• Template error with django-photologue: 'Permission Denied'

  I'm in the process of re-setting up my Django development environment after reinstalling my OS. We use django-photologue with our project, which I installed using easy_install. However, I'm getting a template error on every template that has a photologue photo: TemplateSyntaxError at /newsroom/news/ Caught an exception while rendering: (13, 'Permission denied') One example of the line where the error is located: <img src="{{ photo.get_list_url }}"> I'm totally stumped--I've used photologue for this project on many different platforms and have never had this problem. Google yields nothing. I'm currently using Jolicloud (based on Ubuntu Jaunty). I'm working with a pre-existing database, so all of the photo sizes and everything have already been set up.

• How can I accept a hash mark in a URL via $_GET?

  From what I have been able to understand, hash marks (#) aren't sent to the server, so it doesn't seem likely that I will be able to use raw PHP to parse data like in the URL below: index.php?name=Ben&address=101 S 10th St Suite #301 I'm looking to pre-populate form fields with this $_GET data. How would I do this with Javascript (or jQuery), and is there a fallback that wouldn't break my form for people not using Javascript? Currently if there is a hash (usually in the address field), everything after that is not parsed in or stored in $_GET.

• Distributing WPF apps to a legacy user base: How seamless is it?

  I'm considering developing a WPF application, to be hosted by a legacy Windows app (C++), and I'm trying to get a better sense of how feasible it'll be to do so, given the broad user base I'm targeting. Knowing WPF targets .NET 3.5, I'm looking for some insight as to what the field looks like right now -- who's already got the runtime, whether it's distributed by Windows Update, if so, how (e.g., as an optional or required download, to which operating systems, etc.), whether XP pre-XP2 supports it (and how), and so on. The current version's got many thousands of users, using all manner of Windows operating systems, and while I'd very much like to leverage WPF to breathe some life into their user experience, I want to make sure I'm not shutting anyone out by doing so, or burdening them with a download they might have to do manually. I realize most, or all, of this information's out there already, in various places, but I figured I'd ask here first, since I'm sure some of you've probably already gone down this road and have valuable experiences to share. • Retail knowledge inference

  So i am doing a research on how can i infer knowledge from reports (not with a specific format), but after pre processing, i should have some kind of formatted data. A fairly basic inference would be: "Retailer has X stock." and "X is sellable." - "Retailer sells X" the knowledge i focus is retail domain oriented, and if possible i should improve its efficiency with each iteration. Is this scifi(some of my friends think it is)? The related stuff i find online are "expert systems" that find anomalies, fuzzy inference systems and some rants about "easy knowledge". Can you help me with some points for me to focus or orient me in some research directions? blueomega

• How to add Transactions with a DataSet created using the Add Connection Wizard?

  I have a DataSet that I have added to my project where I can Insert and Add records using the Add Query function in Visual Studio 2010, however I want to add transactions to this, I have found a few examples but cannot seem to find one that works with these. I know I need to use the SQLClient.SQLTransaction Class somehow. I used the Add New Data Source Wizard and added the Tables/View/Functions I need, I just need an example using this process such as How to get the DataConnection my DataSet has used. Assuming all options have been set in the wizard and I am only using the pre-defined adapters and options asked for in this wizard, how to I add the Transaction logic to my Database. For example I have a DataSet called ProductDataSet with the XSD created for this, I have then added my Stock table as a Datasource and Added an AddStock method with a wizard, this also if a new item calls an AddItem method, if either of these fails I want to rollback the AddItem and AddStock in this case.

• PHP or Javascript or other - Draw simple shapes onto images?

  I basically have an image of a world map and i would like to place a pin image at a specified pixel co-ordinate ontop of this world map image. It's for a website, so ideally the solution should be in PHP or Javascript (i'm avoiding Java and Flash as i want it to be as simple as possible). I had a look at the processing.js library but it is way to big and bloated for just performing this simple task. Is there a pre-existing Javascript function which will allow me to do this? Or a more simple javascript library that i can use? (processing.js was a bit too advanced for me, i couldnt get it working lol) In terms of a PHP solution, i would prefer taking the load off the server and onto the client for this task, but i would still like to hear methods for doing it in PHP if they are suitable. • Silverlight 4 Assembly Sharing Problem

  I have a WPF .NET 4.0 class library referencing a Silverlight 4 class library. The SL library compiles fine but when I compile the WPF class library, I get: Error 2 Unknown build error, 'Cannot resolve dependency to assembly 'System.Windows, Version=2.0.5.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=7cec85d7bea7798e' because it has not been preloaded. When using the ReflectionOnly APIs, dependent assemblies must be pre-loaded or loaded on demand through the ReflectionOnlyAssemblyResolve event.' MyProj.Presentation.Wpf I figure the problem must be similar to the one mentioned here: http://markti.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!D92CF278F0F91957!273.entry but my WPF library doesn't contain any XAML that references a user control from my SL library. In fact, my SL library doesn't have any XAML in it at all. It does, however, have several shared DependencyObjects, such as an EventCommander (binding UI element events to Commands), and some DataTemplate helpers. Is there any way I can narrow down the problem here? And has anyone found a way of effectively referencing UI elements in a SL4 project from .NET 4.0? Thanks.

• How do I integrate ActiveMQ with a HornetQ ESB (or access the HornetQ directly from C#)?

  I've got an ActiveMQ ESB that I am using between several C# assemblies across a couple different systems. I need to start receiving notifications being sent out by a new system from it's HornetQ ESB. As far as I can tell the HornetQ is pre-2.0.0GA. I'd like to just use Camel to set up routing between the HornetQ ESB and my ActiveMQ ESB, but so far we haven't been able to get even that far. I'm not sure how much flexibility I've got to change the HornetQ configuration (say to add support for StompConnect or something like that). Does anyone of a viable option for getting access to the HornetQ ESB through ActiveMQ (or directly from C# if necessary)?

• Materialized Query Table in SQL Server 2005

  In DB2 there is a support for Materialized Query Table (MQT). Basicly you write a query and create a MQT. But the difference from View is that the query is pre-executed and resulting data is stored in MQT and there are some options when to refresh/syncronize the MQT with base tables. I want same functionality in SQL Server. Is there a way to achieve same result? I've tables with millions of rows, and I want to show summary (like total # of members, total expense and etc) in dashboard. So I don't want to count every time user gets to dashboard, instead I want to store them in table and I want that table to be refresh each night. Any kind of hints, answers,suggestions and ideas are welcome. Thanks.

  This San Mateo development company makes a freely downloadable convenient packaging of many plugins for Eclipse called Aptana. I was recently in an environment where Aptana came pre-installed. Not only is it a good IDE for RoR, it also does a somewhat decent job (sans debugging) for PHP, Python, HTML, CSS, and Javascript. According to their own web site, their IDE also supports Adobe Air and the iPhone. If you are currently using Eclipse, then do you also use Aptana too? What, if any, are the drawbacks to using Aptana?

• Codeigniter redirect with base_url

  I noticed that anchor('controller/method') produces a different result than a mere <a href="controller/method"> in that anchor() adds the base_url: anchor(): <a href="http://localhost/dts/controller/method">View Timesheet</a> <a>: <a href="controller/method">View Timesheet</a> How do I achieve this same effect (anchor) in my controller? That is, adding the base_url in my redirects? I'm asking because I have a form that calls another method method2, which has a redirect('controller/method'). But it redirects incorrectly to controller/controller/method, then if the form is submitted again, redirects to controller/controller/controller/method and so on. That's why I'd like to know how to redirect to controller/method with the base_url pre-prended to it. redirect( base_url() . 'controller/method' ) doesn't work. Any ideas?

• git hooks - regenerate a file and add it to each commit ?

  I'd like to automatically generate a file and add it to a commit if it has changed. Is it possible, if so, what hooks should I use? Context: I'm programming a CSS library. It has several CSS files, and at the end I want to produce a compacted and minimized version. Right now my workflow is: Modify the css files x.css and y.css git add x.css y.css Execute minimize.sh which parses all the css files on my lib, minimizes them and produces a min.css file git add min.css git commit -m 'modified x and y doing foo and bar' I would like to have steps 3 and 4 done automatically via a git hook. Is that possible? I've never used git hooks before. After reading the man page, I think I need to use the @pre-commit@ hook. But can I invoke git add min.css, or will I break the internet?

• Xcode / Interface Builder - better workflow from designer to coder?

  Were dealing with some pretty custom UI elements while building our OSX / Cocoa and iPhone / IPad apps. I was wondering if anyone has good recommendations or tricks for getting a better workflow between UI designers and coders while using Xcode / Interface Builder? It seems that many things require programmatic settings with UI editing in Cocoa... if you stray from the pre-built UI elements then you can't really easily drag-drop build a UI... instead we end up handing off a design doc ( photoshop/illustrator ) and then the poor developer has to deal with recreating this masterpiece in code or by using interface builder - usually a combination of both. This work flow is leading us to not so great results and we have to re-iterate around the UI elements to get them to work better. We love CSS and / or Flash designer to developer workflow where the UI could look exactly as it should and the hand off to developer was more seamless. Is there anyone out there who has some tricks - or insights into getting better workflow when using tools like Xcode / Interface Builder and doing Cocoa apps?

• Include everything, Separate with "using"

  I'm developing a C++ library. It got me thinking of the ways Java and C# handle including different components of the libraries. For example, Java uses "import" to allow use of classes from other packages, while C# simply uses "using" to import entire modules. My questions is, would it be a good idea to #include everything in the library in one massive include and then just use the using directive to import specific classes and modules? Or would this just be down right crazy? EDIT: Good responses so far, here are a few mitigating factors which I feel add to this idea: 1) Internal #includes are kept as normal (short and to the point) 2) The file which includes everything is optionally supplied with the library to those who wish to use it3) You could optionally make the big include file part of the pre-compiled header

  hi, i need help modelling a use case diagram from a topic, it will be in java GUI Design a Calculator that 1.Allow user to key in a legitimate arithmetic statement that involves number, operator +, - and bracket '(' and ')' ; 2.When user press “Calculate” button, display result; 3.Some legitimate statement would be ((3+2)-4+2) (equals 3) and (-2+3)-(3-1) (equals -1); 4.You should NOT use a pre-existing function that just take in the statement as a parameter and returns the result but you should write the logic of parsing every character in your code. 5.Store the last statement and answer so it is displayed when user press the “Last calculation” button. i have designed two use case diagrams using UML on netbeans 6.5.1, one of the use case i am not sure whether is it containing too much use cases etc, while the other is what i think could be too vague for the topic.i hope to get some feedback on whether the use case diagram are appropriate, thanks.

• Multi-platform development from one computer

  I am planning to build a new development computer for both Windows & Linux platforms. On Windows, my development would be primarily in .NET/C#/IIS/MSSQL Server. On Linux—preferably Ubuntu—my development would be in Ruby and Python. I am thinking of buying a laptop with Windows 7 pre-installed with 4GB RAM, Intel Core 2 Duo, and 320 GB HD; running 2 VMs for both Windows and Linux development with the host OS as my work station. Of course, I would be running DBs and web servers on the respective platforms. Is this a typical setup? My only concern is running two VMs side by side. Not sure if this configuration would be optimal. Alternative would be to do my Windows development on the host Windows 7 OS. What are your thoughts?

  Hi there I'm a .NET guy originally, working in Java recently, and finding I'm really missing LINQ to Objects, specifically for performing filtering against collections. A few people here on Stack Overflow have answered the "LINQ for Java?" question with a single word : Quaere However, on the site it clearly states "Pre-Beta", and there's been no commits to their code for over a year, so I'm guessing the project is pretty much dead. Is anyone actually using this, and / or have any experience with it? The second most common answer appears to be "use Google Collections". Is this the most appropriate Java way? Cheers Marty

• How do I mock a custom field that is deleted so that south migrations run?

  I have removed an app that contained a couple of custom fields from my project. Now when I try to run my migrations I get ImportError, naturally. These fields were very basic customizations like below: from django.db.models.fields import IntegerField class SomeField(IntegerField): def get_internal_type(self): return "SomeField" def db_type(self, connectio=None): return 'integer' def clean(self, value): # some custom cleanup pass So, none of them contain any database level customizations. When I removed this code, I've created migrations so the subsequent migration all ran fine. But when I try to run them on a pre-deletion database I realized my mistake. I can re-create a bare-bones app and make these imports work, but Ideally I would like to know if South has a mechanism to resolve these issues? Or is there any best practises? It would be cool if I could solve these issues just by modifying my migrations and not touching the codebase. (Django 1.3, South 0.7.3)

  This might seem like a stupid easy question to some of you, but i'm new to jquery and can't get my datepicker to work like it should. This is my textbox where the datepicker is attached to: <asp:TextBox runat="server" ID="StartMonth" AutoPostBack="true" class="month-picker" /> and here is how i attach the datepicker. (I have multiple TextBoxes where the datepicker should be attached to, so i used the class attribute instead of the id.) $(".month-picker").datepicker({ dateFormat: 'MM yy', changeYear: true, yearRange: '-9:+9' }); What i want to archive is when i click into the textbox where the text is "August 2012" it should set the pre-selected date of the datepicker to this date.   I am trying to use the new LiveConnect features introduced in Java 6 Update 10. Code looks like this (copied from the applet tutorial): Class<?> c = Class.forName("com.sun.java.browser.plugin2.DOM"); Method m = c.getMethod("getDocument", java.applet.Applet.class); Document document = (Document) m.invoke(null, this); But all I am getting is a ClassNotFoundException for the entry-point class. This on the Mac, 10.6, with both Firefox and Safari. Java Plug-in 1.6.0_22 Using JRE version 1.6.0_22-b04-307-10M3261 Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM Is this not implemented on the Mac? Or do I need to configure something? All I need to do is get and set the value of form elements on the page, so I would be fine with an older (pre-6u10) API if that works better.

• Opening a Silverlight project causes APPCRASH is Visual Studio 2008

  Hi guys I've got to add a Silverlight project to a solution for a deployment procedure (it's a pre-build dependency for the main project). I've installed Silverlight tools v3, silverlight itself and the silverlight sdk 3, and am using Visual Studio 2008 with ReSharper and the DevArt oracle database tools. Every time I go to open the relevant silverlight .csproj file VS crashes with the following error message: Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: devenv.exe Application Version: 9.0.30729.1 Application Timestamp: 488f2b50 Fault Module Name: StackHash_20af Fault Module Version: 6.0.6001.18000 Fault Module Timestamp: 4791a7a6 Exception Code: c0000374 Exception Offset: 000b015d This also happens if I try to create a new silverlight project from scratch. • How do I get the position of a result in the list after an order_by?

  I'm trying to find an efficient way to find the rank of an object in the database related to it's score. My naive solution looks like this: rank = 0 for q in Model.objects.all().order_by('score'): if q.name == 'searching_for_this' return rank rank += 1 It should be possible to get the database to do the filtering, using order_by: Model.objects.all().order_by('score').filter(name='searching_for_this') But there doesn't seem to be a way to retrieve the index for the order_by step after the filter. Is there a better way to do this? (Using python/django and/or raw SQL.) My next thought is to pre-compute ranks on insert but that seems messy.

• Emailing HTML from within an iPhone app is stopping at special characters

  Hi, I have an iPhone app that will let users email some pre-determined text as HTML. I'm having a problem in that if the text contains special characters within the text (e.g., ampersand &, , <), the NSString variable that I use for sending the body of the email gets truncated at the special character. I'm not sure how to fix this (I tried using the method stringByAddingPercentEscapesUsingEncoding…but this hasn't fixed the problems). Thoughts on what I'm doing wrong / how to fix it? • iphone: is there any secure way to establish 2-way SSL from an application

  Hi I need to establish a HTTPS 2-way SSL connection from my iPhone application to the customer's server. However I don't see any secure way to deliver the client side certificates to the application (it's an e-banking app, so security is really an issue). From what I have found so far the only way that the app would be able to access the certificate is to provide it pre-bundeled with the application itself, or expose an URL from which it could be fetched (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2037172/iphone-app-with-ssl-client-certs). The thing is that neither of this two ways prevent some third party to get the certificate, which if accepted as a risk eliminates the need for 2-way SSL (since anyone can have the client certificate). The whole security protocol should look like this: - HTTPS 2-way SSL to authenticate the application - OTP (token) based user registration (client side key pair generated at this step) - SOAP / WSS XML-Signature (requests signed by the keys generated earlier) Any idea on how to establish the first layer of security (HTTPS) ? regards
