It is interesting the consideration about SCD Type I attributes in a SCD Type II dimension – you can probably generate them in a more dynamic way in PowerPivot (thanks to Vertipaq and DAX) instead of relying on a relational table containing all the data you need, which usually requires a more complex ETL process....(read more)

• Motherboard and Processor sync error panic and killing init

  I have installed Ubuntu 12.04LTS for the first time and this has problems while working. the system hangs out and panic error showing the message that motherboard and processor not syncing and attempted to kill init. I have a Gigabyte GA-MA74GMT-S2(AM3) board AMD Phenom II X2 555 processor 4gb ddr3 ram with L6 cache I would like to know why is this problem happening. this is a separate installation and system is also having windows7 running as a separate installation. need help fixing this.

• Ubuntu boots to orange screen after install

  I have a problem in which I boot my computer and everything works normally, I see a purple screen with various partitions to select such as my Windows 7 and Ubuntu partitions. When I select the Ubuntu one, my computer boots to an orangish screen and plays what sounds like a drum sound once. Then nothing happens and I have to reboot my computer because the computer is stuck at this orange screen. EDIT: My hardware is: Asus M5A97 motherboard AMD Phenom II 630 processor MSI r6670 MD1GD5 GPU TrendNet TEW-641PC Wireless Card

  MIX10was really a fantastic conference for Telerik! We had great talks, many customers stopped by our booth and we've got a lot of great feedback for our Silverlight Controls. Thank you for stopping by and sharing your opinion! So now, that the MIX is over, there is one question left: What Telerik will develop for theWindows Phone 7? We had this question on the booth over and over again and it is no doubt that the WP7 development is a hot topic now.   So i have a laptop with ubuntu installed as the only OS. I also have a USB stick with a windows 7 installation on it. I want to install windows form the USB stick on my laptop but when ii try to restart the laptop to get acces to Bios i cant seem to find the command for it, its like it skips everything and just says ubuntu and then takes me to the login screen. So im wonder how to change the boot priority to USB in ubuntu.

• SSIS Catalog: How to use environment in every type of package execution

  Here is a good blog on how to create a SSIS Catalog and setting up environments.  http://sqlblog.com/blogs/jamie_thomson/archive/2010/11/13/ssis-server-catalogs-environments-environment-variables-in-ssis-in-denali.aspx Here I will summarize 3 ways I know so far to execute a package while using variables set up in SSIS Catalog environment. First way, we have SSIS project having reference to environment, and having one of the project parameter using a value set up in the environment called "Development".  With this set up, you are limited to calling the packages by right-clicking on the packages in the SSIS catalog list and select Execute, but you are free to choose absolute or relative path of the environment. The following screenshot shows the 2 available paths to your SSIS environments.  Personally, I use absolute path because of Option 3, just to keep everything simple for myself. The second option is to call through SQL Job.  This does require you to configure your project to already reference an environment and use its variable.  When a job step is set up, the configuration part will require you to select that reference again.  This is more useful when you want to automate the same package that needs to be run in different environments. The third option is the most important to me as I have a SSIS framework that calls hundreds of packages.  The main part of the stored procedure is in this post (http://geekswithblogs.net/LifeLongTechie/archive/2012/11/14/time-to-stop-using-ldquoexecute-package-taskrdquondash-a-way-to.aspx).  But the top part had to be modified to include the logic to use environment reference. • DNS lookup working but nothing pinging

  I have three forward lookup zones in my DNS server. When I try pinging a server that's part of lookup zone A from a computer that's part of that same zone, I get a response. If I try pinging a server that's not in the same zone as the computer I'm pinging from, I get nothing. When I try an nslookup of the servers that are not part of the same lookup zone, the names resolve correctly. If I append the domain onto the name, I can ping it just fine. Is there a way I can fix this? or do I need to keep appending the domain onto the name if the computer I'm trying to ping is not of the same domain as me?

• Tip: Keeping the ADF Mobile PDF Guide up to date

  This is a little tip for customers using Oracle's ADF Mobile. If you're like me, it's possible you don't rely on the online HTML version of the Mobile Developer's Guide for ADF, but rather download a PDF version of the file to use locally (look to the "PDF" link to the top right of the guide).  For me the convenience of the PDF is it's faster, I can search the whole document easily, I can split read the document across two pages on my home monitor, if I lose my internet connection the document is still available, and it's easy to read on my iPad (especially on long haul flights to the US across the Pacific where there is no internet connection!). The trigger point for me to download the Oracle PDF documentation has always been on a new point release of JDeveloper.  However in the case of ADF Mobile, as an extension to JDeveloper it is releasing at a much faster and independent schedule to JDeveloper and this includes updates to the documentation. As such the 11.1.2.4.0 ADF Mobile PDF guide you have locally might be out of date and you should take the opportunity to download the latest version.  This is also particularly important for ADF Mobile as not only are many new features being added for each release and included in the new documentation, but the guide is under rapid improvement to clarify much of what has been written to date.  Our documentation teams are super responsive to suggestions on how to improve the guides and this often shows per point release. How do you tell you've the latest guide? Look to the document part number which right now is "E24475-03".  This is a unique ID per release for the document, the first part being the document number, and the part after the dash the revision number.  If the website document number has a higher revision number, time to download a new up to date PDF.   T-SQL has never been my favorite language, but I need to use it on a fairly regular basis and every time I seem to Google the same things. So if I add it here, it might help others with the same issues, but it will also save me time later as I will know where to look for the answers!! 1. How do I SELECT FROM WHERE to filter on a DateTime column? As it happens this is easy but I always forget. You just put the DATE value in single quotes and in standard format: SELECT StartDate FROM Customer WHERE StartDate >= '2011-01-01' ORDER BY StartDate 2. How do I then GROUP BY and get a count by StartDate? Bit trickier, but you can use the built in DATEADD and DATEDIFF to set the TIME part to midnight, allowing the GROUP BY to have a consistent value to work on: SELECT DATEADD (d, DATEDIFF(d, 0, StartDate),0) [Customer Creation Date], COUNT(*) [Number Of New Customers] FROM Customer WHERE StartDate >= '2011-01-01' GROUP BY DATEADD(d, DATEDIFF(d, 0, StartDate),0) ORDER BY [Customer Creation Date] Note: [Customer Creation Date] and [Number Of New Customers] column alias just provide more readable column headers. 3. Finally, how can you format the DATETIME to only show the DATE part (after all the TIME part is now always midnight)? The built in CONVERT function allows you to convert the DATETIME to a CHAR array using a specific format. The format is a bit arbitrary and needs looking up, but 101 is the U.S. standard mm/dd/yyyy, and 103 is the U.K. standard dd/mm/yyyy. • How to get better at solving Dynamic programming problems

  I recently came across this question: "You are given a boolean expression consisting of a string of the symbols 'true', 'false', 'and', 'or', and 'xor'. Count the number of ways to parenthesize the expression such that it will evaluate to true. For example, there is only 1 way to parenthesize 'true and false xor true' such that it evaluates to true." I knew it is a dynamic programming problem so i tried to come up with a solution on my own which is as follows. Suppose we have a expression as A.B.C.....D where '.' represents any of the operations and, or, xor and the capital letters represent true or false. Lets say the number of ways for this expression of size K to produce a true is N. when a new boolean value E is added to this expression there are 2 ways to parenthesize this new expression 1. ((A.B.C.....D).E) ie. with all possible parenthesizations of A.B.C.....D we add E at the end. 2. (A.B.C.(D.E)) ie. evaluate D.E first and then find the number of ways this expression of size K can produce true. suppose T[K] is the number of ways the expression with size K produces true then T[k]=val1+val2+val3 where val1,val2,val3 are calculated as follows. 1)when E is grouped with D. i)It does not change the value of D ii)it inverses the value of D in the first case val1=T[K]=N.( As this reduces to the initial A.B.C....D expression ). In the second case re-evaluate dp[K] with value of D reversed and that is val1. 2)when E is grouped with the whole expression. //val2 contains the number of 'true' E will produce with expressions which gave 'true' among all parenthesized instances of A.B.C.......D i) if true.E = true then val2 = N ii) if true.E = false then val2 = 0 //val3 contains the number of 'true' E will produce with expressions which gave 'false' among all parenthesized instances of A.B.C.......D iii) if false.E=true then val3=( 2^(K-2) - N ) = M ie. number of ways the expression with size K produces a false [ 2^(K-2) is the number of ways to parenthesize an expression of size K ]. iv) if false.E=false then val3 = 0 This is the basic idea i had in mind but when i checked for its solution http://people.csail.mit.edu/bdean/6.046/dp/dp_9.swf the approach there was completely different. Can someone tell me what am I doing wrong and how can i get better at solving DP so that I can come up with solutions like the one given above myself. Thanks in advance.

Customized BPM workspaces/user interfaces are a fairly common requirement. One of our marquee customers in the online stock trading business, envisioned this user interaction for their BPM application: User logs in to the internal portal Use will have list of roles which he is granted as a drop down list Once user selects the role, a list of processes which user is part of appear. Logged in user can be part of any swimlane role of the process This can be a fairly common/reasonable user-UI interaction pattern. 1. and 2. are easily achievable and hence the subject matter of this blog is the requirement in 3. Objective: Given a username and a role, list all the BPM processes that the user is part of, in any swimlane of any process. Here is quick overview of the major steps/logic in the code: Intialize workflow/BPM  context as usual Get a handle on InstanceQueryService(getInstanceQueryService), InstanceManagementService,        ProcessMetadataService and ProcessModelService List all Processes for that bpmcontext (listProcessMetadataSumary) and get Granted roles to that user For each of the processes [method  getAccessibleProcesss(ProcessMetadataSummary, Set)]for each of the lanes in the process, check if the role granted to the user, matches the roleName for that swimlane. If so, add to output. Notes: The usual caveats apply including BPM APIs are subject to change.  JDeveloper method introspection is your better friend than API documentation :-)... • A Virtual Seat at the Architect&rsquo;s Table

  I always have fun producing the Arch2Arch podcasts, but the latest batch was all that and a bag of chips, since I was required to do absolutely no preparation and very little talking, and since the conversation was reminiscent of those I’ve had with various architects (you know who you are) in various watering holes: free-ranging, extemporaneous, and far, far from dull. The three most recent programs were recorded during a virtual mini meet-up of architects back in February.  You’ll find more detail here, but in a nutshell, I invited several previous Arch2Arch panelists to join me on Skype to talk about whatever was on their minds.  The resulting conversation yielded the three latest programs. • Problem with fitting graphics card

  I have recently purchased a new radeon hd5670 graphics card. The problem I have is that it is what I might call a double height card. So the end where you fix the card to the case is twice the size of the card it is replacing. But this means that it is blocked by the rear of the network card. The only way I can see it to cut that part of the fixture part out then I won't have a problem. But has anyone any suggestions what I could use? To be clear it is not the actual card it is the fixture part which is 90 degress to the card that is causing the problem. Unless someone knows of another solution - some kind of pci-e extender that I could use as I could easily

• How to make Runescape work on 12.04?

  I'm trying to play Runescape on Chromium, but it runs really slowly. I have IcedTea Java from the Software Center. I had to install it for the game to work at all, but it's not playable. Does anyone have some good settings for me to use, or do I need a better way to have Java and Chromium work together so Runescape can run? Memory: 4.8GB CPU: AMD Athlon(tm) II X4 620 Processor × 4 GPU: Gallium 0.4 on NV50 (driver) = Geforce 8800 GTS OS type: 64bit
