• Getting WAP embedded video in android AND iphone?

  Recently a client asked me to make their site "work on smart phones", which normally wouldn't be too much of an issue... However it's a video site, and I have absolutely no idea where to even begin. Right off the bat I'm not even going to consider allowing the site to even function in anything other than Android (Maybe even 2.0+) and iPhone, maybe Blackberry and WinMo. But beyond that... What do I do? I'm looking at using the tag, however I'm unsure what, if any, codecs which phone uses. Is HTML5 even adopted in their browsers yet? Could someone please point me in the right direction? Am I going about this the right way, using the tag? Or is there some magical html element both iPhone and Android (And BB and WMo) that lets them run video in their native video players (Like on youtube).

• Getting pixel averages of a vector sitting atop a bitmap...

  I'm currently involved in a hardware project where I am mapping triangular shaped LED to traditional bitmap images. I'd like to overlay a triangle vector onto an image and get the average pixel data within the bounds of that vector. However, I'm unfamiliar with the math needed to calculate this. Does anyone have an algorithm or a link that could send me in the right direction? (I tagged this as Python, which is preferred, but I'd be happy with the general algorithm!) • How to fix the header and first row in a UITableView

  I´m new trying to make some apps using objective c, so I´ve an idea using uitableview but I don't imagine how can I get this. I´m trying to do something like you do in a spreadsheet where you have a fixed header and the first column too So when scroll the uitableview vertically the header will stay visible at top of the table and rows will change And finally when you scroll in horizontal direction the first cell of the row will stay visible and will change the header depending of how you scroll the uitableview I hope you could give me an idea how to get this, because I don't imagine how to do this, also I don´t have a lot of experience with this programming language. • Deploying with Capistrano & Subversion. Working copy locked

  I'm deploying to a Debian server with Capistrano which fails due to locked a working copy. I narrowed it down to this: svn checkout http://myrepo.net/mysite/tags/1.0 /var/www/mysite/releases/1234 So if I run: cap invoke COMMAND='svn checkout http://myrepo.net/mysite/tags/1.0 /var/www/mysite/releases/1234' I get an error: svn: Working copy '/var/www/mysite/releases/1' locked Clean up makes no difference. The same command runs fine from the server. When I list the files in 1234/ I can see all the .svn and working copy files. Can someone please point me in the right direction to resolve this? How do I tell if the working copy is really locked? svn status shows nothing...

• Does Google provide any Android tutorials that teach how to implement a Service?

  I apologize in advance for the "newbie" nature of this question. Here is my predicament: I'm brand new to android and developing in general. I'm using android's SDK with eclipse Galileo. I've followed several tutorials to create different layouts. I've even learned recently how to use radio buttons and verify which ones were selected. Now I need to create a service that downloads and updates an xml file within the application. I've tried to locate a simple tutorial for services on Google's developer site but so far, so bad. If they exist could somebody point me in the right direction? On the other hand, I've been told Google's tutorials are a little out dated. Is that true? If so, are there any other tutorials that would hand-hold (and possibly over-explain) how to use a service to a true newbie for free (like google)? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

• Static source code analysis with LLVM

  I recently discover the LLVM (low level virtual machine) project, and from what I have heard It can be used to performed static analysis on a source code. I would like to know if it is possible to extract the different function call through function pointer (find the caller function and the callee function) in a program. I could find the kind of information in the website so it would be really helpful if you could tell me if such an library already exist in LLVM or can you point me to the good direction on how to build it myself (existing source code, reference, tutorial, example...). EDIT: With my analysis I actually want to extract caller/callee function call. In the case of a function pointer, I would like to return a set of possible callee. both caller and callee must be define in the source code (this does not include third party function in a library).

• Can hitTestPoint be used with local coordinates at all?

  In AS3 I have a game where a vehicle rotates to the direction of the cursor, but when it "moves", its sprite stays stationary in the middle of the stage while the map layer below it actually moves, causing the illusion of movement of the vehicle on the map. There are obstacles on the map that the vehicle cannot pass. The obstacles are in a movie clip that is a part of the map layer and move with it. hitTestPoint seems only to be able to check if the obstacle clip is touching points on the stage rather than points on the map, meaning that I cannot feed it the same coordinates I use to check the map boundaries, which are points on the map. I don't think I can use localToGlobal because the function I use to check obstacle collisions does not have access to a reference to the obstacle movie clip. Is there a way in these conditions to force hitTestPoint to use its local coordinate system on the map? I have included a diagram:

• What's the performance penalty of weak_ptr?

  I'm currently designing a object structure for a game, and the most natural organization in my case became a tree. Being a great fan of smart pointers I use shared_ptr's exclusively. However, in this case, the children in the tree will need access to it's parent (example -- beings on map need to be able to access map data -- ergo the data of their parents. The direction of owning is of course that a map owns it's beings, so holds shared pointers to them. To access the map data from within a being we however need a pointer to the parent -- the smart pointer way is to use a reference, ergo a weak_ptr. However, I once read that locking a weak_ptr is a expensive operation -- maybe that's not true anymore -- but considering that the weak_ptr will be locked very often, I'm concerned that this design is doomed with poor performance. Hence the question: What is the performance penalty of locking a weak_ptr? How significant is it?

  The following code works as you’d expect — MyProperty on the model is updated when the user picks a new item in the dropdown. comboBox1.DataBindings.Add("SelectedValue", myModel, "MyProperty", true, DataSourceUpdateMode.OnPropertyChanged); The following, however, doesn’t work the same way and the model update isn’t triggered until the input focus moves to another control on the form: comboBox1.DataBindings.Add("SelectedItem", myModel, "MyProperty", true, DataSourceUpdateMode.OnPropertyChanged); Does anybody know why? • UIView remove itself from UIScrollView

  Hi! Following Scenario: I have a = UIViewController A that contains a UIScrollView I have a second UIViewController "B" (amongst other things it contains a button) and add it to the ScrollView of A myView *mView = [[myView alloc] init]; [myScrollView addSubview:mView.view]; Is there a way that once the button is pressed that it(view) removes itself from the scrollview? I thought in the direction of setting the delegate of mView to "A" ?! But not sure how that should work in detail.... Any suggestions? Thanks!

• Nokogiri Truncating XML Input

  I am having issues with a colleagues machine truncating XML while using Nokogiri to parse a Media RSS feed. The feed is a standard Media RSS feed, and the XML is not malformed. It looks like it simply stops at a certain point in the XML and closes any tags that would have been open at that current point in the document. (Unfortunately I do not have the XML avialable to me right now, but I will update this question with the actual XML when I have it available to me). My confusion comes from it working fine on my machine (OSX 10.6, Nokogiri 1.4.4) while it in correctly on his machine using the same setup - however his machine is a few years older. I imagine that there is a difference somewhere but unfortunately I don't know what to look for. Any thoughts or direction would be greatly appreciated.

• LINQ to Entities and Business / Validation Rules

  We have a requirement where we need to allow users to dynamically create custom reports that will run against our database and return sets of data. It would be something similar to this: http://www.marcuswhitworth.com/2009/12/dynamic-linq-with-expression-trees/ but would ultimately contain the ability to create more complicated logic. I believe LINQ to Entities might possibly allow us to do something like we're attempting to achieve. I should note that these reports are going to need to run against multiple tables. Can anyone point me in the right direction for something like this? Has anyone done anything similar with LINQ to Entities?

• Objetive C - Calling Methods in objects.

  I'm new to Objective C, and I seem to be struggling with accessing a method of an object I created. I'm checking out the documentation , but I'm not entirely sure tha tthis is a job for a delegate. For example I have an object (1) that creates another object (2). I can access a method of the object (2) after I create it, but I can't access it from a method of object (1). I get a error that the object was not defined in this scope. If anyone can help I greatly appreciate it. I just need a nudge in the right direction so that I can at least get a grasp on how to think about the interaction between the objects.

• ASP.NET UserControl not defined?

  I've just inherited an app that utilizes usercontrols in a couple ways which I'm not too familiar with. The problem I have right now is that when I attempt to publish this code base, I get a few errors which boil down to where some referenced usercontrols are not defined. Here's an example of one line: Private clientControl As New ASP.usercontrols_clientcontrol_ascx This is a tab strip usercontrol which references other usercontrols to dynamically create the tabs. Now, on the surface I get what is going on here...but the compiler is not accepting this. This tab strip usercontrol is in the root of the project, and the other usercontrols are in a sub folder. error BC30002: Type 'ASP.usercontrols_clientcontrol_ascx' is not defined. I'm sure this is 101 stuff here, but the build works and the publish fails. Any direction would be appreciated.

• Linux friendly (.NET/Mono) browser object?

  Hi folks, A friend of mine (familiar with C# and .NET on Windows) has asked how to port some functionality to a Linux host. This functionality is based on a JSP web page that fetches some data from the host server and displays it in a banner on a page. His Win/C#/.NET code simply creates a browser object which loads the page and he then inspects the resulting object to extract the data. I'm wondering what alternatives exist to duplicate this function on Ubuntu Linux. I'm not certain that the necessary libraries exist on this installation. I can assume that things like Perl and Python are ubiquitous, but I am not familiar with any libraries that include a browser object capable of executing javascript and exposing the results to another program. Any suggestions that lead in this direction are welcome. Thanks!

• ListViewGroup not sorting correctly

  I'm using a ListView control in a C# WinForms application. Items in the list are added to a ListViewGroup (in this case, grouping by country). The one thing that isn't working as expected is that the column sorting appears to be strange. I've hooked into the ListViewItemSorter property of the ListView and everything sorts perfectly except when the country column is sorted in descending order (that is, Z-A). Regardless of how the list sort occurs the groups show in ascending order. Can anyone give me a nudge in the right direction? EDIT: FWIW, .NET 3.5 on Vista.

• How do I measure the time elapsed when calling a WCF Webservice?

  We want to track the time taken by a web service call between a client and the server. This time should not include the time taken by the server to process the request. The idea is that we want to see how much time of a web service call is lost due to the actual transfer trough the network. Does WCF already offer something in this direction? Of course I could just add a timer on the client and subtract the server processing time but that wouldn't be very elegant.

I would like a feature where if a user enters something and then closes the browser tab, the next time they come, I can show them their previous/recent searches. This will persist even if they close the whole browser and open it again. I believe this can be done by help of cookies. Are there some good rails3 gems for using cookies or any simple tutorial that could guide me in a direction?

• Whats the best solution for a database used in conjunction with Maps in Android?

  Could someone please point me in the right direction. My project involves a database where users enter their address and other info from my website. This database is then referenced in my android application to show the locations of these addresses in my database. I have yet to start and just came up with this idea. My question is, what would be the best method to create a database easily modified through my website (mySQL, php, etc), and also easily referenced easily through Android and the Google Maps API?   I'm wondering if it is possible, that after a collection of rows is inserted, to initiate an operation that is executed asynchronously, is non-blocking, and doesn't need to inform the originator of the request - of the result. I am working with large amounts of events and I can guarantee that the post-insert logic will not fail -- I just want to have a single insert thread in my event-sources, and I want this thread to keep flying without blocking, and without being responsible for any post-delivery book-keeping. I can tell you that I would potentially have a 100 of these jobs executing concurrently and each job might operate on 5 tables with anywhere between 200-1000 inserts on each of these tables. A hint in the right direction should be enough.

• Can Crystal Reports Scale to Fit Page

  Hello , Can a crystal report be scaled to fit page? I'm hoping to achieve something similar to Microsoft Excel's Scale To Fit feature wherein a large spreadsheet can be scaled to fit a 8.5"x 11" page. (On MS Excel 2007 goto Page Layout Scale To Fit). Im searching of a way to make a large report fit into a smaller page during print. for example a report designed in Legal(8.5"x 14") page must be able to shrink when print previewed for Letter(8.5"x 11") page. In my crystal report, it should be scaled to fit the page by default. I was thinking maybe theres a Crystal Report Setting or C# code technique that I missed out. • How to change object positions in an android layout?

  Hi, I'm currently working on a very simple aplication, and I intended to make it change the visual aspect depending on the screen size. The application just has 6 buttons like this: http://www.freeimagehosting.net/uploads/e1efb4c4d0.jpg I'm using the AbsoluteLayout, and changing the x and y of the buttons with the methods offsetLeftAndRight and offsetTopAndBottom. I'm not changing the layout of the buttons in the xml file, so the all start in the same place. However, if I use this methods inside the onClickMethod they sometimes appear where I want them, sometimes don't (can't figure out why), but if i use them in the onCreate method, nothing happens. Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks
