• Ways to call Blocks within Magento: createBlock vs Layout xml file

- by N. B.
Context: I'm trying to include Adminhtml blocks in the frontend of the site to replace some of the user account blocks. The first thing I'm trying to do is simply display the block on the correct page. I can replace the entire page by setting the Body of the response inside the controller, but I'm having a hard time including the block in the layout xml file and then calling it within the template. Why would I be able to create an adminhtml/sales_order_grid from Mage_Sales_OrderController using createBlock: $this->getResponse()->setBody($this->getLayout()->createBlock('adminhtml/sales_order_grid')->toHtml()); But not from a frontend layout, using a declaration <block type="adminhtml/sales_order_grid" name="orders_widget"/> within app/design/frontend/default/default/layout/sales.xml The latter produces an error without a stack trace: Fatal error: Call to a member function toHtml() on a non-object in app/code/core/Mage/Core/Model/Layout.php on line 526 Thanks for any guidance!

• Delphi> Please explain this: type... procedure of object

- by Richard Woolf
I've encountered some code that's new to me... I've never really seen a type declaration of a procedure of object, and I just don't see the point. Why couldn't the developer simply keep a field of type Boolean? interface type TFinishedCaptureEvent = procedure(AFinished: Boolean) of object; TFrameCard = class(TFrame) ... private FOnFinishedCapture: TFinishedCaptureEvent; public property OnFinishedCapture: TFinishedCaptureEvent read FOnFinishedCapture write FOnFinishedCapture; end; implementation ... if Assigned(FOnFinishedCapture) then FOnFinishedCapture(False);

• Is it possible to load a new Applescript scripting addition whilst my script is running?

- by jkp
According to various documents and discussions this used to be possible: you needed a block something like this in your script: try tell me to «event ascrgdut» end try tell me to doTheFunkyNewThing The event corresponds to hidden event with the undocumented C constant kUpdateAEUT (see here for the declaration of the constant) which should force the scripting additions to be reloaded. I've written a scripting addition and played around with this method of getting it to load but I have had no luck at all. I can only make it load by starting my script after the extension has been installed. Does anyone know if there is a way to make this work? Has this functionality been disabled in more recent OS X releases? I'm using OS X 10.6.2 FWIW.

• How do you make an in-place construction of a struct casted to array compile in Visual C++ 2008?

- by Irwin1138
I'm working with quite a big codebase which compiles fine in linux but vc++ 2008 spits errors. The problem code goes like this: Declaration: typedef float vec_t; typedef vec_t vec2_t[2]; The codebase is littered with in-place construction like this one: (vec2_t){0, divs} Or more complex: (vec2_t){ 1/(float)Vid_GetScreenW(), 1/(float)Vid_GetScreenH()} As far as I know, this code constructs a struct, then converts it to an array and passes the address to the function. I personally never used in-place construction like this so I have no clue how to make this one work. I don't maintain the linux build, only the windows one. And I can't get it to compile. Is there some switch, some macro to make vc++ compile it? Maybe there is a similar nifty way to construct those arrays and pass them to the functions in-place that compiles just fine in vc++?

• Do controls need to be defined in a web app or will .NET do it for you

- by Chris
I always thought that when you dropped a control onto an .aspx page that a declaration of that control ended up being generated for you (either in a designer file, or within your code behind). All of the apps I have worked on have worked this way. A coworker of mine was installing resharper and it was showing that all her code behind pages would not build. Turned out that resharper could not find a definition for any control that she has dropped onto her markup. She has no designer files, and no declarations in markup. Do they get automatically built when putting together the partial classes? Is there an option at that page/project level to instruct .NET to do this for you? Is this a difference between web app and web site? This is a a .NET 3.5 site, C#, and it is running in a production environment. Thanks in advance

• Android:How to avoid XML verification failed error and Upgrading to 2.x SDK successfully?

- by user187532
Hi, I have setup for Android development with 1.5 SDK on Mac O.S X - Eclipse 3.5. I want to upgrade the SDK, so as i followed to choose Window-Android SDK and AVD Manager from Eclipse. But it throws error as follows: XML verification failed for https://dl-ssl.google.com/android/repository/repository.xml. Error: cvc-elt.1: Cannot find the declaration of element 'sdk:sdk- repository'. Failed to fetch URL I tried "http" instead of https, but still getting the same error. I don't know why such crap error comes. If i see Android website, http://developer.android.com/intl/zh-CN/sdk/index.html its confusing. Could someone guide me easily to update Android SDK to 2.x or later without uninstalling my current setup environment. Thanks. I appreciate your kind suggestions.

• In an asp.net, how to get a reference of a custom webcontrol from a usercontrol?

- by AJ
Hi I have a page which holds a custom webcontrol and a usercontrol. I need to reference of webcontrol in usercontrol class. So, I make the declaration of webcontrol as public in page class. But, when I do “this.Page.”, I don’t see the webcontrol listed in list provided by intellisense. Most probably, I am missing something. In an asp.net page, how to get a reference of a custom webcontrol from a usercontrol? Please advise. Thanks Pankaj

• c# wrapper for a c DLL

- by Without me Its just Aweso
I'm attempting to write a wrapper so that my C# application can use a DLL written in C. Here is a method defintion that i'm trying to wrap: void methodA(const uint32_t *data); //c header declaration The issue I'm having is trying to figure out how to give a equivalent pointer from c#. In c# I want it to operate on a: UInt32 data[] //my c# object i want to be able to pass in but how do I give an equivalent pointer in my wrapper? I have tried ref data //my attempt at giving an equivalent pointer to the DLL but that doesnt seem to be working. Using debug statements in the DLL I can see that the values it gets that way are not what I'm attempting to pass in. So my question boils down to have do I properly wrap a c fuction that is using a pointer to reference an array?

• Problem understanding treesort in Haskell

- by Jerry
I am trying to figure out how exactly does treesort from here work (I understand flatten, insert and foldr). I suppose what's being done in treesort is applying insert for each element on the list thus generating a tree and then flattening it. The only problem I can't overcome here is where the list (that is the argument of the function) is hiding (because it is not written anywhere as an argument except for the function type declaration). One more thing: since dot operator is function composition, why is it an error when I change: treesort = flatten . foldr insert Leaf to treesort = flatten( foldr insert Leaf )?

• Reading a Delphi binary file in Python

- by Brendan
I have a file that was written with the following Delphi declaration ... Type Tfulldata = Record dpoints, dloops : integer; dtime, bT, sT, hI, LI : real; tm : real; data : array[1..armax] Of Real; End; ... Var: fh: File Of Tfulldata; I want to analyse the data in the files (many MB in size) using Python if possible - is there an easy way to read in the data and cast the data into Python objects similar in form to the Delphi records? Does anyone know of a library perhaps that does this?

• CSS [custom?] attributes

- by Michael
radio[pane] { list-style-image: url("jar:resource:///chrome/classic.jar! /skin/classic/browser/preferences/Options.png"); } radio[pane="prefpane-appearance"] { -moz-image-region: rect(0px, 32px, 32px, 0px); } radio[pane="prefpane-appearance"]:hover, radio[pane="prefpane-appearance"][selected="true"] { -moz-image-region: rect(32px, 32px, 64px, 0px); } Can anyone explain a syntax of this css, particularly what is pane.. I couldn't find such attribute for radio element in context of XUL. So I guess it's some custom attribute? If it is, then how it is evolving through the lines, first declaration, then several assignments? It has also selected, which means can have multiple custom attributes? How can those attributes be used later?

• gcc problem with explicit template instantiation?

- by steve jaffe
It is my understanding that either a declaration or typedef of a specialization ought to cause a template class to be instantiated, but this does not appear to be happening with gcc. E.g. I have a template class, template class Foo {}; I write class Foo<double>; or typedef Foo<double> DoubleFoo; but after compilation the symbol table of the resulting object file does not contain the members of Foo. If I create an instance: Foo<double> aFoo; then of course the symbols are all generated. Has anyone else experienced this and/or have an explanation?

• function prototype declarations

- by sandy101
I am practice the function in c and come across to the program .... #include<stdio.h> int main() { float a=15.5; char ch ='C'; printit(a,ch); return 0; } printit(a,ch) { printf("%f\n%c",a,ch); } I want to know that why the above program compile and not give the error as i understood so for is ... The function in c must be declared with the specific prototype (but this program does not contain the prototype) why the program give the output 'x'for the char variable ? can the function in c are capable of accepting the value without being declared about type in parameters like what has done in the function declaration ?

• C#: Making sure parameter has attribute

- by slayerIQ
I have an attribute lets call it SomeAttribute and a class i need to make sure the class is passed a type which has SomeAttribute. So this is how i do it now: public class Test() { public Test(SomeType obj) { if(!obj.GetType().IsDefined(typeof(SomeAttribute), false)) { throw new ArgumentException("Errormessage"); } } } But this means that i don't get any errors at compile time but somewhere at runtime, if obj does not have the attribute. Is there a way to specify in the method declaration that the parameter must have some attribute ? So i get errors i compile time when using the wrong parameters.

• Illegal token on right side of ::

- by Adam Haile
I have the following template declaration: template <typename T> void IterTable(int& rIdx, std::vector<double>& rVarVector, const std::vector<T>& aTable, const T aValue, T aLowerBound = -(std::numeric_limits<T>::max()), //illegal token on right side of '::' shows here bool aLeftOpen = true) const; Which throws the illegal token error as noted, on the line with "-(std::numeric_limits::max())". I got this code from some old linux source that I'm trying to compile on Windows. Any idea what the issue is?

• Is it possible to open and edit 2 or more RecordStores at the same time in j2me?

- by me123
Hi, I was wondering if it is possible in j2me to have 2 or more recordStores open at the same time. I basically want to be able to add/remove records from 2 different recordStores in the same execution of the code. Is this possible? If so, how would you do it? At the top of the class, you do something like 'private RecordStore rs;' would you need to have two instances of this to make it work or could you do it with the one declaration? Thanks in advance.

• Why JPA injection not works on @PersistentUnit

- by Dewfy
Hello colleagues! It is continues of question ( http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2570976/struts-2-bean-is-not-created ) I'm using struts2 + toplink in my very simple web application under Tomcat. On the page I would like use iteration tag. That is why I've declared some factory (SomeFactory) that resolves collection of entities (Entity). Per article: http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B32110_01/web.1013/b28221/usclient005.htm#CIHCEHHG the only thing I need is declaration: @PersistenceContext(unitName="name_in_persistence_xml") public class SomeFactory { @PersistenceUnit(unitName="name_in_persistence_xml") EntityManagerFactory emf; public EntityManager getEntityManager() { assert(emf != null); //HERE every time it is null return emf.createEntityManager(); } public Collection<Entity> getAll() { return getEntityManager().createNamedQuery("Entity.findAll").getResultList(); } } What is wrong? May be i miss something in web.xml? How to pre-init toplink for web application to allow injection happen?

• Setting minOccurs="0" (required) on web service parameters of type int

- by Alex Angas
I have an ASP.NET 2.0 web method with the following signature: [WebMethod] public QueryResult[] GetListData( string url, string list, string query, int noOfItems, string titleField) I'm running the disco.exe tool to generate .wsdl and .disco files from this web service for use in SharePoint. The following WSDL for the parameters is being generated: <s:element minOccurs="0" maxOccurs="1" name="url" type="s:string" /> <s:element minOccurs="0" maxOccurs="1" name="list" type="s:string" /> <s:element minOccurs="0" maxOccurs="1" name="query" type="s:string" /> <s:element minOccurs="1" maxOccurs="1" name="noOfItems" type="s:int" /> <s:element minOccurs="0" maxOccurs="1" name="titleField" type="s:string" /> Why does the int parameter have minOccurs set to 1 instead of 0 and how do I change it? I've tried using [XmlElementAttribute(IsNullable=false)] in the parameter declaration without success.

• C typedef struct uncertainty.

- by Emanuel Ey
Consider the following typedef struct in C: 21:typedef struct source{ 22: double ds; //ray step 23: double rx,zx; //source coords 24: double rbox1, rbox2; //the box that limits the range of the rays 25: double freqx; //source frequency 26: int64_t nThetas; //number of launching angles 27: double theta1, thetaN; //first and last launching angle 28:}source_t; I get the error: globals.h:21: error: redefinition of 'struct source' globals.h:28: error: conflicting types for 'source_t' globals.h:28: note: previous declaration of 'source_t' was here I've tried using other formats for this definition: struct source{ ... }; typedef struct source source_t; and typedef struct{ ... }source_t; Which both return the same error. Why does this happen? it looks perfectly right to me.

• Weblogic / EjbGen: worker manager configuration.

- by Guillaume
I want to declare a worker manager to perform some work in managed thread. Weblogic documentation tells that we can declare a global worker manager using the admin console or declare it in an ejb-jar.xml config file. I want to use the second option. But my ejb-jar.xml is generated by the ejbgen tool. There is no tag in ejbgen that would allow me to declare a worker manager. So how should I create a local worker manager declaration ?

• how to insert date in mysql table

- by mithun1538
Hello everyone, I have a mysql table called pollOfTheWeek. It has a column "pollDate" of type date. I have two questions regarding this : 1. I declared the column while creating the table as [pollDate date] What I wanted is that this column be set automatically, when the user doesnt enter any value for this column. How do i declare the column to achieve this? Assuming that I have the same declaration as above, how do I enter an empty value. I mean if the column was of type varchar, I would enter empty value as " ". But since it is of type date, I get error when I enter the value as " ". How do I enter empty value for the pollDate column?

• How can I use the FOR attribute of a LABEL tag without the ID attribute on the INPUT tag

- by Shawn
Is there a solution to the problem illustrated in the code below? Start by opening the code in a browser to get straight to the point and not have to look through all that code before knowing what you're looking for.

Input ID creates problems

Input ID creates a bug

In this example, I make a list of checkboxes representing things which could appear in a book. If you want some in your book, you check them:

prologue

chapter

summary

etc

For each checkbox, I want to assign an ID so that clicking a label checks the corresponding checkbox. The problems occur when other elements in the page already use those IDs. In this case, a CSS declaration was made to add margins to the two paragraphs which IDs are "prologue" and "summary", but because of the IDs given to the checkboxes, the checkboxes named "prologue" and "summary" are also affected by this declaration. The following links simply call a javascript function which writes out the element whose id is prologue and summary, respectively. In the first case (prologue), the script writes out [object HTMLParagraphElement], because the first element found with id "prologue" is a paragraph. But in the second case (summary), the script writes out [object HTMLInputElement] because the first element found with id "summary" is an input. In the case of another script, the consequences of this mix up could have been much more dramatic. Now try clicking on the label prologue in the list above. It does not check the checkbox as clicking on any other label. This is because it finds the paragraph whose ID is also "prologue" and tries to check that instead. By the way, if there were another checkbox whose id was "prologue", then clicking on the label would check the one which appears first in the code.

An easy fix for this would be to chose other IDs for the checkboxes, but this doesn't apply if these IDs are given dynamically, by a php script for example. Another easy fix for this would be to write labels like this:
<label><input type="checkbox" />prologue</label>
and not need to give an ID to the checkboxes. But this only works if the label and checkbox are next to each other.

Well, that's the problem. I guess the ideal solution would be to link a label to a checkboxe using another mechanism (not using ID). I think the perfect way to do this would be to match a label to the input element whose NAME (not ID) is the same as the label's FOR attribute. What do you think?

• About enumerations in Delphi and c++ in 64-bit environments

- by sum1stolemyname
I recently had to work around the different default sizes used for enumerations in Delphi and c++ since i have to use a c++ dll from a delphi application. On function call returns an array of structs (or records in delphi), the first element of which is an enum. To make this work, I use packed records (or aligned(1)-structs). However, since delphi selects the size of an enum-variable dynamically by default and uses the smallest datatype possible (it was a byte in my case), but C++ uses an int for enums, my data was not interpreted correctly. Delphi offers a compiler switch to work around this, so the declaration of the enum becomes {$Z4} TTypeofLight = ( V3d_AMBIENT, V3d_DIRECTIONAL, V3d_POSITIONAL, V3d_SPOT ); {$Z1} My Questions are: What will become of my structs when they are compiled on/for a 64-bit environment? Does the default c++ integer grow to 8 Bytes? Are there other memory alignment / data type size modifications (other than pointers)?

• Python Importing object that originates in one module from a different module into a third module

- by adewinter
I was reading the sourcode for a python project and came across the following line: from couchexport.export import Format (source: https://github.com/wbnigeria/couchexport/blob/master/couchexport/views.py#L1 ) I went over to couchexport/export.py to see what Format was (Class? Dict? something else?). Unfortunately Format isn't in that file. export.py does however import a Format from couchexport.models where there is a Format class (source: https://github.com/wbnigeria/couchexport/blob/master/couchexport/models.py#L11). When I open up the original file in my IDE and have it look up the declaration, in line I mentioned at the start of this question, it leads directly to models.py. What's going on? How can an import from one file (export.py) actually be an import from another file (models.py) without being explicitly stated?
