• ASP.NET MVC 2 Model object validation

  Hey guys, I'm trying to validate a model object outside of the context of ModelState within a controller, I currently have a parser that creates model objects from an excel file and I want to be able to report how many entries were added to the database and how many failed, is there a way to validate a model object on its data annotations outside of model binding? I'm looking for something similar to the rails model method of model.valid? or a way for me to implement that myself. My current solution is just manually checking if a few key fields are present but this duplicates requirements between my model class and its metadata, there has to be a better way to hook into the model validation checking that is done by mvc 2. • Is there any injection vunerability in the body of an email?

  Hey guys..... AFAIK there is only a vulnerability within the HEADERS of an email when using user data correct? I am using the below function to sanitize my data, however I have some textarea fields on the page & hence these may contain linebreaks.. so was wondering if that user data is only going to be put in the body of the email, can it not bother with being sanitized - apart from stripping html of course? • innerHTML parse for Google Chrome?

  Hey all. I am adding text to a textArea via Javascript in Chrome (doing it a totally different way in Firefox/IE as Chrome does not support contentWindows). Here is my code: document.getElementById("vB_Editor_001_textarea").value += '<font color="white"><b>' + numberLabel + ':</b> ' + armory + '</font><br/>'; This HTML is getting put directly into the textArea without being parsed. How can I make it parse into regular text with the HTML markup when it hits the textArea? Thanks!

• Two Column Theme, Help, to make both columns seperately Scrollable.

  Hey, I am not sure what to do on this one, I'm not a programmer, but trying to learn CSS as this is how the theme I am using was coded in. I've gotten quite far on my own, but this one stumps me Its two column Theme... As far as I have been able to get, I can use the following: #left { width: 235px; padding: 10px; margin-left: 20px; position: fixed; line-height: 15px; If I change the position to Absolute, The whole page scrolls, If I leave it at Fixed, and add lets say, a Twitter feed, or other type of text that takes me past its reading where you would normally scroll, Its just cut off, cannot get to it, hightlight or scroll.. I've also toyed with the idea, of changing the theme to a 3 column theme, but Again, not a programmer, and i'd be really confused. anyhelp would be great...   Hey, I'm just looking for some rough guidance here on the feasibility of a project. I have say a few thousand text documents and I want to create a web based system to serve them up to users in a OS X application. It's just a tiny aside for my family's small business, so it doesn't need to be amazing at the moment, we just want to see if we can can anyone to use it. I can't believe it can be that hard to do this? -Some sort of SQL backend database to manage permissions for users? -Download through the application? -For the moment just want to view the raw text files. -If we want people to pay, how would we go about incorporating that?   Hey everyone. I'm currently preparing for my exams and would like to know some examples of user-defined integrity rule in database systems. As far as I understand, it means that I can set up certain conditions for the columns and when data is inserted it needs to fulfill these conditions. For example: if I set up a rule that an ID needs to consist of 5 integers ONLY then when I insert a row with ID which is made up of integers and some chars then it won't accept it and return an error. Could someone confirm and give me some opinion on that? Thank you very much in advance!

• How do I setup a shared session between two users on my Ruby on Rails powered site?

  Hey guys, The website that I'm building includes a section where two users can interact. I think I know how to do most of it, except the actual session sharing part. I'm using Ruby on Rails & Javascript (jquery), and I've got user login and session management all working okay. Would the best way to create a shared session be to have a SharedSession model, with accompanying database table, with participant1ID, participant2ID etc? Is there a better way? I need it to have simple structure: it should listen to some url format like http://example.com/service/stream?write&id=ANY_STRING and if any data comes to such address format it'll start making it avaliable by something like this http://example.com/service/stream?read&id=ANY_STRING Main thing here to be able to stream live data thru WCF service not buffering it just sharing stream. So can please any one help me with such idea? I think not only I have seen such problem with WCF alot on different sites so answer will help the WCF comunyty alot. I hope. BTW: I know some people say WCF is not prepared for live streaming over bacikHTTPbinding but hey! We all need it to, and we ask MS alot so some day they'll make it beter and we all want to be prepared for it.

  Hey folks, ok so this is my problem, I need to display HTML code in a jsp, which wouldn't be a problem, except a requirement for this project is that we place all the code in a public class file and have seperate methods for each chunk(header, sidebar footer, etc). Now here's where i'm confused: "Your method should take the PrintWriter as a parameter to print out each line of HTML, and should have a return type of void" What does that mean? How do I pass the PrintWriter into a method? Does this make sense to anyone?

• HTML5 video element non-seekable when using Django development server

  Hey everyone. I've got a Django app serving a webpage with an HTML5 element. There's a wierd "feature", turning the video element to be non-seekable: video.seekable returns a timeRanges object with length=0, whereas it should be length=1. This means I can't edit the video. JavaScript can't do anything either. The thing is, when I upload the problematic webpage, statically - no Django, just plain HTML/JS/CSS - to my website for testing, it works fine - length=1. However, if I try to serve the same static page on my Django dev server still gives the same problem. I am using Django's static serving for dev/debug purposes - Do you have any idea what is causing this, or how can I fix it? Thanks.

We use Ninject on my team for IoC in our other projects so I would like to continue using that container if possible. Is this possible? Has anyone written a Ninject-Spring.Net Adapter?? • how to controller (start/kill) a background process (server app) in ruby

  hey guys, i'm trying to set up a server for integration tests (specs actually) via ruby and can't figure out how to control the process. so, what i'm trying to do is: run a rake task for my gem that executes the integration specs the task needs to first start a server (i use webrick) and then run the specs after executing the specs it should kill the webrick so i'm not left with some unused background process webrick is not a requirement, but it's included in the ruby standard library so being able to use it would be great. hope anyone is able to help! ps. i'm running on linux, so having this work for windows is not my main priority (right now).

• Instantiate a javascript module only one time.

  Hey guys, I follow a module pattern where I instantiate components, however, a lot of time a component will only be instantiate one time (example: a comment system for an article). For now I instantiate in the same JS file. but I was wondering if it is the wrong approach? It kind of make no sense to instantiate in the same file and always only once. But at the same time, if this file is in the page I want to have access to my module without instantiate from elsewhere, and IF I need another instance, I just create another from elsewhere... • how to turn visual studio windows forms project into an application?

  Hey everyone, I programmed an hour-sheet application and now I would like to publish it so people can install and run it. I've tried the publish function of visual studio 2008 but this gives me a clickOnce application/installer that's really confusing, but it works when I run it, but when I export the installer to another pc it installs it crashes at the end of the install. so I tried just coping the installed files but then the program crashes at startup. Is there a simple way to compile the application to a simple standalone executable or maybe containing a separate folder containing the resources (images/classes)?

  Hey All, Like always, just want to say thank you for all of the help and input in advance. I have a particular site that I am the web developer for and am running into a unique problem. It seems that somehow something is getting into every single PHP file on my site and adding some malware code. I have deleted the code from every page multiple times and changed FTP and DB passwords, but to no avail. The code that is added looks like this - eval(base64_decode(string)) - which the string is 3024 characters. Not sure if anyone else has ran into this problem or if any one has ideas on how I can secure my php code up. Thanks again.

  Hey, folks. I'm looking for some regular expressions to help grab street addresses and phone numbers from free-form text (a la Gmail). Given some text: "John, I went to the store today, and it was awesome! Did you hear that they moved to 500 Green St.? ... Give me a call at +14252425424 when you get a chance." I'd like to be able to pull out: 500 Green St. (recognized as a street address) +14252425424 (recognized as a phone number) What makes this problem easier is that I don't care about parsing text that gets pulled out. That is, I don't care that Green is the name of the road or that 425 is the area code. I just want to grab strings that "look like" addresses or telephone numbers. Unfortunately, this needs to work internationally, as best as possible. Anyone have any leads? Thanks!

  Hey, How often do we see stuff like "Send this page to a friend" on a webpages? Well, I see them quite often. My question is, how do you guys see it's effectiveness? If I hit a webpage that's interesting, and I think my friend would enjoy it, I can just copy the URL from my browser bar, paste it into the email and press "Send" button. In my opinion, it's usually faster and less mistake-aware then the button/link like this on the webpage. In addition, I'm not really sure what this website does with the emails I enter there - don't they store it and then sell for $1/100 addresses to spammers? My question is - when you design a website, do you put such links on the pages (it's often seen on sites with some news/articles)? Does it even make sense?

  Hey I have a problem with my LINQ to Entity model many to mant relation. I am new to both C# and LINQ, so bear with me. I have a model containing pictures and tags, where each picture can have many tags, and each tag can be on many pictures. In the db there is a normal relation table, but in the object model I see it as picture.tags (as a list) and tag.pictures (as a list). A search query contains several tags, and the result of the search is to contain all pictures that are tagged with all the tags (but maybe more) I have searched for. The number of tags to search for is not fixed. How can this best be done?

• Boost ASIO read X bytes synchroniously into a vector

  Hey, I've been attempting to write a client/server app with boost now, so far it sends and receives but I can't seem to just read X bytes into a vector. If I use the following code vector<uint8_t> buf; for (;;) { buf.resize(4); boost::system::error_code error; size_t len = socket.read_some(boost::asio::buffer(buf), error); if (error == boost::asio::error::eof) break; // Connection closed cleanly by peer. else if (error) throw boost::system::system_error(error); // Some other error. } And the packet is bigger then 4 bytes then it seems it keeps writing into those 4 bytes until the entire packet has been received, however I want it to fetch 4 bytes, then allow me to parse them, and then get the rest of the packet. • Reason for different segments in Linux on x86

  Hey all, So, I know that Linux uses four default segments for an x86 processor (kernel code, kernel data, user code, user data), but they all have the same base and limit (0x00000000 and 0xfffff), meaning each segment maps to the same set of linear addresses. Given this, why even have user/kernel segments? I understand why there should be separate segments for code and data (just due to how the x86 processor deals with the cs and ds registers), but why not have a single code segment and a single data segment? Memory protection is done through paging, and the user and kernel segments map to the same linear addresses anyway. Thanks! anjruu
