• Menubar + Commandbar on WM 5.0 and WM 6.5.3

  I'm developing a Windows Mobile application, and I faced a problem with CCommandBar that combines toolbar and menubar. Well, I mean the following: m_wndCommandBar.InsertMenuBar(IDR_MAINFRAME); m_wndCommandBar.LoadToolBar(IDR_MAINFRAME); I have only one root menu option in my command bar and some buttons in toolbar. It works perfectly on Windows Mobile till version 6.5.3, but on WM 6.5.3 all toolbar buttons have the same dimensions as the menu item: screen. Is it possible to force WM 6.5.3 to draw command bar the same way as WM 5.0 did? Of cource I can use only toolbar and throw away my menubar, but I want to save the old UI. P.S. I'm sorry for my English mistakes. I was always failing at school :-(

• Debugging kernel hang

  I am trying to run an app which is using a kernel mode driver. System locks up every hour and the only way to recover it is a hard reset. Sysrq stops responding, telnet sessions hang and there are no error messages of any kind. Unfortunately the board does not have ejtag support. I have been trying to isolate it functionally, but this is like looking for a needle in a hay stack. Any suggestions? PS: This is a mips linux system (2.6.31).

• Enable Query Strings in Code Igniter

  Hey, I am trying to implement Twitter's OAuth into my Code Igniter web application at which the callback URL is /auth/ so once you have authenticated with Twitter you are taken to /auth/?oauth_token=SOME-TOKEN. I want to keep the nice clean URL's the framework provides using the /controller/method/ style of URL but I want to enable query strings as well, there will only ever be one name of the data oauth_token so it's ok if it has to be hard coded. Any ideas? I have tried tons of the things people are saying to do, but none work :( PS: I'm using the .htaccess method of URL rewriting.

• WeakReferences are not freed in embedded OS

  I've got a strange behavior here: I get a massive memory leak in production running a WPF application that runs on a DLOG-Terminal (Windows Embedded Standard SP1) that behaves perfectly fine if I run it localy on a normal desktop (Win7 prof.) After many unsucessful attempts to find any problem I put one of those directly beside my monitor, installed the ANTs MemoryProfiler and did one hour test run simulating user operations on both the terminal and my development PC. Result is, that due to some strange reasons the embedded system piles up a huge amount of WeakReference and EffectiveValueEntry[] Objects. Here are are some pictures: Development (PC): And the terminal: Just look at the class list... Has anyone seen something like this before and are there known solutions to this? Where can I get help? (PS the terminals where installed with images prepared for .net4)

  I'm tasked with automating the retrieval of a couple of BusinessObjects Web Intelligence reports and further processing thereof. I have no other means of access to this data (this was the first avenue I followed), so I will have to do some screen scraping. Alas, the interface seems user-only. Grr! Has anyone done this before? Like to share? Also, does anyone know of a good library for automating the web browser? I know there is a python thingy out there that can be used for testing web applications - I need something in .NET though... What is your favorite? PS: I have also checked this thread (automate getting report from webpage), but am hoping for a Web Intelligence specific sollution.

• C# Compiler should give warning but doesn't?

  Someone on my team tried fixing a 'variable not used' warning in an empty catch clause. try { ... } catch (Exception ex) { } - gives a warning about ex not being used. So far, so good. The fix was something like this: try { ... } catch (Exception ex) { string s = ex.Message; } Seeing this, I thought "Just great, so now the compiler will complain about s not being used." But it doesn't! There are no warnings on that piece of code and I can't figure out why. Any ideas? PS. I know catch-all clauses that mute exceptions are a bad thing, but that's a different topic. I also know the initial warning is better removed by doing something like this, that's not the point either. try { ... } catch (Exception) { } or try { ... } catch { }

• How to add a "handle bar" to a sliding div

  I have a small splash page and have a browser-wide div that acts as a wrapper and have a div inside of #wrapper that is attached to a $.click(); event to slide the wrapper div out to view the browser-size background photo. I'm wanting to implement a small button/link that will slide in on the bottom right corner after the wrapper div is hidden. I know it is probably mainly CSS, but am needing some help. • Asp.net Script manager conflicting with button

  Hi there. I'm working on an asp.net app and I have some controls that are created dinamically on the OnInit event. One of that controls is an asp button that has been working fine until now. When I add a ScriptManager to my page, that same button is unnable to postback. It's only working if a take the ScriptManager out. has anything like this ever appened to somebody else? Am I invalidating the page somehow? • Are there any issues with MySQL's i18n(indic language) support ?

  Hi All, We're evaluating MySQL and PostgreSQL for building our indic language web application which will use MySQL or PostgreSQL. One of my colleagues mentioned that MySQL had issues with i18n. I mostly come from the Oracle world and although I've played a lil with MySQL, I don't know enough to know that there are issues with its i18n support. Does anyone know issues with MySQL's i18n support and if PostgreSQL would be better placed for building an application with indic language support(kannada, telugu, tamil, etc) ? Just so you know, we're going to be using J2EE to build this application and we will be using JDBC drivers to access the DB. P.S : Will anything change if we were to use Rails to build the app instead of J2EE ? Thank you,

• Strange error with CreateCompatibleDC

  Maybe this is a foolish question, I can't see why I can not get a DC created in the following code : HBITMAP COcrDlg::LoadClippedBitmap(LPCTSTR pathName,UINT maxWidth,UINT maxHeight) { HBITMAP hBmp = (HBITMAP)::LoadImage(NULL, pathName, IMAGE_BITMAP, 0, 0, LR_LOADFROMFILE | LR_CREATEDIBSECTION); if (!hBmp) return NULL; HDC hdc = (HDC)GetDC(); HDC hdcMem = CreateCompatibleDC(hdc); if (!hdcMem) { DWORD err = GetLastError(); } ... ... ... The bitmap hBmp is loaded fine and hdc has a valid value. But the call to CreateCompatibleDC() returns a NULL pointer. Then, GetLastError() returns 0 ! Anybody can guess what's going on here , please ? PS : There are no memory allocations or GDI routines called before this one...so I think memory leaks should be ruled out.

  Hi, I have one app. that consists of "Manager" and "Worker". Currently, the worker always initiates the connection, says something to the manager, and the manager will send the response. Since there is a LOT of communication between the Manager and the Worker, I'm considering to have a socket open between the two and do the communication. I'm also hoping to initiate the interaction from both sides - enabling the manager to say something to the worker whenever it wants. However, I'm a little confused as to how to deal with "collisions". Say, the manager decides to say something to the worker, and at the same time the worker decides to say something to the manager. What will happen? How should such situation be handled? P.S. I plan to use Netty for the actual implementation. Thank you very much in advance!

  How does ML perform the type inference in the following function definition: let add a b = a + b Is it like C++ templates where no type-checking is performed until the point of template instantiation after which if the type supports the necessary operations, the function works or else a compilation error is thrown ? i.e. for example, the following function template template <typename NumType> NumType add(NumType a, NumType b) { return a + b; } will work for add<int>(23, 11); but won't work for add<ostream>(cout, fout); Is what I am guessing is correct or ML type inference works differently? • While Loop Taking Alot of CPU Usage

  I am creating a keystroke logger for my personal interest, as well wanting to know how to capture and use them as functions (like key shortcuts). I got the code to learn how keylogger and GetAsyncKeyState() work: http://www.rohitab.com/discuss/index.php?showtopic=9931 I got it to run under Code::Blocks, but the weirdest things is that when I check my task manager, my CPU Usage rises to 100%. When I close the program, it goes back down, and goes back up to 100 when I turn it back on. I presume it's because of the infinite while loop, constantly checking for inputs, but I wanna know if there's anyway to decrease the CPU usage, without losing function. P.S How would I make a key shortcut? Like press (Ctrl + E) to make the program exit?

• 'Lexical' scoping of type parameters in C#

  I have 2 scenarios. This fails: class F<X> { public X X { get; set; } } error CS0102: The type 'F' already contains a definition for 'X' This works: class F<X> { class G { public X X { get; set; } } } The only logical explanation is that in the second snippet the type parameter X is out of scope, which is not true... Why should a type parameter affect my definitions in a type? IMO, for consistency, either both should work or neither should work. Any other ideas? PS: I call it 'lexical', but it probably is not not the correct term.

• Is naming a software product the same as a book legally problematic?

  I came up with a name for a software product I'm developing. It's composed of two common English words put together (for example, Firefox, Silverlight, etc.). I Googled the name to see if it was being used by any other software product before committing to it. After finding none, I did notice that there is a book published around 60 years ago, by that same name. Would it be legally problematic to name my software product as such, or does it being a software product vs a book make it irrelevant? PS - I know this isn't really a programming question, but naming is related to software development, isn't it? ;) PPS - How do companies like Microsoft get away with naming things "Windows" and "Office"? Or are they just legally called "Microsoft Windows" and "Microsoft Office"? Do developer names always precede software product names? Would naming a software product "Jones Office" be illegal?

  A while back I read (before I lost it) a great book called GUI Bloopers which was full of examples of bad GUI design but also full of useful tidbits like Don't call something a Dialog one minute and a Popup the next. What top tips would you give for designing/documenting a GUI? It would be particularly useful to hear about widgets you designed to cram readable information into as little screen real-estate as possible. I'm going to roll this off with one of my own: avoid trees (e.g. Swing's JTree) unless you really can't avoid it, or have a unbounded hierarchy of stuff. I have found that users don't find them intuitive and they are hard to navigate and filter. PS. I think this question differs from this one as I'm asking for generalist tips

In my case I have multiple Ruby on Rails applications: users.example.com profiles.example.com photos.example.com ... I would like to use 'users.example.com' as a web service that allows users to authenticate to all my other applications the same way as works "Facebook connect" or OpenID. In few words, 'users.example.com' must works as a "OpenID-like system" for my applications in 'example.com'. Can anyone give me tips and links to some useful resources? • What goes between SQL Server and Client?

  This question is an updated version of a previous question I have asked on here. I am new to client-server model with SQL Server as the relational database. I have read that public access to SQL Server is not secure. If direct access to the database is not a good practice, then what kind of layer should be placed between the server and the client? Note that I have a desktop application that will serve as the client and a remote SQL Server database that will provide data to the client. The client will input their username and password in order to see their data. I have heard of terms like VPN, ISA, TMG, Terminal Services, proxy server, and so on. I need a fast and secure n-tier architecture. P.S. I have heard of web services in front of the database. Can I use WCF to retrieve, update, insert data? Would it be a good approach in terms of security and performance?

  Hey guys I was wondering if anyone could help me with an issue im having, basically id like to have Account.create after a PayPal notification is received, There is a simple cart model which corresponds to line_items within the cart so add_account_to_market would look like this in pseudo code def add_account_to_market if status == "Completed" find the line items(via cart_id) that correspond to the cart.id that just been paid create an account with user_id set to the current carts user id end end Ive never tried to do something like this in Rails and its not working, Ive been pulling my hair out all night trying to fix this, hopefully someone can help or point me in the right direction.   Hi, I have to write a macro that get as parameter some variable, and for each two sequential bits with "1" value replace it with 0 bit. For example: 10110100 will become 10000100. And, 11110000-00000000 11100000-100000000 I'm having a troubles writing that macro. I've tried to write a macro that get wach bit and replace it if the next bit is the same (and they both 1), but it works only for 8 bits and it's very not friendly... P.S. I need a macro because I'm learning C and this is an exercise i found and i couldn't solve it myself. i know i can use function to make it easily... but i want to know how to do it with macros. I have googled and found some, but I do not really have the time to try them all out, so I want hear what other people had for experiences.   I'm trying to compile a simple example of generic classes / type patterns (see http://www.haskell.org/ghc/docs/latest/html/users_guide/generic-classes.html) in Haskell but it won't compile. Any ideas about what's wrong with the code would be helpful.
