• MacBook Pro Late 2009 SATA Resets, Slowness (Is my motherboard dying on both machines?)

  My MacBook Pro runs slower the longer it's on. I am getting kernel warnings. Some, but not all, resets correlate with AC power connects and disconnects. I don't think the warnings do. (How do I tell?) What are these errors? What causes them? Can this damage the drive or corrupt data? • Branding Support for TopComponents

  In yesterday's blog entry, you saw how a menu item can be created, in this case with the label "Brand", especially for Java classes that extend TopComponent: And, as you can see here, it's not about the name of the class, i.e., not because the class above is named "BlaTopComponent" because below the "Brand" men item is also available for the class named "Bla": Both the files BlaTopComponent.java and Bla.java have the "Brand" menu item available, because both extend the "org.openide.windows.TopComponent"  class, as shown yesterday. Now we continue by creating a new JPanel, with checkboxes for each part of a TopComponent that we consider to be brandable. • TinyMCE with AJAX (Update Panel) never has a value.

  I wanted to use a Rich Text Editor for a text area inside an update panel. Alright I do the good ol' tinyMCE.init({ //settings here }); Test it out and it disappears after doing a update panel update. I figure out from a question on here that it should be in the page_load function so it gets run even on async postbacks. Alright do that and the panel stays. However, upon trying to submit the value from my textarea, the text of it always comes back as empty because my form validator always says "You must enter a description" even when I enter text into it. This happens the first time the page loads and after async postbacks have been done to the page. Alright I find this http://www.dallasjclark.com/using-tinymce-with-ajax/ and http://stackoverflow.com/questions/699615/cant-post-twice-from-the-same-ajax-tinymce-textarea. I try to add this code into my page load function right after the tinyMCE.init. Doing this breaks all my jquery being called also in the page_load after it, and it still has the same problem. I am still pretty beginner to client side scripting stuff, so maybe I need to put the code in a different spot than page_load? Not sure the posts I linked weren't very clue on where to put that code.   Hello everyone, Im currently working on a website in the Zend Framework and finding it very useful indeed. I want both a blog and a forum in this website and wondered if there are any open-source projects of this nature that I would be able to simply copy and paste into my modular project. I was using Wordpress and BBpress previously so something like that would be good, although I do not want to hack my Zend Auth to use the Wordpress authentication system, seems like too much hard work/hacky to do. • Exporting to PNG from Adobe Illustrator cutting off edges

  I created a 40px x 40px image in Adobe Illustrator CS4. I saved as an .ai file and then tried to export as a PNG. Adobe Illustrator automatically crops the background and tightens the export to a rect around all the objects which if fine. In this case, I am not working edge to edge so my image is not quite 40px wide. But, unfortunately, Illustrator is not exporting the entire image. I end up with an image that is 34px wide. Indeed, the icon I draw starts on the left hand side but the right edge of my object cut off. Any ideas why this is happening? I can't imagine Illustrator CS4 can't correctly to export to PNG.

• Delphi 2010 - Decode Base64 encoded image from XML doc

  I am trying to decode a base64 encoded EMF image from an XML document in my application and render it on screen, however, it never seems to appear. If I copy/paste the data from the XML document into Notepad++ and use the Base64 Decode option and save the file as a .emf it opens fine in mspaint. So I think the issue is how I am decoding it. I have tried the following decode methods described in these articles: How to encode / decode Base 64 string http://www.swissdelphicenter.ch/torry/showcode.php?id=1223 I have also tried the TIdDecoderMIME class to no avail. Does anyone know the most reliable way of decoding a base64 encoded string from XML?

  I have set up references to 2 web services in a separate assembly TestProj.Core. I reference this Project in a Web Application Project called TestProj.Web. When I setup the references in TestProj.Core the wizard gave me an app.config and through an application settings section into it. How do I get these settings to my web app? Copy and paste these into web.config? "Always Copy" the app.config out to the bin directory? Any good articles on mutiple configs?

  I am running a centos 5 image on the vmware player and as of recently, I was able to check out from a repository that is no longer working. I am now getting: svn: Unknown hostname 'www.kennykong.com' It is a valid hostname and I know this because I have this svn location on Windows and I can browse/checkout no problem. • Minimax algorithm: Cost/evaluation function?

  Hi guys, A school project has me writing a Date game in C++ (example at http://www.cut-the-knot.org/Curriculum/Games/Date.shtml) where the computer player must implement a Minimax algorithm with alpha-beta pruning. Thus far, I understand what the goal is behind the algorithm in terms of maximizing potential gains while assuming the opponent will minify them. However, none of the resources I read helped me understand how to design the evaluation function the minimax bases all it's decisions on. All the examples have had arbitrary numbers assigned to the leaf nodes, however, I need to actually assign meaningful values to those nodes. Intuition tells me it'd be something like +1 for a win leaf node, and -1 for a loss, but how do intermediate nodes evaluate? Any help would be most appreciated.

  Hello, I have a fairly simple question about these 2 templating engines. I'm trying to make a future/paste date, a fixed time from now, e.g. 18 months ago, or tomorrow. I know that it is possible to do this with a java date object inside a velocity/freemarker template (something like $date.add(2,-18)), but I would like to do this with DateTool or freemarker core. This is something that I see as purely presentational (just think at the default dates you see in flight booking forms), so I can't see any reason why a templating engine shouldn't be able to do this. Is it possible though? If so, how?

  I'm trying to get the offset of a control relative to the top of its window, but I'm running into trouble when using the TransformToAncestor method of the control. Am I misunderstanding what WPF thinks of as an "ancestor"? I would think that given the result of GetWindow, that window would be an ancestor of the control. Are there certain nesting patters that would cause the line of ancestry to be cut off at a certain point?

Not sure if this is the right approach, but in my LoadView method I have: self.navigationController.view.frame = CGRectMake(0,48,320,432); The navbar appears below the ad. When I rotate the phone to landscape is there a way to get the navbar (which is now across the top) to be 432px wide so it doesn't get cut off under the ad? I tried writing a method that is called when the device orientation changes, but it seems like manipulating the view on the navigationcontroller screws things up for every orientation except portrait. The view keeps getting shorter until it disappears. Thanks, Howie

• Tips on implementing a custom UITextView interface on the iPhone?

  I am trying to implement a control to edit text that will display the text in multiple colors. None of the solutions I have attempted yet have been good enough. UITextView cannot accomplish this. All of the text must be the same color. Using CoreGraphics to draw the text does not allow the text to be selected. Using a UIWebView, DIV and PRE tags cannot be set to contentEditable on Mobile Safari. Currently playing with using an off-screen TEXTAREA and an on-screen DIV to show the rendered text. This works pretty well, except supporting all of these at the same time seems impossible: click-to-type, click-to-move-cursor, click-and-hold-select/copy/paste. Anyone have any tips on this predicament? I've been trying to find any preexisting library out there that will accomplish this in a good way, to no luck. I'm open to any ideas!

• jQuery UI " $("#datepicker").datepicker is not a function"

  When i use DatePicker, jQuery's UI plugin, in an existing .aspx page i get errors that "$("#datepicker").datepicker is not a function". However, when I copy and paste the same code that creates and uses the DatePicker to an html file that's also in the same directory as the aspx page, it works flawlessly. This leads me to assume that there are some JS files in the aspx page that's preventing the DatePicker or maybe jQuery's UI JS files to load properly. Can anyone confirm my beliefs or provide any tips on finding the culprit that's interfering with jQuery's UI plugins?

• Importing Thawte trial certificates into a Java keystore

  Hello, I'm trying to configure a Tomcat server with SSL. I've generated a keypair thus: $ keytool -genkeypair -alias tomcat -keyalg RSA -keystore keys Next I generate a certificate signing request: $ keytool -certreq -keyalg RSA -alias tomcat -keystore keys -file tomcat.csr Then I copy-paste the contents of tomcat.csr into a form on Thawte's website, asking for a trial SSL certificate. In return I get two certificates delimited with -----BEGIN ... -----END, that I save under tomcat.crt and thawte.crt. (Thawte calls the second certificate a 'Thawte Test CA Root' certificate). When I try to import either of them it fails: $ keytool -importcert -alias tomcat -file tomcat.crt -keystore keys Enter keystore password: keytool error: java.lang.Exception: Failed to establish chain from reply $ keytool -importcert -alias thawte -file thawtetest.crt -keystore keys Enter keystore password: keytool error: java.lang.Exception: Input not an X.509 certificate Adding the -trustcacerts option to either of these commands doesn't change anything either. Any idea what I am doing wrong here?

• Page looks good in most browsers except in IE7...why

  Hi, The following page looks good in Firefox, Safari, Chrome, IE6 and IE8... but it looks bad in IE7. I don't have IE7 but I need to fix this issue because someone seen it in IE7 and it looks bad. Does anyone has any idea why this page renders different in IE7?...and what is the solution to make it display correctly? http://www.aetna.com/2009annualreport/mainBoard.html Problem: When you click on the "Board of Directors" or "Management Team" link and the listing table panel opens up, the far right third of the panel is getting cut off. • RAD/Eclipse Eclipse Test and Performance Tools Platform, export data to text file

  I am using the RAD (also on Eclipse) Test and Performance Monitoring. I monitor CPU performance time with it, on particular methods, etc. It is a good tool for my monitoring my applications but I can't copy/paste or export the output to a text file format. So I can send to the others. There has to be a way to export this? Also, I can save the output to file but it is '*.trcxml' binary file? has anyone seen a parser for this file format?

• Copying Pasting Word 2007 docs to HTML WYSIWYG editors

  Microsoft word has a ton of proprietary formatting and styles that do not translate well to html WYSIWYG editors. When you paste them over to the html editor and try to edit the pasted info it causes all kinds of clashing styles. I want to be able to keep the general structure but leave out the proprietary stuff. Essentially I want to save clients the headache of having to completely strip out all formatting forcing them to redo all the styling again in the WYSIWYG, but at the same time avoid the conflicts that Word formatting creates. Any ideas?
