• pulseaudio: no microphone configuration

  Updated Ubuntu to precise from oneiric on a Dell Inspirion Mini 10 (with an Intel HDA-Soundcard). I can't remember having any issues with the microphone. I didn't need it - I tried ekiga the first time in precise. I couldn't hear any sound in the echo test of ekiga, so I switched to the "System Preferences" and looked for the microphone to boost it. Surprisingly, the microphone input was greyed out - I couldn't mute or unmute, i couldn't even move the volume-slider. On the other hand: I could change the microphone-setting on console with alsamixer, so don't worry about that… :) I just wanted to ask, how to get pulseaudio back to the known, comfortable behaviour.   My dissertation is about developing a tool for testing mobile applications from the GUI. Primary device is Android, but it should support Blackberry or iOs etc. I found some frameworks using Google, e.g MonkeyTalk. I am not so sure, but what I want to develop might be a mini MonkeyTalk, with minimal functionality, focused on the GUI of the application(s) to be tested. My questions: What framework(s)? I am good with Java. Can I use the xUnit family for this, and how? What should I be reading/studying? Any suggestions, links for tutorials, documentations, howtos, etc., would be very helpful. • choppy streaming audio

  I could use some help troubleshooting choppy streaming audio. The problem is jerky playback regardless of audio or video with audio. Both Chromium and Firefox have the problem, however files played directly on the machine with Rhythmbox sound just fine. I'm running 12.04 LTS on a C2D T9300. • No other users can access external hdd since upgrade to 12.10

  Since upgrading to Ubuntu 12.10 no other user can access the external hdd. This is awkward as its a family pc and we use the hdd to store music and save backups across the several accounts. The external hdd seems to mount just to my account now, i.e. /media/[user1]/[ext hdd], and while all the other users can see the drive mounted they can not access as they just receive a file location error. From their perspective it is mounted just in my profile and not in theirs. I have tried editing the properties of the hdd to allow others to view and create files on the hdd but that has not changed anything. I have also read that this is a new feature to Ubuntu 12.10, the way it mounts via /media/[user]/. So is there a way to have it mount to all the other user accounts too? Thanks!

• Sound issue in Lubuntu

  I'm recently having a problem in my Lubuntu deskptop: sound through the speakers doesn't seem to work. The funny thing is: it works when I plug in my earphones.   At present I load my font for my game in with @font-face For instance: @font-face { font-family: 'Orbitron'; src: url('res/orbitron-medium.ttf'); } and then reference it throughout my JS implementation as such: ctx.font = "12pt Orbitron"; where ctx is my 2d context from the canvas. However, I notice a certain lag time while the font is downloaded to the user. Is there a way I can use a default font until it is loaded in? Edit - I'll expand the question, because I hadn't taken the first comment into account. What would the proper method of handling this be in the case that a user has disabled custom fonts?

  Well, NO.  my little three years old boys are very sick so I need to get them out of the day care.  they keep getting ear infection so bad even the ear tube is not working.  so, now do I give my $5000.00 to the government as a donation or keep my kids in the day care and loose the hearing?  what is going on? I was told I can change this Dependant care account ONLY in the case of a life change!  well, is not this a life change?  when a member of the family is very sick and has to go through an operation "Ear Tube", the operation does not work and keeps getting sick.  Would not this be a life change?

• Why doesn't Unity 3D work on my HD3000 integrated graphics?

  So I got my new laptop recently. HP Envy 15 with switchable graphics card. I'm using both windows and ubuntu, but for ubuntu I need just Intel HD3000 for better battery live. I've installed fglrx-updates and fglrx-amdcccle-updates. The drivers seems to work for my ATI card. The problem is, Intel HD3000 does not support Unity 3D. Why? • Is there an open source solution that I can host on a web server that will allow users to anonymously upload a file to me?

  I'm looking for some kind of web application I can host on my Linux web server that will allow users to upload files of arbitrary size to me from their browser without requiring them to log in. Ideally this application would allow me to generate a link to my website that allowed for a one-time use upload. It might contain a unique, random key that was only good for that session. I could email them the link, they click it and are taken to a page where they can upload their file to me. I'm mainly targeting friends and family that need to send me files that are too large for email. I don't want to require them to install anything (dropbox), sign up and log in, etc. I'm definitely not teaching them to use FTP. This wouldn't be a difficult project for me to roll on my own but I'd like to take something off the shelf if it is possible. Does anything like this exist that my google-foo isn't turning up?

  First of all I'm 26 and I'm asking this question because I want to see how do you manage your time. Also I'm interested how do the programmers with a family(wife, several kids) manage their time. I'm asking this due the fact that I'm working aprox 7,5 hours at work (9 to 5), spent 1,5 hours on the way to/from workplace, and when I'm home I must cook/clean/etc and LEARN! And I have the impression that I don't have enough time to learn. Did you have a period similar in your life? To want to learn another language/improve your development/other skills? I saw here and on SO that there are a lot of peoples with +10k points, this in my mind means that they stay on blogs/forums more than 15 hours a day. • Is it possible to allow the User Account to access the 'Volumes' without asking the Administrator's password?

  Am the administrator of my Ubuntu system. Recently I added a new user account. But when ever the user tries to access or open the 'Volumes'(Drives where movies, songs and other files are stored) it asks for the Administrator's password. I created the user account to my other family members and I don't want to tell them my password. So is it possible to allow them to access the Volumes without asking Administrator's password ?
