  From time to time, I've encountered issues with OS X clients' network connections (Wired and Wireless, Leopard/Snow Leopard) where nothing will fix the issue, until you reboot. Is there a particular 'network service/process' I should be watching out for? I was thinking it would be useful to know of a command that will reset a 'network connection' type service/process (same as running a sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart). Thanks!

• internet connection occasionally stops, but can still ping .com sites

  hi, every half hour or so, for 1-2 minutes my browser will stop navigating to sites, "waiting for ... to respond.." within 2 minutes i will be able to connect to sites and browse like normal again. weird thing is, while i cannot connect to sites, i get ping replies from any .com i type in. this happens on my home wireless network, using FF and IE on a win7 desktop AND FF on an ubuntu laptop the network is wpa2 secured, these are the only connections.

  I just bought a Linksys Wireless-N PCI Adapter with Dual-Band, and I tried to log into the usual 2.4GHz 802.11n network with the usual pass key. Only now, the list says it's a 802.11g network and my pass key is incorrect. Does anyone know this problem? And/Or how to fix it?

  When I run VirtualBox (or other virtualisation software) it lets me select how many cores I like to allocate to a virtual machine. Since I have a dual core 2.66gHz Intel Core i7 with hyperthreading, would I be assigning "cores" in VirtualBox from the four threads that the i7 provides, or only from the two physical cores? • Setting up router: I can get online via Ethernet, and I can connect to router wirelessly, but can't

  I'm setting up a new D-Link N300 router, and trying to connect a MacBook Pro and a MacBook, both running OS X 10.6. As the question says, either computer can connect to the internet when connected to the router via Ethernet. And either one can get on the router's wireless network. But when connected wirelessly (without the Ethernet cable plugged in), neither one can get online. I can't figure out why that would be. Any help appreciated.

• Browsing Bombs After a Short While

  After a reboot, my internet connection lasts perhaps a half hour or so before tanking. I can ping (by both IP and hostname), but I cannot browse. If I restart the "Network Store Interface Service", my connection comes back. What could be failing with that service or its dependent services that would kill my ability to browse? For some system info, I'm using a Sony Vaio with a fully-patched Windows Vista install and with an Intel 3945ABG wireless adapter.

I'm looking for a way to do realtime inter-app communication in iOS via wi-fi (I need about 150 ft range and don't think bluetooth offers this) and wonder about the peer-to-peer connectivity offered by GameKit which, apparently offers both bluetooth and wi-fi connectivity. My question is: must participating devices be members of an available wireless network (via a wireless router) or is this connectivity truly peer-to-peer requiring no router? I understand Wi-fi Direct is coming and would likely be an option. Just wondering if I can do this utilizing services available in iOS today. Thanks! Tim

  Hi, guys, I'm running Windows 7. Whenever I disable the wireless adapter, the "Disable" option does not change to "enable". Similarly, for the "Local Area Connection", when I click on "Disable", the adapter gets disabled, but the "Disable" option remains. In summary, I am never offered the option to enable an adapter.
