are currently out there. These are the ones I'm currenlty aware of: iUI CiUI UiUIKit WebApp.Net iWebKit Apple's Dashcode Application - not really a standalone library/framework, but it provides/generates JavaScript, CSS, and images that conform to the native iPhone UI metaphors. Are there any others out there? I want to make sure I'm not missing any before I make a decision. I'm only looking for client-side JavaScript/CSS solutions and building one from scratch isn't an option because of time constraints. No server-side PHP, Ruby, Python, Java, etc. solutions. I am aware of the iPhone web applications, templates, frameworks? question that was asked, but this only mentioned iUI and UiUIKit. Thank you

• Why is XCode Organizer console sometimes empty when I connect my iPhone

  When testing my iPhone app I have found it incredibly useful to log information to the console window. I think it is amazing that I can send out an adhoc build to my co-workers and if they experience problems I am able to plug their iPhone into my mac and grab their console output. However, sometimes the console window is blank when we do this. Why is this the case? The code has been built with logging enabled. Besides that, it seems that the console output, when I see it, contains information about not only my app, but other iphone system logging. Thanks for any insight you can provide.

  I've been looking into iPhone development, but I've been having problems coming up with the answer to a certain question. If I create an application on my Mac, is there any way I can get it to run on an iPhone without going through the app store? It doesn't matter if the iPhone has to be jailbroken, as long as I can still run an application created using the official SDK. For reasons I won't get into, I can't have this program going through the app store. Thanks for any help you can give!

• How to fix slow scrolling when using webkit-transform and relative positioning on the iphone

  I have implemented scrolling of a div by using relative positioning and webkit animation for the iphone, it works beautifully on desktop safari but is choppy on the actual iphone (fine on the simulator). The scrolling works by having a div nested and clipped (overflow:hidden) by its parent. I then set the top position and animate it with -webkit style declarations. The iphone seems to noticeably slow down when there are a lot of items in the inner div. Any ideas how make the scrolling smoother? This was a problem with iScroll code and my own hand coded stuff.

  hi all, i've a little problem, i've add a default.png in my app and it work. I've modify my file, delete file and reference and upload my new file. On my iphone the image does not appear, only some second of blackscreen and after my app start. In the simulator the splashscreen appear. I've try to delete my app on iphone, make a clean all and rebuild & install but nothing... I've try to make clean all, close xcode, delete default.png to my project directory (sometimes exist, sometimes no), open xcode, add my file and build & install on my iphone but nothing... Any ideas?

  I'm thinking of writing an app to selectively transfer photos/music to and from my iPhone, mostly for fun and personal convenience. However, I'm stuck at the very beginning -- where do I look to find information on how to do this? Pretty much every link I see talks about developing applications that run on the iPhone, but nothing about desktop app for interfacing with an iPhone. I'm on Windows (no access to a Mac, but I'll take suggestions for that for when I eventually acquire one), and I'm most familiar with C#, but other languages are definitely an option. Can anybody offer me a few pointers on getting started? Thanks.

  Everybody knows the standard procedure to keep your app alive, after the user pressed the lock button (silent sound). If I start a sound with AVAudioPlayer (before the iphone is locked), the sound plays till it's end (after locking). The app is still running. If I try to start another sound while the iPhone is locked, it will never get played. All the other things work as well but the sound doesn't. How can I play a sound while the iphone is locked?

  Hello, I am developing native iPhone app. I have one requirement that, there are 5 drop downs in the screen, where user will select each value and based on that there will be a graph generated on screen. Also the drop downs are cascading, meaning that depending on value selected in upper drop down, the values in lower drop downs will change. If it was a web app than, I had no problem as we have drop downs available. But it is a native iPhone app and we don't have drop down in iPhone SDK.   Is it possible to set up a ad hoc network between an iPhone and a totally different device like camera,scanner or printer and build a data tunnel between them to exchange data or services. I believe iPhone does not have the provision of creating an ad hoc network. So i am assuming that the other device are the initiator of the ad hoc network. I tried doing the same with a mac book and iPhone and i could surf on the phone after enabling internet sharing. But i wanted to make sure that its possible with other devices as well I believe the upcoming WiFi Direct is a way to do it.

  Hi, I want some help on UIAccelerometer class. I want to find some way to find out or distinguish when I wave iphone device from right-to-left and the left-to-right. I am getting x,y,z values as well as interval value. I am also getting velocity and distance calculated from normal physics rule. Distance = (prevDist + sqrt(pow((prevx - acceleration.x), 2) + pow((prevy - acceleration.y), 2) + pow((prevz - acceleration.z), 2))) Velocity = (Distance * timeintercal) { here distance means newdistance-prevdistance and timeinterval for that distance } When I am moving iphone device right-to-left then left-to-right I am getting total distance traveld in both direction and velocity at regular intervals. Can you help me how I can find out that I am moving iphone device left-to-right or right-to-left? Help would be appreciated. Thanks.

  I am building an iPhone app that will need to display info primarily in a calendar view. Users will need to be able to search for entries and view them by day, month or in a list view. It seems like the built-in calendar type interface is ideal for my app. So I could build a similar calendar with 3 buttons at the bottom for list/day/month view as well as a button for today, in short a very similar interface to the built in iPhone calendar with different colors primarily. However, if I replicate it am I a) a lame copycat for replicating the built-in interface or smart for using a well-known iPhone metaphor and b) in danger of having my app rejected?

  Apple just announced the iAd platform as part of iPhone OS 4. It essentially is an embedded application with a unified interface where you close the embedded application using a small x in the corner. This is obviously a nice experience for users, that could be used by other advertising platforms or to provide an embedded application such as dictionary service. While details remains sketchy on the iPhone OS 4 public APIs, I am wondering if expert iPhone developers know whether this functionality can be replicated by third-party ad providers, or others interested in something like an embedded dictionary service. Is this possible?

  I have been asked to write a compliment website/service for an iPhone app. The app creates images. The author wants these images to be uploaded onto the server, into their personal storage area. These images need to be able to be pulled down to the iPhone later for editing. The user will be able to use the website as well to see these images.   Hey all, I've done some iPhone programming (safely midlevel) and now a requirement has come up for us to write a barcode reader that uses the iPhone camera. This is not for shopping or the general public but will be for internal use. My first thought was to simply programatically take a picture, upload it to server, and have a web service or something similar handle the heavy lifting of extracting the numbers out of the bar code. However I recently installed some apps already available on the iPhone that read bar codes, refer you to shopping sites, etc. and they seem to use the video camera to identify barcodes and extract the numbers. Does anyone know how this is being done or could point me to some open source or sample code?

  I have a set of iPhone static libraries (a *.a file) in which I only call a few of the classes from. I have used AR in the past (with linux libraries) to extract the object files from the static library, remove the unwanted object files and rearchive. However, when I try this with an iPhone compliled static library, I get the following error: ar: CustomiPhoneLib.a is a fat file (use libtool(1) or lipo(1) and ar(1) on it) ar: CustomiPhoneLib.a: Inappropriate file type or format Does anyone know how to extract the object files from an iphone compiled static library? Doing thie could potentially reduce the final file size.
