• Generate a collection of changed lines between two revisions of a file using Java

  I am writing an eclipse plugin which needs to be able to determine which lines of a file have changed compared to a different version of the same file. Is there an existing class or library which I can use for this task? The closest I have found is org.eclipse.compare.internal.merge.DocumentMerger. This can be used to find the information I need but is in an internal package so is not suitable for me to use. I could copy/paste the source of this class and adapt it to my requirements. However, I am hoping there is an existing library to handle textual comparisons.

• Data Usage Checker Tools

  Hey All, I am about to begin a project for a new client, and am worried about a few things concerning data usage on their internet plan. We're in an area where most of the major networks don't cover the area, and the ones that do, have very expensive plans, with very low data allowance per month. I need to develop an app, but part of the problem lies with checking database values every 30 seconds. It's pretty important that this check is happening every 30 seconds, as the database is actually updated all day everyday, approx. every 5seconds (apparently). Each row in the database consists of about a page full of text if you were to paste it into MS Word. So, are there any logical ways of minimizing data usage in my case, and also how am I able to see exactly how much data is used just to establish a connection to the database? Are there any tools for this kind of info? Thanks :)

• Is it possible to optimize maven dependencies automatically?

  I am working on a big project that consists of about 40 sub-projects with very not optimized dependencies. There are declared dependencies that are not in use as well as used but undeclared dependencies. The second case is possible when dependency is added via other dependency. I want to remove redundant and add required dependencies. I ran mvn dependency:analyze and got a long list of warnings I have to fix now. I wonder whether there is maven plugin or any other utility that can update my pom.xml files automatically. I tried to do it manually but it takes a lot of time. It seems it will take a couple of days of copy/paste to complete the task. In worse case I can write such script myself but probably ready stuff exists? • Copy of Access mdb database being updated by live database

  I'm trying to compute statistics for data held in an Access .mdb database. In order to avoid interfering with the live database, I'm working from a copy which I made by simply using copy-paste in Windows Explorer. The copy resides in the same directory, but with a different name. I'm using R and RODBC to connect to the copy of the file. The strange thing is that new data that is being updated on the original live database is appearing in my queries. This is despite the file timestamps of the copy not changing at all. It is also causing some slowdown in the live database. My understanding is that the .mdb files are standalone, or is this not the case? Should I have copied the database in a different way?

• Add linebreak with jQuery at end of each textarea row

  So I have been googleing around for a couple of days but I have not found a solution so far, so I'm turning to you guys with hope that there even is a possible solution for this. I need to, at the end of each line in a textarea add a linebreak before it is sent to PHP. That is, even if the user does not press enter but if a word get's cut of or it just jumps down a row because it has filled the with of the textarea. And I need to do so with jQuery or Javascript. Does anyone have any good ideas on how to do so? Thanks!

• How would I create a VIM or Vi command to delete all text after a certain character for every line i

  Scenario: I have a text file that has pipe (as in the "|" character) delimited data. Each field of data in the pipe delimited fields can be of variable length, so counting characters won't work (or using some sort of substring function... if that even exists in VIM). Is it possible, using VIM / Vi to delete all data from the second pipe to the end of the line for the entire file? There are approx 150,000 lines, so doing this manually would only be appealing to a masochist... e.g. Change the following lines from: 1111|random sized text 12345|more random data la la la|1111|abcde 2222|random sized text abcdefghijk|la la la la|2222|defgh 3333|random sized text|more random data|33333|ijklmnop to: 1111|random sized text 12345 2222|random sized text abcdefghijk 3333|random sized text I'm sure this can be done somehow... I hope. TIA UPDATE: I should have mentioned that I'm running this on Windows XP, so I don't have access to some of the mentioned *nix commands (CUT is not recognized on Windows).

• How to avoid translation tools from messing up HTML tags?

  I always use Google translate and paste back the the results in Vim. But for some reason Google translate also screws up the HTML tags around the content I want to translate. Is there a solution for this? For instance, the double quotes are translated to Chinese-cased double quotes: 'pictures_h2'=>“?????????? Strong and li tags are translated too (well I kinda expected that). P S : IS there any translator which respect HTML tags? or translation plugin for Vim?

• Jquery: encasing div and anchor link binded to same event.

  im having trouble figuring out how to bind mouseout() to my entire nav bar including the links. when a user hovers over a link in #nav a sub menu is shown. all is well there. what i want to do is fadeOut that sub menu when the user hovers out of the entire #nav. my code for the mouseout: $('#nav').mouseout(function() { setTimeout(function() { //$('.sub-link').fadeOut(); }, 2000); }); when i hover over an anchor link which resides in #nav, i see the sub-menu. then i guess the mouseout() even fires and the sub-menu fades out. is there anyway to have the #nav and any anchor links within it to act as one? i'd paste my markup but even indenting it 4 spaces still shows as rendered html..   I am beginning C++. I have a long way to go and I am one to never stop learning. I want to create a project for myself that will allow me to learn as I go. It will also give me the motivation and possibly add to my portfolio when I graduate. The runescape skill calculator will ask for your current experience in the current skill of your choosing and your desired level. For Example: my woodcutting experience is 60 and I want to get to lvl 5 which is 120 exp. That means im 60 experience away. by cutting oak logs I get 5 experience per log. The calculator would tell me I need to cut 12 Oak logs. All these numbers are made up. So to my question. Where would I even begin? Hoping it would have buttons to press.

  I've been coding application level software for a while now. I've had some experience with internet (server/client based) applications, but that has been fairly scant. The field doesn't scare although I know that experience can be almost be measured in gold. I see myself as a highly qualified and experienced programmer, but I also see my short comings in these fields. Does this count against me (and others like me?) and would this cut anyone from obtaining the shortlist or are there other factors which bear more weight?

• Padding/Margin/Border On Element Does Not Change DIV Height

  Here is a very simply jsFiddle to demonstrate my problem: http://jsfiddle.net/ryandlf/mSmUv/4/ When an element has a top padding or margin and it sits on the first line within a div, the div does not respect that padding or margin and push the element down. In most cases this isn't an issue, but for example, if I have a button that has a top border and padding the top of the border will be cut off because the div is not taking into consideration the padding value. Is there a workaround for this other than just blindly setting margins or padding on every container div element and hoping I have added enough to account for any internal element that might be affected?

• Visual Studio 2005 - strange characters rendered for ANSI text

  Hi all, Has anyone seen this odd text rendering issue in VS2005 before? The first line of using statements actually says "using System;". If I copy the line as it is displayed and paste into notepad, the text appears correctly, so clearly the character codes are correct. In addition, the solution compiles and runs correctly. I was thinking it might be due to ClearCase using a different character encoding as all the solutions we're using were freshly checked-out yesterday on to a new build machine, but this is only happening in 2 of our ~30 solutions. Incidentally the same .cs files when opened in VS2008 render correctly on this machine, could this be a corruption in VS2005?

  Here is the situation: I have the need to search for specifics or generals, much like expedia.com or your local library catalog search. In that there are fields that may or may not be filled out based on the individual need. It acts much like an "advanced search page". I have all of that code done for the models/controller and such and have it setup with a Searches controller along with matching model and views. The question that I have is there a way to cut down the amount of parameters posted to GET so that the url isn't search?search[:a]=""+search[:b]=""+search[:c]="x"... plus the unicode checkmark. I only want the filled out fields to be shown in the response link especially minus the checkmark. cbarton

• How do I use grep to extract a specific field value from lines

  I have lines in a file which look like the following ....... DisplayName="john" .......... where .... represents variable number of other fields. Using the following grep command, I am able to extract all the lines which have a valid 'DisplayName' field grep DisplayName="[0-9A-Za-z[:space:]]*" e:\test However, I wish to extract just the name (ie "john") from each line instead of the whole line which is returned by grep. I tried pipelining the output to the cut command but it does not accept string delimiters.

• Reducing number of include files to reduce server load/speed up site?

  You can reduce the number of HTTP requests to speed up your site, such as css sprite images. I'm wondering does reducing the number of php includes/requires also speed up your site or reduce server load? For example, I have a index.php with <?php include './file.php'; ?> If instead I copy and paste the code from file.php and just put it into index.php, thus removing the include code, would it reduce the server load? This might make things less organized, but if it does reduce server load I might need to do that. For a small to medium sized site, I assume there might not be a difference, but how about for high traffic sites? Thanks in advance.

• javascript not working on localhost

  Ok so I'm lost here, frustrated and pulling my hair and out. Plus probably about to be fired or take a pay cut. I moved Files from a development server to my local machine. The files are consistent (used diff tool), all the dependencies are there. It works for the most part. The problem is that the some of the javascript (not all) is just not working. We're using jquery and a lot of plugins for it. I've checked with the web developer plugin in firefox and all the js files are loading. I cleared the cache in both firefox and chrome multiple times to no avail. The development server is a windows server running wamp. My local machine is running ubuntu. Somebody tell me what I missed.

  I have a bunch of records I want to move to another database and I just want to create a bunch of inserts that I can copy and paste. I've seen someone do this before but I can't figure it out. I'm not getting the escapes right. It's something like this where 'Code', 'Description' and 'Absent' are the columns I want from the table. • Extjs 3.4 - Button Icon does not show or does not center

  I want to fill a button with an icon I created but whatever I have tried just seems to put the icon either half cut off and way left, or it doesn't show at all. I've been trying different combinations of CSS and the icon, iconcls, cls button options. I was following the Ext 3 buttons example page but that doesn't seem to display anything for me...   Hi, I'm developing an application that requires a textarea to be used in which no. of characters are restricted to 165. I made an object of JTextArea with row & column no. 3,3 respectively but it didn't work as when I went on typing, the size of 'Textarea' went on increasing.How to restrict that? As I've used 'DocumentListener' for noting no. of characters typed,deleted,cut and pasted, I'm getting problem when suddenly the size of textarea is increased. Thank you!

  Windows 7 allows you to select multiple files to open at once by using ctrl or shift key. The "File Name" input field at the bottom of the dialog box would auto populate with the following sample: "aaa.txt" "bbb.txt" "ccc.txt" "ddd.txt" I have 14,000 files in a folder and I only need a range of files (approx 500). When I use the shift key to select a range of files, the "File Name" field auto populates all 500 file names. Windows would cut me off at the 260th character when I try to paste in a pre-generated string into the "File Name" field. Is there a way to bypass the 260 character limit so it would accept my entire string with 500 file names?

Are the digits cut off? I am using jdk1.6.0_20 64bit. The book uses jdk1.5 32bit.
