  • Tab-Bar not hiding on all views

    - by Sheehan Alam
I have a tab-bar controller that loads a RootView. The RootView has 4 buttons that will load a UITableView I don't want my tab-bar to be visible in the RootView so I added the following code: -(void)viewDidLoad{ self.hidesBottomBarWhenPushed = YES; } When I initially load the app the tab-bar doesn't appear, but when I click on a button, and go back to the RootView the tab-bar still appears. I have tried placing this code in viewWillAppear and other application lifecycle methods but no luck.

  • Properly releasing UITableViewController and UITableView directly added to a UIViewController

    - by JK
I have a UIViewController (parentVC) to which I add a UITableViewController as follows (it is not pushed since the tableview only occupies about half the screen): tableVC = [[SmallTableVC alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewStylePlain]; [self.view addSubview:tableVC.tableView]; In dealloc, I add [tableVC release]; Using instruments, I can see that the tableVC is indeed fully released when parentVC released, which is good, but I am not sure why as I thought that the UITableView of tableVC would have a retain count of 2 (1 for retention by tableVC and 1 for retention by parentVC). My intuition was that an additional [tableVC.tableView release] would be required, but adding it crashes the app. Why is tableVC released properly by the current code (if indeed it actually is)? Does a UITableViewController not retain its tableView? Thanks.

  • Releasing Autoreleasepool crashes on iOS 4.0 (and only on 4.0)

    - by samsam
Hi there. I'm wondering what could cause this. I have several methods in my code that i call using performSelectorInBackground. Within each of these methods i have an Autoreleasepool that is being alloced/initialized at the beginning and released at the end of the method. this perfectly works on iOS 3.1.3 / 3.2 / 4.2 / 4.2.1 but it fataly crashes on iOS 4.0 with a EXC_BAD_ACCESS Exception that happens after calling [myPool release]. After I noticed this strange behaviour I was thinking about rewriting portions of my code and to make my app "less parallel" in case that the client os is 4.0. After I did that, the next point where the app crashed was within the ReachabilityCallback-Method from Apples Reachability "Framework". well, now I'm not quite sure what to do. The things i do within my threaded methods is pretty simple xml parsing (no cocoa calls or stuff that would affect the UI). After each method finishes it posts a notification which the coordinating-thread listens to and once all the parallelized methods have finished, the coordinating thread calls viewcontrollers etc... I have absolutely no clue what could cause this weird behaviour. Especially because Apples Code fails as well. any help is greatly appreciated! thanks, sam

  • PresentModalViewController from within UISplitViewController: weird behavior in landscape mode

    - by Krumelur
Hi, I've been using PresentModalViewController a lot and never had any issues. But when showing a modal controller from within any controller hosted by a UISplitViewController I get strange orientation bugs. In my table view (which is root controller of the UISplitView), when a cell is touched, I call: MyController oModal = new MyController(); oModal.ModalPresentationStyle = UIModalPresentationStyle.FormSheet; oModal.ModalTransitionStyle = UIModalTransitionStyle.CrossDissolve; this.PresentModalViewControll(oModal, true); If the iPad is in Portrait, all is okay. If it is in landscape however, the modal controller fades in but its orientation is incorrect. Then, after fading in has finished, it suddenly flips 90 degrees and adjusts to correct orientation. I have overriden ShouldAutoRotateToInterfaceOrientation(), so that cannot be it. Ideas? René

  • uitextfield delegate must be file's owner?

    - by deafgreatdane
I've seen a few references (eg here) in response to folks having trouble getting the keyboard to dismiss in iPhone that say "double check that the delegate is attached to file's owner. Is this necessarily true? Or just standard practice? Can't I have other objects in my nib, such as a subclass of UIViewController, and make connections to those as I like? I'd hate to have to route everything into the object that happens to be file owner. That said, I'm having a difficult time getting the keyboard to disappear. I know it's connected to the delegate, because I can set break points and step through the code. I can see the [theTextField resignFirstResponder] get called (and return true), but the keyboard still won't go away. Any other suggestions?

  • How do I set up a proxy object in the main application NIB?

    - by zoul
Hello! I would like to set up a proxy object in the application NIB file. The problem is that the NIB file is the main application NIB that gets loaded automatically by the application and therefore I cannot set up the UINibProxiedObjectsKey dictionary as described in the documentation. Is there a way to set up a proxy object in the main application NIB? Or can I tap into the code that loads the main application NIB?

  • I need help to debug my XML parsing please

    - by Griffo
I'm parsing this line: <type>branch</type> with this code if ([elementName isEqualToString:@"type"]) { [currentBranchDictionary setValue:currentText forKey:currentElementName]; } When I test the value in the type key, it does not contain branch but instead it contains branch\n. Here is the test I'm performing: if ([[currentBranchDictionary valueForKey:@"type"] isEqualToString:@"branch"]) { NSLog(@"no new-line"); } else if ([[currentBranchDictionary valueForKey:@"type"] isEqualToString:@"branch\n"]) { NSLog(@"new-line"); } this returns the "new-line" output I don't understand where the carriage return is being added, can anyone help?

  • Will iPhone OS4 make your life easier or harder as a lone app developer?

    - by Matt
I am interested to hear what people feel about the new iPhone OS4 release. It is obviously very exciting having access to all the new features, apparently (from apple.com) it has over 1500 new APIs. My original thoughts were "Wow, this is awesome", and I suppose it is. I was just getting comfortable with OS 3.2 development though, and now there is a raft of additional stuff to learn in order to keep up with the pack. So I am feeling quite frustrated! Do you think, when working as an individual app developer, having access to these additional features would improve your applications or just water down the quality? I guess being giving the opportunity to improve applications and provide better features should be welcomed. I think frustration comes from struggling to keep up with the continuous changes, but thats the industry we are in I suppose! Any thoughts/comments?

  • Setting shadowColor with property syntax gives compiler error: Expected identifier before '[' token.

    - by sam
    I have an iPad app in which I'm setting the shadow color of a UILabel in a UIView's initWithFrame: method. When I use the following syntax: m_label.shadowColor = [UIColor colorWithWhite:1.0 alpha:0.5]; I get this compiler error: Expected identifier before '[' token However, when I use the following syntax: [m_label setShadowColor:[UIColor colorWithWhite:1.0 alpha:0.5]]; It compiles without complaint. Using property syntax for other properties of the UILabel is working fine (shadowOffset, autoresizingMask, backgroundColor, font, textColor, etc.). Incidentally, I get the same error message when the statement is simply this: m_label.shadowColor; Whereas this, for example, gives no error: m_label.shadowOffset; FWIW, the entire method looks like this: #define shadowColor [UIColor colorWithWhite:1.00 alpha:0.5] #define selectedColor [UIColor colorWithWhite:0.25 alpha:1.0] #define unselectedColor [UIColor colorWithWhite:0.45 alpha:1.0] #define CLOSEBUTTON_WIDTH 26.0 #define CLOSEBUTTON_HEIGHT 26.0 - (id)initWithFrame:(CGRect)frame { if ((self = [super initWithFrame:frame])) { m_imageView = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0.0, 0.0, self.frame.size.width, self.frame.size.height)]; m_imageView.autoresizingMask = UIViewAutoresizingFlexibleWidth | UIViewAutoresizingFlexibleHeight; m_imageView.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor]; m_imageView.image = [[UIImage imageNamed:@"tab.png"] stretchableImageWithLeftCapWidth:8.0 topCapHeight:0.0]; m_imageView.highlightedImage = [[UIImage imageNamed:@"tabSelected.png"] stretchableImageWithLeftCapWidth:8.0 topCapHeight:0.0]; m_label = [[UILabel alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectZero]; m_label.autoresizingMask = UIViewAutoresizingFlexibleWidth | UIViewAutoresizingFlexibleHeight; m_label.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor]; m_label.font = [UIFont boldSystemFontOfSize:12.0]; m_label.textColor = unselectedColor; m_label.shadowOffset = CGSizeMake(0.0, 1.0); m_label.shadowColor = shadowColor; // Expected identifier before '[' token [m_label setShadowColor:shadowColor]; m_closeButton = [[UIButton alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(9.0, 1.0, CLOSEBUTTON_WIDTH, CLOSEBUTTON_HEIGHT)]; [m_closeButton setBackgroundImage:[UIImage imageNamed:@"tabClose.png"] forState:UIControlStateNormal]; [m_closeButton addTarget:self action:@selector(closeTab) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside]; [self addSubview:m_imageView]; [self addSubview:m_label]; [self addSubview:m_closeButton]; self.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor]; } return self; } Any ideas?

  • iPhone: Create a single UIView from multiple clicks

    - by Cuzog
I'm making a partial overlay modal in my app with the code from “Semi-Modal (Transparent) Dialogs on the iPhone” at ramin.firoozye.com. In doing so, the button that calls the modal is still visible and clickable. I will hide this button when the modal spawns, but I want to be sure if the user clicks very quickly twice, a new modal doesn't come up for each click. What is the best way to check that the modal doesn't already exist when calling it from the button click? You can download the test project here. For those that don't have xcode, the relevant functions are below: I call forth the modal on button click with this: - (IBAction)displayModal:(id)sender { ModalViewController *modalController = [[ModalViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"ModalViewController" bundle:nil]; modalController.view.frame = CGRectOffset(modalController.view.frame, 0, 230); [self showModal:modalController.view]; } Then use this function to animate the custom modal over the current view: - (void)showModal:(UIView*) modalView { UIWindow* mainWindow = (((TestAppDelegate*) [UIApplication sharedApplication].delegate).window); CGPoint middleCenter = modalView.center; CGSize offSize = [UIScreen mainScreen].bounds.size; CGPoint offScreenCenter = CGPointMake(offSize.width / 2.0, offSize.height * 1.5); modalView.center = offScreenCenter; // we start off-screen [mainWindow addSubview:modalView]; // Show it with a transition effect [UIView beginAnimations:nil context:nil]; [UIView setAnimationDuration:0.4]; // animation duration in seconds modalView.center = middleCenter; [UIView commitAnimations]; } Then I dismiss the modal on button click with this: - (IBAction)dismissModal:(id)sender { [self hideModal:self.view]; } And then use these functions to animate the modal offscreen and clean itself up: - (void)hideModal:(UIView*) modalView { CGSize offSize = [UIScreen mainScreen].bounds.size; CGPoint offScreenCenter = CGPointMake(offSize.width / 2.0, offSize.height * 1.5); [UIView beginAnimations:nil context:modalView]; [UIView setAnimationDuration:0.7]; [UIView setAnimationDelegate:self]; [UIView setAnimationDidStopSelector:@selector(hideModalEnded:finished:context:)]; modalView.center = offScreenCenter; [UIView commitAnimations]; } - (void)hideModalEnded:(NSString *)animationID finished:(NSNumber *)finished context:(void *)context { UIView* modalView = (UIView *)context; [modalView removeFromSuperview]; [self release]; } Any help is greatly appreciated!

  • Have an object fade in and out of existance

    - by happyCoding25
    Hello, I have a view that sets its hidden when the user taps the main view. I need the view to fade in and out of existence so it looks smoother than just disappearing. Heres my code so far (It's inside a touches event): if (!isShowing) { isShowing = YES; myView.hidden = YES; //Needs to fade out here } else { isShowing = NO; myView.hidden = NO; //Needs to fade in here }

  • How can we set time delay in animation of images to make them appear smooth ?

    - by srikanth rongali
Hi, I have 10 CCSprite images. They are continues images. I am using, CCSprite *playerH = [CCSprite spriteWithFile:@"Player_01.png" ]; playerH.position = ccp(playerH.contentSize.width/2, windowSize.height/2); [self addChild:playerH z:1]; CCAnimation* animation = [CCAnimation animationWithName:@"dance" delay:0.20f]; for( int i = 1; i < 11; i++ ) { [animation addFrameWithFilename: [NSString stringWithFormat:@"Player_%02d.png", i]]; } NSLog(@"k VALUE: k: %d",k); id actionA = [CCAnimate actionWithAnimation: animation restoreOriginalFrame:NO]; id actionD = [CCDelayTime actionWithDuration:5.0f]; id actionC = [CCCallFunc actionWithTarget:self selector:@selector(enemyEntranceScreen:)]; id seqActionPlayer = [CCSequence actions:actionA, actionD, actionC, nil]; [playerH runAction: seqActionPlayer]; But the animation is not continues. I have changed the animation delay time. but, I can see only three images appearing. How can we know how much time interval should we keep in animation. Is there any relationship between this and the frame rate [[CCDirector sharedDirector] setAnimationInterval:1.0/60]; [[CCDirector sharedDirector] setDisplayFPS:YES]; Thank you.

  • Need a good way to share iPhone source code on the Web.

    - by CJCraft.com
Hi, I'm looking for a way to share some iPhone SDK source code I have with others. Goals: Share iPhone SDK source code, Objective C written in XCode. I have a good bit of source code I want to share. I'd like for it to be easy. I'd like for it to have syntax highlighting, by this I mean coloring and formatting Ideally it would allow me some room to make it "fit" into my site. I want it to look like basically another page on my site where the content is the code. It shouldn't be just a text file in other words. Here's an example where someone was able to do this for C#: http://www.opennetcf.com/library/sdf/ I guess what I want is the ability to create html documentation for all the classes, etc.

  • Adding methods to an Objective C class interface is optional?

    - by Steve the Plant
Coming from a C++ background, one thing that confuses me about Objective C is the fact that you can add a method to a class without actually specifying it in the class interface. So I had a barrage of questions: Why would someone choose to not add the method in the class interface? Is it simply because of visibility? Methods without a declaration in the interface are private? Is declaring methods in a class interface just optional? Is it different for overriding a base class' method?

  • Android return to the original position of the view after MotionEvent

    - by Kurty
    My application currently changes to another random int (View) when I let go of it (ACTION_UP) but the view stays in the same spot where I dropped it. I want it to return to the original location (the middle of the screen) when I drop it so I can repeat the process. // OnTouch and MotionEvent OnTouchListener dragt = new OnTouchListener() { public boolean onTouch(View v, MotionEvent me) { FrameLayout.LayoutParams par = (FrameLayout.LayoutParams) v.getLayoutParams(); switch (v.getId()) { case R.id.randomView: } switch(me.getAction()) { case MotionEvent.ACTION_MOVE: par.gravity = 0; par.setMargins((int)me.getRawX() - (v.getWidth())/2, (int)me.getRawY() - (v.getHeight())/2, 0, 0); v.setLayoutParams(par); break; case MotionEvent.ACTION_UP: // tallies score. score++; textScore.setText(String.valueOf(score)); // this generates the new view but the location is still the same color.setImageResource(mImageIds[rgenerator.nextInt(mImageIds.length)]); break; } return true; } };

  • Resizing a UIView - expanding the top

    - by Mongus Pong
I have a UIView inside of a UIScrollView that I want to resize. I can increase the height easily by : CGRect frame = self.drawinView.frame; frame.size.height += 100; self.drawinView.frame = frame; self.drawinScrollView.contentSize = CGSizeMake(frame.size.width, frame.size.height); And all is good. The above code will create a new area of the view at the bottom of the view that I can fill out. Now when I resize the view, I only want to be repainting the new portion of the view that has just been created. I dont want to have to repaint the whole view. However! I have run into difficulty when I need to expand the top of the view. Doing : CGRect frame = self.drawinView.frame; frame.origin.y -= 100; self.drawinView.frame = frame; self.drawinScrollView.contentSize = CGSizeMake(500, 600); does not work. How can I do this without having to repaint the entire view?

  • Load different views depending on the category of data on tap of tableview cell iPhone sdk

    - by neha
Hi all, In my aplication, I want a tableview with different cell structure depending upon the category of data that's getting loaded in it [I have different categories like video, editorial etc with different structure of data like video has a single label, editorial has 3 labels etc]. I can load different nib files based on the data coming from xml parser. Now when the cell is tapped, I want to show its detailed view on a new viewController. So my question is is it possible to use only 1 viewController show different fields depending upon the category of data in the cell. Or do I need to create different viewControllers for each of the categories?
