  • using PHP for "Fluid" design(using viewport resolution)

    I need some opinions on using PHP to make completely "scalable" websites.. For instance, using viewport resolution and resizing images, applying dynamic css styles..... In my mind doing this just add's to the complexity and should not be done, it should be fixed or fluid using strictly css and no server-side languages to generate layouts based on the device size.. I need some input and maybe some philosophy on why using this approach is not used at all..

After all they need money to host their data and code.     I've noticed major music festivals (at least in Australia) and other events that experience a peak in traffic when tickets go on sale have huge problems keeping their websites running well. I've seen a few different techniques used to try combat this such as short sessions and virtual queues but they dont seem to have much effect. If you were to design a website to sell a lot of tickets in a short amount of time how would you handle scalability? What technologies and programming techniques would you use?

  • What's right for me: htAccess, form submittion, HTTP header authentication w/ PHP?

    I am creating a website with multiple sections--admin, client, user, and anonymous--each user group having less access then the next. I am wondering what form of authentication would be best for my use? I have heard the if you are just dealing with a websites then a web form is for you (because it's prettier). HTTP header authentication with PHP is said to get clunky/sloppy. htAcess is pretty much the hard core of various authentication methods I have looked up, but is it too much?

    I'm building a user content parser and am adding an automatic link parser. I'm adding a dialogue, that confirms that the user wants to go to the particular site being linked to. This is for two reasons. Anti phishing and spam combating. However I want to be able to disable both the dialogue and nofollow additions with commonly used websites, so I'm building a whitelist. Are there any common whitelists about or should I start building one from scratch?

I currently use an absolute path to get the XSLT file name: XslCompiledTransform xslt = new XslCompiledTransform(); String xsltFileName = "file:///C:\\Documents and Settings\\kentl\\My Documents\\Visual Studio 2005\\WebSites\\WebSite2\\page.xsl"; xslt.Load(xsltFileName); I would like to have a solution without an absolute path. What would be the cleanest way?

  • IIS 7 Website Migration & Configuration

    Hi - I am in the process of migrating an existing webserver running IIS 6 to IIS 7. I have setup the new websites on the new server but cant seem to test them as once I have entered the domain name when I selec t "browse" from within IIS 7 I get the site on my original server. How can I test the configuration of my new sites on my new server before migrating the domain names (eg updating the DNS records etc.)? Any help much appreciated.

  • can widgets be cached ?

    Is there a way to cache widgets. For example if you place your widgets on high volume websites then each time when someone access that site, a call will be made to your server to get the widget code. This way my server can get too much overloaded just to display the widget . Can I cache the widget HTML code and place it on some server like Akamai. Any suggestions or tips highly appreciated.   • Managing multiple apps with one Google Analytics account?

    I've just setup a Google Analytics for Mobile Apps account and I've implemented the SDK in my iPhone app with no trouble at all. However, I haven't figured out how to manage multiple apps with one account. It seems fairly easy to setup multiple subdomains when dealing with websites and I've noticed the javascript code has a setSubdomain function that doesn't seem to be present in the iPhone SDK. Is there any way I can have google analytics differentiate my different apps for the same account?
