  • ActiveMQ broker configuration error when specifying persistenceAdapter: "One of '{WC[##other:"http:/

    - by Joe
    I am setting up a simple ActiveMQ embedded broker. It works fine, until I try to configure a persistence adapter. I am basically just copying the configuration from http://activemq.apache.org/persistence.html#Persistence-ConfiguringKahaPersistence. When I add this configuration to my Spring configuration, like so: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <beans xmlns="http://www.springframework.org/schema/beans" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:amq="http://activemq.apache.org/schema/core" xsi:schemaLocation=" http://www.springframework.org/schema/beans http://www.springframework.org/schema/beans/spring-beans-2.5.xsd http://activemq.apache.org/schema/core http://activemq.apache.org/schema/core/activemq-core-5.3.0.xsd"> <amq:broker useJmx="true" persistent="true" brokerName="localhost"> <amq:transportConnectors> <amq:transportConnector name="vm" uri="vm://localhost"/> </amq:transportConnectors> <amq:persistenceAdapter> <amq:kahaPersistenceAdapter directory="activemq-data" maxDataFileLength="33554432"/> </amq:persistenceAdapter> </amq:broker> </beans> I get the error: cvc-complex-type.2.4.a: Invalid content was found starting with element 'amq:persistenceAdapter'. One of '{WC[##other:"http://activemq.apache.org/schema/core"]}' is expected. When I take out the amq:persistenceAdapter element, it works fine. The same error happens no matter which persistence adapter I include in the body, e.g. jdbc, journal, etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  • WebClient on WP7 - Throw "A request with this method cannot have a request body"

    - by Peter Hansen
    If I execute this code in a Consoleapp it works fine: string uriString = "http://url.com/api/v1.0/d/" + Username + "/some?amount=3&offset=0"; WebClient wc = new WebClient(); wc.Headers["Content-Type"] = "application/json"; wc.Headers["Authorization"] = AuthString.Replace("\\", ""); string responseArrayKvitteringer = wc.DownloadString(uriString); Console.WriteLine(responseArrayKvitteringer); But if I move the code to my WP7 project like this: string uriString = "http://url.com/api/v1.0/d/" + Username + "/some?amount=3&offset=0"; WebClient wc = new WebClient(); wc.Headers["Content-Type"] = "application/json"; wc.Headers["Authorization"] = AuthString.Replace("\\", ""); wc.DownloadStringCompleted += new DownloadStringCompletedEventHandler(wc_DownloadStringCompleted); wc.DownloadStringAsync(new Uri(uriString)); void wc_DownloadStringCompleted(object sender, DownloadStringCompletedEventArgs e) { MessageBox.Show(e.Result); } I got the exception: A request with this method cannot have a request body. Why? The solution is to remove the Content-type: string uriString = "http://url.com/api/v1.0/d/" + Username + "/some?amount=3&offset=0"; WebClient wc = new WebClient(); //wc.Headers["Content-Type"] = "application/json"; wc.Headers["Authorization"] = AuthString.Replace("\\", ""); wc.DownloadStringCompleted += new DownloadStringCompletedEventHandler(wc_DownloadStringCompleted); wc.DownloadStringAsync(new Uri(uriString)); void wc_DownloadStringCompleted(object sender, DownloadStringCompletedEventArgs e) { MessageBox.Show(e.Result); }

  • How to watch for count of new lines in tail

    - by fl00r
    I want to do something like this: watch tail -f | wc -l #=> 43 #=> 56 #=> 61 #=> 44 #=> ... It counts new lines of tail each second / Linux, CentOs To be more clear. I have got something like this: tail -f /var/log/my_process/*.log | grep error I am reading some error messages. And now I want to count them. How many ~ errors I have got in a second. So one line in a log is one error in a proccess.

  • Calling linux utilities with options from within a Bash script.

    - by Kyle
    This is my first Bash script so forgive me if this question is trivial. I need to count the number of files within a specified directory $HOME/.junk. I thought this would be simple and assumed the following would work: numfiles= find $HOME/.junk -type f | wc -l echo "There are $numfiles files in the .junk directory." Typing find $HOME/.junk -type f | wc -l at the command line works exactly how I expected it to, simply returning the number of files. Why is this not working when it is entered within my script? Am I missing some special notation when it comes to passing options to the utilities? Thank you very much for your time and help.

  • Android - How to scan Access Points and select strongest signal?

    - by Donal Rafferty
    I am currently trying to write a class in Android that will Scan for access points, calculate which access point has the best signal and then connect to that access point. So the application will be able to scan on the move and attach to new access points on the go. I have the scanning and calculation of the best signal working. But when it comes to attaching to the best access point I am having trouble. It appears that enableNetwork(netid, othersTrueFalse) is the only method for attaching to an Access point but this causes problems as from my Scan Results I am not able to get the id of the access point with the strongest signal. This is my code: public void doWifiScan(){ scanTask = new TimerTask() { public void run() { handler.post(new Runnable() { public void run() { sResults = wifiManager.scan(getBaseContext()); if(sResults!=null) Log.d("TIMER", "sResults count" + sResults.size()); ScanResult scan = wifiManager.calculateBestAP(sResults); wifiManager.addNewAccessPoint(scan); } }); }}; t.schedule(scanTask, 3000, 30000); } public ScanResult calculateBestAP(List<ScanResult> sResults){ ScanResult bestSignal = null; for (ScanResult result : sResults) { if (bestSignal == null || WifiManager.compareSignalLevel(bestSignal.level, result.level) < 0) bestSignal = result; } String message = String.format("%s networks found. %s is the strongest. %s is the bsid", sResults.size(), bestSignal.SSID, bestSignal.BSSID); Log.d("sResult", message); return bestSignal; } public void addNewAccessPoint(ScanResult scanResult){ WifiConfiguration wc = new WifiConfiguration(); wc.SSID = '\"' + scanResult.SSID + '\"'; //wc.preSharedKey = "\"password\""; wc.hiddenSSID = true; wc.status = WifiConfiguration.Status.ENABLED; wc.allowedGroupCiphers.set(WifiConfiguration.GroupCipher.TKIP); wc.allowedGroupCiphers.set(WifiConfiguration.GroupCipher.CCMP); wc.allowedKeyManagement.set(WifiConfiguration.KeyMgmt.WPA_PSK); wc.allowedPairwiseCiphers.set(WifiConfiguration.PairwiseCipher.TKIP); wc.allowedPairwiseCiphers.set(WifiConfiguration.PairwiseCipher.CCMP); wc.allowedProtocols.set(WifiConfiguration.Protocol.RSN); int res = mainWifi.addNetwork(wc); Log.d("WifiPreference", "add Network returned " + res ); boolean b = mainWifi.enableNetwork(res, false); Log.d("WifiPreference", "enableNetwork returned " + b ); } When I try to use addNewAccessPoint(ScanResult scanResult) it just adds another AP to the list in the settings application with the same name as the one with the best signal, so I end up with loads of duplicates and not actually attaching to them. Can anyone point me in the direction of a better solution?

  • How does Github calculate language percentage in a repo?

    - by John Isaacks
    I have a repo with Ruby and PHP code in it. Github says my repo is 74.8% PHP and 25.2% Ruby I do not understand how this can be. When I compare the 2 languages in my project: # Count how many files: # Ruby ls | grep ".*\.rb" | wc -l # returns 10 #PHP ls | grep ".*\.php" | wc -l # returns 1 # Count how many lines, words, chars: # Ruby cat *.rb | wc # returns 229, 812, 5303 # PHP cat *.php | wc # returns 102, 473, 2760 Ruby always seems to have more. Am I missing something?

  • Win32 -- Object cleanup and global variables

    - by KaiserJohaan
    Hello, I've got a question about global variables and object cleanup in c++. For example, look at the code here; case WM_PAINT: paintText(&hWnd); break; void paintText(HWND* hWnd) { PAINTSTRUCT ps; HBRUSH hbruzh = CreateSolidBrush(RGB(0,0,0)); HDC hdz = BeginPaint(*hWnd,&ps); char s1[] = "Name"; char s2[] = "IP"; SelectBrush(hdz,hbruzh); SelectFont(hdz,hFont); SetBkMode(hdz,TRANSPARENT); TextOut(hdz,3,23,s1,sizeof(s1)); TextOut(hdz,10,53,s2,sizeof(s2)); EndPaint(*hWnd,&ps); DeleteObject(hdz); DeleteObject(hbruzh); // bad? DeleteObject(ps); // bad? } 1)First of all; which objects are good to delete and which ones are NOT good to delete and why? Not 100% sure of this. 2)Since WM_PAINT is called everytime the window is redrawn, would it be better to simply store ps, hdz and hbruzh as global variables instead of re-initializing them everytime? The downside I guess would be tons of global variables in the end _ but performance-wise would it not be less CPU-consuming? I know it won't matter prolly but I'm just aiming for minimalistic as possible for educational purposes. 3) What about libraries that are loaded in? For example: // // Main // int WINAPI WinMain(HINSTANCE hInstance, HINSTANCE hPrevInstance, LPSTR lpCmdLine, int nCmdShow) { // initialize vars HWND hWnd; WNDCLASSEX wc; HINSTANCE hlib = LoadLibrary("Riched20.dll"); ThishInstance = hInstance; ZeroMemory(&wc,sizeof(wc)); // set WNDCLASSEX props wc.cbSize = sizeof(WNDCLASSEX); wc.lpfnWndProc = WindowProc; wc.hInstance = ThishInstance; wc.hIcon = LoadIcon(hInstance,MAKEINTRESOURCE(IDI_MYICON)); wc.lpszMenuName = MAKEINTRESOURCE(IDR_MENU1); wc.hCursor = LoadCursor(NULL, IDC_ARROW); wc.hbrBackground = (HBRUSH)COLOR_WINDOW; wc.lpszClassName = TEXT("PimpClient"); RegisterClassEx(&wc); // create main window and display it hWnd = CreateWindowEx(NULL, wc.lpszClassName, TEXT("PimpClient"), 0, 300, 200, 450, 395, NULL, NULL, hInstance, NULL); createWindows(&hWnd); ShowWindow(hWnd,nCmdShow); // loop message queue MSG msg; while (GetMessage(&msg, NULL,0,0)) { TranslateMessage(&msg); DispatchMessage(&msg); } // cleanup? FreeLibrary(hlib); return msg.wParam; } 3cont) is there a reason to FreeLibrary at the end? I mean when the process terminates all resources are freed anyway? And since the library is used to paint text throughout the program, why would I want to free before that? Cheers

  • win32: TextOut not being displayed

    - by KaiserJohaan
    Hello again, I recently having my mainwindow write text by using WM_PAINT, but now I realise it was maybe not the best message to do so in, so I'm trying another version; The mainwindow contains a menu, upon clicing a menu item the ID_FILE_PID msg is sent and it builds the 4 new windows aswell as displays text in the mainwindow (paintEditSigns function). The 4 windows works fine but the text dosn't work at all, unless I do it in the main() function as shown... what on earth is this? O_O BTW: I still have no clue why the code-display on StackOverflow keeps looking so wierd when I post, why is this? switch(message) { case WM_COMMAND: switch (LOWORD(wParam)) { case ID_FILE_PID: { HWND hWndButton; HWND hWndEdit; HWND hWndEdit2; HWND hWndDisplay; // drawing the text in mainwindow paintEditSigns(); -- does not do anything here! // adding new windows in the mainwindow hWndButton = CreateWindowEx(0,TEXT("BUTTON"),"Modify",WS_CHILD | WS_VISIBLE | BS_DEFPUSHBUTTON, 170,56,80,30,hWnd,(HMENU)ID_BUTTON,hThisInstance,NULL); hWndEdit = CreateWindowEx(0,RICHEDIT_CLASS,TEXT(""),WS_CHILD | WS_VISIBLE | WS_BORDER, 120,30,80,25,hWnd,(HMENU)ID_EDIT,hThisInstance,NULL); hWndEdit2 = CreateWindowEx(0,RICHEDIT_CLASS,TEXT(""),WS_CHILD | WS_VISIBLE | WS_BORDER, 220,30,80,25,hWnd,(HMENU)ID_EDIT2,hThisInstance,NULL); hWndDisplay = CreateWindowEx(0,TEXT("STATIC"),NULL,WS_CHILD | WS_VISIBLE | WS_BORDER, 0,100,450,140,hWnd,(HMENU)ID_DISPLAY,hThisInstance,NULL); break; } ..... // // Main function // int WINAPI WinMain(HINSTANCE hInstance, HINSTANCE hPrevInstance, LPSTR lpCmdLine, int nCmdShow) { HWND hWnd; WNDCLASSEX wc; ZeroMemory(&wc, sizeof(WNDCLASSEX)); hThisInstance = hInstance; LoadLibrary("Riched20.dll"); wc.cbSize = sizeof(WNDCLASSEX); wc.style = CS_HREDRAW | CS_VREDRAW; wc.lpfnWndProc = WindowProc; wc.hInstance = hInstance; wc.lpszMenuName = MAKEINTRESOURCE(IDR_MYMENU); if(!(wc.hIcon = LoadIcon(hInstance,MAKEINTRESOURCE(IDI_MYICON)))) { HRESULT res = GetLastError(); } wc.hCursor = LoadCursor(NULL, IDC_ARROW); wc.hbrBackground = (HBRUSH)COLOR_WINDOW; wc.lpszClassName = TEXT("testcpp"); RegisterClassEx(&wc); hWnd = CreateWindowEx(NULL, wc.lpszClassName, TEXT("test"), WS_OVERLAPPEDWINDOW, 300, 200, 450, 300, NULL, NULL, hInstance, NULL); ShowWindow(hWnd,nCmdShow); //paintEditSigns() -- here it works, but not when in the message part MSG msg; while (GetMessage(&msg, NULL,0,0)) { TranslateMessage(&msg); DispatchMessage(&msg); } return msg.wParam; } void paintEditSigns() { HFONT hf = createFont(); PAINTSTRUCT ps; HWND hWnd = FindWindow(TEXT("testcpp"),TEXT("test")); HBRUSH hbruzh = CreateSolidBrush(RGB(0,0,0)); HDC hdz = BeginPaint(hWnd,&ps); string s = "Memory Address"; SelectBrush(hdz,hbruzh); SelectFont(hdz,hf); TextOut(hdz,0,100,s.c_str(),s.length()); EndPaint(hWnd,&ps); DeleteObject(hbruzh); UpdateWindow(hWnd); } HFONT createFont() { HDC hdc; long lfHeight; hdc = GetDC(NULL); lfHeight = -MulDiv(12, GetDeviceCaps(hdc, LOGPIXELSY), 72); ReleaseDC(NULL, hdc); HFONT hf = CreateFont(lfHeight, 0, 0, 0, 0, TRUE, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, "MS Sans Serif"); return hf; }

  • Is this correct for disposing an object using IDisposable

    - by robUK
    I have a class that implements the IDisposable interface. I am using a webclient to download some data using the AsyncDownloadString. I am wondering have I correctly declared my event handlers in the constructor and within the using statement of the web client? And is this correct way to remove the event handlers in the Dispose method? Overrule is this the correct way to use the IDisposable interface? public class Balance : IDisposable { //Constructor WebClient wc; public Balance() { using (wc = new WebClient()) { //Create event handler for the progress changed and download completed events wc.DownloadProgressChanged += new DownloadProgressChangedEventHandler(wc_DownloadProgressChanged); wc.DownloadStringCompleted += new DownloadStringCompletedEventHandler(wc_DownloadStringCompleted); } } ~Balance() { this.Dispose(false); } //Get the current balance for the user that is logged in. //If the balance returned from the server is NULL display error to the user. //Null could occur if the DB has been stopped or the server is down. public void GetBalance(string sipUsername) { //Remove the underscore ( _ ) from the username, as this is not needed to get the balance. sipUsername = sipUsername.Remove(0, 1); string strURL = string.Format("https://www.xxxxxxx.com", sipUsername); //Download only when the webclient is not busy. if (!wc.IsBusy) { // Download the current balance. wc.DownloadStringAsync(new Uri(strURL)); } else { Console.Write("Busy please try again"); } } //return and display the balance after the download has fully completed void wc_DownloadStringCompleted(object sender, DownloadStringCompletedEventArgs e) { //Pass the result to the event handler } //Dispose of the balance object public void Dispose() { Dispose(true); GC.SuppressFinalize(this); } //Remove the event handlers private bool isDisposed = false; private void Dispose(bool disposing) { if (!this.isDisposed) { if (disposing) { wc.DownloadProgressChanged -= new DownloadProgressChangedEventHandler(wc_DownloadProgressChanged); wc.DownloadStringCompleted -= new DownloadStringCompletedEventHandler(wc_DownloadStringCompleted); wc.Dispose(); } isDisposed = true; } } }

  • Detect when mouse leaves my app

    - by user593747
    Hello I am creating an app in win32 that will display the x, y position(In screen coords) of the mouse whereever the mouse is (inside my app client/NC area & outside). I am at the stage where I want to detect when the mouse leaves my application completely. I have written a simple win32 app that should detect & notify myself when the mouse leaves my app, BUT its not working, I never receive the messages WM_MOUSELEAVE & WM_NCMOUSELEAVE. What do you think is wrong? Am I using the wrong win32 functions? // Track Mouse.cpp : Defines the entry point for the application. // #include "stdafx.h" #include <windows.h> #include <vector> #include <string> #include <cstdlib> static HINSTANCE gInstance; // Globals // enum MouseStatus { DEFAULT = 50001, LEFT_CLIENT, LEFT_NCLIENT }; static MouseStatus mouseState = DEFAULT; static COLORREF bkCol = RGB(0,255,255); // Functions List // BOOL TrackMouse( HWND hwnd ) { // Post: TRACKMOUSEEVENT mouseEvt; ZeroMemory( &mouseEvt, sizeof(TRACKMOUSEEVENT) ); mouseEvt.cbSize = sizeof(TRACKMOUSEEVENT); mouseEvt.dwFlags = TME_LEAVE | TME_NONCLIENT; //mouseEvt.dwHoverTime = HOVER_DEFAULT; mouseEvt.hwndTrack = hwnd; return TrackMouseEvent( &mouseEvt ); } LRESULT CALLBACK WndProc(HWND hwnd, UINT msg, WPARAM wParam, LPARAM lParam) { switch(msg) { case WM_CREATE: { // Track mouse so I can be notified when it leaves my application (Client & NC areas) BOOL trackSuccess = TrackMouse( hwnd ); // Returns successful, so I correctly track the mouse if ( trackSuccess == 0 ) { MessageBoxW( hwnd, L"Failed to track mouse", L"Error", MB_OK|MB_ICONEXCLAMATION ); } else MessageBoxW( hwnd, L"Tracking mouse", L"Success", MB_OK|MB_ICONEXCLAMATION ); } break; case WM_MOUSELEAVE: { // I never receive this message // Detect when the mouse leaves the client area mouseState = LEFT_CLIENT; bkCol = RGB(50,50,50); InvalidateRect( hwnd, NULL, true ); } break; case WM_NCMOUSELEAVE : { // I never receive this message // If the mouse has left the client area & then leaves the NC area then I know // that the mouse has left my app if ( mouseState == LEFT_CLIENT ) { mouseState = LEFT_NCLIENT; BOOL trackSuccess = TrackMouse( hwnd ); if ( trackSuccess == 0 ) { bkCol = RGB(255,255,0); MessageBoxW( hwnd, L"On WM_NCMOUSELEAVE: Failed to track mouse", L"Error", MB_OK|MB_ICONEXCLAMATION ); } else MessageBoxW( hwnd, L"On WM_NCMOUSELEAVE: Tracking mouse", L"Success", MB_OK|MB_ICONEXCLAMATION ); InvalidateRect( hwnd, NULL, true ); } } break; case WM_ACTIVATE: case WM_MOUSEHOVER: { // The mouse is back in my app mouseState = DEFAULT; bkCol = RGB(0,255,255); InvalidateRect( hwnd, NULL, true ); } break; case WM_PAINT: { HDC hdc; PAINTSTRUCT ps; hdc = BeginPaint( hwnd, &ps ); SetBkColor( hdc, bkCol ); Rectangle( hdc, 10, 10, 200, 200 ); EndPaint( hwnd, &ps ); } break; case WM_CLOSE: DestroyWindow(hwnd); break; case WM_DESTROY: PostQuitMessage(0); break; default: break; } return DefWindowProc(hwnd, msg, wParam, lParam); } int WINAPI WinMain(HINSTANCE gInstance, HINSTANCE hPrevInstance, LPSTR lpCmdLine, int nCmdShow) { WNDCLASSEX wc; HWND hwnd; MSG Msg; wc.cbSize = sizeof(WNDCLASSEX); wc.style = 0; wc.lpfnWndProc = WndProc; wc.cbClsExtra = 0; wc.cbWndExtra = 0; wc.hInstance = gInstance; wc.hIcon = LoadIcon(NULL, IDI_APPLICATION); wc.hCursor = LoadCursor(NULL, IDC_ARROW); wc.hbrBackground = (HBRUSH)(DKGRAY_BRUSH); wc.lpszMenuName = NULL; wc.lpszClassName = L"Custom Class"; wc.hIconSm = LoadIcon(NULL, IDI_APPLICATION); // if registration of main class fails if(!RegisterClassEx(&wc)) { MessageBoxW(NULL, L"Window Registration Failed!", L"Error!", MB_ICONEXCLAMATION | MB_OK); return 0; } hwnd = CreateWindowEx( WS_EX_CLIENTEDGE, L"Custom Class", L"App Name", WS_CAPTION|WS_MINIMIZEBOX|WS_VISIBLE|WS_OVERLAPPED|WS_SYSMENU, CW_USEDEFAULT, CW_USEDEFAULT, 600, 500, NULL, NULL, gInstance, NULL); if(hwnd == NULL) { MessageBoxW(NULL, L"Window Creation Failed!", L"Error!", MB_ICONEXCLAMATION | MB_OK); return 0; } ShowWindow(hwnd, nCmdShow); UpdateWindow(hwnd); while(GetMessage(&Msg, NULL, 0, 0) > 0) { TranslateMessage(&Msg); DispatchMessage(&Msg); } return Msg.wParam; }

Somebody suggested in my previous question to do the following:- create a temporary table and insert here all relevant data that might end up in the final result set run several updates on this table, joining the required tables one at a time instead of all of them at the same time finally perform a query on this temporary table to extract the end result All this was done in a stored procedure, the end result has passed unit tests, and is blazing fast. I have never worked with temporary tables till now. Only if I could get some hints, kind of schematic representations so that I can start with... Is there something faulty with the query? What can be the reason behind 10+ seconds of execution time? How tags work in this system? When a tutor registers, tags are entered and tag relations are created with respect to tutor's details like name, surname etc. When a Tutors create packs, again tags are entered and tag relations are created with respect to pack's details like pack name, description etc. tag relations for tutors stored in tutors_tag_relations and those for packs stored in learning_packs_tag_relations. • Test whether svn REPO changes are reflected in Working Copy

    - by user492160
    Requirement Changes will be made to the REPO directory and this should get updated to wc(working copy) as opposed to the normal way of WC REPO. Senario: My svn repo- /var/www/svn/drupal My checkout-dir/working-copy- /var/www/html/drupalsite So I've done: edited post-commit hook to contain: "/usr/bin/svn update /var/www/html/drupalsite" I won't make any change to svn WC. I'll make changes to svn REPO- /var/www/svn/drupal. After changes are made to svn repo, run "svn commit /var/www/html/drupalsite". This will trigger the post-commit hook. This inturn will run "svn update /var/www/svn/drupal" and thus my WC will get updated with the changes of REPO. Query a. Would the above steps 1-3 help achieve my 'Requirement'? b. I'd need advise on how to test if the above setup works successfully or not. I'm at loss about the success of steps 1-3 the reason why query(a) is present. This is a bit more of a concern for me. NB: I'm new to subversion. Whatever I've configured till now have been done by reading articles online. Reason for query (b) is because I'm not into development. It seems to be a php drupal website and I happen to be setting it up. So I'm not aware as to how to make a "PROPER" change in REPO so that it gets reflected in WC. If reflected, my configs are right and the team can start on development. I manually put a random file/folder into REPO dir for seeing a change in WC and ran steps 1-3 but was of no avail and later on learned that it was NOT the way to make a change to a REPO. Pleas advise. Thanks

  • Mysql - help me optimize this query

    - by sandeepan-nath
    About the system: -The system has a total of 8 tables - Users - Tutor_Details (Tutors are a type of User,Tutor_Details table is linked to Users) - learning_packs, (stores packs created by tutors) - learning_packs_tag_relations, (holds tag relations meant for search) - tutors_tag_relations and tags and orders (containing purchase details of tutor's packs), order_details linked to orders and tutor_details. For a more clear idea about the tables involved please check the The tables section in the end. -A tags based search approach is being followed.Tag relations are created when new tutors register and when tutors create packs (this makes tutors and packs searcheable). For details please check the section How tags work in this system? below. Following is a simpler representation (not the actual) of the more complex query which I am trying to optimize:- I have used statements like explanation of parts in the query select SUM(DISTINCT( t.tag LIKE "%Dictatorship%" )) as key_1_total_matches, SUM(DISTINCT( t.tag LIKE "%democracy%" )) as key_2_total_matches, td., u., count(distinct(od.id_od)), if (lp.id_lp > 0) then some conditional logic on lp fields else 0 as tutor_popularity from Tutor_Details AS td JOIN Users as u on u.id_user = td.id_user LEFT JOIN Learning_Packs_Tag_Relations AS lptagrels ON td.id_tutor = lptagrels.id_tutor LEFT JOIN Learning_Packs AS lp ON lptagrels.id_lp = lp.id_lp LEFT JOIN `some other tables on lp.id_lp - let's call learning pack tables set (including Learning_Packs table)` LEFT JOIN Order_Details as od on td.id_tutor = od.id_author LEFT JOIN Orders as o on od.id_order = o.id_order LEFT JOIN Tutors_Tag_Relations as ttagrels ON td.id_tutor = ttagrels.id_tutor JOIN Tags as t on (t.id_tag = ttagrels.id_tag) OR (t.id_tag = lptagrels.id_tag) where some condition on Users table's fields AND CASE WHEN ((t.id_tag = lptagrels.id_tag) AND (lp.id_lp 0)) THEN `some conditions on learning pack tables set` ELSE 1 END AND CASE WHEN ((t.id_tag = wtagrels.id_tag) AND (wc.id_wc 0)) THEN `some conditions on webclasses tables set` ELSE 1 END AND CASE WHEN (od.id_od0) THEN od.id_author = td.id_tutor and some conditions on Orders table's fields ELSE 1 END AND ( t.tag LIKE "%Dictatorship%" OR t.tag LIKE "%democracy%") group by td.id_tutor HAVING key_1_total_matches = 1 AND key_2_total_matches = 1 order by tutor_popularity desc, u.surname asc, u.name asc limit 0,20 ===================================================================== What does the above query do? Does AND logic search on the search keywords (2 in this example - "Democracy" and "Dictatorship"). Returns only those tutors for which both the keywords are present in the union of the two sets - tutors details and details of all the packs created by a tutor. To make things clear - Suppose a Tutor name "Sandeepan Nath" has created a pack "My first pack", then:- Searching "Sandeepan Nath" returns Sandeepan Nath. Searching "Sandeepan first" returns Sandeepan Nath. Searching "Sandeepan second" does not return Sandeepan Nath. ====================================================================================== The problem The results returned by the above query are correct (AND logic working as per expectation), but the time taken by the query on heavily loaded databases is like 25 seconds as against normal query timings of the order of 0.005 - 0.0002 seconds, which makes it totally unusable. It is possible that some of the delay is being caused because all the possible fields have not yet been indexed, but I would appreciate a better query as a solution, optimized as much as possible, displaying the same results ========================================================================================== How tags work in this system? When a tutor registers, tags are entered and tag relations are created with respect to tutor's details like name, surname etc. When a Tutors create packs, again tags are entered and tag relations are created with respect to pack's details like pack name, description etc. tag relations for tutors stored in tutors_tag_relations and those for packs stored in learning_packs_tag_relations. All individual tags are stored in tags table. ==================================================================== The tables Most of the following tables contain many other fields which I have omitted here. • .NET WebRequest.PreAuthenticate not quite what it sounds like

    - by Rick Strahl
    I’ve run into the  problem a few times now: How to pre-authenticate .NET WebRequest calls doing an HTTP call to the server – essentially send authentication credentials on the very first request instead of waiting for a server challenge first? At first glance this sound like it should be easy: The .NET WebRequest object has a PreAuthenticate property which sounds like it should force authentication credentials to be sent on the first request. Looking at the MSDN example certainly looks like it does: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.net.webrequest.preauthenticate.aspx Unfortunately the MSDN sample is wrong. As is the text of the Help topic which incorrectly leads you to believe that PreAuthenticate… wait for it - pre-authenticates. But it doesn’t allow you to set credentials that are sent on the first request. What this property actually does is quite different. It doesn’t send credentials on the first request but rather caches the credentials ONCE you have already authenticated once. Http Authentication is based on a challenge response mechanism typically where the client sends a request and the server responds with a 401 header requesting authentication. So the client sends a request like this: GET /wconnect/admin/wc.wc?_maintain~ShowStatus HTTP/1.1 Host: rasnote User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.3) Gecko/20090824 Firefox/3.5.3 (.NET CLR 4.0.20506) Accept: text/html,application/xhtml+xml,application/xml;q=0.9,*/*;q=0.8 Accept-Language: en,de;q=0.7,en-us;q=0.3 Accept-Encoding: gzip,deflate Accept-Charset: ISO-8859-1,utf-8;q=0.7,*;q=0.7 Keep-Alive: 300 Connection: keep-alive and the server responds with: HTTP/1.1 401 Unauthorized Cache-Control: private Content-Type: text/html; charset=utf-8 Server: Microsoft-IIS/7.5 WWW-Authenticate: basic realm=rasnote" X-AspNet-Version: 2.0.50727 WWW-Authenticate: Negotiate WWW-Authenticate: NTLM WWW-Authenticate: Basic realm="rasnote" X-Powered-By: ASP.NET Date: Tue, 27 Oct 2009 00:58:20 GMT Content-Length: 5163 plus the actual error message body. The client then is responsible for re-sending the current request with the authentication token information provided (in this case Basic Auth): GET /wconnect/admin/wc.wc?_maintain~ShowStatus HTTP/1.1 Host: rasnote User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.3) Gecko/20090824 Firefox/3.5.3 (.NET CLR 4.0.20506) Accept: text/html,application/xhtml+xml,application/xml;q=0.9,*/*;q=0.8 Accept-Language: en,de;q=0.7,en-us;q=0.3 Accept-Encoding: gzip,deflate Accept-Charset: ISO-8859-1,utf-8;q=0.7,*;q=0.7 Keep-Alive: 300 Connection: keep-alive Cookie: TimeTrakker=2HJ1998WH06696; WebLogCommentUser=Rick Strahl|http://www.west-wind.com/|[email protected]; WebStoreUser=b8bd0ed9 Authorization: Basic cgsf12aDpkc2ZhZG1zMA== Once the authorization info is sent the server responds with the actual page result. Now if you use WebRequest (or WebClient) the default behavior is to re-authenticate on every request that requires authorization. This means if you look in  Fiddler or some other HTTP client Proxy that captures requests you’ll see that each request re-authenticates: Here are two requests fired back to back: and you can see the 401 challenge, the 200 response for both requests. If you watch this same conversation between a browser and a server you’ll notice that the first 401 is also there but the subsequent 401 requests are not present. WebRequest.PreAuthenticate And this is precisely what the WebRequest.PreAuthenticate property does: It’s a caching mechanism that caches the connection credentials for a given domain in the active process and resends it on subsequent requests. It does not send credentials on the first request but it will cache credentials on subsequent requests after authentication has succeeded: string url = "http://rasnote/wconnect/admin/wc.wc?_maintain~ShowStatus"; HttpWebRequest req = HttpWebRequest.Create(url) as HttpWebRequest; req.PreAuthenticate = true; req.Credentials = new NetworkCredential("rick", "secret", "rasnote"); req.AuthenticationLevel = System.Net.Security.AuthenticationLevel.MutualAuthRequested; req.UserAgent = ": Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.3) Gecko/20090824 Firefox/3.5.3 (.NET CLR 4.0.20506)"; WebResponse resp = req.GetResponse(); resp.Close(); req = HttpWebRequest.Create(url) as HttpWebRequest; req.PreAuthenticate = true; req.Credentials = new NetworkCredential("rstrahl", "secret", "rasnote"); req.AuthenticationLevel = System.Net.Security.AuthenticationLevel.MutualAuthRequested; req.UserAgent = ": Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.3) Gecko/20090824 Firefox/3.5.3 (.NET CLR 4.0.20506)"; resp = req.GetResponse(); which results in the desired sequence: where only the first request doesn’t send credentials. This is quite useful as it saves quite a few round trips to the server – bascially it saves one auth request request for every authenticated request you make. In most scenarios I think you’d want to send these credentials this way but one downside to this is that there’s no way to log out the client. Since the client always sends the credentials once authenticated only an explicit operation ON THE SERVER can undo the credentials by forcing another login explicitly (ie. re-challenging with a forced 401 request). Forcing Basic Authentication Credentials on the first Request On a few occasions I’ve needed to send credentials on a first request – mainly to some oddball third party Web Services (why you’d want to use Basic Auth on a Web Service is beyond me – don’t ask but it’s not uncommon in my experience). This is true of certain services that are using Basic Authentication (especially some Apache based Web Services) and REQUIRE that the authentication is sent right from the first request. No challenge first. Ugly but there it is. Now the following works only with Basic Authentication because it’s pretty straight forward to create the Basic Authorization ‘token’ in code since it’s just an unencrypted encoding of the user name and password into base64. As you might guess this is totally unsecure and should only be used when using HTTPS/SSL connections (i’m not in this example so I can capture the Fiddler trace and my local machine doesn’t have a cert installed, but for production apps ALWAYS use SSL with basic auth). The idea is that you simply add the required Authorization header to the request on your own along with the authorization string that encodes the username and password: string url = "http://rasnote/wconnect/admin/wc.wc?_maintain~ShowStatus"; HttpWebRequest req = HttpWebRequest.Create(url) as HttpWebRequest; string user = "rick"; string pwd = "secret"; string domain = "www.west-wind.com"; string auth = "Basic " + Convert.ToBase64String(System.Text.Encoding.Default.GetBytes(user + ":" + pwd)); req.PreAuthenticate = true; req.AuthenticationLevel = System.Net.Security.AuthenticationLevel.MutualAuthRequested;req.Headers.Add("Authorization", auth); req.UserAgent = ": Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.3) Gecko/20090824 Firefox/3.5.3 (.NET CLR 4.0.20506)"; WebResponse resp = req.GetResponse(); resp.Close(); This works and causes the request to immediately send auth information to the server. However, this only works with Basic Auth because you can actually create the authentication credentials easily on the client because it’s essentially clear text. The same doesn’t work for Windows or Digest authentication since you can’t easily create the authentication token on the client and send it to the server. Another issue with this approach is that PreAuthenticate has no effect when you manually force the authentication. As far as Web Request is concerned it never sent the authentication information so it’s not actually caching the value any longer. If you run 3 requests in a row like this: string url = "http://rasnote/wconnect/admin/wc.wc?_maintain~ShowStatus"; HttpWebRequest req = HttpWebRequest.Create(url) as HttpWebRequest; string user = "ricks"; string pwd = "secret"; string domain = "www.west-wind.com"; string auth = "Basic " + Convert.ToBase64String(System.Text.Encoding.Default.GetBytes(user + ":" + pwd)); req.PreAuthenticate = true; req.Headers.Add("Authorization", auth); req.UserAgent = ": Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.3) Gecko/20090824 Firefox/3.5.3 (.NET CLR 4.0.20506)"; WebResponse resp = req.GetResponse(); resp.Close(); req = HttpWebRequest.Create(url) as HttpWebRequest; req.PreAuthenticate = true; req.Credentials = new NetworkCredential(user, pwd, domain); req.UserAgent = ": Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.3) Gecko/20090824 Firefox/3.5.3 (.NET CLR 4.0.20506)"; resp = req.GetResponse(); resp.Close(); req = HttpWebRequest.Create(url) as HttpWebRequest; req.PreAuthenticate = true; req.Credentials = new NetworkCredential(user, pwd, domain); req.UserAgent = ": Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.3) Gecko/20090824 Firefox/3.5.3 (.NET CLR 4.0.20506)"; resp = req.GetResponse(); you’ll find the trace looking like this: where the first request (the one we explicitly add the header to) authenticates, the second challenges, and any subsequent ones then use the PreAuthenticate credential caching. In effect you’ll end up with one extra 401 request in this scenario, which is still better than 401 challenges on each request. Getting Access to WebRequest in Classic .NET Web Service Clients If you’re running a classic .NET Web Service client (non-WCF) one issue with the above is how do you get access to the WebRequest to actually add the custom headers to do the custom Authentication described above? One easy way is to implement a partial class that allows you add headers with something like this: public partial class TaxService { protected NameValueCollection Headers = new NameValueCollection(); public void AddHttpHeader(string key, string value) { this.Headers.Add(key,value); } public void ClearHttpHeaders() { this.Headers.Clear(); } protected override WebRequest GetWebRequest(Uri uri) { HttpWebRequest request = (HttpWebRequest) base.GetWebRequest(uri); request.Headers.Add(this.Headers); return request; } } where TaxService is the name of the .NET generated proxy class. In code you can then call AddHttpHeader() anywhere to add additional headers which are sent as part of the GetWebRequest override. Nice and simple once you know where to hook it. For WCF there’s a bit more work involved by creating a message extension as described here: http://weblogs.asp.net/avnerk/archive/2006/04/26/Adding-custom-headers-to-every-WCF-call-_2D00_-a-solution.aspx. FWIW, I think that HTTP header manipulation should be readily available on any HTTP based Web Service client DIRECTLY without having to subclass or implement a special interface hook. But alas a little extra work is required in .NET to make this happen Not a Common Problem, but when it happens… This has been one of those issues that is really rare, but it’s bitten me on several occasions when dealing with oddball Web services – a couple of times in my own work interacting with various Web Services and a few times on customer projects that required interaction with credentials-first services. Since the servers determine the protocol, we don’t have a choice but to follow the protocol. Lovely following standards that implementers decide to ignore, isn’t it? :-}© Rick Strahl, West Wind Technologies, 2005-2010Posted in .NET  CSharp  Web Services
