  • Windows 7 CMD.exe jumplist possible?

    It seems CMD does not have it's own jumplist.Has someone created one already? I would like to be able to pin script and command files to cmd.exe only.I can pin them separately with the /explorer as the first line on target box but i would like all of them to be pinned to cmd.exe by default.Kind of like all folders are pinned to explorer.exe.I also made a rather bad looking mockup to make the question a little more clear: http://img576.imageshack.us/img576/9263/cmdjumplist.jpg

  • how to I change the owner of a folder on my server?

    OK I'll be more specific - I have uploaded a bunch of folders via ftp. These now all have the the owner name of the account which I logged into FTP using. How do I change the owner to be the server name? and How do I find out what name the server is using? I'm pretty new to server permissions and the like, so please be gentle :) BTW, I'm using a linux server.

  • Perl program doesn't get displayed in browser (windows)

    system info: i have installed XAMPP on my machine having Window XP OS . also installed Apache2.2, now, i have created two folders in C:\xampp\htdocs they are php and perl . these folder contains programs in their respective languages (ie index.php and index.pl respectively) when i type in browser : http: //localhost:88/php/ the program in index.php gets executed and o/p is displayed in browser but , when i type: http://localhost:88/perl/ browser displays a blank page PROBLEM : how to run .pl file in above scenario ?

  • How to backup a folder and it's subfolders to CD/DVD

    If I've got a folder structure that I'd like to split so that it could be burned to multiple CDs or DVDs, what's the best tool out there to accomplish this? The folders/files have to be natively accessible once the split is done (no compression or physical splitting that would require a later join), and the folder structure should still remain intact as it spaces discs. Any ideas?

    In many Windows programs when I open a file, the GUI dialogue that starts with "Look in:" and provides a list of directories and files to open has a thin panel on the left-hand side with the following 5 icons: Recent Places Desktop Libraries Computer Network Is there a Registry Hack available for adding my own icons to this? I wish to add three for various folders related to the work that I do, and I haven't been able to find a way to customize this. Thanks in advance.

  • Windows Server 2008 Migration - Did I miss something?

    I'm running in to a few complications in my migration process. My main role has been a Linux / Sun administrator for 15 yrs so Windows server 2008 environment is a bit new to me, but understandable. Here's our situation and reason for migrating... We have a group of developers that develop VERY low-level software in Visual C with some inline assembler. All the workstations were separate from each other which cased consistency problems with development libraries, versions, etc... Our goal was to throw them all on to a Windows domain were we can control workstation installations, hot fixes (which can cause enormous problems), software versions, etc... All Development Workstations are running Windows XP x32 (sp3) and x64 (sp2) I running in to user permission problems and I was wondering maybe I missed one, tWO or a handful of things during my deployment. Here is what I have currently done: Installed and Activated Windows Server 2008 Added Roles for DNS and Active Directory Configured DNS with WINS for netbios name usage Added developers to AD and mapped their shared folders to their profile Added roles for IIS7 and configured the developers SVN Installed MySQL Enterprise Edition for development usage Not having a firm understanding of Group Policy I haven't delved deeply in to that realm yet. Problems I'm encountering: 1. When I configure any XP workstations to logon our domain, once a user uses their new AD login, everything goes well, except they have very restrictive permissions. (Eg: If a user opens any existing file, they don't have write access, except in their documents folder.) Since these guys are working on low system level events, they need to r/w all files. All I'm looking to restrict in software installations. Am I correct to assume that I can use WSUS to maintain the domains hot fixes and updates pushed to the workstations? I need to map a centralized shared development drive upon the users login. This is open to EVERYONE. Right now I have the users folders mapped upon login through their AD profile. But how do I map a share if I've already defined one within their profile in AD? Any responses would be very grateful. Do I have to configure and define a group policy for the domain users? Can I use Volume Mirroring to mirror / sync two drives on two separate servers or should I just script a rsync or MS Synctool? The drives simply store nightly system images.

  • Mac keyboard shortcut to rm file

    What's the Mac keyboard shortcut to rm a file? I know command + delete sends it to trash, but I want to permanently delete it, say with command + fn + delete. UPDATE: It doesn't look like there is one. So, I want to create a service with Automator and then assign a keyboard shortcut to it from System Preferences. I can get to Automator - Service - Service receives selected files or folders in Finder.app, but how do I write the script that then runs rm -rf #{file/folder name}?

  • Can files deleted with rm -rf be recovered?

    When I delete folders or files in through osx terminal using the rm -rf, where do they go? I heard that some say they are deleted directly, but some also say it only "remove the link to the file making it unable to be found or accessed without special tools" (http://superuser.com/questions/370786/where-do-files-and-directories-go-when-i-run-rm-rf-folder-or-file-name-in-ubu). Someone said something about ext3 being able to save rm-ed files in ubuntu but what about mac?

    I am trying to customize the way image folders appear in Win7 explorer, but I can't seem to get it under control. Is there a way to force it to always pick the first image in the folder as the preview image? Explorer has perfectly fine natural sort order. I don't understand why it messes it up by picking semi-random images. Thanks!

  • Changing Physical Path gives blank homepage

    I have two websites ASP Classic - www.company.com and www.companytesting.com. At this time of year, company.com is pointed to a folder called website2012 and companytesting.com is pointing to a folder called website2013. The contents of those two folders are almost identical, just minor changes for our season change (which I was supposed to do today - lol). Up until a couple of weeks ago, I was running Windows Server 2003. To update the "live" website, I'd make a copy of the test site folder, and rename it website2013R1, and point the test site there, then point the live site at website2012. We now have Windows Server 2008 R2 64. (I had someone migrate the websites to the new server for me.) The companytesting.com site, when I pointed it to website2013R1, worked fine. The company.com site, when I pointed it to website2013 (which worked just before, for the companytesting.com site) gives an empty page. (i.e. view source = nothing there.) There is nothing in the failed request log when this happens. I can use the Explore button/link (upper right) in IIS7.5 and see all of the files there. If I use the browse button (either in general or on the index.asp page) I get the blank page again. One weirdness about how these are set up is that companytesting.com uses a login (which I think is windows authentication - it's simply a single username and password for staff, and to keep the GoogleBots out of it). Obviously, company.com does not. But redirecting the to website2013r1 kept the login in place. (So I'm not absolutely clear whether that's attached to the folder or to the site. Hitting the company.com site after changing the path did not yield a password request.) The permissions on the folders all seem to be the same, but obviously, I'm missing something. Why isn't changing the physical path working? As is probably obvious, I'm not knowledgeable about servers. I did OK in 2003, but since it's not my main task and I'm buried right now, I have barely looked at 2008. So I may have really stupid questions when you ask me to check something.

    I've been searching for awhile now and haven't found anything that comes close to what I'm trying to accomplish. Right now my URL's look like this: www.website.com/something which are using the root folder /index.php Now I have created plugins within folders: /plugins/PLUGINNAME/index.php I want to be able to have URLs like: www.website.com/plugins/PLUGINNAME/anything/iwant/here which are all using /plugins/PLUGINNAME/index.php and not the root directory index.php. Currently www.website.com/plugins/PLUGINNAME/ works, but anything after /PLUGINNAME/xxx defaults to the /index.php.

Any ideas?

  • XP, how can I copy permissions from one partition to another, had no permssions and getting access denied trying to fix ?

    For some reason, I'm not sure why, I have no permissions in the security tab/advanced tab for one partition. I'm trying to add them back by copying them manually from another partition. However when I try to replace permissions entries on some files it says access denied, then I have to click continue. I haven't much clue what this is all about, but I'd like to fix this as some folders in my partition aren't accessible in shares from other machines.

  • Windows: Making Windows Explorer distinctive (changing background color or file/folder icons) for specific folder

    Is there a way to change the background color in Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 when the current folder being displayed meets a certain condition? Or is there a way I can change the icons of the files and folders within that folder so it's distinctive--similar to how Tortoise SVN does it for code checked out from a repository? Why? I'd like to do this for a deployment directory on a live server so users don't accidentally commit code to a certain environment. Like myself. :-)

    Hi, I've set up a shared email account at Exchange, which several users have access to, as a secondary mailbox (along with their personal mailbox) I would like to know if the following is possible all replies and/or mail created when "in" the shared account, is sent from the shared account all sent mail end up in the sent mail folder of the shared account, not the individual users sent mail folders users can set custom signatures when sending mail from the shared account Is this possible to accomplish with Exchange 2007/Outlook, using server and/or clientside rules?     I get this two Exchange 2010 Global Address book related event IDs: Event ID 9331 MSExchangeSA OABGen encountered error 80004005 (internal ID 50101f1) accessing the public folder database while generating the offline address list for address list '/'. -\Default Offline Address List and Event ID 9335 MSExchangeSA OABGen encountered error 80004005 while cleaning the offline address list public folders under /o=xxxxx xxxx/cn=addrlists/cn=oabs/cn=Default Offline Address List. Please make sure the public folder database is mounted and replicas exist of the offline address list folders. No offline address lists have been generated. Please check the event log for more information. -\Default Offline Address List It is Exchange 2010 SP2 sitting on Windows 2008 enterprise edition. Essentially the issue is that the global address book is not being updated on Outlook clients. We are using Outlook 2007 and 2010. So far I have tried running the following command: Update-FileDistributionService -Identity ExchangeServer -Type "OAB" And I tried this solution as well: 1) Make sure the Microsoft Exchange System Attendant is running. It will be set to start automatically by default, but it doesn't. This is a known issue. Start this service manually. When running, you will not get an error when trying to update the GAL. 2) "Apply" any changes made to any address lists before the GAL will update Outlook properly. In Organization Configuration - Mailbox in EMC, view the properties of the Default Global Address Book in the Offline Address Book tab. In the properties window, select the Address Lists tab. This shows which address lists makes up the GAL. 3) Close the properties window and select the Address Lists tab in the Organization Configuration - Mailbox. Right-click each address list used by the Def GAL and click "Apply" (make sure the "Immediately" radio button is checked). 4) Last, go back to the Offline Address Book tab, right-click the GAL and select "Update". After a few send/receives in the Outlook clients, their Glogal Address List should update to show the latest changes. Neither one of those solutions helped. So I am not really sure what to do here. Also, I am aware of changing registry on each local computers, but it would be close to impossible as we have 8 offices in 3 different countries. Any suggestions? EDIT 7.XII.2012 @ 10.35 I forgot to mention that we did rebuild the address book and that didn't help.

  • Make Thunderbird show message list like Outlook?

    Does anyone know how to change the layout (either option or extension) for Thunderbird 3 to make it look like the default layout in Outlook? Basically, in Vertical View, I can get my Folders on the left, next to a 2 line listing of each message (Sender and Time line 1, Subject on line 2), and Message Pane on right? If not, I'll also take as Notes links to guides on how to make my own extension.

    I updated my Tortoise SVN client today to TortoiseSVN 1.6.8, Build 19260 - 32 Bit , 2010/04/16 20:20:11 Subversion 1.6.11, apr 1.3.8 apr-utils 1.3.9 neon 0.29.3 OpenSSL 0.9.8k 25 Mar 2009 zlib 1.2.3 However, I now don't see any Status icons for any folders/files. The client still works as expected but it is a bit frustrating to not see a visual status. Has anyone else had this issue?

  • Slow file copying/network browsing in Windows 7

    The file copying on local discs and network shares, and browsing shared folders is much slower on the Windows 7 than it was on Windows XP. I'm sure everyone encountered this problem, I personally have seen it on many different computers. What would you recommend to speed up these operations?
